Absolutely fantastic! My boyfriend and I attended the paint and palate class and loved the energy of the space, the people, the staff, the food...everything is very pleasant and comfortable.
With the down the block location from main street in Old Town Temecula - which can be a lil overtouristy - this is a great place to tuck in and kick back...great music too!
What a gem! Â I ventured up to Temecula during the day with the BF for a painting class hosted at Viva Vino. Â Before the class began, we ordered some Sangria and some appetizers. Â Oh my goodness that Sangria! Â I'm no wino, but that is some of the best damn sangria I've ever had. The owner mentioned it was a family recipe and i believe it. I've never had anything like it. So refreshing!
For our tapas, we ordered the Chorizo Envuelto Con Tocino (bacon wrapped choirzo) as well as the Queso De Cabra Frito (Fried Goat Cheese). Delicious! Â It's tapas and the servings are small, so make sure you order multiple plates and make sure they're all different! Â Everything they brought out looked so yummy! Â I only wished I had more time, to try more! The owner also mentioned they had salsa classes during one night of the week. Â
I loved the atmosphere, service, food, and obviously the sangria. Â If it wasn't so far from home, i'd visit Viva Vino often. Â It will be a "must stop" place whenever I make the trek.
Food was great, but my family and I drank a ton of sangria and did not even feel a buzz. Â We honestly thought that they were giving us grape juice and charging for alcohol. Â That is my only real problem. Â When I go out I can handle the loud music, but I wanted to get a little drunk. Â Other than them being skimpy on the alcohol I would have given this place a 4 or 5 star rating.
Review Source:I was very impressed with the consistency of this place. I have been there at least three times for drinks, tapas and dancing.... Well not so much the dancing because I suck at it but definitely the drinks and tapas lol.... This place is so much fun... The staff is super nice and really efficient.... The food is absolutely amazing... I tried several different selections and all of them were awesome!! The live music they play was very cool and different than what I am used to hearing... So all in all this is a great place to take your date or just come by for a Sangria!!! See you there!!!
Review Source:Very nice spot. Interesting dishes. We had Bleu Cheese stuffed dates wrapped in bacon-excellent, Bruchetta-excellent, Black mussels in wine broth-average, needed some pizzaz, cheese plate-pretty good and crab stuffed mushrooms, too much bread not enough crab in the stuffing, but the sauce was excellent. We were there before the band started, so it was a quiet dinner. We will be going back.
Review Source:After incredibly bad service across the street my friend and I were relieved to walk into such a friendly atmosphere! The music was great, with a live band, all latin, perfect for dancing salsa too. And you should have seen those people dance Everyone from the employees to the guest were incredibly friendly and having a great time. The wine was good, although I agree with the reviews they need to expand their selection, but I still enjoyed a wonderful wine. Apparantly they have Salsa nights on Thursday. Looks like I found a new hobby. Highly recommend, had a wonderful, stress-free time.
Review Source:LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SPOT!! been here a couple of times now. IN LOVE with their sangrias, red and white. love the band, the dancing, the great energy and vibe of this place. i have tried the food as well, roasted veggie plate (can't remember the name) was very yummy. would pick this place over a dark night club any day!! bar tenders are great as well, very friendly!! can't wait to baila otra vez!!
Review Source:Beg to differ with some of the positive reviews here. This is just another touristy small bar in a touristy neighborhood. Â We were here this past Sunday night (supposedly their "good" night). Could not have been any more disappointed. Â Service was not fabulous, as bartender had a really bad attitude when I complained about the food. We had 2 cocktails (A Beer and one watery sangria - ack ack ack AND IN WINE COUNTRY), Â and an order of Paella (their signature dish ??? !!! ????) and spent $70.00. RIDICULOUS. Â This was the worst Paella I have ever had. It literally reminded me of Rice-A-Roni and leftovers. It was terrible! Â The shrimp was overcooked and hard as a rock, the sausage was like Hill-shire farms, there were no discernible or authentic veggies or flavors as the recipe calls for, and the first thing I said was "this is not real saffron". (Bartender argued with me). Lastly, it was served on a white (Hello Walmart dishes) platter as opposed to the gorgeous Paella Pans available everywhere it SHOULD be served in, enhancing the flavors and service of the dish. The flavors weren't even close to authentic Paella as ingredients seemed substituted. As I said, Rice A Roni. WE quickly ate our meal (we were starving after wine tasting all day and bartender clearly wasn't going to offer us something more to our liking) Â and left. There is much better in the area. This just isn't the place. Â If you do go, DON'T GET THE PAELLA.
Review Source:Pretty good. Â The place was empty when we got there around 6:30. We had the sangria, they make it there, definitely worth trying. Â We got a tapas sampler plate. Â My favorite was definitely the stuffed date. Â Overall though, the plate wasn't anything memorable, and I felt it was overpriced.
Review Source:Awesome time! Â Great server (nice guy wearing a hat - very personable. Â He was very busy, working all the tables, but he had no problem serving our food on time and keeping an eye on our wine. Â The live entertainment was great.
Try the:
Tuna tare tare
Black mussels (the broth is so good too)
Dates and blue cheese (salty, sweet, soft, crunchy)
Chicken wings (sweet and tangy)
Grilled shrimp
my wife and i really enjoyed this place. the food was exceptional. we ordered the veggie platter for 2, empanadas and the jambon with bread. all were high quality. our neighbors ordered the paella and it looked amazing as well.
the prices were reasonable. for this quality of food, its actually a bargain in my opinion. the atmosphere was cozy but not too crowded.
i am glad Temecula is getting better restaurants. this place is surely one to try if you are into quality food.
4 Stars! Wonderful selection of food and the wine is both local and international.
I was here with Mini-Me on Sunday for about an hour or so (3-4:30p), for a friends fundraiser, wished we could have stayed longer but no such luck. Sal was our bartender, server, and all around awesome host so  YEAHH! to Sal!
So for tapas:
We (shared and I use this term loosely) hadddd blue cheese dates wrapped in bacon- DELISH 4 to a plate- Mini-Me loved it had 3 and sadly I forced her to share the last 1 with me- such attitude I tell ya! Â
she wanted to order more. Suffer!
Ceviche- very tasty with bits of mango and served with tortilla chips with seasoning on the side- my suggestion omit the parsley and use a little cilantro
( a little goes a long way) or use Italian parsley- the parsley in this really was to "green tasting" and over powered the true yum of the ceviche itself. Served in a mini-martini glass. Mini-Me liked this dish very much but she felt it needed something more---- like more shrimp or a large shrimp or two for garnish- I have to say she has an eye for presentation I had to agree. Visually it would have looked awesome.
Bacon wrapped chorizo- so Mini-Me inhaled these I mean INHALED- she loved it! even tossed on a bit more Tabasco but all in all 4 to a plate I got 1/2 a bite of one ... measly bite. Evidently she missed the "When mom pays share 101."
Of course I had a glass of Ronzoni Red-- but then I am a wine club member and do not have this bottle in my rack at home.
Bill was $34.86 not bad I thought for sure we will be back.
Here is my negative and I only have 1.
They have live music but I think artists before they begin to play and do sound check etc...should take into account the setting and acoustics of a room. This little gem of a restaurant wine bar  is tiny about 20 tables and a big bar that wraps the room but this is not an out door seating or large arena--and its pretty much all concrete walls and windows so music if not adjusted is very very loud. The music was so loud we couldn't  talk and literally we were shouting, I felt bad but I wanted to talk about the restaurant and visit with my friends.
U don't need to blast the tunes for people to hear and to enjoy your talents.
I saw a few groups walk in and out- not sure why but they missed out on a great spot for tapas.
But the thing is I loved the groups talents, the music variety the vocals were exceptional, the drums and guitar were really very well done! Â who was this group by the way?
SO suffice to say - I wouldn't say this is a place for little kids or babies- they would get bored since its not a typical restaurant with booths or anything.. but a Sunday afternoon is a lazy afternoon so maybe check it out... We will be back without a doubt.
Wowza! So happy to have found this spot in Old Town Temecula. If you're not into the local hotspots for the 20 somethings you've found your secret getaway for exceptional Latin live music minus the cops waiting outside for the kids to be hauled off to the drunk tank.
Love! Love! Love, Viva Vino. It's an isty bitsy wine bar but the live music is just Fantastic-Oh! AND, they have a nice selection of international wines as well as yummy SpanishTapas.
So yeah I'm giving them a 5 star review but please don't come here because I want to get a seat : D
Boo! Â As much as I've wanted this spanish tapas bar to deliver good food, wine, entertainment and service, they have disappointed in all categories except the wine. Â
I've been here twice. Â Once on a Thursday. Â My wife and I seemed to be the only 2 non-friend or family members there. Â The live music was alright. Â The service at the bar was attentive but the food was horrible. Â Obviously not fresh by any means and bland. Â We ordered the vegetarian tapas plate for 2 since I thought it would satisfy my vegan diet... wrong. Cheese, egg, and oil everywhere. Â Oh well. Â At least they had decent olives and seasoned nuts. Â I thought I'd order something else off the tapas menu to fill me so I got the mushrooms. Â I couldn't even eat them because they so overpowering garlicy. Â Wow! Â Here's a suggestion... Bread. Â Anyone could fill up on some fresh bread, but of course "fresh" isn't a word they seem to know. Â The guy serving us at the bar could tell I was disappointed so he poured me another glass of wine on the house. Â That was nice and it got me to return.
2 weeks later, I returned with another couple this time. Â It was Friday night and, instead of the 3 person attendence the first visit, there were about 12 this night. Â We sat off to the side of the dance floor. Â The music was decent again and the wine "Masa Ybarra", was always a good pour. Â We ordered the same Veg. tapas plate for 2 to see if it would be fresh this time. Â Our friends got another type of tapas for 2 plate. Â The first food arrived at our table (our firends food) 45 minutes after ordering!!! Â Then, it took another 20 minutes for us to get our meesly Veg plate! Â But, it wasn't the Veg plate. Â It was what our friends really ordered. Â 10 minutes later (the time it really takes to put together a Veg tapas plate) our food comes out. Â Fresh? No way. Â I think they repackaged our leftovers from 2 weeks ago. Â Yuck. Â Now, the olives weren't even good anymore. Â Some basic pimento stuffed green olives from costco. Â Who do these people think they are fooling? Â 2 bottles of wine, a liter of white sangria, and 2 tapas plates came out to $146. Â No appologies for BLOWING IT, at all.
This place has gone beyond "not earning back my business." Â They virtually turned me around and booted me out the door with a big F, U! Â I, and everyone I can tell, will never be going there ever again. Â Please go out of business and be taken over by a real tapas bar with good, quality, fresh, authentic food. Â Keep the wine and get the band more practice.
Boo again!
After one visit I can already see this as one of our most frequented hangouts. Â We tried several items from their tapas menu and liked almost all of them... (The citrusy mushrooms were a bit too much). Â And while our waitress brought us spicy chicken legs after I ordered the chicken skewers, she more than made up for it by her engaging personality.
Our party of three was greeted warmly by the proprietor. Â We'd made a reservation for Saturday evening, not realizing that the place doesn't fill up until after 8 PM. Â The live music started at 8:30 and while it wasn't rock solid talent, the relaxed style of the musicians fit the venue. Â
Among the highlights was the sangria. Â Both the white and the red are delicious! Â I almost gave this place one star to keep people from filling it up. Â We will most certainly be back often.
Good ambience. Good music and decent wines. Food is eh. Hubby and I ordered bacon wrapped chorizo (so-so), the Pan con Tomate with manchego cheese and Serrano ham (the tomato was mushy, the cheese was so thinly sliced it was transparent and the bread super dry), and the paella for 2 -uh for $33 clean the mussels and use real saffron and less grease please. Go have dinner elsewhere, then fall in here for wine and music.
Review Source:What a wonderful addition to Old Town Temecula and the area as a whole. The Sangria was ABSOLUTELY DIVINE. Everytime I took a sip I was transported back to Argentina where I originally was introduced this heavenly drink. The music was absolutely astounding. I kept looking around and saying "I can't believe we are in Temecula. It feels like we are at a great bar in the Gaslamp in San Diego." We were told every night is different and I can't wait to go back. Its a very intimate location with great ambiance and enough room to dance if you want.
We had wonderful services from a very accomdating and informative staff. I went early and they were willing to reserve a table for us so we could go around Old Town Temecula before the music started at 8 since it fills up by 7:30 and ends up being quite packed. We ordered the red velvet cake and it was a little dry, but the frosting made up for it. We didn't try any of the Tapas, but they all smelled amazing.
This place is still finding it's way. Â I hope they can get their act together. Â We were disappointed that there were no Spanish wines on the menu - only mediocre local Spanish-style wines. Â The owner told us he knew this was an issue and has plans to add a number of Spanish wines to the menu early in 2012. Â
Our server was also an issue since she was new and had nearly zero knowledge of wines and spanish food. Â She was not able to describe the differences in the wines; but, fortunately, we were able to taste the wine before ordering a bottle.
Foodwise, we enjoyed what we ordered: the olives & spicey almonds dish, pan con tomate with jamon & manchego, and the Spanish tortilla. Â The tortilla was the weakest of the 3 in my opinion, but others in my party thought it was good.
There was recorded music playing a little too loudly in the background when we were there, but live music was planned for later in the evening. Â Since I am more interested in the food and drink, live entertainment and dancing is not a plus for me.
I would try again once they have Spanish wines on the menu and the serving staff is more knowledgeable.
What a nice surprise to discover this place on our recent visit. My husband and I are always suckers for tapas spots. The atmosphere is very inviting and intimate. For food, we ordered the bacon-wrapped chorizo (okay) and chimichurri meatballs (meh). The chimichurri was too tart for my tastes. Someone at the table ordered something with potatoes which was decent. They were out of mussels which was a little disappointing. I also tried the cheese plate and the cheese seemed very basic. Other than that, the service and wine was good. I was very pleased to see their wine selection from the local wineries. Way to support your local community.
They also had a band playing that was fantastic. Some of us danced during the sets and also when the band took breaks and merengue and salsa was playing on the stereo. We closed the place down, we had such a great time. While I think the food needs a little more imagination, the atmosphere more than makes up for what is lacking. Viva Vino was a blast.
We ended up coming here for dinner and stayed until late. Super cool little tapas spot right off of a side street in Old Town. We ordered the bruschetta, bacon wrapped chorizo  and a few bottles of wine. The food was good, wine even better. They also had a live band that was awesome! If you want a nice chill spot to hang and get some small plates with good wine and great music, this is the spot! Way to go Vivo Vino!
Review Source:What an amazing find this was! The beautiful woman who was promoting the restaurant sent us up to this tucked away little spot where my boyfriend and I sipped on delightfully delicious sangria and we naushed on thier sampler platter. The flavors were enticing and the price for all we had, very reasonable. There were a bit too many potatoes, but the sauce on top was tantilizing! This is our new date night place. Cant wait to go back!
Review Source:Called on Friday afternoon to check on opening time -- message stated "opens at  3:00 pm".
Went to restaurant and was told - no, we open at 5 pm (after we made special arrangements to get there early).
No apology for wrong times on the message machine. Just "go away".
Tried to go once before but the web site does not work on an iPhone nor iPad to get info on times or see the menu. Web page shows blank.
After the rude "5 pm" -- that was strike 3 and we are never going back.
Thanks for nothing -- we were willing to spend $80 for wine and tapas and fun  last night.
I took sveral of my emplyees to viva vino last night and we had a blast. We had 2 bottles of wine, a Melbec and then a cab and both were quite good. We also had 2 glasses of Sangria that were flavorful, easy to drink and not too full of fruit. We didn't order any food, but it did smell good and the plates that I saw coming out all looked appetizing.
The best part was the music, a live Latin band, the dancing and the general comraderie of the place. Everyone was clearly having a good time. My understanding is there is new management and they are determined to make this a great place to go all the way around, food,drinks and entertainment.
~~~~*Viva Vino*~~~~
*On a small piece of Temecula's Old Town, there is a Spanish getaway with imported, and domestic wines from Spain to Temeculas finest. They offer Reds, and Whites to pair with some of Viva Vino's fine Tapas, and spanish dishes. I've been to Viva Vino on several occations, for Dancing with friends, wine, and Tapas with my Husband, "I absolutly love the Sangria" the fruit in the glass is always crispy, and fresh. Â
     I  took My Momma on a Sunday, and she had a Wonderfull time. The  *Manager* and *staff* were warm, and inviting, a family feel environment.
  Its  nice to have a place where Sunday Brunch is a calm,relaxing, Delicious experience!!!....The  Music is always a plus, it sets the mood, and atmosphere you can feel it as soon as you walk through the door.... And the convenience of being in Old Town makes for an extraordinary Heart of Temecula experience. I like it!!! "5" stars for me. *****
Peace
hope you get ta enjoy this place too!!!!
*Rox. ;)
Ps.
They also have live music,
Dance lessons,
Great local DJ.
Wed.80's night.
Beer for the non wine aficionados!!
I have to agree with @Cal F. Â on every point. My sister and I ate here about recently The atmosphere is nice. It's good to have (FINALLY) a Spanish flair in Old Town that is not actually Mexicamerican like The Bank.
HOWEVER...these are the things I did not like:
1. The Sangria is waaaaaaaay overpriced for what it is. It is mostly juice with some fruit mixed in. Very little wine involved. Â I think a carafe is about $25, and that is a deal killer in my book. Sangra is NOT expensive to make. Cheap wines are usually used, so why so expensive VV? Â This alone will make me not want to go back. At least make the glass bigger. I mean, really!
2. Food is OK, but they have a way to go. We ordered a couple of tapas - did not rock my world, but was just adequate. A couple next to us ordered a sampler platter that was supposed to include all tapas on the menu. Not only did it NOT include what it said it would, but it looked like it was 90% potatoes!
Everything else on the plate looked pretty underwhelming. And I think the plate was almost $30. My sister works in the restaurant biz, and she said the platter is probably leftovers from other days that are heaped onto a plate so I dont recommend that item. I overheard the couple tell the server that they were surprised the plate was so full of potatoes. I Â think they were bummed.
3. Service is very slow. Don't go if you are hungry. Our order took a lonnnnnggggg time.
My sis felt it would be so much nicer if they offered a little "something" while diners are waiting. Even if it's a slice of manchego cheese, an olive and two almonds. I agree. I Â think little things like that make a HUGE diff. Esp for a place like this that is new and trying to get attention. It would have made the diff for me between 2 and 3 stars in my review.
So there you have it. I hope to go back for salsa dancing - arrrriba! - but they need to make some changes to make it in this tough economy.
Excellent quality wines, many are new world wines. Â Intimate and romantic atmosphere. Very friendly service that makes you feel at home. In fact, the nicest service in Temecula I have experienced.
Prices are very reasonable, however food quality is poor. Â Flavors are ok, but quality is not up to standards.
Friday and Saturday nights they have decent Latin music and dancing. Certainly the only place in the city you will find reasonably good live Latin music.
This is a great Spanish Wine Bar that offers great wine and some tasty food. But, one of the best aspects is the Salsa Dancing! There are lessons on Thursday nights for beginners and intermediates, and then Salsa, Bachata, and Merengue dancing afterwards. You don't need a partner, and the people who go are extremely friendly!
