I'm back home for the holidays, & a friend & I decided to do a mini tour of Port Washington's "finest" (big exaggerated finger quotes) dive joints. Our town is pretty small & our livers weren't up for any kind of big night, but we figured there's no better place to start than the old hole in the wall across from the train station, the Flobet Tavern. And what better night than Christmas night?
When we arrived, we were sad to see that the Flobet was no more, but in its place stood the mighty White Horse Tavern. It sounded noble & stately enough, so we strode in & got punched in the face with a pungent vomit stench. Loud Mexican music blared & nobody spoke English in the joint. Still, they had PBR on tap. It wasn't cheap, but wasn't too expensive either. We sat by the door so we could get wafts of fresh air as people came & went, but the dudes smoking weed outside kinda prevented that. There was a dude passed out in his chair right inside the doorway as well, his head hung over the back of the chair. Merry Christmas, buddy.
One drink & we cut out. It sounds like a one star experience at best, but we went out in search of seediness & the White Horse exceeded our wildest expectations. That enough is worth an extra star in this review. And hey, at least the PBR was cold! You can't go wrong there.
