the wok 'n roll gets four stars not for the food (three star at best) but for the sheer chintz of the place and the fact that it has become my favorite place in the whole world to take my daughter when i visit her in her hometown.
it's a typical story - hungry, no idea where to go, don't want to do a chain, pull out the iphone and fire up yelp - and it leads you somewhere you never ever would have stopped.
the wok 'n roll is good, solid american chinese food (the wonton is especially good!) but it's the ambiance, from the bright colors painted over what was clearly once a fast food joint, to the cheesy menus to the very nice staff that takes great care of you, if you find yourself in evansville, in there really is only one chinese restaurant to go to.
I'm giving the place 5 stars because I generally hate Chinese food and question the cleanliness of most of the restaurants in the area. Â The food here is really good, and much of it is made to order. Â The Vegetable Lo Mein has a nice sauce, sort of a mildly sweet soy sauce, and the order is quite large. Â The vegetable egg rolls are some of the best I've ever eaten, and they are always fried fresh when you order them (and usually still very hot by the time I get home). Â The hot and sour soup is probably my favorite item on the menu, it has a nice combination of spices and just the right amount of heat. Â The service is really good, and they actually take time in packaging your order with sauces and other condiments, instead of just throwing it all in a bag. Â One of my favorite new places in Evansville.
Review Source:I'd been considering if I wanted to go here for a while - just something about drive Thur Chinese just wasn't making my mouth water. I just tried it last week and i was pretty impressed, it might be the best Chinese food for the price, I got general Tao's chicken, rice and lo-main for 3.99 not to shabby. The food was a good portion and the service is great. It's also nice that its a family owned place, makes me feel better about the food quality. I will defiantly eat here sometime soon.
Review Source:The Chicken Lo Mien was just OK. Not nearly as good as the Lo Mien at Jimmy Jengs. Â It was a little too sweet for me and didn't have enough meat and veggies. Maybe that's why it's cheaper than the Lo Mien you get at other Chinese restaurants. The egg rolls where just plain bad; soft and chewy. I think they where the frozen variety and they where probably cooked long before I ordered them.
The employees where all very friendly and helpful. I think my order was ready within 3 minutes and you can't complain about that.
Wok N Roll has a clean fast food atmosphere and I like the idea of a fast food Asian restaurant that delivers, but I'll have to try something different next time I go.
