I can finally say I'm a sushi fan thanks to Wild Ginger. Many of my friends boast about their love for sushi, and I could never relate. Now I'm in the mix! Ha! This establishment is certainly relaxing. The white, red and sprinkles of black decor made it sophisticated and alluring. I adored the usage of glass doors everywhere. One even hung from the ceiling. My favorite was the beautiful origami chandelier, which hosted an array of colors. Wild Ginger is swanky and polished.
I was fond of the bar setting upfront towards the middle, which had chefs decked out in Japanese attire whipping up everyone's meals.
I ordered the shrimp, octopus and crab sushi's ($3-$5 each). I also ordered a main dish Stir Fried Sob Udon Noodles with chicken, which came with miso soup, salad, peanut dressing and rice ($14).
The waiter recommended all this and was right on the money. The only thing I could've done without was the octopus. You're probably wondering why I tried it in the first place. Hey you only live once. But it was just too slimy for me, and I couldn't grasp it.
The shrimp and crab was simple, yet appetizing. The miso soup was interesting. I couldn't decide what was happening there. I mean it was good, but odd tasting. Hmmm... Next up was the salad accompanied with peanut dressing. Doesn't that sound gross? It was far from unpleasant though. I quickly was caught in its web of scrumptiousness. The dressing was everything. It was creamy and zesty. I couldn't get enough of it.The Stir Fried Sob a or Udon Noodles with chicken was a nice portion size and loaded with delicious veggies. It was full of flavor and came alive with each bite. I enjoyed the sushi while my boyfriend said, "I'm not a fan!"
So I'm excited to return with the ladies. Ha!
Prepare for fresh Japanese-style cuisine in a crisply modern decor.  More than a fun sushi bar, Wild Ginger's menu offers multiple types of nigiri, sashimi, and rolls while including non-sushi options like tempura, skewers and buckwheat noodle/udon  combinations.
The dining room's design is crisply modern and clean. Â The Friday night we dined was busy - a large party filled the back dining area. Â (Popular plaza offers many dining choices, so lot was packed with some spots open in very back.) Â We chose an outdoor table, but expected to flag down staff since indoors was keeping them on their toes. Â Despite the crowd and summer heat, we were served promptly and with smiles.
Started with excellent Gyoza (fried dumplings), Guinness and Stella. Â I think we really missed out not trying the Plum Flight: Â four 2oz. samples of chilled plum wines. Â Or at least a glass from the extensive saki list with fun names like "Beautiful Young Man" and "Drunken Heart".
No complaints when we split a Dinner Combination 2. Â A small, fresh salad with peanut dressing arrived first. Tasty miso soup arrived in a small, lidded bowl. Â Dinner was served on a traditional zen tray accompanied by a medium bowl of white rice. Condiments included shaved ginger, wasabi, and soy.
Hubby enjoyed the California roll. Â I liked both the Chicken and Beef Teriyaki and would choose the Chicken Teriyaki again because it was so wonderfully tender. Â Two potato croquettes with a light panko breading and a tiny spring roll nestled in the corners of our tray as we debated how to split them.
If you're a more daring diner, try the Unaju (eel). Â More traditional diner? Â Try a twist on the pork tenderloin: Â Wild Ginger's Tonkatsu specialty is battered and deep-fried.
Wild Ginger is our go-to sushi bar close to home. The specialty rolls are creative, the traditional rolls are familiar and I enjoy the plum wine flight offered. On busy nights, it's best to make a reservation or call for take out.
We waited 40-45 minutes without a reservation and we were in a bit of a rush to get through our meal to make it on time for the second half of our date.
Tonight was the most crowded I've seen this place! Â Maybe it was the holidays. Â It doesn't matter because the sushi was fabulous. Â We waited about 10 minutes to be seated. Â The wait staff was great. Â The food was awesome. Â I recommend the "mistake" roll and yellowfin tuna nigiri. Â The tuna melts in your mouth like butter. Â On top of that, great atmosphere. Â When you're done, go next door to Hearthstone, Chatham Tap, or Chateau Thomas Wine bar for a nightcap!
Review Source:The sushi is amazing and customer service is good. Unfortunately I have had some fluctuation in the quality of food. Ginger salad is one of my favorite foods and sometimes the dressing is one of my favorites other times it is very watered down. Either way the I will continue to visit and recommend highly.
Review Source:This place is awesome. Fresh and delicious combinations sure to satisfy your taste buds. Same owners and menu as Wasabi in Indianapolis. We love every roll we choose. Brad is our favorite server. He is very knowledgable and sure to take care of you. He always makes the best suggestions. There is a nice but casual atmosphere, great for lunch or a dinner date. I hope you enjoy as much I do!!
Review Source:All around, this place is good. Â I have always come here for lunch, and their lunch menu is a fairly good deal. Â You can get some nigiri or maki, along with your typical tempura and teriyaki selections--for around $10-12, you will get your fill of salad, miso soup, and an entree. Â You can also choose from their sushi menu, have some soba noodles, or various other things. Â Their wine selection is also great, although I haven't partaken during lunch. Â I would agree with another reviewer that there are better sushi places in Indy, but this is a good option for Fishers.
Review Source:I was excited to try this new place when I came in town for Christmas, especially given all the positive reviews.
I'm really surprised at the outpouring  of love for this place. There are much better sushi options in Indianapolis.
My chief complaint would be that the rolls are overloaded on rice compared to meager amounts of fish. Â The servings are mostly 6 pieces, but the prices are lower (confused about the reviewer here that complained about this place being expensive).
The rolls we had were all edible, and the spicy albacore with the ponzu sauce was the most memorable, but with all the rice, they really just weren't very flavorful. Â The Firecracker roll has jalapeno in it (somewhere) but even that didn't seem spicy.
The most interesting thing was the origami chandelier, but unfortunately,
you can't eat that.
Did someone here mention that Wasabi on 82nd is run by the same people? Â Well, if that's true they're doing better on 82nd St than they are on 116th.
I checked out Wild Ginger today for lunch and will definitely go back. Â They have a number of lunch specials that include soup and salad in addition to your meal. Â I had a california roll, spicy tuna roll, salad & soup for $9.50. Â The fish was very fresh. Â I carried out so I can't really comment on the service or the decor. Â The carry out was very quick though. Â I will definitely go back to Wild Ginger to try more sushi and other menu items. Â I'll update my review as I have more experience with them.
Review Source:New Sushi bar with great ambiance. Â Family owned establishment, friendly staff, funky- eclectic atmosphere and the Sushi isn't half bad.
Usually when you enter places that are this nicely decorated you wonder if they're hiding mediocre food. Â But not in this case. Â Sushi was fresh and the chef is very creative with his rolls. Â Good upscale Sake list as well as traditional wines.
Great location for business meeting or nice for a date. Â Excellent Hamilton County location. Â CHECK THIS PLACE OUT... very nice.
