Slow service with limited food options. I'd probably give this five stars in the context of Whidbey Island (not much else to choose from here)... the pies ARE pretty phenomenal. The salted caramel apple pie was fantastic. Otherwise the salads were tiny and expensive. Service was slow.
Review Source:It wasn't bad. Â Not at all. Â However, given some of the reviews on here I was expecting pie nirvana, and instead I got a good slice of pie for a little more than I wanted to spend. Â I tried the salted caramel apple pie (four star) and the triple berry (three star). Â I thought the crust was great on both pies, but the triple berry had more of a cobbler consistency. Â Nothing really held it together. Â The slices alone were $4.50 each, and then an extra $0.50 a la mode. Â I'm not a total tightwad, but $5 for a slice of pie was steep. Â I would definitely consider going back, but I wouldn't make a special trip just for the pie. Â Obviously, others feel different, so I might be either too picky or had an off day. Â The ice cream was also crazy melty. Â It was the end of the day, maybe the freezer had just been opened a billion times and thawed it out a little.
Review Source:A friend brought us an apple pie from Whidbey Pies Cafe in Greenbank Farm. It was the best I've ever had, so I went there about a year later, and again, BESTEST APPLE PIE EVER. Â Me and my two kids just ate it all. Â I'm ready for another. Â Everything about their apple pie is perfect.
Review Source:Absolutely perfect and delicious pies! Probably the best I've ever had. Every time I'm on the island I try to pick up a pie to bring to friends or family. (I'd eat the whole pie if I took it home!) I've tried Marionberry, Rhubarb, Strawberry Rhubarb, and Salted Caramel Apple. Each one is so wonderful with Rhubarb being my favorite. The service has always been very sweet too.
Review Source:This little gem is attached to the Whidbey Farm. It's a great place to grab a sandwich, to go, and/or a pot pie, to eat and enjoy at the State Park nearby. Yes, you can eat there, too, but you really should picnic at the State Park, overlooking the water and the incredible bridge.
The chicken pot pie is awesome. It has huge chunks of chicken and the crust is light and flaky.
They press their sandwiches for you, panini style. Hubby had turkey and enjoyed it.
But be sure to order a slice of the apple pie for dessert. You won't regret it! Best park of the meal!
Five stars. Â Holler. Â Why? Well, this place merited a second visit. Â The next meal. Â On the same day.
You get the feeling you're sitting at your Mom's kitchen table, waiting for some home-cooked goodness. Â Great views of their farm, fresh flowers at each table, genuinely friendly and knowledgeable servers. Â The enthusiasm of the employees there - It's like they've been waiting for you to come back. Â And you will.
All of the food is freshly prepared, organic gorgeous greens abound, quality ingredients, flavor-palooza. Â And make sure you save room for dessert. Â Don't forget because once you catch a glimpse of their pies ... you won't be able to resist.
Prices are moderate, you get what you pay for my momma says. Â And the joy with which their food is grown, prepared, and served rings true. Â You will taste it. Â I can't wait to visit again.
Good food, strange salad offerings, and a bit pricey.
Ended up getting the Quiche and picking off the crust. Â But it was delicious sausage, cheese, red bell pepper made up this quiche, yum! Although it was $9 which I think is a little pricey for a cafe. Â It came with lettuce that was tossed in olive oil and balsamic vinegar, can't add a few cucumbers or tomato to make it more of a salad?
My husband got the tomato basil soup which was delicious, along with half a tuna salad sandwich which they pressed in the panini maker to warm, and a slice of pie which he enjoyed. Â It was a decent sized slice. Â The downside was that when he asked if they did a half sandwich soup combo and the waitress said yes, that meant you were just getting charged the price on the menu for half a sandwich and a cup of soup... no discount for ordering it together.
So all and all good food, but pricey for a cafe. Â Ok service. Â And one of the only options in town...
The  setting  is  very attractive - a big  pond -  big  red  barn -  and the  hopes  for a slice  of  good ol' pie.  I  ordered  the tart  bing cherry  pie and my  wife  ordered  the Loganberry  pie.  Figured the  pie  fillings  couldn't  come from a can.
They were both  good - just  good.  The  slices were  a  bit  on the  small size -  about what you  would  get  from a store  bought  pie.  Were the  pies  worth the drive - I'd  say  not -  I came  20  miles  out  of my way to the  pie.  If I was back in the area  again I'd  stop in and  have more  pie - but -  these  were  not the  best slices  of  pie for  me.
Super attentive online, via email - got to the restaurant on Mother's Day with reservation in hand and then watched 3 other people get served who came in after our party. Â Not impressed. Â
I can forgive alot if there is awesome pie to be had. Â Meh. Â The piece of pie I purchased to go was teeny tiny, bland even though it was strawberry rhubarb, and the crust was broken off, bland and boring. Â I want to be a fan of any place that specializes in pies, I really do. Â But I will not go out of my way to come here again - I get much better pie other places. Â Sorry guys, work on the crust.
We have stopped in here a couple times. Â The property here is very nice, gotta love all the ducks. Â The food is ok. Â I have had the chicken pot pie twice. Â It was good, the portion is very small; just a little slice. Â We tried the pies the first time and were disappointed with the rhubarb, but liked the apple. Â This place is conveniently close and we will be back. Â The staff is always very nice and food is ready quick.
Review Source:Maybe it was the fact that the sun FINALLY came out after months of gloom, but I loved this place. Â We came in for lunch at 12:30 and got a table right away, in a sunny corner overlooking the cute duck pond. Â Service was friendly and prompt and the pies were great. Â Bonus points for having a different vegetarian savory pie each day. Â After stuffing ourselves with lunch pie and dessert pie, we popped into the art galleries next door and strolled around the farm. Â Lovely!
Review Source:This place is great. Â A casual place that has very good, fresh food.
This time around I had their special - pulled pork with yam pot pie accompanied by a side salad. Â The pot pie was amazing - the pulled pork and yams were tender and combined buttery but crisp crunch of the pie it was a great mouth feel. Â The bbq sauce the in the pie was sweet and flavorful without being overpowering. Â It was just the right size pie and incredibly filling. Â
Not to say I didn't have dessert too - the cherry pie, which was the perfect amount of sweet and tart. Â Another great crust, lighter than the pot pie crust, so it didn't feel like we were eating tons of bread. Â
A great place to drop by after camping on the island.
I love this place!!! Â The food here is homemade and wonderful! Â Wondering in here after a hike on a cold February day, I had to die for Spicy Black bean soup (Vegetarian) with great homemade bread. Â The soup is incredible and they have a different special soup each day.
As for the service, our waitress was very friendly. Â Â The bus girl, obviously had a busy afternoon, which showed as she rushed around. Â
It is a small restaurant, so seating is limited and it seems to be a hang out for the locals on the island. Â Be patient if it is busy, as they are quick to seat you and get you fed.
I will definately come back the next time I go to the island.
After striking out on trying to stop by my favorite place in Freeland (Gordon's on Blueberry Hill), I headed up to Greenbank in the hopes of finding some num nums. The Yelp reviews are right on for this cafe that is located at the Greenbank Winery. The food was well prepared and the pies were delicious (had a reuben sandwich and a slice of cherry pie with vanilla ice cream). As a bonus there is also an adjoining wine shop and delightful little cheese shop nearby. Â The Greenbank Farm is charming all on its own and is a good place to walk around and just relax. Â Cheerio.
Review Source:The Whidbey Pies Cafe is also a Winery which was interested.
First this place is good for women and I went for lunch.
I ordered a sandwich (ruben) and seafood chowder. The chowder was homemade but could have been better. The Ruben was good but something that could be gotten anywhere there was nothing special.
Since they are suppose to be known for their Pies I ordered the apple. I ate it 3 days later and was so so but needed more cinnamon and the crust wasn't that special.
Otherwise nice atmosphere but not the best cafe I have had.
My husband and I love to stop in for lunch at the Whidbey Pie Cafe after taking our dog, Â Whidbey (aptly named) on a great walk in the farm's fields and trails. It is off leash fun, and for our Aussie-Brittany Spaniel it is heaven. Â But our heaven is the lunch at the Cafe. Â Incredibly delicious sandwiches, salads and homemade soup, always followed by a piece of warm pie, our favorite being marionberry, with a scoop of ice cream. Â The servers are friendly, the atmosphere homey and intimate. Not to be missed if you are on Whidbey Island!
Review Source:Been here twice now in the past 6 or so months and for something different and more "healthy" than the fast food at the local shell station or pub food, I would definitely suggest going here for a bite to eat!
They offer soups (some that sound scrumptious and not of the normal offerings), salads, Panini's, sandwiches, slices of homemade pies, etc.
The two things I've had here for food is there walnut blue cheese salad with I think it was a raspberry vinaigrette and their BLT Panini (that included the obvious, Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato, but added was havarti cheese and mayo). Â
Both hit the spot and were quite good!!!
Their pies look amazingly good and will definitely have to come back when I have enough room in the belly to eat pie. Â Their offerings go from Loganberry to Rhubarb. Â
If staying on the island or wanting to bring one home, they also have whole pies to sell and take with you. Â
If I knew that I would not waste any of it, I'd definitely be doing this, BUT... I don't think I could finish a whole pie on my own without it going bad first.
They are on the right side of the main building and have windows that look out onto the pond that have duck and geese filling it. Â Such peaceful scenery to enjoy while enjoying their delicious food.
Nestled next to a beautiful garden (maintained by local master gardners) with a duck-filled lake, this is the perfect place to grab a scrumptious panini or have a nice piece of quiche. The staff is wonderful and accomodating and the food is good. They also have a multi-course, pre-set dinner menu the last Friday of each month. (Reservations recommended.)
The amazing PIES are the big draw a lot of patrons. We've had berry pies as well as apple pies, and they're all extraordinarily delicious. You can buy whole pies as well, to take home, either unbaked or baked.
As I mentioned before, the staff is very accomodating. The day before Thanksgiving, we ordered a pie for pick up and although they were well past their deadline for taking orders, they helped us out, which was incredibly sweet.
We stopped here while driving around Whidbey Island. The pie was great, and it's on the grounds of a touristy farm, which has art galleries, a cheese shop, and a little duck pond. It's a good spot to stretch your legs. Apparently the original owner of the farm invented the loganberry and that's the pie I ordered - YUM! They had lunch too, and whole pies for sale.
Review Source:When I heard that my Naval Flight School graduate cousin was waiting for her post and that Whidbey Island was one of the options, my mouth watered with pie jealousy. Â
Granted, I haven't been to this place in a year+, so my review may be biased (rose colored lenses and all) but I stand by the 5-star pie. Â They've got the classics (apple) as well as a few I was unfamiliar with. Â Marion berry? Â Strawberry rhubarb, anyone? Â My only lament is Whidbey's absurd distance from my Bay Area home. Â One day I'll accrue enough payed time off and frequent flier miles. Sigh.
I confess: I didn't actually have any of the pie cos I was too full from the fantastically delicious lunch I had just finished.
Curried Winter Squash Soup + half a grilled cheese (with fancy bread and even fancier cheese) pretty much killed any desire I had to put anything else in my belly.
Despite the fact that they were totally packed (obviously a regular occurrence), the service was quick & friendly, and the prices were cheaper than I expected for such good food.
Definitely a good lunch spot - and likely to be added to the regular list of places to stop from now on. Next time: PIE only!
I once lived on Whidbey Island. Whidbey Pies Cafe is a slice of Americana not to be missed. Think Garrison Keillor's fictional Prairie Home Companion and Lake Wobegon- in real life. My first trip to Whidbey Pies Cafe was on a Sunday. It was overcast, a little damp from a few sprinkles. As I arrived to the cafe I couldn't help but notice the cute little pond and benches to the right of the Cafe doors. Once inside I noticed the wonderful smell of good old fashioned home cooking. My friend and I decided to have a light afternoon snack. I had the tuna melt and he had the minestrone soup. For dessert I had Rhubarb Pie- which was the most delicious, mouth watering pie I've ever tasted in my entire life. I love to bake, I would consider myself a serious baker and not only was the pie delicious but the crust was exceptional- flaky, buttery, in one word: perfect. During the couple years that I lived here on the Island this was one of my most favorite places to visit.
Review Source:We came here initially because of the great word of mouth on their PIES ~ marionberry, huckleberry, loganberry and more!  I handcarried one of their fab pies from Seattle back to San Jose ~ the TSA folks had a chuckle over the pie I put through their x-ray machines which nonetheless elicited  smiles for an otherwise difficult job.
As the other folks stated, the fresh baked bread, soups, salads and sandwiches are the stuff of delectable madness BUT the pies reign supreme with me! Â Alas, I'm too far to enjoy them short a trip back to Whidbey Island.....
Oh yeah, the views in this area of the island are truely amazing.....there is a little wine tasting you can do before or after you eat here adjacent to the cafe. Â Plus, there are a number of little stores you can walk to nearby....just don't forget the PIES!!!
