The food was fabulous  I got the catfish and my friend got the barbecue chicken.  We were both happy about what we ordered.  My message to the owner would be to please keep the cook because he put his foot in that food.  The decor is really nice too so hat's off to whoever did the decorating.  The band who played last night was really good too.  We did not have to pay a cover charge.  It was a nice little outing and I am sure that I will be back.
Review Source:I was very disappointed in this place but it's typical of new places that caters to the African American genre. Â Let's charge a cover, fry up some fish, and have horrible service. Â A cover should only be charged if your offering note worthy jazz artist not if someone wants to have a glass of wine & catfish. Â
Ordered catfish & received gizzards? Â When I advised that's not what I ordered the waitress turned around & walked away? Â I'm wondering if she thinks I'm telepathic? Â So I wait? Â
Next don't let the title lead you to believe they have wine because it's not a wine bar. Â I ordered a glass of moscato & watched them poor Sutter Homes & charge me $7.00. Â
Waitress comes back with a tray of drinks & spills them all. Oh damn, there she goes leaving again.
Basically horrible service, not a good wine selection & you may never eat. Â Very disappointing. Â They need to fire everyone & start over & decide what they want to be. Â
Ps I never received my food & won't be back.
Booo.
I went here Sunday evening, because I wasn't ready to go home, but I was damn hungry. Some people had told me about this spot, said it was nice, this that and the other.
*smh* thats what I get for listenin' to people.
Its Wednesday, and I waited this long to be sure I wasn't trippin' and that indeed, Wine and Roses sucks. I'm still mad enough about my experience here that yeah, I think I will detail it in the annals of Yelp for all eternity.
First, I get there, and there was a $5 cover, because they were having some "fashion show". If you've been to the club in Denver long enough, you know that "fashion show" ain't nothin but a bunch of local hoodrats prancin' around in the latest ez-mart fashion. Usually. But I paid it anyway, and went on in. I told you, I was hongry!
So, I walk in, and its a clean, decent enough place. Walls painted all in red, black furniture, sparse artwork on the wall, and on this particular night a cover band playing on the stage up front. Phew. No local hoodrats. I sit at the bar, and though it is a full (not packed) house, it takes entirely too long for the bartender to ask me what I want.
When I finally order, and ask for a menu, my Bombay and tonic comes back in a glass thats less than full.. At least make me THINK you've filled my drink up.. and it didn't even taste all that good. I can agree with the other person who said the long islands taste funny.. I didn't have one, but I believe it.
I place an order for Fish, Fries, and Coleslaw. Something quick and easy right? Man, the band played like 5 songs before they finally brought some food out (25-30 minutes for fuckin' fish and fries?! Really?!) and they didn't even bring me mine, I had to watch other people get their food first. Smellin' all good.
Then mine comes, and the bartender sets down in front of me, a plate of Fries.. and Coleslaw. no fish. I just knew they were gon' bring the fish on another plate or something.. nope. After a minute or two, I wave down the slow ass, non-payin' attention bartender.. "Uh, where's my fish?".. She looks at the ticket, like maybe I didn't ask for fish, and she gets this look on her face, like oops. Shows me the ticket, and sho' enough it says FISH, Fries and Coleslaw.
I mean really? A fuckin' half hour, and yo' rude ass for this?! I was so annoyed... I got up and left. Still hungry.
the staff here sucks, they don't pay attention, they don't cater to you or even act like they care about you, and they can't fix a drink worth a damn.
Don't waste your time.
The band was good.. but you can go see them somewhere else.
I love making the drive downtown or elsewhere in the Denver Metro area to find great food. Still I've secretly hoped that more worthy venues would open in the Far Northeast to save me a drive on occasion.
The newly opened Wine and Roses Jazz Supper Club may be the local venue I've been hoping for.
It's a Jazz club that has already started to book acts and has high promise to become a mainstay in the live music community.
On the flip side, as with most new restaurants, they have a few things to iron out. I'd love to see an expanded wine list since "wine" is in the name afterall and maybe some streamlining in areas concerning billing and service.
Their is one area though, where they're batting a thousand and that's the food.
Seriously folks this may be the new fried chicken king in Denver metro. I'm talking huge juicy, perfectly seasoned pieces of chicken.
Slap your mamma perhaps.
The beef brisket is also good; tender and delicious.
My diagnosis is that in a few months, after they get some of the kinks ironed out, it will be a welcome place for the local community as well as to the scores of travelers staying in the hotels nearby.
I have a feeling I'll be adding two stars to this review before it's said and done.
