Ricky's rockin chipotle chicken sandwich is an incredibly delicious guilty pleasure. Employees are great, prices are high, but it's a satisfying meal!

One of the best Delicatessen's that I have ever been to. I was up in Marin for work and stopped by because of all the great reviews I read about Woodlands. Let me say, it is so amazing to find a place that creates awe when you are eating a sandwich. I had a turkey breast sandwich with their homemade chipotle sauces and it was stunning! I love how they make everything so fresh with the meat cut on the spot and the vegetables cut when you order the sandwich. I am so tired of going places that have precut meats and vegetables. The best part about this place is how competitive their prices are. You would have a hard time going anywhere else and finding such a quality sandwich with the price tag associated.

Not only do they serve sandwiches they are filled with other types of foods and treats. They have everything made fresh and ready when you order it.

It also is a full fledged market so you can pick up some groceries while you wait for the sandwich. Last but not least they have a Peet's Coffee stand in the front of the store which is a wonderful thing.

A great pit stop market for cyclists. They have a huge selection of prepared food and also make some crazy sandwiches. The people making the sandwiches are very friendly and provide great service. It's kind of overwhelming, all the different choices. There are some tables outside where you can sit and eat.

It's a horrible place to work.. Really bad management, treat their employees like shit.. They promise you something which never happens.. When you tell them, then they point fingers at each other, oh he was gonna ok it, oh she was gonna take care of it,oh he told me she told me bullshit.. It's definatly not the same. Be aware people.. Not a good employer..

Great place, but are we allowed to give a Yelp review on the folks who shop there?   I'm gonna do it anyway.   I've never seen so many sour-faced people assembled in one location in my entire life.  It's like they're required to walk around with something large and painful stuck you know where.   We're talking nouveau riche, nouveau Marin kinds of people.   Old money is so much nicer than these posers.  Hey, go ahead and look at me in a disapproving manner if you like, Woodlands shoppers...I have confidence and self-esteem!   Okay, about Woodlands itself...awesome wine selection (and wine advice), great selection of cheeses and produce, fairly quick lines and a nice staff.

I go to woodlands for two things, a great deli sandwich and the Chinese Chicken Salad! hands down the best in both categories.

If you're like me, you remember back in the day when Comforts had the best Chinese Chicken Salad, uhhhh! not any more, not by a long shot. I don't want my review to be all Comforts bashing, but its been years since Comforts CCS was worth my hard earned recession dollars!

Only problem at Woodlands Market is, it's so popular that you get long lines; that and the parking can be a struggle at times. I usually park in the back of the lot near the gas station and hoof it all the way across the ocean of expensive sedans and SUV's.

(Warning) Exercise extreme caution when your crossing the lot, beware of motorist on prescription meds, I employ the "I'm invisible to everyone" defense, it's saved my neck a couple of times.

And whats with that one weird j shaped entrance...or is that an exit? It's only one way...not the way you want to go, so you have to loop around to another exit that you don't want, and then you get stuck in the narrow lane because some parent is unloading groceries and the cart is is blocking you but you don't exist so the person keeps unloading their groceries and then baby seat needs adjusting before they can move the cart out of your way... and all you wanted was a sandwich!! but that's another story.

    So lets review the review.

    Best Sando,
    Best Chinese Chicken Salad,
Deli Lines Can be long at times, (But the chunch is worth it and they use the number system!)
    Parking (less than sterling)
Exiting and entering patrons (many on prescription medications zooming through lot (use caution)
Comforts Chinese Chiken Salad (tastes like mush since around 2007)

    Peace

This is the place that I like to treat myself to.

Amazing sandwiches, always fresh produce, fish and meats.
Their Fattoush salad is amazing... And the Chinese Chicken Salad is the best in Marin - yes, even better then Comforts.

One of the best hippie markets around.  This place blows Whole Foods out of the water.   But is it worth dropping all your hard earned cash on groceries?

When I first moved to the neighborhood, I went through a little phase of shopping here for random groceries, coffee, baked goods (the cupcakes are WAY better than homemade.)  One time, I even got breakfast at the restaurant (the tastiest $60 I've ever spent.)

One morning, I logged onto my bank account.  Where did all my money go?  Has someone stolen my identity?   Nope.  I've just spent it all at Woodlands Market.  Damn, if I had only saved my money, maybe I'd be on my way to driving a Mercedes, just like most people who shop here.  Actually, I probably wouldn't..... but lesson learned.  This store is for people who own a Mercedes, and have already paid it off.  If not, then you're probably robbing yourself by shopping here.

I love eating here and buying my groceries here. I have to say that it is really expensive, so its not a place I can shop at regularly. They have great organic produce and a great selection of gluten free options.

Ah, Woodlands... the only supermarket to which I've ever taken out of town friends for sight-seeing.  It charms and amazes with it's beautiful hardwood floors, whimsical pastry selection, enticing prepared foods, 4 different kinds of homemade soup, fresh delicate sushi a high cut above the usual supermarket fare... and the list goes on and on and on.

My three favorite parts of this place are the "beautifying aisle" (think boutique soaps and scrubs and hair products), the front part of the store with all of its high-end, seasonal gifty things (vases, platters, and other things I jones for, but don't need), and a produce section that is pure fruit porn (sensual colors, unusual varieties, and all is available for sampling; just ask).

Most supermarkets subsist on a measly 2 - 3% profit margin.  Woodlands clearly realizes a higher profit by charging more but also by stocking things not routinely found in most markets:  the aforementioned prepared meals as well as specialty items like black truffles and gourmet kettle corn.  Everyone can afford to buy a few prepared meals, a gift or two, and maybe a special astringent, but doing all your grocery shopping here would likely put you into bankruptcy.

Woodlands always seems busy but I've never had to wait in a checkout line more than 2 people deep.  Much like how some people can afford to do their regular grocery shopping here, I imagine this too is magic.

I lived around the corner from Woodlands for a year and a half, and quickly learned that they are best visited for small orders. If you do a full grocery shopping trip here, you may just break your bank.

I developed a routine of coming here for early morning baked goods, and continue to do that from time to time even though I am no longer in the immediate vicinity. It seems that others may share this preference, as their baked goods are frequently close to sold out by midday on the weekends. As you might expect, the scones, donuts, croissants and so on are made fresh every morning, with no layovers.

I haven't been disappointed with their sandwiches, and appreciate the cutely creative touch of adding a chocolate piece tucked inside every made to order sandwich.

Often, this is a great place for people watching in and out of the store. The parking lot is awkwardly designed, and its best to just park on the street (Kent Avenue) and take a deep breath before entering the intensity of this place.

Worst 5.99 premade sandwich ever!  The fococcia bread was stale and soggy.  The tomatoes were drouppie and inedible and pickles equally lifeless to boot! The lettuce was sadly wilted and non well.
I drove off from the market and picked apart the only edible part which was the turkey  WOW, 5.99 for only edible Turkey?
For a Prima Donna Pre Made sandwich for 5.99 this was by far the worst sandwich I have ever picked up on the go.  What makes matters worst, it was the best sandwich I chose from their pre made selection.
There was NO date on the sandwich too!
This had to be one of the WORST ever sandwiches I have ever purchased!  Be reminded that this was one the better ones I chose out of the bunch left over from the weekend!

    Never again

    What a great market!
I love the specialty gift area. The buyer has a great eye.
The market stuff is a bit pricey hence the 4 stars.

As for the new cafe, the breakfast is yum, make sure you get an order of toast.  It is panini style with very fresh butter and jam.

I really hate giving bad reviews -- I like to think that I am very charitable and understanding, as an individual. But...

The good side is very basic and straight-forward: the proximity to College of Marin is convenient, the food is always tasty, they accept debit/credit cards, and you can get cash back here (unlike the stupid Campus Bistro, another rant for another day).

However, I'm afraid the bad side outweighs the good -- and enough to knock a good two to three stars out of my rating. This place is so ridiculously expensive that I actually find myself extremely offended whenever I walk through here. There is unequivocally, undisputedly, absolutely NO reason why the prices need to be marked up this high. Sure, the elite of Ross and Kentfield shop here, but there's little justification for that considering that a lot of the nouveau-riche folks are cheap bastards in regard to basic, daily groceries. No matter your socio-economic status, nobody should have to pay more for something as basic and neccessary to our daily functioning as FOOD and BEVERAGE. We're not being served sandwiches and cookies made from 14kt gold and diamonds, people!

That said - Woodlands will probably lose most of their business from college students the day that Campus Bistro decides to expand and accept electronic funds via credit card. I also hope the elite of Central Marin wake up and realize that they could get cheaper and comparable quality foods at Trader Joes and Mollie Stone's. Prosciutto at TJ's is just as good at Woodlands, so why spend double?

To the owner/manager of Woodlands: Everyone knows you are way too expensive, yet you've done nothing to drop your prices. Shame, shame, shame on you.

Woodslands is a wonderful market that offers are your basic staples as was well some higher end products. Their deli selection is pretty impressive as is their sea food selection. I tried their "North Beach" sandwich which was pretty bomb-grilled ciabatta bread, pepers, parmesan cheese toped with a drizzle of italian dressing. It was delicious, but definitely overpriced at $9. But this is Marin County, most things are overpriced.

We've lived in Marin (Mill Valley) for 9 months now and only just discovered Woodlands Market!  We ate at the restaurant and then meandered the market and had an excellent experience at both.

The deli has excellent service.  The hostess noticed I was pregnant (9mos:) and seated us immediately (although there seemed to be a 5 min wait for tables.  The Asian Chicken salad was excellent and so were the fries....lots of fries!

We bought some fresh fruit and a marinated skirt steak for dinner in the market - the produce was fresh and delicious and the steak was fabulous on the grill that eve.

I am excited to go back to try more.  I almost got the wrap with bacon + avo...next time!

I've found it's not that easy to find great food in Marin (there I said it) and I thought Woodlands Market Deli delivered!!!

This place is really good, though I wonder if it is in anyway related to paradise food because I see a lot of overlap between their products.

Anyway, their produce is great, apples sometimes the size of my head.  Though I don't usually do my major shopping here because I just go here before class once in awhile and its too far from my house to do major shopping.  But they do have frozen raviolis in a ton of different flavors which appear to be homemade. I get those a lot.

Although the coffee place inside is just a peets coffee stand, the customer service is great and the chai super yummy.  The fresh soup is great and the breads very yummy.  I love this place!

I used to be a very good customer, shopping several times a week. Last November 2009, I bought more than  $100 dollars of cold cuts for a football tailgate party. Included in the order was a request for two pounds of rare roast beef cut from a roast I pointed out to the deli employee. The meat was not wrapped in my presence, and to my surprise when it was later opened it was grey, totally unappealing and clearly not from the same roast. All the meat I purchased was consumed except for the two pounds of roast beef, which no one was willing to touch.  It looked like the kind of "mystery meat" we used to be served in my high school cafeteria.

Ok you ask, is that really a reason to boycott this store?  Not at all.  I am boycotting Woodland Market because of the response I got from the store manager and the manager of the Deli when I attempted to return the meat. They first tried to argue with me that there was nothing wrong with the meat. As a fall back, they then offered to punish the deli employee who had cut the meat if I could point the person out to them. At no point did they offer to do the right thing: give me my money back. This exchange was a window into the culture of the store, which seems to inculcate two principals in its management:

    1. The customer is always wrong.
    2. Punish the employees.

We don't take visitors from outside California to Alcatraz - we take them to Woodlands Market. This place is something else. Pricey but worth it.

How many other grocery stores have redwood floors? This one do!

The Deli is amazing. If you have picky friends coming over or a party coming up, get your food from this deli and you will score big time.

Who ever thought of the Day AFTER Thanksgiving?  Obviously NO ONE!  No one, because no business with any substance is open.  The only places open (for the most part) are businesses interested in selling the latestest gizmo to the first five customers in line when the store opens at 3am!   3am???   WTF?

Blue-collar workers like me can't stand in line for the 3am specials.  I actually have to work for a living which means that I have to come back to work on Friday AFTER Thanksgiving.  Why?  I'd like to know.

Why?  Because my employer tells me to and so I do because the paycheck I receive each week helps me to continue in the lifestyle to which I've grown accustomed.

When it was time for lunch today, I had 5 deli's in mind.  Every stinkin' one of them was closed!  What gives them the right to close when I have to work and languish from hunger in the meantime?

After a 45 minute and 17 mile search, I was about ready to give up and go to Safeway (of all places) when I happened across the Woodlands Market in Kentfield.

I can't say Thank You enough!

I walked into this food emporium and was blown away by the selections.

    Thank You!

They have a fromagerie (I made that word up) with hundreds of pounds of mouth-watering cheese.

    Thank You!

They have a delicatessen counter, longer than the Chicago El,  jam-packed with meats, fresh entrees, salads, desserts and every conceivable form of edible delicacies.

    Thank You!

I can't believe the selection of hand-crafted beer!

    Thank You!

The olive bar is vast enough to send Benjamin Netanyahu back to the Israeli Parliment to ask why Woodlands Deli has a better selection than his local Farmer's Agora.

    Thank You!

After I caught my breath, I started inhaling slowly, deeply and then ... I  focused on the deli-sandwiches.

I chose a Roasted Chicken Club Pancetta, with mixed greens, tomato, and basil aioli, on a Rosemary Foccia roll.  WOW!  Sooooo Gooooood!

Their spell-checker needs to learn how to spell aioli.   On the menu, it was spelled alioli.  Thank you that misspellings don't affect the taste!  ;-)

Fab split pea soup! And yes, it was a little overpriced for split pea soup, but whatever. It was fresh, warm, and oh so tasty. Like a knit-by-grandma sweater for your tummy.

Sort of a boutique Whole Foods, Woodlands is only missing that make-your-own salad bar and hot foods section I look for in my WF's alternates. The produce was obviously high quality, they are committed to environmental responsibility, and the customer service was awesome.

Bonus: They even offer wine tasting in their little wine bar. (Friday 5-7, and Saturday 4-6)

I would have to agree with Stacey E.- they could definitely film the Real Housewives of Marin in this parking lot! This could be a plus or minus depending on who you are I suppose... I thought that it made for amazing people watching as my boyfriend and I enjoyed our DELICIOUS victory (we had just spent the past few hours hiking mt tam) over sized deli sandwiches in the shaded outdoor area.

It was a more personable version of Whole Foods.

As a matter of fact I do need six different kinds of capers. You too will find things you never knew you needed here. This tastefully laid out store is full of gourmet, hard to find items for all your Italian/French cooking adventures.  The bakery is stocked with beautiful pastries, fresh bread and cakes. The Peet's coffee stand has real croissants that actually resemble what I ate last time I was in Paris. The cheese and olive areas are also full of temptation and to top it all off a guy in the wine area will ask you if you need help and suggest the perfect pairing for your armload of goodies. I don't do the produce here as it's pricy and not much is Organic.

Parking is tricky at peak times. And there are always a dozen or so aggressive women with well paid plastic surgeons trying to pick a fight over parking stalls. Park outside the lot and walk in to enjoy the real life Desperate Housewives of Ross episode unravel. Good food and entertainment, you can't go wrong here.

Well, it seems that the price thing was talked about ad nauseum.

Everything is good.  And I mean everything.  You want fresh foods?  They got it.  You want pre-cooked/pre-packaged foods?  Got that too.  Are those pre-packaged foods good?  You bet (and they make it there).

You want a good selection of good wines?  Holy moly, they got it.

    Beer?  You bet.

    It's good.  No joke.

It's pretty simple to figure out this place.

Growing up, if I wanted food or groceries, we'd walk over to Safeway.

This place ain't no Safeway. It's a smaller, prettier grocery store, that isn't even called a "grocery store," but instead it is dubbed a 'market' to give it that fresh feel to it, the rich people like to have. This place has some amazing baked goods-bread, pastries and other sweet treats. I had an amazing sandwich made here and all the bottled water costs more than is even acceptable. Awesome. I'll be honest, this is a place where you pay more than you probably want for groceries, but it's so good and such fine quality.

    I dig it.

Yeah, it's pricey.  No sh!t.  It's flanked by two of the most expensive suburbs in the US.  If you are shopping at Woodlands Market, it's because you're either rich or pretending to be.  And if you're not either of those things, you should just pack it up head down SFD to Molly Stone's.
The service at Woodlands can't be beat.  You NEVER have to wait in line there!  Seriously, if I have to wait in line behind even one other shopper I find myself disgruntled.
In the mood for a fruit salad?  Ask anyone in the produce department how the nectarines, apples and bananas are--they'll rinse a few pieces of fruit, whip out a knife and let you try before you buy til the cows come home.  You don't even have to ask to sample--just ask how a particular item is and the guy starts slicing and dicing!

The quality is great.  I love that they allow only better-quality produce into their store.  I rarely wind up with sub-par produce from Woodlands.  I love the olive bar and the sushi is hands down the best grocery store sushi I've ever had.  (Better than a lot of restaurants, too.)  The garlic bread is the tastiest thing I've ever eaten.  It's like a drug for me.
I have to say that the prices of their prepared dinners (the packaged ones in the refrigerated case across from the deli) are really good.  Better than Whole Paycheck, for sure, and not bad for a dinner that I don't have to cook.  The lasagnas are my faves.
I did have one bad experience at Woodlands.  We ordered a cake for a coworker who was moving on to another job.  The cake was supposed to say "Congratulations Phyllis".  First, they gave us the wrong cake althogether.  I brought that back and they gave me the "correct" cake.  It was such a mess!  It said "Congratulations Pyllis".  Plus, the word congratulations didn't fit on the cake--it was trailing off down the right side of the frosting.  I think the bakery has gotten it together since then but I'd suggest checking your cake just in case!

Locally run and owned. Re-inventing itself over the years. Continually offering quality products and prepared meals. Woodlands has become a  institution in Marin, reaching the iconic status of Mt. Tam which serves as a backdrop for the market's location.
The deli presentation alone is impressive and the food inside leaves nothing to be desired.  Check out the signature sandwiches such as "green goddess"  or "Chicken Cesar". The staff here is very accommodating and I have gotten to know a few of them well over the years. If you have the extra pesos and feel so inclined, spring for the air-chilled chicken in the meat department. I discovered it a few weeks ago and love the taste.

How much would it be to roll around in the deli case for 10 minutes?

This is the best market in Marin, hands down. The staff is awesome, they will get you anything you want, anything. The butchers will cut the meat any way you desire, so will the cheese guru. They have a great coffee bar serving Peets (thanks) and Mexican Chocolate. All they need is a Churro stand out front and I will be there every morning.

There are deals to be had here, don't be fooled it is just as easy to spend 50$ on dinner as 10 here.

Mine is a life of duality. One night I will be sitting in a dive bar downing shots of Jameson with a biker who was recently paroled. The next I'll be at a black tie event entertaining clients (no, I'm not a call girl, I work in finance, asshole). One weekend I'll have a houseful of dirty punk rockers staying with me. The next I'll be at Squaw skiing with Olympians and hanging out with football players as part of a fundraiser. One Saturday afternoon I'll be having a bbq in the park with my friends. The next I'll be lounging by the pool at my boss's palatial Marin estate.

The one constant throughout my life is good food (well that, and my sick sense of humor - I don't tone that down for anyone. I recently told my boss's 7 year old daughter, who wouldn't stop playing with her loose tooth, that some boys like girls with no teeth in their mouth. Who wants me to babysit?). And for those Saturday afternoons spent at my boss's house, Woodlands Market comes in quite handy. It's around the corner from his house, the meat and produce are fresh and delicious, and I find the service to be very friendly. It ain't cheap, but it is definitely high quality - better than you find at Whole Foods. And sure, some of the women shopping in there are really bitchy, but wouldn't you be if you looked like you belonged on <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.awfulplasticsurgery.com&s=9d3f2958802da5a6d3c19ca65468a287e4a7c5bde823d89df0f31ba296e1bb67" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.awfulplastics…</a>

My friends have been raving about this market for a long time and rather than hit Whole Foods I decided to give it a try. It was as advertised. The service is top-notch. Though relatively small, they manage to squeeze in all the important things. My wife had to pull me away from the meat counter, because everything looked so good. The fish counter was better than copacetic. The produce area, while small, delivered quite a few organic items all looking in pristine condition. My only qualm is the price tag. It ain't cheap. So be it. If I miss the Farmer's Market and am in the neighborhood, I will be back!
