So....about a few years ago this place was pretty dependable for food, service, and cleanliness. Now it's not so dependable. For instance, my favorite food was the roast beef hot sub with au jus to dip and the meat was always tender, moist, and hot. The past year I've had it several times to go and eat in just to make sure I wasn't being too harsh and of late, the meat is overdone, dry, and the entire sandwich just dried out with au jus just very salty with not a strong beef flavor to it. Temperature of food also not dependably b/c there isn't enough help on. There's only been one girl on out front to hand both bar and people eating and with handling the local inebriated crowd trying to dance on the bar, she can't be running back and forth like necessary. When it's on fire, it's on fire but when it's not it's totally not. I feel like when the family started focusing on trying to bring back up the Villa Valenti Restaurant that focus fell from the pub and it's showing. It's so sad b/c this used to be a great little dive with some history (apparently former actress Jean Stapleton used to own this place way back when) and it's such a staple in the community and they do have some great pub fare, but it's gotta come back up to where it used to be.
The cool points though are--tvs at the tables to watch what you want, plus other large tvs with games playing, comfy booths and tables, very spacious for even a small joint. Â Help, while scantly available, is always nice.
Please, please, please make this what it used to be and make me fall in love again with my local pub!
For a pub, this is pretty good. They have your standard pub fare - pizza, wings, nachos, sandwiches, etc. Â - and I have had a little bit of all those things one time or another, and I have no real complaints about any of it. The only thing you should keep in mind when you go - if you are not a football lover, maybe stay away on a football night. The crowd gets really rowdy because they have big screens for the games, and service can be a little slower cause it can be busy. But, if watching the big game at the bar is your thing - then this is right up your alley! Otherwise, on most other nights, either dining in or delivery is the standard time you'd expect for either of those services.
I prefer the pizza a bit more to the sandwiches - it really is their bread and butter, and they do a really good wing as well. But, if you really aren't feeling pizza, you will be just as safe ordering their sandwiches, cause they are pretty yummy too.
My boyfriend and I recently moved to the Albia/Wynantskill area and Villa Valenti quickly came our favorite place for take-out. Their pizza is, in my opinion, the best in the area, and I have dreams about their garlic parm wings. I just tried their chicken sandwich last night and it was equally delicious and cooked perfectly. All of their sandwiches come with seasoned steak fries, which are amazing! I've never been inside the pub so I can't comment on the cleanliness and staff, but whenever we order take-out the delivery people are always cheerful, friendly, and fast. I highly recommend this place!!
Review Source:My fraternity is down the street from Valenti's and perhaps for good reason... I spent a portion of most fridays there in college. Â The wings are as good as it gets. Â If you've got a cold or a stuffy nose in the winter; the hot will have your sinus clean and clear in no time. Â A shame I only discovered the garlic parm wings my senior year.
Another of the trio of places I "have to go to" whenever I am in Troy. Â Although I really want to expand that list to 4 or 5 soon. Â Great service, friendly waitresses, and IMHO the best wings I've ever had. Â When I was in Texas Plucker's was good but it was no Valenti's.
Need I say more?
It's a little drive for RPI students, but their burgers are the BEST deals ever. Â My friends and I would frequent here for their burgers all the time. Â They keep it very simple, but for 5 bucks you get a nice 1/2lb burger and fries. Â I always got the bacon cheeseburger, and asked for a side of bbq sauce, which they gave for free. Â Now that I live near DC, I dearly miss the price of this simple, yet well cooked burger.
The place has LCD tvs, service is medicore, and parking can be tight...but seriously their burger deals are well worth it.
UPDATE: It's now called the Villa Valenti Pub, which is the most popular place to go out drinking in the Albia/Wynantskill area. The parking lot is very tight, so there are lots of vehicles parked along Pawling Ave. One of my former classmates is a bartender here on the weekends.
OLD REVIEW (3/2007):
My buddy and I enjoy the food, beer, and atmosphere at Valenti's. They have live bands too! Â We enjoy the Chicken Parm dinner, which is a generous portion over spaghetti served with garden salad & bread. We dip the bread into the sauce, which has a bit of sweetness. The draft beer is served by the glass or pitcher. The pizza here is good too!
