I went to West Park Tavern this past week with some friends.  I ordered the bison burger.  It was burned to a crisp.  In fact, the burger tasted like burnt salt.  My friend's burger tasted like straight salt.  I will give them credit since the waitress did not charge us for both of our meals.  The drinks were good and the waitresses were great.  This is my 4th or 5th time eating dinner at West Park Tavern.  I don't think I've ever eaten anything here that tasted good.  The chicken is usually overcooked and the salads are wilted.  I wish they could cook better food.

Just finished my meal at West Park Tavern with my family. This is our second time visiting the restaurant and it was a far cry from our first. First, my drink (a ginger ale) came to the table clear. I knew right away that the syrup needed to be changed, and I took a sip.. Pure seltzer. Had them change it out, no biggie, these things certainly happen. We order the queso. Chips were stale. We ate them, didn't complain.. because again, these things happen. While I was waiting for my refreshed ginger ale, someone drops a can of beer off at my table.. Nobody ordered a beer. Not sure why they thought we would need a beer..

Finally the food comes out. What else to order on 50 cent wing night but wings! I got the sweet chili.. It tasted rather familiar. I think it may be the same sweet chili sauce that McDonald's released for their chicken nuggets a few months back. It's quite good on nuggets, wouldn't expect it at a higher priced establishment like the West Park Tavern.

Even still, all that would not have prompted me to write this Yelp review. The entertainment for the evening, a guy and a guitar. It was loud, and it was loud. Did I say it was loud? I wouldn't have minded it being so loud, except that this dude was singing like he was auditioning for American Idol! Every note seemed to be over sung. He didn't sing a single song in a familiar fashion. It was like he was trying to reinvent the vocals of the song. He had a good voice, his guitar playing was average, and his song selection was quite good. He played a mix of more modern rock with some Hootie thrown in there (for whatever reason). I wrote on the comment card, and I feel strongly about this, if he would have sung the songs as people know it, he would have had that bar singing along! Maybe he would have even gotten some requests!

So I rate a 3. The waitresses were great, recovered well from the early mishaps. The food was average. The entertainment made it hard to have a conversation with my family.

West Park Tavern has become a weekly visit for us.  We discovered it a few weeks ago and have been going back ever sense.  Maybe it is because my 4 year old son is in love with one of the waitresses there (we waited 30 minutes just to sit at her table on a Friday night).  The Meatloaf sliders we had as a special one time were incredible, and now we are pushing to make them a regular on the menu.  Great food, great drinks (Loved the Blue Devil Lemonade, sorry my UNC friends), and the staff is wonderful (Shout out to Rose especially from Jack!!)

So today I collected my winnings from the NCAA tournament.   My husband was travelling on business so took my son out.  I had the Bib lettuce salad with the added grilled chicken.  He had the Dirty Gringo Burger!!   They were both awesome.  Service was great and owner stopped by a few times.  Also my son had the citrus cheesecake and he thought it was really good, I stole a bite and agreed.  Nice to have a laid back place with good food in walking distance of our home!!

Don't expect standard tavern fare. The food is far better than that.

We had a great time with fantastic food and the service was great. Can't wait 'till next time.

Only visited once for a quick drink/bite to eat after an event in Morrisville, and it was ok, a solid 3 stars.  Bartender was friendly & efficient and food was decent.  My margarita (one of the Monday night specials) was too sweet to finish.  I enjoyed my french dip but & hubby enjoyed his philly cheesesteak (not fantastic, but not bad).  Neither of us would be in a big rush to go back, but given it's convenient location at High House Rd & Hwy 55 in Cary, I'm sure we'll visit again & maybe order something different.

In a nutshell: Glorious new bar atmosphere--no old, stale posters or drab carpet here. Good food, a nice variety of menu choices, great beer selection, and friendly staff! Will definitely be returning!

Ate dinner here with my hubby on a Tuesday night, and the place was packed, but there was room at the bar, where you can also order food. Seeing that during our first trip gave the place credibility, as in: 'it must be good if there are so many people here on a Tuesday!'

For an appetizer, we ordered the fried pickle chips. It was refreshing to see that they were not drowning in grease, however, we both felt that there was a bit too much cornmeal in the breading, which left little crunchy pieces in our mouths. The dipping sauce, a ranch-based dressing, was delicious.

For our entrees, I had the southern fried burger, cooked medium: It has pimento cheese, bacon and fried green tomatoes on it. The burger was cooked beautifully, but I gotta say it--the pimento cheese was too salty, and I expected a bit more tartness from the fried green tomatoes. It came with fries that were just 'alright'. My hubby had the pulled pork sandwich and fries. I didn't get a chance to try a bite, but he said it was good!

We had a few beers while we were there, and spent some time admiring our surroundings. The lighting was great. The curved bar with wood-paneling behind the liquor shelves was a nice touch. There were plenty of low and high tables that were all full of guests. There were several flat-screen TVs surrounding us. There was a separate lounge section with comfy-looking leather couches and chairs. I didn't get a chance to check out the bathroom.

We can't wait to go back and try another selection from their menu. They seemed to have some Southern, Mexican, Italian, and American influences with their sandwiches, salads, wings, burgers, salmon and wahoo dishes.

First time eating here tonight. Was very impressed at the quality of the food. Each item we got, even the kids meals, had a unique twist on the original. Server was brand new and actually did very well. The manager followed up right behind him to make sure everything was good, which was nice. Good to see a new, local business that appears to be pretty well run and put out a really good product. Only bad thing was they were out of the signature hot dogs, but I'm sure I'll be back to grab one - footlong wrapped in bacon and deep fried. Get out and support your local small business here.

Very clean and bright place with good service. Little to clean and bright to be a tavern, I like a bar to be a little rough around the edges. Only was there long enough to have a beer, so really can't review much more then atmosphere, and bar service.

When our meals arrived--WOW!  It was every bit as huge as the review we read had raved.  My husband ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with old timer fixings and a side salad.  I'd ordered the veggie bean burger with everything from pepper jack cheese and tiny fried onions on top--YUM!  Along with a side of broccoli.  Everything was delicious!  Although a bit pricey for the small side serving of broccoli.  We will most likely go back though, because it's difficult to find a truly homemade veggie burger!  Service was excellent too.

I went here with a friend of mine for dinner.    While the place is really clean and bright, it still doesn't work for me.   It's probably a great place to catch a game, because they've got lots of flat panel TVs.    But I found the food and service leaving a lot to be desired.

The location is out of the way (how many people can even see the place as they drive up and down Hwy. 55 each day?), and because of that, they really need to build customer loyalty.     There are a lot of ways to do that, but the staff and manager chose not to the night we dined there.    The prices are on the high-end of the scale for the type of operation, but the quality of the food did not necessarily shine through.

The food and drink selection and quality are both very good. The thing holding them back is any real effort to creat customer loyalty. The service is sometimes great but sometimes terrible, and not once has a server or manager asked for my name. They will have to get a bit more friendly to survive in that tucked-in location.

I have been to West Park Tavern on several occasions and have always had a great experiences and food.

The atmosphere is casual and good for kids at dinner.  In the evenings, there is always a group hanging out at the bar, and there are always sports going on their MANY screens.  The burgers are incredible, mac n cheese is awesome, and the nachos are huge.  I find the prices to be average for the area.

Their beer list is limited, but is a good mix of the "norm" with a few good local micro brews represented.  They keep Red Oak on tap, and not many do.

The staff is great.  I have always had good service and happy servers.  As a matter of fact, we went on New Year's Eve (they were packed) and my glass was never empty.

I recommend West Park Tavern and have even introduced it to friends.

My husband and I were first time visitors today. We were extremely impressed with our server, Sam. The food was awesome and good beer to choose from. We will be going back often. Not your typical tavern food, much better.

Great looking place, staff was fantastic and was very tentative to us all night long. The only thing that I could stay is that they are a little heavy with the prices. While the food was excellent, it was a little over prices. Had two app, four sandwiches and four beers, bill was just short of $100.00 without the tip? Will be a great place to hang out if they can lower the prices to match the pub crowd they are trying to get.

A typical experience for a restraunt of this type..  Food good, price average and a reasonable selection of beer.  Lots of TVs perhaps as many as 15..  Overall good experience

I am so thrilled to have another great restaurant option in the area.  Excellent wine by the glass selection (price point and variety).  Full bar (they can make anything).  This is more of a gastropub than a tavern as far as food quality.  I had their crab cake special, which was exceptional.  ALL crab!  Perfectly dressed with arugala and spiced nuts.  I can't wait to go back and try blackened Wahoo tacos or baked mac-n-cheese with andouille sausage.  AND they have live music on the weekends and TVs a plenty for game-day!!  Oh, and the service was perfect (thanks to Sam).

My visit to West Park recently leaves me coming with "Meh, it was ok." Not overwhelmed or underwhelmed, but I think I could go there for drinks. Not sure I would make it a choice for eats however.

The atmosphere itself appears nice, clean, inviting. There are separate areas with booths, tables, and even a sofa area with flat screens called "Twilight Lounge" by the small sign over it. The bar area itself is good sized, and pretty nice as far as tavern fare goes. The colored light for the bottles doesn't necessarily fit with the wood finish around most of the area, so it's a bit eclectic. It's a good spread for having a beer and hanging out, which I feel will be this place's strong point.

At first I saddled up to the bar area, and I was more hungry than thirsty. After getting a beer to relax with, I order the Strip Steak entree as I was starving. I saw that it came with a mix of cucumber, tomato, and mozzarella, so I asked if they could just skip the veggie part of it and just bring the steak. Well, it came out and with all of the components, even the ones I had asked to 86. And I think I know why, as the cucumber and tomato seemed to make up the bulk of the entree. The steak part were about 8 or so smaller strips of steak, not a steak proper, with largely cut veggies and moz cheese. I ate the strips of steak and just didn't get what I needed, but again, maybe my expectations were not right. For the price I was paying for the steak entree, I definitely was expecting more. Anyway, I ordered the chicken tenders to try to get a full stomach. The tenders were uneventful, even generic, but most are, right?

The rest of my night was pretty non-eventful there. We moved to a booth but still had to go back to the bar to get our drinks, so not very impressed with that but other than that, nothing much else to report.

Bottom line: I'd go and hang out, have a drink or two, but not really burning to have eats there again. I'd go with 2.5 stars tops but they don't quite make it to 3 for me.

I've only been once, but that experience has put me off for a good while at least.

My philosophy on pub food or anything this simple is that it's got to be done well. That means when I could go to McDonalds and order the same meal for half the price, I expect the quality to blow me away.

Unfortunately, I ordered the chicken tenders and fries, and I was really unimpressed. While the portions were large, the tenders themselves reminded me of something in the frozen section of a grocery store that I could fry at home. They paled in comparison to Tribeca Tavern's hand-breaded chicken, which is also far less greasy than West Park Tavern's. The fries were also overdone.

As for the other two members of my party: My mom ordered fish and chips. She could only get through a quarter of it before she said she couldn't eat anymore; it was just that bad. My dad, on the other hand, ordered a burger and seemed to enjoy it.

The service was average. The ambiance: surprisingly upscale for what I expected in this location. What it came down to was the quality of the food though, and that just wasn't worth the price. If I decide to go back and try something else, I'll update my review.

It was ok. Really nice looking place. I'll go back to watch a game and have a few beers, but the food was less than impressive.  I went in for lunch and got a wrap. First, you should know that I'm pretty particular of the sandwiches that I at. That being said, I got the southwestern wrap. Sounded really good. I bit of steak and some nice southwestern favors. But the following things were wrong. 1. Poorly distributed ingredients. Hal of it had no steak while the other half was chock full. 2.  Barely any dressing. It is supposed to have this cilantro lime dressing in it and I could barely taste it. 3. Construction. I felt like the wrap was going to fall apart in my hands as it was not wrapped up well. Add to the it seemed like it was put on a flat top grill after being made, and while that may help it stay in shape, it just made it greasy.

So, will I go back?  I think so. If for no other reason than to give them another chance.

    Definitely a new close-to-home favorite.

Our first experience was definitely better than our second, but I'm still a fan of this brand new sports bar. On our first visit, we waited barely 20 min for a table and it was VERY busy. That corner of Cary must have been desperate for a change of pace!

Jay ordered the Blackened Blue burger (topped with blue cheese and onion straws) and I order the Potato Skins "appetizer" as a meal. These are not your ordinary skins. West Park is serving up 1/2 lb potato halves LOADED with delicious toppings (you can pick 2 of 4 options; they all sound good) and this was plenty of food for a meal. The Old Faithful style (bacon, cheese, scallions, sour cream) was tasty, but I really loved the Buffalo (chicken, cheddar and blue cheese). This was pretty much a heart attack on a plate, but I LOVE me some potatoes and this was a delicious splurge on a Friday night after a long work week.

On our second trip, Jay got the exact same burger (he clearly loved it) and I felt boring and tried the Chicken Finger trio; we started with onion rings. This app was definitely the least delicious thing we've had at West Park - they were totally flavorless and the breading was weird. Not my favorite.  The chicken tenders were pretty standard, but satisfying, and came with 3 dipping sauces - mustard (gross, but I hate all mustards), garlic ranch (tasty, but I didn't use it) and a spicy ketchup (delicious! We ended up sharing the little ramekin for all our fries).

I'd love for West Park Tavern to start up a trivia night, and it will be a great place to catch a football game in the fall. So many TVs and you can see them from wherever you're sitting. It might be a little on the pricier side for "bar food", but they're definitely doing something right and we'll be back.

Our food was meticulously prepared, and the portions were massive.  We took our burgers, and sandwiches home to eat the next day.

There is a children's menu; there's one price for all items on the children's menu.  If you order the grilled cheese, you'll still be paying the same price as you would for the angus cheeseburger.

We went there for lunch, and were disappointed that there's no lunch menu, considering the exhorbitance of regular menu.

    $10.50 hot dog? Seriously?
$10.00 wings?  They're $7.99 at Rudinos about a mile away.

    For lunch:
We paid $57.00 (no alcohol) for an appetizer (potato skins), 2 adult meals (burger, turkey club), and 2 kids meals (grilled cheese, cheesburger), and 1 soda.

Also - did anyone else find that on the menu - the burger descriptions is kind of confusing?  Did you know you were looking at a list of burgers?

As a local yocal who can finally walk to a restaurant/bar in my neighborhood, I gotta say, I'm pretty ticked off that this is what I can expect when I go to the West Park Tavern.

They're charging a premium on food that's right up there with Tribeca, but pale in comparison to Tribeca's
    a) organic/locally sourced theme,
    b) it's ambiance - at the tribeca - you won't be sitting in a booth that still reeks of veneer.
Don't get me wrong - they put a lot of pride in their food at the West Park Tavern, but I don't get the sense that they're on the same foodie level as the Tribeca, and I don't buy into the markup.

Putting the West Park Tavern side by side with Tyler's Tap room down the road, is also like comparing apples to oranges, IMHO.  The whole experience (dining/bar) is much more user friendly at Tylers.  Dining-wise - it's cheaper than the WPT too.

I asked our waitress whether or not they had any special events planned around attracting bar flies/regulars, and was disappointed to hear there really is no plan.  **Yawn**

So all in all, very disappointing that the proprietors of the WPT have over-shot their target audience, aiming for the hi-falootin' Cary crowd of folks who might appreciate their whiskey menu (**douchebags!!**), instead of value-conscious consumers.

The high prices reflected on the menu really put me off from going in there for a drink sans wife and kids.  I mean - do I really want to hang out with a bunch of people that are ok with getting fleeced like that?  Those are not my peeps, I can tell you that right away.

I like to keep dinner for 4 with kids at around $40.00 MAX for dinner, and $30.00 for lunch.  The way this place prices out puts it into a class of restaurant that I'll only eat at a few times a year, which is a shame, because the place is right in my back yard.

We have visited West Park Tavern twice.  The food has been A+ each time.  The Shrimp & Grits was beyond amazing.  Better than any other grits I have tasted.  The Chicken Caeser and Southwest wraps were really good as was the Philly Steak sandwich.  The loaded potatoes were sinfully delicious as they should be!

First reviewer mentioned the prices which are just a little higher but it is well worth it.  The atmosphere is great with a large bar, loads of seating with tables and booths and a very comfortable couch area.  There are also something like 30 big screen tvs.  The prices are even more affordable when you consider the quantity of food.    We walked away with a lot of leftovers each meal.

The owner, Mario, came to our table each visit to make sure everything was okay.

Bottom line, all of the food we had was super good, its a great place to eat and the service was good.  What else can you ask for :)

West Park Tavern is a very inviting restaurant/bar located in a plaza behind Dunkin Donuts on the corner of High House and Hwy 55.  It is brand new and is a bit upscale, but also warm and friendly.  I had the opportunity to eat there with a friend yesterday.

The food is quite good.  I had a grilled chicken sandwich and my buddy had the homewrecker 1/2 lb hotdog with everything on it.  The quality of the food is immediately apparent, the chicken was very flavorful, and the french fries look hand cut on site.  The menu varies from typical bar food to some original recipes.

The prices are a bit higher than your average restaurant/bar in the area (with the exception of Tribeca grill, but that place is also pricey).  Some examples, chicken quesadilla will run you $10, a specialty burger runs from $10-$13, wings are $10, etc.

The place is brand new so I didn't expect it to run perfectly, and we had an issue.  Part of a toothpick was left in the homewrecker from the cooking process and my buddy bit into it.  But the management handled it like pro's, apologizing and comping the dish.  My only negative was that the chicken was cooked on a flat top, so it did have flavors of the other food cooked on the flat top in it.

All in all it is a nice place to go, good food & atmosphere.  The prices will keep it out of our regular lunch rotation, but it will be a nice place to eat and grab a beverage every now and then.

    Updated:

After going to west park about 6 times now, and trying a bunch of different things, I have to conclude that the food is really not that good unless you want a hamburger.  The Mac and Cheese is awful, literally you do better with kraft.  The "handbreaded chicken fingers" are out of a sysco box, and the nachos have one the worst cheese "sauce" I have every tasted.  This place has so much promise.  I would advise them to rethink their entire menu and stop trying to get so fancy and concentrate on great taste.
