I've been eyeing this restaurant for ages (especially since it's right down the street). Â My husband finally gave in and last night we tried it for the first time. Â It's richly done with impressive accents and a gorgeous bar surrounded by a brass rail (ha). Â We went early on a Monday evening and entered into an (unfortunately) freezing cold, almost empty restaurant. Â No problem, we decided to sit at the bar. Â Beers on tap are top notch, more obscure craft beers which I am completely a fan of. Â Wines are served in personalized carafes and my glass was nicely chilled for my Sauvignon Blanc.
To start we were given freshly baked rolls...almost too hot too handle but delicious and soft. Â Sitting at the bar made it a little difficult to eat as there is a space between the bar top and the brass rail surrounding it. Â There were some (cutlery) casualties.
We started off with the rock shrimp. Â While they appeared to be regular shrimp and not the tiny rock shrimp we were expecting, they were delicious - fried to a crispy golden brown and served with a spicy creamy sauce. Â There was much more there than we expected but determined, we finished them all.
For dinner, my husband got the Jalapeno Cheddar burger, cooked to a perfect medium and served with shoestring fries. Â I chose the Branzino, a whole fish filleted and deboned, served with two fried artichokes, zucchini spaghetti, and crispy capers. Â While I normally dislike capers, the salty, brine-y taste was a perfect complement to the dish. Â And the artichokes....best thing on the plate hands down.
Service was attentive but not overly so which was nice because we WERE almost the only ones in the restaurant.
I can't wait to go back and explore the restaurant even more!
Delicious! Â This is probably one of my favorite places to eat on Long Island. Â Incredibly friendly staff, nice decor (if you can snag the table by the fireplace you won't be disappointed), and incredible food. Â My favorites are the Sirloin burger au poivre and the french dip. Â Locust Valley is a beautiful and quaint little town, and this restaurant is the perfect spot to grab a bite. Â Love it.
