    Getting sh*tty @ the kitty!

Might have to be already well into your drinking binge before coming here, seeing as it's all one hot, sweaty mess inside. However, everyone loves a fun-loving crowd, so I can't totally hate on this place.

At about 12:30pm, we walked down the street from Tonic and saw a line at the Wildcat! A little talking to the bouncer got all 9 girls to the front of the line! They let our bachelorette in for free and everyone else paid the $5 cover. Drinks are cheap, the music's bumpin', and there's go-go dancers on platforms lining the dance floor. It gets VERY crowded and you'll probably have drinks spilled on you, your feet stepped on, and people trying to maneuver their way through, but come with a carefree party attitude and you'll be fine! The crowd is friendly and everyone is out to have a good time!

There's also a small patio in the back if you get claustrophobic.

Shoulder-to-shoulder sweaty 20-somethings, constant deafening ADD-snippets of dance music, a poo-smelling hallway that houses the bathrooms and also serves as the only access to the smokey and congested back patio. If this is your idea of a good time, enjoy. If not, it's a place you want to avoid if at all possible.

One of my closest friends is gay and comes here often on weekends because it's one of the better gay scenes in Santa Barbara. I totally agree with that judging from the enthusiasm for the entertaining weekend drag queen shows and the many happy same-sex couples getting down on the dance floor. But gay I am not, nor am I a fan of screaming for hours to be heard or shouldering my way up to the bar for an overpriced cocktail. There is very little here to interest me, but again, my review is coming from the perspective of someone who does not enjoy any of this. If this is your scene, you'll be in heaven.

Went on a Sunday gay night.

Reminded me of the queer bars in Berlin: super cute, unpretentious, non-judgmental and friendly. Also, some fancy 80s/90s pop music that is a nice break from the usual house/techno clubs. I also appreciated the spectrum of folk, ranging from older to younger, hyper-hip to wonderfully-simple - and everyone seemed quite nice.

I wish there was a place like this in LA.

I was up in SB for the weekend and had a blast. Great drinks, fun music, great dancing!

I got wasted and forgot my jacket... just called the owner and he is shipping it back to me. Love a small town atmosphere with such awesome customer service and such great people! THANK YOU THANK YOU!! I will definitely be back!

Went here for a belly dance showcase. Plenty of seating, roomy dance floor, and fun atmosphere. They played remixed 80s and 90s music with some current hits. I really appreciate that hip hop was the minority of what I heard. The drink was ok, but it was complimentary. Beggars can't be choosers.
    I will be back :)

I'm so sorry, Wildcat. You know I love you but recently you have been a disappointment. But let me first start off with why I first loved you.

You had GREAT music (black music, blended with other genres-- it was heaven compared to the Savoy and Tonic). People were always dancing. You had a fog machine and lights going on. And we were more than welcomed to dance in the go-go dancer box. Sigh...

Then something started happening. You started playing more electro/house/dubstep and in addition you had soooo many creepers. And that wouldn't be so bad, but there was like a ratio of 3 creepers to 1 girl. And they were freakin' persistent. One guy in the span of 5 minutes literally came up to me 5 times, I had to threaten to chop his balls off for him to stop. I know you can't control the creepers but something needs to be done because they are killing your vibe.

I'm a local and have gone to Wildcat for years! Every year my friends and I get bottle service for Halloween, this year it was also my boyfriend's birthday. Nicole Unruh-Enos, the bar manager helped me make reservations in advance, pick out our VIP area and our bottles. I received amazing service!

Nicole is amazing - she was always available for any questions and made the night perfect. Our waitress was great and took care of everything we needed. I couldn't have asked for anything better.

Wildcat is a great place to hang out, have a party or just blow off some steam.

The crowd isn't pretentious, but generally younger UCSB students (esp. on Thursdays- aka: College Night, no cover).
Ever heard of "getting sh*tty at the kitty?" This may happen to you here, but it's so laid back that you needn't fear judgement, just get up on stage and work what you've got!

i was highly disappointed about this place, since it came so highly recommended from a friend of my cousins.  I think the only silver lining about coming here is that it's given me a new found appreciation of San Diego night life.  This place was a hot mess from the second we walked in to time we walked out.  Super gawdy decor, mediocre drinks, mediocre bartenders, and a generous helping of super random, yet kinda scary locals!  This place reminds me of what a dive bar's throw up would look like OR Candyland on crack.  People looked super confused and all over the place.  Can i have what they're having please to subdue the stress cause the vodka wasn't kicking in??

Oh, and the only reason why they're getting two stars is because the music was pretty good!

The best thing about this place are the drinks...sooo cheap!  music is OK. But whatever you do, don't go here dressed too cute, everyone wears sandals and jeans. I came in wearing the cutest dress and felt totally over dressed.

I used to frequent this place when I first turned 21, but slowly have stopped going out to clubs like these because I think the drinks are over priced at times as well as the ridiculous cover charges that you sometimes encounter. This place, although they do have covers from time to time, still allows me to have fun, relax, get drunk, and I am not paying an arm and a leg to do that. Bottle service is great here too!

Wildcat. We know you by so many names: the shitty kitty, the kat, the shit kat, kitty but i have one name for it..  home. Don't laugh. Wildcat, despite the pejorative monikers that have been bestowed upon you and your unsightly brickwalls, i and thousands of others know this is the spot to be. you turn a blind eye to anyone who falls in line whether it be silvertops, cougars or the occasional parolee who just got out on a B&E but that's why we love you.

Whether you want to call gay night industry night to drive more people in, or offer dominos pizza on a sunday afternoon I stand by you. I do this because your resilience through this everchanging scene that is called the santa barbara night life has exceeded the expectations of those old and young.

the kat is off the beaten path and has made a name for itself over the years. although they do not offer drink specials on Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays, you're guranteed great music, a smokey back lounge and servers who know how to get you to open your wallet.

The staff at wildcat is amazing. never before have i had my liver pushed to the limits of instantaneous cirrhosis till i met the wild cat. The servers are really attentive and where else in santa barbara can 1st class service after 10 pm? if you get a cocktail, be sure to get the large; it's a better value and a better time especially if the cougs are on the prowl. They also clear all the glasses expeditiously  to ensure a clean fight that will only involve hair pulling.

make sure you wear a collared shirt with those chucks.  although they allow the cholo on easter look every other day of the week (e.g. laker jersey with white undershirt, light washed baggy jeans and white shell toes with a dodger hat slightly tilted to the side.) they have a strict dress code on the prime days so leave your jordan's at home and take all the tags and stickers off your cap.

if you want to get in, make sure you get there early or expect to wait in line...yes that includes all you weho chicks who come to SB for a wedding or bridal shower.   they charge a cover sometimes but that's because they're the kat! this is the place to be. if you don't believe me, then you belong at sharkeez!

This is the weirdest "club"/lounge/bar I have ever visited.  I came here after a nice dinner with my five bridesmaids on my bachelorette party.  One of my bridesmaids who had recently been in Santa Barbara said we should go here for a laugh to see the dancing girls.  We got there at around 10 pm and there were no dancing girls nor was there a DJ.  The bartender told us the girls would be out "whenever" and that the DJ was coming in 30 minutes.  She also dropped a snarky comment about me being on my bachelorette party and then covered herself by saying I wasn't as bad as most.  Attitude was gross.

When the DJ finally did come on, he played some extremely odd music - like club remixes of Paul Simon?!?!?  Never in my life have I heard that in a place where I'm supposed to be dancing.  All the tables near the dance floor were "reserved" and we were asked to move our items, but no one ever showed up to take the alleged reservation.  Also, the smoke that blows out from a smoke machine onto the dance floor smells horrible and made my eyes burn.  Awful!

The highlight of the evening was a deranged man with a bowl cut in a shiny blazer dancing spastically (think Elaine from Seinfeld) by himself in the middle of the dance floor.

The "Shitty Kitty" really doesn't get shitty unless they mean you get shitFACED LOL

I've came here on Thursday nights through Sunday nights for different occasions and they always have the BEST dance music.

They have a large bar indoors and a small bar outdoors along with a patio smoking area.

Small cups of ice and water are usually sitting at the side of the indoor bar and it's nice to have something to refresh our alcoholic, dancing selves.

Always a good time coming here for sure! :D

It's not Hollywood, but this place was actually not easy to get into on a Friday.  There was a huge line.  And while waiting in line, we chatted up the girls behind us.  One looked dorky and out of place in her sweatshirt hoodie (what?  who wears that to the club?  aside from the Tru promoter <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/tru-hollywood-los-angeles#hrid:mumblXywtJMGkIwrfnCn5Q">http://www.yelp.com/biz/…</a>) and the other one was covered in tattoos and had huge bouncy tatas spilling out of her tight low cut dress.  We were intrigued.

As it turned out, they live in Santa Barbara and the tata girl said she knows the doorman.  Well, work it girl!  So she went up front to investigate and then waved us over and got us all to skip the line!  Yay power of titties.  What I wonder is, why was she waiting in line to begin with?  Should have marched up there from the beginning!  But glad she waited for a bit and we got to tag along.

Entrance was $5 with a $2 coat check.  The drinks were maybe $8?  No idea.  Packed inside.  Good music, like hip hop and I was moving and feelin' it.  There was an outdoor area too that has tables and smokers and lots of people.  Your average flip flop, casual Santa Barbara crowd for the most part.  Everyone was friendly.  Love it.

    LOVE. THIS. PLACE.

great dancing/music, great people watching, decent drinks.  the go go dancers (& crazy drunk people who got in the go go cages) were a hoot. definitely the right choice for a Ladies Night Out.

we got there at 10:30 & snagged the last booth.  THAT IS KEY TO YOUR ENJOYMENT.  get a booth. seriously. otherwise when it gets crazy busy you will either be smashed into the crowd OR have to go to the gross smoky patio.

young people, old people, tattooed people, Jersey shore people, butches, baby dikes, bizarre Dirty Southerners, lecherous dot-commers, transgendered people, middle aged married white ladies making out with multpile men-- we saw it all!

The only reason I didn't end up here more often: I am too cheap to pay a cover. (Even a considerably cheap cover.)

This is one of the best places for dancing in SB. The DJs are great! Tuesdays are 80's night (at least they were before I moved away). We would dance for 4.5hours straight!

Fun environment. Drinks reasonable. The outdoor patio can get a bit unbearable with all the smokers, but there is some seating inside.

Don't be intimidated by the line. It goes fast. And wear comfortable shoes!

Once again the Shitty Kitty gives oh so good surprises! This has become my staple in my daily post-work schedule. Who could've thought this late night rowdy loud place could be soothing and wonderful during its early hours.

My time here began on a fateful Christmas Eve and its been a love story ever since. The place has become home-y, as both Delilah (how could I forget your name now!) and Burl make each visit a wonder. They've got great happy hour specials and it comes with PIZZA on everyday of happy hour. I tend to head out of the Wildcat as soon as the crowd grows, but if you really want a good bar experience that will establish a report over time, head on down to the place that you're used to being shitfaced at 1am at....instead try it at 5pm after work for a relaxing de-stressing drink. Though, it isn't the most fancy of post-work drinks, but if you want an honest cheap drink with an interestingly fun time...head here!

    3 words: What. The. Frack?!?

Had my bachelorette weekend in SB, and mah ladies planned a night at Wildcat. Here are the highs and low lows of this spot:

+ Awesome location. Within walking distance from our hotel and restaurant.
+ Staff was cool. Very accommodating. We had a table/booth and bottle service was good. Always well stocked.
    - Speaking of that table/booth, it was effin' tiny. Luckily we're all good friends, otherwise it would've been awk-ward. heh.
    - The vibe was.. well.. I don't know. The music was okay. It was definitely music to dance to, bop your head to, and sing your heart out to. But, the flat screen tv's. Okay, let's take a moment here.. The flat screen tv's were displaying some crazy a$$ images and videos. Every now and then I would look up, be mesmerized for two seconds, and then say, What. The. Frack?!? I guess that's part of the fun..?
    - Not that I was scoping out the guys, but it was slim pickings. I don't know why single people looking to mingle would come here. Maybe it's the beer goggles..

Bottom line: I had a great time. It was fun to just dance and let loose. That being said, had I not been full of alcohol and in the company of the bestest girlfriends, I would've had a different experience. That's a truth-fact.

    Def NOT.

This place is by far not a lounge but a sleazy ill designed mini club. It's super tiny & has horrible red lighting which feels like your in well...the red light district. Bartenders have major attitude & lag if your a lady.

I went here for a night out with a bunch of girls on a Bachelorette weekend in SB & damn this place sucked!! At one point there was this group of chicks gettn low in the nastiest possible way surrounded by dudes..imagine a circle of girls...circled by guys...EWW!
Not low class but no class.

For SB where the night life is cool..I was really surprised this place is located here. The inside looks LITERALLY like a 60's diner w/ red lights & okay go-go dancers on the walls & red vinyl booths!!!!!! NEED i say more..

Put this on the list for NEVER AGAIN... =(

    Two very different experiences here.
    1. Late afternoon/early evening, prior to bands/dancing and crowds.  Laid back, dark bar, easy going, cool atmosphere, outdoor patio for smokers.  Seems like a cool "alternative" somewhat divey, hip bar.  Decent prices. Liked it.
    2. Came back next night, later.  CLUBBISH, crowded, and I felt way too old for all the younger hipster dancing college-age types in here.  Saw girls doing some dirty deeds in the bathroom, with the stall door open..what was that all about! (Ducks) Lemme just go back to my seat and try again later...
Sometimes a place will make you happy you've grown up, and that was this place, the second night.  I was happy I wasn't one of the sick, hair-holding in the bathroom, shot-doing, blurred-out people on the dance floor, and that I could walk back to the hotel without wondering where I was.

Anyway, take your chances here, if you're a clubbing 20something, you may love this place.  I like it for earlier and that's about it, otherwise I will need some Excedrin.

I tend to come here on Sundays, which is their queer friendly night, and this is always fun (minus the creepy old dudes, and the icky straight guys). This is by no means a classy joint (regardless of what that dress code outside the door might say) and the diverse crowd comes in various states of dress and undress. Last night, over Labor Day weekend, DJ Hollywood and Gavin Roy (the latter was pretty awesome) were in charge of the music and there was a good mix of the old school R&B, radio-friendly hip hop, and dancey pop-music. Their coordinating videos, the never-ending fog, and the strong drinks, all contributed for the desired effect for my friends on this occasion. The professional dancers were also highly entertaining. I'm thinking of a specific off-beat gentleman who liked jiggling his junk and staring at himself in the mirror. Oh lordy!

Despite my inherent love for this place as the only real gay-friendly bar in SB, there are some major drawbacks. The layout is not conducive to the flow of people, and the tiny hallways where the bathrooms are located are always packed. Occasionally you'll also come across bizarre bouncers who refuse to let people through or into the club in a timely manner without visible cause. A friend of mine came in after waiting at the front of the line for twenty minutes and seeing 20 or so VIPs let in ahead of her, though she repeatedly told the bouncer she was by herself. Not cool.

    BEST DJs IN SANTA BARBARA!

Still giving Wildcat four stars, despite the fact that I couldn't breathe the whole time, it took me 15 minutes to get a drink, and the fact that there was a drunk guy passing out on my roommate on the dance floor, mid-boogie.

    So, that's REALLY saying something.

One of the best Santa Barbara Bars/Clubs. $5 dollar drinks and the place is crowded. I came here on a Saturday night to celebrate my friends birthday and it was a party. The dance floor was popping and the DJ played all the right tunes. From Reggaeton, Lady Gaga, Dr. Dre to Dance music he hit all the right spots.

The place was very crowded though. Lines for the bathroom and lines for the bar. I guess that is how you know the place is popular.  The place definitely has dive feel from the small to the cleanliness, but given the crowd, the music and its prices it makes every thing worth it.

This place is an absolute piece of shit, where do i even start? i guess I'll start by saying that the only reason i give this place 1 star is because it's the least i can rate it. My first bad experience was a few years back when i caught the girl behind the bar pouring well whiskey when i asked for Jameson. I told her that i saw her do it, and her response was , "You drink what i pour you." Well, fuck me, right? anyways, the shots went into the bar mat and i swore this place off for good. or did i?

Every once in awhile, when you get in a large group and go downtown, you go where the crowd goes. Even though i had that previoud negative experience, i reluctantly went back under those circumstances. I was enticed by the advertised $2 vodka specials. After being there for about an hour, and consuming about 10 or so drinks between my girlfriend and I, we closed out our credit card. To our surprise, the bill was over $90. when we informed the bartender that there was a mistake, he frisbeed the card at my girlfriend and said "you don't wanna pay? then don't fuckin pay!" wow, ok, i thought, fuck this guy. Well, my girlfriend, being the more level headed at the time, explained the situation to the manager, who in turn, discovered the mistake and fixed the bill . Everything was rectified, but not without several sneers and shitty looks from the original bartender. Never again, right? wrong.

The reason I signed up for Yelp was after my last experience. I went in with my girlfriend to have 2 beers while waiting for a friend. 2 beers. The cost on my card the next day? an even $75.00!!! After calling the bar, i was lucky enough to reach the owner. His explanation is that they usually pre-authorize the card for $75 but it's reversed in a few days. Standard business practice, he tells me. BULLSHIT.

My advice? Avoid this place like the plague. Their only redeeming quality is their bartender Nancy, who you can also have the pleasure of her stellar drinks at Whiskey Richards (a far superior choice, in my opinion.)

Flashback to an undisclosed number of years ago....see me, younger, less employed, resident of Santa Barbara, more time for rampant barhopping on State St.  I'm crushing a cigarette, walking away from the sidewalk in front of the Wildcat Lounge, strolling to my car, giggling with friends after a long Jager-addled night....when out from the door behind me pours a dozen brawling drunks, punching, pouncing, surrounding me, cracking their heads open on the curb....me screaming like a girl (well, I am a girl), running awkwardly in heels, escaping, then recounting the incident excitedly, "oh-my-god, that was SOOOO crazy--what a night".

Flashforward to the more recent past.....me, respectably employed, L.A. resident in SB for a wedding, wondering if the Kitty is still as good as it ever was....stopping in with the boys, getting a whiskey coke, noting service is still good and pour is still generous, sipping on it in the corner as the boys get involved in a heated discussion with intense locals about current surf conditions, and I survey the scene from behind my cocktail straw.  Up walks a girl, sultry, confident....says to me, "You're hot," and kisses me.....the kiss is lusty, hungry.....then, she pulls away, glances around, whispers, "I've got to go," and with that, disappears....leaves me breathless.

I say to the boys, disbelieving, "Oh my god, did you SEE that?"  The boys turn to me from their surf discussion, interrupted.  "What?" they say.

Yep, the Kitty's still got it.

Yes, I pinched his ass as he walked by, but I couldn't *help* it.  I am not an animal!!  I just act like one every now and then...

Great place to boogie...There was even a guy in a wheel chair getting his groove on next to Donna and me.  The crowd is a mixed bag--a potpourri, if you will-- of different types, different dress styles, and different ages.

Music kicked much ass: 80s, nineties, and now. Drinks were goodly priced.  Did I just say goodly?

I'm just pissed that I lived in SB for 1 year and it took *this* long to find this place. Don't make my mistake--if you like to dance, DO IT.

My personal favorite for dancing in SB!  Wild Cat's bartenders are pretty cool and always manage to get everybody's drink orders filled in a timely fashion.  The sound system in her is pretty good, and it's not pretentious like Tonic.  The patio area it enclosed, but suitable for smoking, drinking, and getting some fresh air.  Lines for the bathroom can be a hassle, but that's to be expected when everyone's enjoying themselves and drinking the night away.

Security here is pretty cool, as in they don't think they're a freakin police officer.  I've only been treated with respect when coming into Wild Cat.  While I don't really care much for go-go dancers, the Wild Cat girls are among the better dancers in SB.  The dancers are far from amateurs.

The shitty kitty makes the yummiest adios.

I came as a visitor to the area with my friend introducing me to her favorite hot spot on the strip. I had so much fun even though I started the night with a pounding headache from a 4-hour drive filled with LA traffic. The headache went away eventually and the fun began. The venue had a large dancefloor, large for a bar/lounge. They also had stages for go go dancers on other nights. My friend and I spontaneously decided to go up and dance to our heart's content. Little to my knowledge then, there was a camera that would project on a plasma screen around the bar. Interesting...

I only stuck with beer that night, so I can't really tell you how great the drinks were. If you are just looking for a good time and a place to dance, Wildcat satisfied my hunger to shake my hips. =)

    Shitty Kitty rocked the house!

I called a few days before and spoke with Bob who was more helpful than a tour guide. He not only told me about his club, but all his competitors as well. He also recommended a few great places for dinner on our visit. Great job buddy! ~

I made reservations for their middle horseshoe table with bottle service for 14. He charged us $180 (cover included) which I though was incredibly reasonable. The servers did an excellent job of keeping our mixers full throughout the night.

The DJ was great, he played enough variety that all 14 girls found a few songs to shake their rumps to. (Pictures to follow). We also were able to get up with the Go Go dancers and make our own show. The bride had a great time and the manager Eric was friendly and very attentive to all 14 intoxicated ladies. The crowd was awesome and diverse, I would definably return if I lived In SB.

I saw Tiffany (you know, THE 80's Tiffany!) at Wildcat Lounge and had a blast. We all donned 80's gear and arrived early for the show. We waited a long time for Tiffany to begin but loved rocking and dancing to all of the 80's tunes playing beforehand. When she came on, it was brief but "I Think We're Alone Now" was everything I could have hoped for and more! We snuck into a VIP area with some friends and oohed and aahed at Tiffany's "talent."

On "normal" nights, the Wildcat Lounge is still fun for grabbing drinks with friends and sometimes dancing. We'd often snatch an outdoor table on the patio and stay a while. This bar appeals to a wide variety of people and especially the slightly older crowd...

P.S. The Wildcat Lounge is also known as the Shitty Kitty!

Affectionately known by locals as the "Shitty Kitty"  this bar turned dance club attracts a truly surprising mix of well-known international DJ's on the weekends.  If you have a favorite DJ, I guarantee you they've been here at least once.

The bar itself is somewhat of an odd layout, where the progression and enlargement of the bar over time is noticeable as you enter each room.  There is a dance floor and an open back patio where smoking seems obligatory.

Be wary and anticipate long lines if you come after eleven.  Fifteen minutes will make all the difference.

While I've been to fancier clubs with more room and better locations, this place will always be my number one bar.  The staff are so friendly and have as much fun as their clients.  I've spent more than a few nights and several months rent at this hidden den of debauchery.

Been here so many times over the years. Final answer? Fuck this place.

It gets hot and stuffy even when it's not crowded. The smoke from the smoke machine makes this worse. The most boring and obvious playlists of mashups make it even worse than that. The drink prices aren't awful, but they sure as shit aren't good.

Granted, Wildcat isn't much different than any of the other bars/clubs in downtown Santa Barbara. But there's something about it that just sucks away any hope of having a fun night. I won't say never again, because when I visit I'm going to go where my crew goes. But after a few minutes I'm sure I'll be trying to talk them into leaving and just going to one their houses to drink.

The Wildcat Lounge was highly recommended by a friend.
After all, this was her old stomping grounds when she performed with her band.
Once we got here, she realized how much this place had changed over the years!
It looks like a strip joint. Dark, neon lighting, mirrors everywhere, booths and go-go dancers.
    The crowd was -- different.
But I paid no mind since I was there for alcoholic beverages...a lot of alcoholic beverages.
We sat outside in a booth. I loved the outside lounge...away from the loud music (I think a mix of hip hop and crappy pop hits were played), skaggy girls and guys with pants half way down their ass.
The company I had completely took me away from the atrocities of the club (ie. obnoxious patrons, wild bartenders lezin' out with other female bartenders).
The waitress we had was actually really cool...she was very attentive and came around frequently to service us.

Being at a bar that is outside my norm was funny...I never realized how pathetic guys are at clubs...hangin out with their bros and scoping every chick that walks by...giving each other the raised eyebrow nod of approval. What, no hi fives? It's all funny to watch when you're sitting in a booth and they're doing this in front of you. Cheers, a-holes!

By the end of the night, from what I can remember, we all started drinking chocolate cake shots and the rest is a blur.

We all remember getting there with the bachelorette party.

    One bloody toe

    One beer soaked jacket

    One drunk bride-to-be

    One round too many

One encounter with the Santa Barbara PoPo

How'd we get home in one piece?

Sketchy and sleazy in the most charming way possible! I like the mix of ages and crowds, all wanting to get on down in the dim red lights.

Of all the platform dancers on State Street, I think Wildcat wins hands down. Well played, Wildcat. Well played.
