Meridian

Its gone downhill....I think that's why this once higher-end restaurant where it used to be difficult to get a reservation is now resorting to Groupon to fill the tables...  always a bad sign.   At least the Groupon thing validates thinking that something's not the same at Meridian.    A shame --- it used to be a good restaurant.

1 thing I love? Groupons.  So when I saw one for this place I immediately jumped on it.  I just moved close-by & I like trying new places.

Then I looked at the menu.

I was so confused.  A fusion is typically a mix of both cuisines.  RIght?

It was almost as if this place was having an identity crisis.  I feel like the owner wasn't sure if he wanted to open a burger joint or a sushi restaurant, so he was like, HEY....I'm gonna do both.  

So I was already annoyed before even getting to the restaurant because I had no idea if I was in the mood for rigatoni alla vodka, a spicy crunchy tuna roll OR a juicy burger.  ANY ONE ELSE THINK THIS IS WEIRD??  

I decided to go the asian route.  I got a lychee martini (delish) A house salad with ginger dressing, asian fried calamari & the sauteed mozzarella (okay- not asian, but it sounded great)  calamari was really good, but i've had better.  Sauteed mozzarella was really good & unique.  My lady friend & I also split the salmon teriyaki.  They split it in the kitchen so we each had our own plate.  It was fresh & super tasty

Service was good as well.

Only thing is, I don't think i would return if it wasn't for the groupon.  It was pretty pricey, and I'm still a little baffled at the menu.

The dinner started out with a great appetizer of tuna tartar and crab.  From there it was pretty much sub par sushi.  We tried a few pieces ala carte, a few rolls from the regular menu and a few from the special ones. None were special. In fact the spider roll looked like it was made from spiders not crabs the legs were so tiny. In all it was not worth the money even with a groupon discount. For a small restaurant the service was poor as well.  I ordered shrimp and got salmon.  I guess they both start with an $.
