One word. TERRIBLE. It's been years since I've been back in Visalia and my brother and I just wanted a nice cold micro brew but when we walked in an sat at the bar, the bartender never never even looked at us.  After sitting at the bar for what seemed an eternity, we stood up and thanked her for the non service and left. The bartender was too busy flirting with a customer to pay us any attention. To top it off the placed wreaked of dirty mop and urine. Just a shame. We were looking forward to a nice  local beer spot.
Review Source:I'm a local and have always loved VBC, even before I was actually old enough to get in. I'm giving the bar 2 stars because of the service. None of the bartenders there are overly nice but that's expected, that place gets packed with annoying drunks. I've worked in hospitality/ food service. I get it. Regardless, there's a level of professionalism that should be maintained and for a couple of their bartenders, it's non-existent.
I'm specifically talking about the bartenders Sabrina, the short ,redhead and JR short, skinny guy.  Hands down, the absolute worst customer service everrrr.. The dude is rude with a condescending tone that is relentless. You practically have to jump over the bar for him to take your drink order even when the crowd has died down. (This is true for all of  the bartenders.) The chick is even worse!!!!!! One night she made eye contact with my fiends and  I as we were trying to wave her down and she completely ignored us. I went side of the bar she was on and she proceeded to help someone else who had just walked up to the bar . We  had been waiting for 10-15 mins by the time she was ready to acknowledge me! I told her how long we had been waiting and  with the ugliest attitude and most disrespectful tone, she began to argue with me!! Telling me I was wrong! She finally took our drink order but by that time they had already called "shots only" so we couldn't get any of the drinks we wanted. BUT, because she he knows one of guys in our group, she gave him and his friend cranberry vodkas saying " Oops, I accidentally mixed your drinks".  How nice. THEN one of the girls asked for a lime for her tequila shot which is usually how it's served (duh). This chick gave my friend the most evil look ( she looked seriously scary, like possessed scary!). She doesn't say a word, comes back with the lime in her bare hand and throws it on the disgusting bar. THIS IS REAL LIFE!
Believe me I'm not expecting 5 star service at this place and I don't need starbucks baristas serving my beers either. What I do need is management to do something about their staff. Until then, I won't spend another penny at that place. I'll get twice as many drinks for the same price at my favorite dive bar where the bartenders don't hate their lives.
I recently talked to one of the guys who was really nice about the whole thing. He let me know I'm not the first to complain and management is well aware of the problem. Hope something changes soon bc I'm gonna miss $2 Tuesdays. ;)
Last thing!! if anyone is hiring elsewhere please consider these bartenders! VBC is obviously sucking the life out of them!!!! HELP!!!!!!!
I went there for lunch and grabbed a quick burger. Â I was pleasantly surprised that it was very fresh and tasty. Â The bar told me that they didn't have a freezer so everything was fresh and it really tasted like it. Â The bun was fresh and soft and the meat was well seasoned and tender (not tough like frozen burgers can get). Â I have been on karaoke nights and it is very crowded but can be a lot of fun.
Review Source:For about 3 solid years I frequented this establishment and at first it was ok. Then the beer started tasting stale and the food has never been good. The service is horrible and so is the layout. But this place does have some charm to it. It's in a great place they usually have live music. They have so much potential but I think the management is lacking responsibility. Â Please change it up vbc I used to like your bar.
Review Source:I was in Visalia for three weeks for business. Â Being far away from home, it was nice to find a place to hang out where it was easy to strike up a combination with both the folks working here as well as the patrons, most of which were locals. Â Note: Â This is a joint. Â It is not a place to be seen, nor is it a fashionable hangout. Â It is a small, narrow, sometimes crowded joint in which I had a kick hanging out. Â It reminded me of a place I frequented as a college student (more than a few years ago), so that may have played a part in my embrace of VBC. Â The bartender Sabrina knows all the beers very well and can offer up some great new selections for you!
I came here by myself and with varying combinations of coworkers who were also in town to work on a project with me. Â We typically only came in for a beer or two per visit, and VBC has a plentiful supply of unique and delicious brews. Â We even stayed one night for karaoke - fun, if maybe not totally in tune! Â They also have a digital jukebox with some fun, outstanding songs.
TIP: Â 3 Words - Two Dollar Tuesdays! Â We tried some outstanding premium brews for the seriously inexpensive price of $2 a pint. Â Very good thing that our hotel was within walking distance: Â only 3 blocks away!
We did not try the food here. Â Rather, this became a place to either start or end our evenings, and for that it was outstanding!
This place is what you'd expect from a midtown bar. It's a bit rough, but they have a large selection of beers on tap at seriously good prices and a good handful of them are stuff you won't find anywhere else in town. They also serve food here but, unless you don't plan on going anywhere else for the night, don't plan on eating there. It's standard-issue pub food which is okay but certainly not the best in town. Though, to be fair, I'd rather eat here than some late night chain joint with abysmal food. It's one of the few bars that's open well into the night and, if you come out here on a Sunday or Monday night, expect it to be pretty quiet and unassuming, perfect if you're looking for a quick late-night drink.
Two-Dollar Tuesdays are ridiculous though. This place gets fist-pounding crowded and it's hard to even move around in there sometimes. I'm glad I'm not claustrophobic. However, if you're appalled by anything less than squeaky-clean restrooms, stay at home; your delicate sensibilities will probably be offended here. This place gets rightfully rowdy on specials nights and the dirt-cheap beers keep the patrons socially-lubricated and proper-happy, so know what you're getting yourself into when you come here. Their security staff, however, is hit-and-miss with me. I'm clearly older than some of them but I've been refused entry several times because, since I no longer own a car and never bothered to renew my driver's license, all I have is my citizenship card (beaner card, as my friends came to call it) and this apparently isn't good enough for a couple of the hired doormen who don't bother to take the time to look for my birthdate; clearly a violation of the sky-high standards set by the clientele who wander into here. But whatever, I'm a Hispanic male who grew up in the Central Valley, discrimination is practically a requirement for living here sometimes.
Bottom line: This is a sometimes-rowdy, sometimes-easy-going spot that has a really good selection of beers on tap at really great prices. If it's packed, it might take a while to get a drink, but it's mostly worth the wait.
I came here at midnight on a Sunday.  Went downtown with my boyfriend looking for a late night drink.  We'd been wanting to try out Crawdaddy's but it was Vaquero night and we didn't want to pay the $5 cover.  Not really our scene either. Luckily we spotted Visalia Brewing Co  There was about 7-8 people there.  I was surprised because it seemed like the rest of downtown was pretty much asleep.  They had an awesome selection of craft beers on the menu but were out of quite a few because it was the night before they get their weekly delivery.  Annoying, but having worked in the industry I know that this is pretty normal for a lot of places.  The bartender was able to make some excellent recommendations and it was only $5 for 2 beers. All day happy hours on Sundays.  Sweet!!!  Later we sampled a few of their fancy flavored vodkas.  They had fruit loop flavor which tasted excellent with sprite. Â
This place is a little bit of a dive bar but not too sleazy . Â I'll definitely be visiting more often.
It was ok untill Steve the cook left, now they have a bad cook and bad food and no more hot wing now the guy cooking makes wings with sause that taste like catsup. I dont think ill be going there any more to eat. gota find out where steve has gone, hopefully hes still making them habanero wings!!!
Review Source:First bar I ever drank at haha was a great experience! Went on a Sunday night. There was karaoke going on, so there were some regulars and some couples there already when we got inside. The beer was cheap but it was ok! The bartender though was not the friendliest so I cut a star for that. Another thing I didnt like was the layout, it's very small and narrow inside! On a friday night you cannot find a seat I kid you not! Alot of bodies packed into that tiny bar, it gets really annoying and crowded, not the best if you are just trying to hang out with friends and have a drink. If having someone's elbow stab you in the spine all night is not for you, then I suggest going on the off nights like the weeknights, but if you dont care, go on fridays and saturdays! Oh and I have also seen live bands play, so I'm sure it gets super busy on those nights too!
Review Source:All the locals come here on Tuesday! I'd go here if I was visiting Visalia - heck I live in visalia & I visit whenever I can! Wed-Fri is karaoke night & Tuesday is $2 beers with a $2 cover after 9! I recommend this spot for anyone who wants a cheap beer & a good vibe. You might meet your future wife here! Also, Sunday is Bloody Mary day and the beers are $2.50 with karaoke! Nobody is really here on a Sunday so if you have a group of friends that wanna drink cheap and sing without worrying about random people hearing them, then go on a Sunday!
Review Source:Beer is good, cold, and cheap. Â I'm writing about the wings! Â This is Steve's Place. Â I don't know what the deal is about the food, but they keep the two separate. Â Doesn't matter. Â These wings are awesome, and Steve makes his own habanero sauce. He makes various types and flavors, some better than others, but they are damn good and HOT!! Â It's not the hot that I love, it's the flavor! I've never tasted anything like it. Â The wings are fried, but very well spiced to begin with. Â Add Steve's sauce to the mix and you've got one hell of an awesome, kick ass chicken wing experience! Â I bought a bottle of his pineapple/habanero sauce and used it up within two weeks. Â Works on just about anything if you can handle the heat! Â I reserve a star because of the arrangement about the food and beverage. Â Really stupid. Â Is it Steve's Place, or Visalia Brewing Company? Â Why can't I pay the beer babe for my wing order? Â WTF??
Other than that, it's my first stop when I visit Visalia!!!
I've been to the VBC twice and both times it was to see my boyfriend"s band. Â I live in LBC so finding a little bar where good beer is cheap and the patrons are chill made me feel right at home. Â I hear the food is pretty good but I've never tried it. Â It's a narrow bar and there is usually a line for the bathroom. Â I hear you have to wait forever for a drink but I had no problem getting Newcastle after Newcastle.
All in all, I liked it. Â Not sure what it's like when there isn't live music but based on what I heard on the jukebox before the band started (Sublime & Slayer) I don't think I'd be in there too often.
Final verdict, great little place to go see a rockin band, wide selection of brews and for a great price! Â
Catch me in there next time Electric Grease is playing  ;-)
Hippie stoners smokin pot outside with homeless skateboarders is the first thing that comes to mind. Too much Sublime on the jukebox is the second. Half the bar is the size of a hallway, constantly stepping on people or being stepped on by people. Whatever you do, don't eat the food. A few nights a week this is a real hot spot. Whatever you do, don't mention the cockroaches to the staff. Friends of mine invite me out with them to this place on a regular basis, fortunately I'm permanently banned (long story) Whatever you do, don't use the restroom on the right. I will admit to some friendly service most of the time. Whatever you do, don't kareoke Elton John more than once. no sleeveless shirts.
Review Source:WOW OK sooo... walking down main st back home and it looks like a ghost town... we were trying to avoid cover costs so we headed here... there were maybe like 10 people inside... (not like it was when i was in high school lol) it was already 11:30pm and the band was packing up.. so i said "hey lets see what else is open" as we were leaving i stopped in my tracks and i saw one of the band members, i kept starring and had to go back inside.... turns out it was a friend of mine from when i was in high school !!! i was so excited, so we decided to stay, have a few beers and hang out...
it was Saturday Night... Long Necks were only 2.50 .... not to bad...
we ended up having a few interesting conversations and i ended up being my best friends fiance' because guys kept hitting on her..(she already has a real fiance..larry ) and that always leads to "if you love her, why don't you kiss her then?!" Really!! i think men just wanna see girls kiss.. lol
Its a small and narrow bar, but its very cozy in a good way.. the bartender chick was nice but scarce... the bathrooms are tiny!!!! but I'm only there to do my business... not take up camp so it works for me...
The bouncers are nice until you make them mad.. dang they have a switch like no other!! thank goodness i was on their good side.. :)
the unfortunate part is that towards closing people get a little annoying and hostile.... the bar around the corner had all kinds of fights break out inside and out side in the alley...
we were sitting out front trying to sober up before going home and some chick walked by and i said "oh, i know that girl" she flipped out saying i didn't know her , and that she was from Monterrey!! lol like that's supposed to scare me or something! haha that's like saying.. "Oh I'm from Scottsdale" hahahahahaha
so by the time she was in my face i just said, "OK fine, i don't know you" and she just stared at me.. they HIT me in the side of my face! ran back to her car and tried to find her keys.... i couldn't move... i was shocked.. I'm such a patient person... i don't get angry very fast at all.. so i called the cops and started reading off her plate info.. but damn CA plates have the numbers to close together... and with alcohol in you.. it doesn't help..
all in all.. the bar isn't bad but the company that is in and around the bar are not great.. at all... i would bring a taser next time...
Somewhat confusing; despite the name this place does not seem to brew their own beer. They do have, however, a large selection of beers on draft, somewhere around 24 are available at any time. Specials change daily; Monday is margaritas and Tuesday is $2 drafts. Which is notable in that beers are never much more than $5 anyway; coming from DC I was very surprised to hear the bartender referring to $5 beer as an expensive option. So hooray for good, inexpensive beer.
They have a weird relationship with Steve's Place. I think Steve's Place is the kitchen contained within VBC. Or VBC is the bar within Steve's Place. In any case, they serve some pretty good food. Try their blackberry hot sauce.
REFRESHING
My girlfriend and I stopped in here on our way back from a weekend in Sequoia National Park. Â It was a 90+ degree day and we were starvin' like Marvin.
Visalia BrewCo not only has a great selection of beer, but sells cheaper than what I'm accustom to (being from LA and all). Â The blue cheese burger was delicious as well, although some regulars recommended trying the Thai Peanut sauce burger our next time there.
The only bad thing is that this place is way up in Visalia. Â The next time life finds me going through Visalia, I'll be sure to stop in again!
VBC is one of the best places in Visalia!! They have a good amount of beers on tap and usually draw a pretty cool crowd. Tuesdays ($2 drafts) can get a little busy--tip well and you will get served in a timely manner. If I happen to get back to Visalia, I have to say, I will definitely be making a stop here!! ;-) good times..
Review Source:$2 Tuesday's - ridiculously crowded and can't move anywhere without rubbing up on people's crotches...which i dont mind but other people might! :) anywho the bartenders are kinda asleep there the majority of the time so you have to really yell at them to get their attention!
Overall, cool place to chill
