Ahh Tsunami... still the only nightclub on Maui. Â Its been closed for years now, mainly due to immature fighting by "adults" who can't control their liquor, making too much noise for the tourist folk after it lets out, and I guess being a big liability for the resort. Â Its been open here and there for private functions, but, once in a blue moon, the wave rises. Â And it did again on 4.26.13, to the general public, to raise money for the Visitor Industry Charity Walk. Â
Atmosphere:
10,000 square feet. Â Its huge! Â Spacious. Â High ceilings with neon lighting bolts that zig zag down the center of the club onto the smallish dancefloor with DJ booth perched atop. Â Dark paneling climbing up the chunky support pillars, and everything else laid out in marble and granite. Â 2 bars. Â Tons of lounge seating. Â It looks similar to the interior of XS at Encore in Las Vegas but minus the drop-dead gorgeous outdoor pool.
Because Tsunami has been closed to the public for years, it really showed how much Maui needs some sort of nightclub. Â We have enough bars. Â Attendance was good. Â I truly hope the hotel execs look at the numbers and re-open this hotspot and stop depriving Maui of having a decent place to dance and have fun.
