I went to West Park Tavern this past week with some friends. Â I ordered the bison burger. Â It was burned to a crisp. Â In fact, the burger tasted like burnt salt. Â My friend's burger tasted like straight salt. Â I will give them credit since the waitress did not charge us for both of our meals. Â The drinks were good and the waitresses were great. Â This is my 4th or 5th time eating dinner at West Park Tavern. Â I don't think I've ever eaten anything here that tasted good. Â The chicken is usually overcooked and the salads are wilted. Â I wish they could cook better food.
Review Source:Just finished my meal at West Park Tavern with my family. This is our second time visiting the restaurant and it was a far cry from our first. First, my drink (a ginger ale) came to the table clear. I knew right away that the syrup needed to be changed, and I took a sip.. Pure seltzer. Had them change it out, no biggie, these things certainly happen. We order the queso. Chips were stale. We ate them, didn't complain.. because again, these things happen. While I was waiting for my refreshed ginger ale, someone drops a can of beer off at my table.. Nobody ordered a beer. Not sure why they thought we would need a beer..
Finally the food comes out. What else to order on 50 cent wing night but wings! I got the sweet chili.. It tasted rather familiar. I think it may be the same sweet chili sauce that McDonald's released for their chicken nuggets a few months back. It's quite good on nuggets, wouldn't expect it at a higher priced establishment like the West Park Tavern.
Even still, all that would not have prompted me to write this Yelp review. The entertainment for the evening, a guy and a guitar. It was loud, and it was loud. Did I say it was loud? I wouldn't have minded it being so loud, except that this dude was singing like he was auditioning for American Idol! Every note seemed to be over sung. He didn't sing a single song in a familiar fashion. It was like he was trying to reinvent the vocals of the song. He had a good voice, his guitar playing was average, and his song selection was quite good. He played a mix of more modern rock with some Hootie thrown in there (for whatever reason). I wrote on the comment card, and I feel strongly about this, if he would have sung the songs as people know it, he would have had that bar singing along! Maybe he would have even gotten some requests!
So I rate a 3. The waitresses were great, recovered well from the early mishaps. The food was average. The entertainment made it hard to have a conversation with my family.
West Park Tavern has become a weekly visit for us. Â We discovered it a few weeks ago and have been going back ever sense. Â Maybe it is because my 4 year old son is in love with one of the waitresses there (we waited 30 minutes just to sit at her table on a Friday night). Â The Meatloaf sliders we had as a special one time were incredible, and now we are pushing to make them a regular on the menu. Â Great food, great drinks (Loved the Blue Devil Lemonade, sorry my UNC friends), and the staff is wonderful (Shout out to Rose especially from Jack!!)
