I was not impressed by this place. The waitress was NOT the brightest crayon in the box.... Â They make you 'open a tab' and take your credit card when you even just order food. I get it, they don't want people walking on their tickets... (maybe?) but thats just annoying. Â Please don't bring me my check before you've even brought me my beer, and then expect me to have signed it and tipped you before my food even gets there. Â It took us longer to get beers for 4 of us than it did for our food to come out, also annoying. Â Oh and the waitress brought one us the wrong beer. Â It wasn't even close!! Some apple cider drink that smelled like apple juice vs. a dark beer? really?......
In all fairness, the food wasn't half bad, and like I said, it did come out pretty fast. Â Its right next to some vball courts which is cool. This place just needs some SERIOUS work on its customer service.
Big inside with decent amount of tables. Decent number of parking spots in the parking lot.
The bread on the burgers, or at least The Wakefield Burger, was absolutely one of the best breads on a burger I've ever eaten. Top 3 for sure. The fries were great too! Just the right amount of crispiness to them.
The drink selection is wide: lots of beers (tap, bottle, or can) and mixed drinks. I cannot stand Long Island Iced Teas, but theirs was actually really good but extremely strong! (I'm a light weight with mixed drinks.)
You can reserve one of the sand volleyball courts to ensure you and your crowd are able to play; I'm not sure of the rates, but you can check out Wakefield Crowbar for more details!
This place is legit. Oh, and you get to watch drunk people try to play volleyball, which is hilarious.
The bartender was friendly and let me taste test their St. Arnold Root Beer, which was good-- but I ended up ordering an Angry Orchard cider instead. She then went on to say " I wonder what both of those combined would taste like.." I replied with, " Well let me give it a shot!." It was like a cola- creamsicle. Surprised at how good it actually tasted I looked and her and said, " What should we call it?" She replied, well whats your name? We'll name it after you!"
And that my friends is the story of how the "Rachel" came to be.
Crow Bar is an awesome new bar north of 610 with 2 sand volleyball courts on the side of their outdoor deck/patio. Keep in mind that this is a bar with courts, not courts with a bar (Third Coast Volleyball). I've played at a few sand courts around Houston, and I will say that the courts at Crow Bar are maintained very well, comparable to the ever popular sand courts at Third Coast. I came this past Wednesday during the holiday week and had no trouble getting time on the court. When we went, there were already balls out on the court for the general public to use. As far as I know, the courts are kept open as long as the bar is open. Crow Bar is animal friendly as well and lots of people will bring their dogs to sit on the deck while they play. Don't worry about getting sand in you car as there is a hose to the side of the courts where you can rinse off. I will say one thing that prevents me from giving Crow Bar the full 5 stars is the lack of adequate parking. I only noticed it in the recent weeks of league play, particularly during playoffs, that both small lots in front of the bar and in front of the courts were packed. Most people had to resort to street parking a block or two aways.
There's a great selection of beer here too, from your normal domestics and imports, to sour ales like the Lindemans Framboise. I would say that they have typical bar food available, but I can only speak to the fried pickles and french fries, which were delicious and made to order. If you live up north, in the heights and I-10 area, and don't want to make the trek down south to Third Coast, Crow Bar serves as a great alternative.
So apparently Crow Bar opened a little under a week ago. It's pretty awesome inside. They have a HUGE selection of beer; including crafts, imports and domestics. Not to mention....it's competitively priced unlike some of the other Wakefield bars. Parking is kind of a drag to be honest, but if you like the Wakefield scene...that's not something that is new to you. There are 2 adjacent parking lots...one that is directly in front of the bar and one that is directly in front of...you didn't guess it...their 2 outdoor sand volleyball courts. This is probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen at a bar. The outdoor patio wraps around the volleyball courts and the courts are lit up so long as the bar is open.
I didn't get to try the food...but the menu looks pretty good. Not to mention, they do have designer-type cupcakes for sale at the bar for when you get a little tipsy and want something sweet to chow down on. There is a dart board inside. When I was here this past Saturday evening, it was the younger heights-type crowd. Mid-20's to early 30's professionals just looking for a place to kick back with a cold one. This is my new bar on Wakefield....far outshines the others in my opinion.
