Located on the "wrong" side of the tracks in downtown Billings, the Western is a dive bar with a friendly atmosphere. Â I've only been there over the holidays, so I might be getting a skewed reading on the place. Â I think they are calling this area south of the railroad tracks "Old Town" now, and in a decade or so this place could be interesting, though all the growth in Billings seems to be further west end sprawl.
The usual video poker and keno machines line the wall, and there is a pool table in the back room.  The requisite dead animal heads are above the bar also.  Live animials seem welcome here too, with at least four  friendly dogs spotted on the Friday night I was there.  This included "Little Joe", a well mannered black pomeranian named after the Bonanza character.
They had some Montana beers in the bottle, though the usual macro brews on tap. Â Stiff cocktails seemed the norm. Â The kind a place I hope can stay open until better times come to the neighborhood (like what has happened a few blocks over on Montana Avenue).
