  I visited 283 on the best night of all: Halloween. I (dressed as Julie Powell á la Julie & Julia), Cruella de Vil, a Malagasy villager, Japanese tourist, monk and Maid Marian wandered into this long, narrow space, greeted with loud music, goth lighting and $2 Colt 45s. The bathroom line was painfully long, although abated by the visual entertainment.

  283 is the ONLY bar on this side of Athens.  If you know what I mean, then you know what I mean.  It's a great mix of jammin' dance parties and a  local's bar.  Bartenders are cool and the space feels old-school.  They have the best DJ's, like DJ Alfredo, DJ Cut a Rug, Cut a Bitch and others.  The parties are crazy cool.  
  
  I think they even have a happy hour for dogs!

  If you're visiting Athens for the first time, you have to stop at this bar.  It's very well-run and the staff is awesome.  This is what Athens is all about!
  
  If you are local, don't forget to sign up and facebook or myspace.  They have special events running all the time. If you live in Athens or are down in Atlanta, you must check out this place.

  They have the best drinks in town. Their "specials" are always imaginative and very tasty. The bartenders are sassy and lovable. They get to know their regulars and treat them well. Another big hit in this bar is the Ms. Pacman table which can be quite popular. I really miss athens for this bar... I don't think I will ever find one I like as much as I loved 283!!
