a rip off palace. Â I asked the bartender if there were any beer specials. Â
She said no and then recommended an Allagash White. Â I had two beers and when the bill came it was $16. Â Eight bucks a beer...after I asked if there were any specials!!!! Â
This is like some Saigon dive bar where the bar girls order champagne and you end up getting rolled. Â
Avoid at all costs.
I won't be able to review the food here, because...well...I've never actually had the food here.
The only thing I ever get here are drinks!
For your Friday night outing, this place is a fantastic hang-out, neighborhood bar, "where everybody knows your name" type of place.
The set up is very simple: bar to your left, booths to your right. Â I've only ever sat in one of the booths, when I wasn't able to stand up straight anymore :)
The bartenders here are great! Brad always manages to keep a great atmosphere in the bar!
Overall, I think this is more of a bar that happens to serve food. Â You have to be 21 to get in, so yes you can smoke indoors.
I guess I can see the appeal of this place if you live nearby. Â It seems as if it would be a decent enough neighborhood bar given the lack of better options in the area. Â But as someone just stopping by to grab some lunch because I was in the area, I can't say that I am a fan.
I walked in and seated myself at the bar. Â The first thing I noticed was the overpowering smell of cigarette smoke. Â Why does any restaurant still allow indoor smoking? Â Ridiculous. Â The place is small and pretty dark, but not overly so. Â
The waitress came over and took my drink order relatively quickly. Â She wasn't overly friendly (actually she barely said anything at all), but provided sufficient service. Â It seemed as if she was really the only one working on this particular day, so kudos to her for providing prompt service.
I ordered the cajun burger, but could barely detect any of the cajun seasoning. Â The reason that I ordered this was because the menu advertised that it came with "fried onions". Â When I hear "fried onions", my brain immediately thinks of those French's crispy things that everyone's grandmother puts on top of green bean casserole. Â What came on my burger was not "fried onions". Â I'd more accurately classify them as "barely sauteed onions". Â Disappointing. Â I ordered the sweet potato fries as my side and they were probably the best part of the meal. Â They had the perfect amount of sweetness and were finished with course salt - just the way I like them.
If I were in the area again, this definitely wouldn't be my first choice.
I just have to write an update for this place because it's just a fantastic local spot for Smyrna. They have added a Stein Club and a multitude of craft beers to their selection. Service is always fantastic and the food is always good.
Just a heads up that you can order off the Zucca menu too - definitely try the Victory Pie Pizza or my personal fave, The Sicilian.
I had been looking for a good trivia place nearby and Vintage Tavern definitely has a good one on Tuesdays. The drink specials are great and the food and the atmosphere was perfect. It was not too crowded to hear and everyone seemed to be playing trivia. Originally I was going to order the chicken nachos but the bartender suggested the Southwestern Chips which were great, very nice chip to chicken to cheese ratio. I would definitely go back and look forward to another trivia night here.
Review Source:I try to go in off-peak hours as the place can get smokey during high traffic times. Â The bar keeps are excellent, address you by name, know what you want and are friendly. Â They have terrific burgers, thick and perfectly seasoned. Â My only disappointment is the poor ventilation when there are smokers in there. Â If it gets too bad, you can go through the doorway to the Zucca side which is smoke free.
Review Source:Oh I do love my dive bars! Â Decided to stop by after having dinner at Atkins. Â Man I wish I had come here instead. Â Wasn't too busy for a Friday night. Â Sat at the bar and had a beer in my hands fairly quickly. Â The bartenders have great personality. Â Now I always read a Creative Loafing at whatever bar I go to and was disappointed I wasn't able to read it at Atkins. Â Vintage Tavern must have read my mind because the bartender gave me one! Â A match made in heaven. Â I will definitely come back.
Review Source:beer selection is good enough. Â never had a cocktail. Â the food? Â eat before you go, unless you like your dinners bought wholesale, then heated in the kitchen. Â seriously subpar food. Â turkey burgers are awful. Â the ravioli "special" was frozen ravioli and sauce from a can. Â zucca ajoins vt, so it's quality is the same. Â some sandwiches are ok, but overpriced. Â it's kind of hard to mess up a club sandwich. Â although, the fries are always undercooked.
Review Source:Oh scoutmob where have you been my whole life. Was looking for a place to eat with a friend that had a scoutmob coupon and wasn't to far from the house. Enter Vintage Tavern. It was pretty dead when we got there but that was a-okay with us we weren't looking for a party just a chance to grab a drink and bite to eat while we caught up.
The place is small so if you are looking for a table get there early tables are first come first serve. This place is really more of a bar than a restaurant but I will say the food was delicious perfectly priced bar food. I got the "hot wing" chicken sandwich it was really good! The drinks were poured with the perfect amount of liquor. I really have no complaints at all.
If I am looking for some simple bar food this will be the place to go. One thing to note you can smoke inside and it is smokey after being there for more than 5 minutes I no longer noticed it.
I'm surprised I've never reviewed this place, it's really close by and I have strolled through a few times over the years. It's a decent bar, small though, smoky, and pretty average service at best. The beer selection is laughable, but the food isn't bad, they share a kitchen with Zucca next door but that doesn't slow down the cooking too much, food comes out quick as long as your server is capable of keeping up with it. They have TVs set up at each table with is cool, but it's so loud inside you won't hear a thing from them. Oh well.
Review Source:If you are looking for a great dive bar in Smyrna, you have found it at Vintage Tavern.
This place is where you come when you want to have a few drinks and get away from big crowds. It does get crowded late at night, but for happy hour it is great to come here with a friend or two and have a great conversation over a few cocktails.
The staff here is great. They serve up the brews and some pretty interesting conversation as well.
Went here to watch the falcons game this past weekend because let's be honest. Â The real falcons fans live OTP (which I don't).
They have a fantastic t.v. setup of about 10 on the walls. Â They also have a private t.v. at your booth. Â This is a plus if you are a fantasy player like me because I like to see four or five games at a time.
The Bloody Mary's were amazingly good. Â Even the people who ventured out from the Buckhead/EAV areas of the world agreed that they were some of the best they have had in ATL. Â This bar gives off a cheers type of vibe. Â Full disclosure: I have two friends who go there all the time so they get rockstar treatment. Â
It's right next door to Zucca so you can order from their menu if you like. Â The Buffalo Chicken sandwich was extremely good. Â Definitely get the sweet potato fries. Â Those were legit.
They do allow smoking so if that isn't your thing be warned. Â The crowd was perfect for the game. Â Good, but not overly packed. Â They were into it which always makes it more fun.
Fun, good crowd, and unpretentious. Â It get's a thumbs up from me.
Although a relatively small space, this place is still fun times. Â The atmosphere is very chill and you can sit at a booth with your own personal TV-- so fun for game days! Â I've never really had any service complaint here. Â The only food I've tried, however, are the fries (which were darn good by the way). Â For those of you who are concerned, smoking is indeed permitted inside. Â I have a lot of fun just chatting it up with different people and playing tunes on the jukebox (and drinking of course).
Review Source:Vintage Tavern is a great spot to watch your fav NFL or College team play! Apparently, the bar just got a make-over and it looks great! The vibe is good and the guy bartenders are really cool; singing along to the juke box and cracking jokes. Female bartender not so cool. The Turkey Club is awesome and you can order pizza from the Zucca side too. Tavern is a great neighborhood spot! Side note, I wish they would only allow smoking outside.
Review Source:They've added "tables" (which are acutally wine casks/barrels with tops attached to them) outside so that you can dine "al fresco" and get this....they even added metal rings near the foot of the cask so that you can "hitch" your pooch to your table while you enjoy your dinner outdoors!
Stellar!
...Where everybody knows your name...
I totally see Vintage Tavern as the new Cheers. Me and 2 friends walk in, to a booth with a personal TV. It would've been all good had all the TVs come equipped with cable, but it was still nice watching 'The Family  Guy'. I started off with a 'Stella' (and I feel I have to give props to Lauren for even introducing me to this beer, love it/ya) then I decided to step outside the box and try a blue moon. Awesome choice. I ordered a pastrami sandwich. The sandwich was HUGE, but very dry. The menu was full of things I wanted to try, so when in the area, I plan on returning.
The crowd was pretty relaxed. This place gives you the option of playing board games, watching the big game on TV, or enjoying the bartender (a guy not girl) sing along to Rhianna.
I had a great time. The waitress was very nice, the place was very clean, the music was a bit loud but being that I was in more of a party mood it was OK. For 2 beers and my pastrami sandwich I paid $16. Not bad, being that my portion was more than enough for 2.
Pretty basic, laid-back bar. I ordered a newcastle from the bartender, who was pretty laid-back and gregarious. Interestingly, his response to everything was "Perfect", as in, "Can I see your ID? Perfect." He turns around, and then there's this massive, frosty bottle of newcastle sitting in front of me. Perfect. Â
They have a dart board as well, I think I might play the next time I'm here.
And one note on the smoke...there are plenty of non-smoking establishments around...try those.
Even if I despised the Vintage Tavern, I'd still give it a nearly glowing review because it be so damned close to where my dear Great Aunt and Uncle lived for nearly 40 or 50 years. If you think that Captain Drew be a character, you've no idea what you missed with those two... hard to visit without having nostalgia land on me great hairy chest like a 50 pound anchor.
Harrr.
I haven't a lot to add as Mel G.'s review be quite shipshape and Bristol-fashion. (Mmmm, bristols.....)
Me notes:
This bar isn't huge, so it doesn't get too loud.
You have two options at the Vintage: booths or bar. The bar be on your left as you enter, the booths be on your right.
The little flatscreens can be tuned by the people in the booth, so in theory you could watch your favorite television shows while you drink. Genius!!
The head, or "squatboxes" (waterclosets to you fine ladies), can be found in the back to the left and appear to be shared with that Italiano place, which you can stumble into for a good look around. I've ordered eggplant thing-a-ma-jiggy from the Zucca and it were right good.
The smoke do indeed be a great hindrance to enlightened space pirates like  myself. Perhaps the owners know that they'd be jam-packed every night if it weren't for the smoke.
