Hmmm...What do I say about Woody's? Â Well, for a starter, I live in Phoenix, and I've been to great gay bars in LA as well. Â I have mixed emotions about Woody's as I do the rest of Tucson. Â The drinks are cheap and generally strong. Â I had a double Patron shot for four dollars! Â That's impressive! Â The atmosphere is just alright, nothing special...it's just a bar. Â
Check it out if you're looking for a cheap drink!
Quiet, charming gay bar (it was the night before New Years). The crowd of about six was rather diverse (some rough older guys, some Yaqui lesbians and some Latin transgenders). Bartender Andrew was attentive and clearly the central attraction. Space heaters were set up around the bar and pool tables, which was covered by a large tent. Most intriguing was the large WARNING sign outside:
"This is a Gay Establishment. If this offends you, DO NO ENTER!"
I liked this place. Â But I came with a few beers already inside me. Â They had karaoke, which was awesome. Â The bartender back there was very fast in my experience. Â There were lots of interesting people. Â There seemed to be lots of fun areas to hang out. Â We stayed until we got shooed out, then went to late night snack time!
Review Source:Interesting little bar.
The only Tucson bar I was carded at. He almost got excited when he saw my California Driver's License.
Walk inside at 11:00 on a Saturday and the place is - well - quiet.
The bar is long and set up in an L shape with the pool tables off the shorter end of the L.
Above the bar itself are four monitors - two are showing some kind of Lesbian dating fest on Logo (surprise) and one is showing non-stop (edited of course, because this IS Tucson) military models and the other is showing models in general. Plus one for the "military" channel.
We're at 5 stars here so far, not to last much longer however.
Service at the main bar inside was adequate if not a bit slow. The person working the bar that night I think had trouble doing more than 1 task at a time. Several drinks were forgotten, it took several minutes to make change from a 20, etc.
Dinged 1 star. Four stars remain.
Large obnoxious queeny party comes in and gets all the attention of the bartender. Our already mediocre service suffers even more.
Dinged 1 star. Three stars remain.
Decided we should head to the outdoor bar. All the "cabanas" were taken up by straights making out. While I am all for integration, come on folks.
The outside bartender only checked on us once and since we didn't order anything apparently thought it was ok to then ignore us for the duration of the stay.
Dinged one star. Two stars remain.
The DJ outside was decent and not overly annoying. He was also decent on the eyes.
Lucky for you this gains you a star.
Final conclusion: 3 stars. Perhaps I went on an "off" Saturday.
OK to visit, perhaps not until 11:30 - 12.
We left at 12:30 to continue our adventures.
