The restaurant deserves no more than one star. In plain words, awful and overpriced. The service was slower than molasses in winter. I had the lamb chops that were so fatty that it was more like eating a rare food item to find the meat. The accompanying string beans were limp and taste burned. As for the potato croquettes, I had the same at McDonald's for breakfast. The saving grace for South Coast Winery is proximity to Pechanga Casino.

4 stars. This is the best place to get breakfast or brunch when you're starting your day out in Temecula. Yes, there are a few cute breakfast places in downtown, but I prefer to be among the wineries and not 15 min away.

    1) It is insanely cheap. For a place with a fantastic outdoor ambiance, and service that serves women first and from the right side, paying less than $15 a person is a welcome surprise.

    2) I already mentioned the atmosphere. It's lovely. Don't eat inside. Enjoy the view and weather from the veranda. You're in Temecula after all, soak it all in.

Note: If they seat you down at the end of the veranda's left leg, and it's a week day, you may have to contend with loud construction noise (South Coast is expanding). Minus half a star for that.

    3) Let me reiterate on the service. It is above and beyond for the price point. Extremely attentive, cordial, and efficient. Does Vera still work here? She epitomizes first class service but I haven't seen her around recently... I had Mike and Alfredo during my breakfast last weekend. While it is clear they are still learning, their service is still high caliber when considered alongside Vineyard Rose's diner prices.

    _____

    Breakfast foods:

~ Strawberry waffle. This is their in-season fruit waffle. I expected the strawberries to be in the batter, but they were just on top. But it was good as far as standard belgian waffles go. Served with real maple syrup and a delicious coconut syrup.

~ Bananas Foster pancake. Yeah, it's infamous. Mainly because it's diabetes on a plate. I've never seen anyone finish this. And while it's definitely different, that's not always a good thing where taste is concerned. This dish is saturated in sugary sweetness that drowns out any and all semblance of pancake. I enjoy sweets, but this is taking it too far. It gets old fast.

~ Eggs Benedict. Usually served with pork loin (which is very good btw!), you can customize this with different meats (like ham), pick the consistency of your eggs (though runny is standard afterall), add accoutrements like avocado, and even change out the type of bread. Someone's order got really complicated, haha, but it came out perfectly plated and was easily devoured.

~ Coffee is served with real cream.

~ Took off another half a star because Vineyard Rose doesn't make their own whipped cream. It's Cool Whip. *sadness*

Food was very good, well portioned, and for the price and location - very reasonable.  If you are staying out in Temecula Wine Country and want somewhere to eat - definitely check this place out.  Excellent wine list and good quality food and service.  My only issue was the menu was a bit limited, but still the selections were fine.

Vineyard Rose is the restaurant attached to the South Coast Wine Resort. It is pretty much the epitome of resort dining; high prices, predictable menu, upscale vibe, fair service, large portions and mediocre food. While the Wine Resort itself is extremely beautiful and has some wonderful wines (that I have found superior to most wineries I have frequented in more popular Napa and Sonoma) the restaurant is not on par with the rest of the resort. As they essentially cater to a captive audience with very limited competition within walking distance I do not expect them to exert much effort into improvements, though that would really enhance the entire resort experience if they opted to elevate the culinary aspect of the resort. The room itself is quite nice, high ceilings, well spaced out tables, windows gazing out at the vineyard and well landscaped grounds of the resort and al fresco seating available.

Tonight my wife ordered the wedge salad and the prime rib while I chose the French onion soup and lamb duo (chops and sirloin). My wife was pretty happy with her selections aside from her baked potato being dry and her request for sour cream being forgotten (when she mentioned this she was told it already had sour cream and no offer to bring more was made; when she tasted it she was unable to discern or see any evidence of sour cream). My soup was fair, but at $10 I have had much better elsewhere for a few bucks less. My lamb was disappointing and I did it even finish it (rare for me); the texture was dry, portions cooked well past my request of medium rare and was under seasoned. The plate consisted of two chops, several ounces of sirloin, green beans and three fried potato/cheese "croquettes" (that looked like mozzarella sticks). At $34 I would expect better quality lamb and more interesting and fresh accompaniments.

Service was fair and while attentive (aside from the sour cream issue) it was on the impersonal side; everything was all about business. The pace of the meal was fast; appetizers arrived before the bread (freshly cooked white rolls), plates cleared as soon as the last bite was taken and the entrees arrived within a couple minutes of appetizers being cleared - we were in and out in 45 minutes. Again not what one would expect at this price point.

Vineyard Rose is open for all meals seven days per week. There is a chef's table dining experience available that might be fun if you do not have good upscale restaurants in your hometown, but probably not the best option if you live in a food centric city or are experienced with fine dining (cost is $135 per/person). The bar offers happy hour on weeknights from 4:00pm to 6:00pm with $3 off select wines and specials on select food items; a good option if you want to save some cash. There is also a tasting room for the vineyard next door and I highly recommend stopping by to do a tasting (last call is 5:45pm so would only be an option for an early dinner). If you belong to the resorts wine club (involving signing up for periodic deliveries of wines) you receive some free tastings (as well as access to a less crowded tasting room) and 10% off meals at the restaurant.

While Vneyard Rose is adequate, it certainly is a poor value and not a venue I would dine at unless staying at the resort

If you're looking for a standard american/steakhouse, Vineyard Rose will work for you.  If you're looking for something more creative (i.e., something different than green beans and carrots as the vegetable for every meal), I wouldn't recommend Vineyard Rose.  Service was great, but the food was a bit uninspired.

I really wanted to give this place 3.5 stars. The food was decent, not great. The service was decent not great.

Setting: my mom's big birthday. Sister and I took her to Temecula to try some wine tasting. Since we were staying at the hotel, we decided to try the restaurant for the big birthday dinner.

We ordered the swordfish, the frutti di mare and the prime rib. We got the wine pairing selected by the restaurant with each dish. Great idea!  The wine pairings were a 5 star for sure.

My mom said the swordfish was "delish."  I tried a scallop off my sister's plate and it was really fresh.

Now my prime rib. There really wasn't much flavor. I had to **gasp** salt my au jus. I asked for veggies instead of a starch and only one portion was brought out.

They did redeem themselves by bringing my mom her choice of birthday dessert gratis. She chose the Flour less chocolate cake. I didn't have any but I heard it was decent.

If you're looking for a peaceful, wine country lunch, this is not the place. South Coast Winery is like the amusement park of wineries in Temecula. It seems to be the chosen place for every bachelorette party (saw a veil of plastic penises yesterday), baby shower, wedding shower, and birthday. So, yes, it's pretty chaotic. Also, we had a party of 11 people for our outing and they had to put together 3 round tables to accommodate us. When I looked around, I realized they have no long, rectangular tables, which seems very odd for a place that hosts so many big parties. It was an awkward set-up.

If you do come here, sit outside. And know that the food is pretty good. I got a build-your-own omelet, which came with hash browns and a berry compote thing. It was good--not a huge portion size, but adding a couple of the delicious rolls from the bread basket did the trick for me.

They have good wines too. Try the sparkling Pinot Grigio for something different and refreshing.

After reading some of the reviews here before heading to Temecula, I was skeptical about even having breakfast at VRR. However, it only took a free coupon for a banana pancake to convince me. All kidding aside, this place was much better than what I expected. I had the egg white omelette with spinach, mushrooms and ricotta (?!) cheese. Note to chefs: PLEASE consider replacing the ricotta with goat or even feta cheese. Despite my ambivalence toward ricotta and eggs, I enjoyed the sizable omelette for the most part. It also came with hash browns and a blueberry cobbler side. Had I known these items were included (the menu makes no reference to them and leads you to believe that all sides are extra), I would have simply asked for a dry toast substitute. Instead, I ordered toast on the side, ate it, and decided to forgo the other accompaniments. The bf had the breakfast burrito and most of the banana pancake. I had a bite and that was enough to satisfy my sweet tooth for a month! Total for breakfast was about 25.00 w/o tip. I figured that's average 'round these parts.

Need a burrito fix after a long day of winetasting in Temecula? Their hearty breakfast burrito gets the job done at 3.5/5 salsa packets. Bravo.

This place is 10 miles from our house and so whenever we have friends and family in town or just feel like dining out, we come here for some good food and delicious wines. In fact, the first weekend we moved into our new house, we spent the weekend staying at the resort, did the wine tasting as well as ate at this restaurant. It was wonderful!

I've been here a few times and I will say that dining outside on the patio with views of the winery is the best place to dine, so if it's nice out, dine outside!

***The food from Vineyard Rose Restaurant is not horrible, but it is incredibly overpriced***

Vineyard Rose is the fine dining restaurant in South Coast Winery.  They serve breakfast, lunch, late afternoon bites, and dinner.  You can also get most of their food offerings if you are staying at one of South Coast's villas.

For dinner, Vineyard Rose is incredibly overpriced.  Entrees, while they sound decent, run in the high $30s and $40s.  I had the French onion soup and it was not that good.  The flavor was not that bad and the onions were good, but I did not like the bread--one very big, soggy and unappetizing glob.  There was not much cheese either.  While the chain Mimi's does not feature much bread in their French onion soup, I actually think Mimi's French onion soup is more satisfying and appetizing than Vineyard Rose's version.

I also tried the herb marinated chicken skewers, which were served with peanut sauce.  The peanut sauce was fine but kind of generic.  The chicken was a little tough and dry and the outside sear was not that good.

Their complimentary bread was just okay; the parmesan crusted rolls were not bad.

Their cheese plate was very big but disappointing and pricey.  The cheeses were just okay--kind of like cheeses you would expect to find from a good grocery store or a decent market.  The garnishes of fruit compote and honey were not well plated.  Both were already kind of spread across a few of the cheeses so they were hard to use with the other cheeses.  There were other garnishes like hazelnuts, apples and crackers and they were just average.

As mentioned, prices were very high--probably because Vineyard Rose has a captive audience (people staying at South Coast).  The prices at Vineyard Rose remind me of the upscale restaurants attached to wineries or inns in Napa Valley and Sonoma County, but the food in those two areas is significantly better.

Vineyard Rose does offer lower prices at breakfast and lunch so I would advise you try them then if you really want to give this restaurant a shot.  Given the high prices and mediocre to below average quality, I would definitely avoid them for dinner.  Also (as you can see by the management comment below), some of the items are less expensive if you have them during happy hour; therefore, trying Vineyard Rose during happy hour might be a much greater value than their regular dinner prices.

As mentioned, Vineyard Rose Restaurant is part of South Coast Winery, which has its own free parking lot; you should be able to find a space, but you might be in for a walk during peak times.

All I have to say is that the BANANA PANCAKES are to DIE for!!!  I am not a pancake fan but we ended up getting the most delicious banana pancakes I have EVER had because they were free (well, not totally free---free with a nights stay at the winery).  We also got the Vineyard Breakfast and although the hashbrowns could have been could more, the bacon was cooked to perfect crispiness.  The service was top notch and the decor grand with its high ceilings and warm decor.  Wonderful is all I have to say!

This place is a gem.  I'm just sad that I live 1.5 hrs from this place that I can't just come back whenever I want.

The hubby brought me to the South Coast Winery for a surprise weekend getaway.  We made reservations for dinner at this restaurant and the hubby also surprised me with a mimosa brunch the day after.  So, this will be a two part review.

    Dinner

It took awhile for us to be seated even though we made a reservation.  We waited by the bar close to the hostesses.  The hostesses were kind of on the gossipy side.  They were really chatty and giggly which to me kind of ruined the whole experience of the place.  The high end, booshie ambience were kind of marred by the gossipy hostesses.  Eh, not a big deal.  But I digressed.  I'm here to review the food mostly.  Me and the hubby got the Thai coconut shrimp appetizer and we both got the prime rib.  The shrimp was pretty damn awesome.  We especially liked the thai sweet chili sauce that came with it.  The prime rib was absolutely amazing.  It came out perfectly done to our chose done-ness.  The horseradish cream that came with it was so good that I ended up putting it on the baked potato as well.  Dinner was as good as it gets and everything was decently priced too.  Definitely worth the money we paid.  For dinner, I give this place 4 stars.  I knocked them down a star for the gossipy hostesses.

    Brunch

Bar none, the best breakfast I've had anywhere.  Me and the hubby both got the Vineyard Breakfast.  The eggs were perfectly cooked.  The bacon were crispy, just how I like it.  The hash brown had a nice crunch on the outside while the inside were moist and fluffy.  Best hash brown ever!  The merlot berry cobbler on the side was such a perfect touch.  The hubby saw the Banana Foster Pancake on their menu and couldn't help ordering it on top of the food we already had.  I'm so glad he did though.  I'm not usually a big pancake fan but this was truly something else.  The pancake was so nice and fluffy.  The vanilla bean syrup on top was seriously the icing on the cake.  I'm a sucker for anything banana foster so seriously, my hubby is a genius for ordering it.  Honestly, I'd give this place 6 stars for their brunch menu but since I can't, I'm giving them 5 stars.  But if I'd been able to give them 6 stars, that would make the average between brunch and dinner a 5 star.

I love the food here.  I'd definitely come back when given the chance to.

Meh! I wasn't impressed with this restaurant. We came for dinner on a Sunday night since we're staying at the resort. We started off with crab cakes and ceviche, both were just ok. The waiter brought us hot sauce to spice up the ceviche. For dinner I had the prime rib which was quite tasty actually. It came with a wedge salad which was nothing special and a potato which was ok. My husband had lamb which he thought was ok but he had better. It also came with these potato things that were good. For dessert we had a fudge Sunday which was good. It was all in all just ok.

I always take my out-of-towners here to show off wine country. I love their breakfast options and always eat on the patio if its warm outside. They keep my coffee cup full and i never feel like the waiter's rushing us out of the restaurant. Can't beat the views of wine country either.

As a member of South Coast's wine club, I frequent the winery to pick up wines and partake in wine tastng, but I had never eaten at their Vineyard Rose Restaurant.  Regrettably, this changed today.

My wife, mother-in-law,  and I stopped in the restaurant for lunch today before wine tasting.  We were brought glasses of water to start, and mine had lipstick on the glass.  I am pretty sure the lipstick was not mine, so I requested a new glass.  We were then brought a bread basket to nibble on before our entrées arrived.   The bread was stale or it had been sitting in a warming bin way too long.  Either way, it was barely edible.

My mother-in-law ordered a pizza with jalapeños on it.  The centers of the jalapeños were black, a sign that they were rotten.  This should have been noticeable to the chef slicing them, so putting them on the pizza is inexcusable.  Luckily, after speaking to the manager, the pizza was removed from the bill.

I ordered the french dip sandwich, which I actually enjoyed.  It was hot, juicy, and flavorful.  I really have no complaints.

As other Yelpers have mentioned, service was very slow.

I ended up eating here twice the weekend I stayed at South Coast Winery (3, if you count the room service sandwich by the pool). Anyhoo, originally we were only going to do dinner on Saturday with the group but since we got there kind of late on Friday and didn't feel like driving anywhere else we just went to the restaurant. At about 8:30 on a Friday it was pretty sparse, which was nice. This is a HUGE restaurant, but it still manages to feel a bit cozy with all the warm colors and muted lighting. The four of us split a bottle of Pinot (not from South Coast) and ordered the following: I had their Frutti di Mare pasta--LOADED with all kinds of awesome stuff like crab, scallops, lobster meat, mussels and clams in a creamy tomato sauce. So good. Another person ordered the scallops and potatoes, which had these giant seared scallops. Another person went the appetizer route and ordered the coconut shrimp, caprese roll and a bowl of the butternut squash bisque. I forget what the 4th person ordered but we all agreed that our meals were very, very good. We all also got the Vineyard Salad with our meals--no complaints there, everything was fresh and I liked how they had long thin slices of cucumber. We ordered decaf coffee and dessert (cheesecake and flourless chocolate). When the coffee was brought out we were disappointed at how it tasted like it'd been sitting around, and was not quite hot, besides. We sent those back and they promptly replaced them. They really should've known not to send out coffee like that, considering the prices they charge, but since it was immediately rectified not a huge deal. The cakes were great, btw, immaculately prepared and scrumptious. Sigh.

Second night was with a larger group, so I can't remember what everyone had, but since I was so full from the early wine tastings and huge lunch I didn't order much. I just had their Shrimp & Scallop Tropical Ceviche and a caesar salad. I really liked the ceviche, but I think I've had better. It was also a Saturday night, so it was much more crowded and boisterous, but since the place is so dang big it didn't feel too hectic. Overall a very good restaurant, convenient if you're staying at the resort and good for special occasions and large parties.

My husband and I stayed at the South Coast Winery, where the Vineyard Rose Restaurant is located, in July.  We had breakfast on the restaurant's patio on two occasions.  The patio was so pretty and relaxing.  I could definitely have breakfast there every morning!

The staff was friendly and very accommodating

Two stand-out edibles are the banana foster pancake and the Merlot  fruit cobbler..  The pancake is decadently delicious.  Sweet and satisfying.   The Merlot cobbler comes with their savory dishes.  It is so good that I told them that I wanted them to package them for sale!  I would have bought a dozen of them.  One caution, I would stay away from the California spa omelette.   It's just not worth being that good.  There are so many really tasty items on the menu no need to to waste a vacation morning on a sub-par bland dish.

LOVE this place. The food is awesome and if you become a South Coast WIne Member you get a discount here. Just flash your little member card and BAM! Anyhoo the food is amazing. And just a short walk from the villas at the resort this place makes for a nice stroll in the evening for a nice dinner. DINE IN THE PATIO. It overlooks the vineyards and has that sort of romantic ambiance about it.

The place is very spacious.  But we had to split our group into 2 tables since it was busy and we didn't have a prior reservation so its not their fault.  Decor, inside and outside is good too!

Margherita Pizza and Calzones were good but not out of this world!

The surrounding grounds are beautiful. We got here just before the sunset and we asked the hostess if we could push our reservation back about 15 mins so we could take pictures. I'm sure because we were there on a Monday night it wasn't a problem, but she was super friendly. Once we got the touristy pics outta the way, we were shown to our table. The venue had nice lighting and a quiet little buzz of chatter going on so it wasn't dead quiet nor hard to hear. Kurt was our server and he was amazeballs! Not too pushy, very informative and passionate responses about his menu favorites! I love that!

We settled on the Frutti di Mare and the Strip Loin Steak. I also ordered the sweet corn & clam saffron chowder. OH-EM-GEE!! One of the best bowls of chowder EVER!! That shizz is the bomb!! My seafood pasta was awesome! It was rich and savory with TONS of seafood! I was slightly a little disappointed there wasn't more pasta.... I know right?! But it had a nice variety of crab, lobster, fish, clams, shrimps and two BIG scallops that were cooked PERFECTLY!!

The BF's strip steak was good and a generous serving, but I think he had food envy and I was FINALLY the winner that night! =)

Oh btw, I had a glass of their 2008 South Coast, GVR (Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Roussanne) and I liked it a lot. I wanted a glass of red wine so badly, but they always say white wine should be paired with seafood or vice versa. So I'm glad I tried something new. It was kind of a mix between a Reisling and a Cabernet Sauvignon ('scuse the spelling).

Last but not least, we said we were celebrating our anniversary so we got to pick a complimentary dessert! We settled on the Summer Berry Crostata~ Warm Berry Compote & Buttermilk Ice Cream, which was a great ending because it wasn't too sweet, but satisfied any sweet tooth craving you might have had. The fruit blend was nice and tart and went really well with the buttermilk ice cream (maybe the best part of dessert).

I was definitely a happy camper and will definitely be back. Thanks Kurt for making our evening so enjoyable... and also asking to check our IDs!! =)

So I have been wanting to write this review for awhile but have been too busy to do any reviews lately. Anyways, I had brought my mom and dad here for a Pre-Mother's Day Brunch and wine tasting day. Since I was a member of South Coast Winery's wine club, I figured I should try the restaurant that was attached to it.

I had made reservations ahead so when we got in they sat us down right away. Since we had not had anything to eat prior to our long drive out there we were hungry and was glad that not too long after sitting down they have served us some rolls. The rolls were nice and warm and they served it with a butter that I believe is mixed with some chives and garlic.

When we decided to order I ended up getting the California Spa Omelet and my parents both got the steak and eggs.

When the food came we were so disappointed. Even though when I first saw my omelet it looked delicious when I took a bite it tasted watered down. I knew that this was supposed to be a lighter omelet however, I didn't taste and of the scallions in it. Also, it seemed a little watery to me, it may have been from the ricotta.

My parents steak and eggs was worse. Looking at it you saw these small 3 medallions which looked dry. They had ordered medium and for sure they have got well done on these steaks. Anyways, it tasted just as dry as it looked.

In addition to our dish each came with some hash brown (which we all finished cause, you really can't go wrong with that) and a fruit cobbler. Which was way too sweet for our taste.

In addition the service was okay, I know there was a few times I was looking all over the place to find someone to help us and wouldn't be able to find someone.

I was really embarrassed to taken my mom to have such a poor meal given that we had read about the Mother's day Brunch that they were offering the next day sounded so good. Maybe we should have stuck with the pizzas since that's what most of the other tables were getting.

Incredibly overpriced and overrated. I was very disappointed with the food. Breakfast was just OK, nothing special and certainly not worth the price. Dinner was absolutely horrible.

First, we ordered a salad and asked for the dressing on the side, but it came covered in dressing. The waiter just walked away quickly before I could say anything. Let me say that this "salad" was a pile of lettuce smothered in dressing that tasted horrible (not sure what it was, something oil based, but BAD), and nothing else in it other than a few very small pieces of pine nuts and onions. It was not good and not worth $8.

The ahi dinner was $30 and WAY overpriced. Whatever sauce they had on there tasted like a bowl of salt. It was HORRIBLE. I could barely even eat it. Waiter did not even come by our table much at all. Definitely not happy about the food quality or the service here. We spent way too much money when we could have gone up the road to a number of other places.

The dining room is beautiful and romantic.  The servers are very friendly and attentive.

The food itself is lackluster, however.  We started off the meal with the crab cake appetizer and the gnocchi al fresco.  The crab cake was decent.  The gnocchi, however, was bizarre.  It was not made with potato and tasted incredibly floury/grainy.  For the entree course, I tried the butter poached scallops with pumpkin risotto.  Overall this dish was very bland and the scallops were over cooked, giving it a "cafeteria food" quality.  My husband had the filet which proved to be a much better choice than the scallops.  We finished the meal with the flourless chocolate cake which was incredibly dense and very bland.

This restaurant is so beautiful and has such potential, but the food just does not meet expectations, especially not for the steep price tag.

    3.5

The Vineyard Rose offers a very nice atmosphere and is just a few feet away from the Tasting Room at the South Coast Winery.

I had dessert there one night and while it looked pretty, it did not taste very good. The brown sugar cheesecake was more of a flat, round tart. The consistency was off for cheesecake and the flavor was lacking. The fresh fruit served with it was a nice, flavorful touch but the dessert itself was sub-par.

We also tried the warm apple cobbler with buttermilk ice cream. It wasn't warm or a cobbler. It, too, was a flat, round tart with an undercooked crust, slices of apples and not much else. The buttermilk ice cream had a nice tart flavor but was too icy. Again, the fruit was good. Cappuccino was well made.

Breakfast fared much better. I had the scrambled eggs with bacon and hash browns. Eggs were standard, bacon plentiful and crispy, hash browns standard. What set this meal over the edge was the bananas foster pancake. I do not generally like sweet breakfast but this was downright delicious and should have been offered as a dessert in the restaurant the night before. One large fluffy pancake topped with vanilla bean sauce and caramelized bananas. Only complaint is I would have liked more of those bananas!

Note: Breakfast is only served on the patio on Sundays, which is quite lovely on a nice day..

I came for a work event one Friday. We had a gorgeous private room off to the side. For drinks, I got a Romanza wine, a red fruity wine at the suggestion of my friend and it was super yummy! Best part was I didn't feel the typical hot redness on my face that I usually get when I drink. Damn Asian alcohol syndrome!

We tried cheese platters. Not bad ;). We also got the poke with wonton chips.
Tasted good but the dish only came with a few wonton chips :(

For my entree, I got the truffle chicken, which was quite yummy and portions were huge! The medley of mushrooms and vegetables were soaking in the truffle oil that made them super Ono!

Lastly, the creme brûlée with berries is a must try! Great flavor and texture! Perfect crispy crust! Will definitely order this again!!!

My husband and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary at the Vineyard Rose for dinner. We ordered a bottle of their 2009 South Coast, Sauvignon Blanc. It was delicious, clean and crisp.

The service was great and the food was AMAZING! I had the Lamb Duo. Tender and not gamey tasting at all. It came with 2 Lamb Chops, a 4oz filet, croquettes, and some butter eggplant. Very good! And my husband ordered the Butter Poached Scallops. Scallops poached in butter on a bed of pumpkin risotto. It was to die for! So so so good!

We had mentioned to the waitress that we were celebrating our anniversary, and at the end of our meal, she brought out a complimentary dessert, their Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee with Fresh Berries. It was very good as well.

I highly recommend the Vineyard Rose, and we will go back

Just had dinner here and am contemplating picking up a burger on the way home. Service was slow, restaurant was noisy, food was lousy, and for this we paid $140!

My husband ordered the filet, it was the worst filet he has ever been served at any restaurant. Fatty and gristle throughout. I ordered the Frutti di mare, nothing good to say about it. I believe I only had about five bites before pushing it away. I tried my brother-in-law's salmon as well. It was just weird. It was like the fish was seasoned with pumpkin pie, not a good taste combination.

    We will not be back.

My friend and I went here for brunch after running a race in the area. Granted, we were famished and ready to eat anything, but the Vineyard Rose exceeded our expectations. The place is very large, and we had no problem getting a same-day brunch reservation on a Saturday. Decor was beautiful, and I assume that the red flowers and banners in the rafter are in preparation for Valentine's Day.

I had the Ahi Poke, which was delicious and flavorful. The pickled vegetables and cream sauce are great accents. Crusty rolls and a delicious garlic and herb butter came free with our meal, and it was hard to resist filling up before the entrees. I had the artisan grilled cheese and tomato soup, which was a nice gourmet turn on a simple dish. The cheese bread it was served on was perfect for a cheese lover like me, and the tomato soup was chunky and rich. I tried some of my friend's pizza, which featured goat cheese and pears. Unconventional, but delicious! I also found the prices reasonable for the area, having checked out menus from several area eateries before our trip.

In addition to great atmosphere, the service was fabulous. My coffee and water were never less than half full, and even though we were sitting in a corner, the servers were incredibly attentive. I would definitely come back here again and recommend it to other visitors.

Romantic dinner, dim lighting, & charming decor. Booths available, jazz band played tonight & couples dancing cheek to cheek. Excellent service & sparking wines-- tried the carbonated muscato & gerzw--5*

Warm bread-- ask for oil & vinegar to dip. Butter was flavored with green tidbits.

Seafood linguine-5* loaded with large shrimp, scallops, mussels, pasta cooked perfectly & tomato based creamy sauce was light. Thanks yelpers for the recommendation!

Salmon-5* grilled/ seared flakey fillet juicy

Spinach pear salad-4* ordered bacon dressing on the side. Goat cheese hit the spot.

Creme brûlée-5* perfectly caramelized top ( too bad they don't torch it in front of you)

2* mushroom appetizer-- one kind of mushroom (button) I didn't read the menu & assumed there was going to be shitake, portabella, etc... Braised sauce was good.

Ceviche was Ok. Needed more kick. Looked pretty.

    Nice date place.

My girlfriend and I actually had a nice time here.  The service was friendly.  The atmosphere romantic.  But the food was a mixed bag.  The clam chowder was the best thing we ate.  It was actually really good.  Everything else was decent.  Besides that, we left happy.

The problem is when I think back to the food quality compared to the price, it's not really worth it.  For those prices, you can find really good food.  I guess when you're in vacation price mode, it doesn't bother you as much.  But if you can, don't be duped.  Go elsewhere.

Is there anything better than a mimosa, overlooking a vineyard on a Sunday Morning? The answer is yes....having all of that plus a babysitter....which is what Mr. R and I had =)

We chose to end our trip at Vineyard Rose Restaurant, which is on the grounds of the beautiful South Coast Winery. The inside seating is dark and not as spectacular as the patio seating, so I would wait a little if necessary for the patio. You can also make reservations on Open Table through their website.

I ordered the rolled omelet, which came with hash browns and a berry cobbler dessert. Mr. R ordered the Eggs Benedict and then we opted for a single bananas foster pancake to share.
The omelet was a little to firm for my taste, I dare say it was overcooked, the hash browns were perfect, but I found the berry cobbler (which is served in a tiny cup on your plate) too sweet.

The Eggs Benedict was quite tasty and will be what I order next time.
So why the 5 stars? WELL! The bananas foster pancake (picture enclosed) is 10 times better tasting than it looks. It melted in my mouth and was cinnamon-y, savory, sweet, fluffy, crispy and just plain heavenly! It was just $7 to add it to our meals and I would highly recommend doing so. I think if I ate more than half of one I would regret it...that is my pants size would, so I would order eggs and then 1 heavenly pancake to share. The mimosa was fantastic.
    I will return!

Was told by several of my friends that if I'm ever in Temecula I have to check out the restaurant inside South Coast Winery.  Well, I gotta say that I truly enjoy the wines produced here at South Coast Winery (a different review by itself which will be conducted soon), but Vineyard Rose Restaurant is not as glamorous as I have anticipated...

The overall decor was terrific!  Dark wood almost cigar room like atmosphere takes over the dinner room.  Some of the tables were actual tables while some had single king chairs around the tables (perhaps it was for the bar?  (but then why it's incorporated into the dining room?)  Strange but ok... (at least it looked nice)

Service by the hostess was decent I guess but since I asked where I can order for a take-out... they looked at me funny and said please proceed to the bar.  I'm thinking...couldn't a guy get a take out at this place without the weird look?  I wasn't trying to be cheap but after our quick wine tasting I just wanted the so called famous "calamari" to go because we were on our way to Pala Casino.  So the reason was for "on the go" and not because I'm "being cheap" ok?

Then the bartenders were slightly rude too... I sat there for literally 5 minutes while 3 bartenders leaned against the wall chatting away, and finally someone came by and ask if they can help.  I told him I wanted to order the calamari to go, he did not confirm my order and immediately looked at another couple and asked them what they wanted to drink...  (and also if they like to see the appetizer menu)  WTH?  (What the heck?  Censored version of WTF)

Finally, a nicer bartender came by from the dining area and was actually pretty nice and helpful.  He told me how long it would be and that he'd check on it for me.  Sure enough, 5 minutes or so later he came out with the order and I was on my way out.  So one good service, rest less than meh in my books...

So got into the car with my party and had to open up the so called "great calamari" to see how tasty this thing is... well, hmm.. how can I put it....  It's not really that great.... (I make much better calamari fritti than here!)  The only thing that they got going here was the fact that they had lots of shrimp in there which is worth the $14.00 cost for this appetizer.  Otherwise, it is on the steep end for sure.

Granted I've only tried one dish, I don't think I will be back for more here at this restaurant. (due to taste, price, and distance)  Perhaps the service at the dining tables are better?  But paying at the prices I'm anticipating, seeing how some of the people work here, and also potentially how the food may taste I rather save my bucks for Pala since it's literally another 15+ minutes away anyway.

The winery is very nice, but Vineyard Rose... it's not really all that rosy for how much you will be shelving out of your wallet.  (But I'm sure you will enjoy the atmosphere!)

Don't forget some of their award winning wines on your way out!

This is going to be my first time to put one star review....my heart is broken.

BUT!! My liver was in pain!!!

I went there with my friend for breakfast.
There was wine tasting place in the area.

Yes, for sure I was not drunk when I tasted their food and yes I am not drinking when I am writing this review.

When I had a first bite their meal, a few things came into my mind.

The chief was drunk when he/ she made my salmon panini?

Am I suppose to get drunk to taste their salty food?

The salt container was broken so that accidentally they pour all the salt?

Are they trying to make me thirsty so that I will buy a wine tasting ticket?

Are they trying to kill me?

    0 star for food
One star for their nice service

While staying at South Coast Winery Spa & Resort, I did not want to get out and drive around the wine country searching for a place to eat. The Vineyard Rose serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and a weekend brunch. It is located in the main building.

Having breakfast on their outdoor terrace overlooking a courtyard and vineyard was enjoyable, mainly because there is not many restaurants in the Southbay that can compare.

For breakfast, we took the advice of the registration person and ordered the Rolling Hills 'Foster' Banana pancakes and the Bistro steak and eggs. The banana pancakes is a large buttermilk pancake topped with slices of bananas, banana foster sauce and a vanilla bean sauce. the pancake was fluffy and moist, the sauces were tasty. The bistro steak and eggs are cuts of Angus beef, pan seared (ordered Med-rare) on a bed of haystack onion, hash browns, a Merlot fruit cobbler, eggs cooked to your liking and a side of salsa. The Angus steak was delicious with bits of the onions with every bite. Let's give some credit to the coffee served, as it made the whole breakfast experience enjoyable.

As we continue on for dinner at the Vineyard Rose, the indoor seating is  dark with a slight Mediterranean touch and high beam ceiling. We had order the 'Dine 39' special for the evening. This is a three course meal starting with the Estate Beef 'Tartar', Prosciutto, Arugula Pesto & sweet tomatoes. Second course is the Paella with shrimp, clams, mussels and chicken on saffron rice. The third and final course is a Lemon Curd tart with Macerated Strawberries. The wine paired, was a SCW Sauvignon Blanc.

I thought the Paella was a little bland and served too wet. The Lemon tart, a little sour, but I'm not a lemon dessert person. The wine that was paired, for me is too sweet for this dinner. We were offered to choose a different wine selection, but I wanted to try their choice to compliment the meal.

Overall, while staying at SCW, the dining experience was great, but took the one star for the Paella and lemon tart. As I will return to SCW, I will dine in the Vineyard Rose again. Cheers!

    THE GOOD:
Their Salads are fantastic and to be commended:

Their Heirloom Tomato salad offers a really tasty and refreshing blend of items:  Greek Yogurt, Cucumber, Pickled Onions served alongside beautiful Heirlooms.  Had it twice during my stay.

Their Wedge Salad is also excellent.  Comes w/ a hard-boiled egg, bacon bits, lightly-pickled cucumbers, along w/ "real" blue cheese that somehow isn't overwhelming.  Good work.

Complementary Bread w/ butter-mixed-with-chives is also awesome.  So much so I consumed way more butter than I probably should have.

Shrimp and Calamari appetizer was tasty, good job w/ the frying & batter.

    THE BAD:
The Steak:  Ordered a $40 Rib-eye for dinner.  My single biggest pet peeve is when the server/cook leaves the steak sitting for too long after cooking, allowing it to cool.  That's exactly what happened.   The steak's flavor, marbling, consistency were all simply OK, so coupled w/ the temperature, it was def a disappointment.

Lack of condiments for baked potatoes:  served alongside many of their main dishes - but are you seriously going to not provide chives or green onions?  Even when we requested it, it was not provided.   Yet plenty of chives in their house butter for their bread.  (I guess that tasty butter is outsourced ...).

Chocolate Souffle wasn't a chocolate Souffle.  It was more like a Mousse.

Crab Cake appetizer was ok-tasting, but $14 for one "satisfactory" crab cake?  I'd recommend skipping it.

    THE SO-SO:
The service.  Definitely friendly, well-intentioned, even casual.  But the customer probably shouldn't have to request steak knives for their steaks (which led to even more cooling opportunity for my steak, ack).  Or when receiving change from a $20 bill for a $14 breakfast, getting it in a $5 and $1 for tip options.

    SUMMARY:
Come for lunch, order their salads.

    Yes.

This place has quite a few things I liked...
    Steak, check.
Reasonable wine list as far as price and selection, check.
Decent get your drinking day started breakfast, check.
Service with one of those, pearly white things, what are those called? Oh yes, a smile, check.

In addition to those things, it has a lovely patio area that overlooks the property of the South Coast Winery and Resort. There really aren't a whole lot of dining option is the TV, so having this as a standby is a good idea. They seem to consistently deliver and that's quite nice in the restaurant world.

    Happy wining and dining!

Great for lunch.  For around $12-18/entree, it is a regularly priced hotel restaurant, but the one factor that sets this aside is that it is actually quality food.

The starting bread was not just basic, out of the plastic onto your butter knife, sort of starter.  It was a very yeasty and warm change of pace that showed the quality of the meal to come.
The fried calimari/shrimp appetizer was a little too underfried for my taste.  Oh, and to the chef that is not reading this, learn to let fried things drain.  I know it's an appetizer and we're hungry, but this was literally slipping out of my hands. 3 stars overall, but 5 stars for the aioli.  It was amazing dipping sauce.
Ok, so far not so good, but the salmon and swordfish that I had were perfectly cooked.  Nice portions of fish, not overcooked, and seasoned simply, but well.  4 Stars.

But what kept this place from a 3 to a 4, of course, was the environment.  It was beautiful day (hopefully it will be for you too) and it was just amazing looking out at the vineyard and all the villas.

Definitely go after wine tasting because you might be too full to enjoy the flavors afterwards.  But then again, you might be kind of too drunk.  Up to you, but definitely a nice way to spend a lunch in wine country.
