Zelda's has a great patio right on the beach. I only go there for breakfast, and it is very relaxing in the morning. They have a good breakfast menu, but it is only available Monday - Saturday. If I'm at the beach on Sunday, I go somewhere else, since they only serve Brunch on Sunday's, which is expensive (and no toast, only muffins, which is weird). Later in the day, it gets too crowded for me.
Review Source:Not wanting a paper plate of pizza for lunch, not that there's anything wrong with that, I decided to treat my girls to outdoor seating at Zelda's. Bad choice. I should've had the pizza. Poor service considering the price, flimsy paper cups that barely held the small drinks wer were served, but paid $3.50 for, and Asian slaw served with baja fish tacos. What? The best item ordered were the fries. And who can mess up fries? Shamefully I paid over $70 to feed myself and three young girls. Â The price wouldn't have been an issue with better service, actual glass or even plastic cups, and better, I mean way better food. Don't go. Get the pizza. Read the other reviews. Yikes!
Review Source:Ok now that I see the reviews I do not feel bad. Weird family place with young ladies dressed like they are in the night club at 1am. I personally don't care but there were so many small kids and that was odd to me. So never mind that... Our sampler plate was good. We paid 50 bucks for 3 beers and a sampler. Ok, you are in a tourist town right? But when you pay 50.00 and the waitress keeps asking are you done with your beer and are you ready to go, well that kinda ruins it for me. Seriously we were waiting to see the band come on. So I had a 1/4 of my beer and husband 3/4 of his left and every 5 minutes we were asked if we were done. So we left and went down to street to Fog Bank and bought about 6 beers! Zeldas is literally just lipstick and rouge! Save yourself 50.00 bucks and go to the Thai place next door.
Review Source:Awful.Aside from the great view, this place sucks. The service is unattentive and incredibly http://distracted.it took us 10 minutes to be greeted, we were ignored when we asked for forks and then hand to chase down someone else for our check. The outside menu advertises breakfast AND pancakes but they really only serve brunch and don't have pancakes (which were the reason we settled on this place instead of contuing to search). Our overpriced $15 eggs benedict were mediocre, at best. We won't be back.
Review Source:This visit was very disappointing. I brought my Aunt and Uncle here from out of town. We ordered lobster. The lobsters were full of, and covered with feces. When we asked what the green stuff that was all over our food we were told I don't know. I mentioned that I thought it was poop the waitress said, "No, no we wouldn't serve them with poop on it, I will go ask what it is." She left came back and said, " well it is poop... but people actually prefer it like that." I have had lobster many many times, cooked it at home myself and have never eaten feces with any meal. We sent it back and ordered a chicken sandwich which had a huge bone in it. I am furious! Not only did they have no knowledge on what they were serving, but the food was crap and dangerous, the silverware was dirty. The worst $100 I ever saw spent.
Review Source:I'd give this stink hole a zero, but that's not an option. Â As a local, I'd NEVER eat here. Â This place is only about location. Â Also, don't dare forget your card at the bar at night..... you'll pick it up only to find an extra $50 in whiskey has been charged to you (you don't drink whiskey), and the manager proceeds to tell you that it's your problem. Â Eff this place, and Pam the manager.
Review Source:Went to Zeldas Sunday morning for what we thought would be a nice breakfast at the beach in Capitola. Â What an underwhelming experience. Â
My first warning of trouble to come was being seated directly in front of the men's bathroom door that wouldn't close. Â Between the cold draft and wafting odor of urinal pellets, it didn't set the tone well.
The title of this review should be, "No Toast For You!!" Â They seriously have a 'No Toast' policy for breakfast. Â Really?!? Â No Toast? Â The menu says english muffin comes with the eggs benedict, but you cannot order an english muffin. Â The menu says you can order a sandwich, but you cannot have bread that goes with the sandwich. Â I mean, WTF?
I wanted a simple egg sandwich, the waitress, who was very nice, said no problem, but when she came back 15 minutes later she said for some reason they weren't serving egg sandwiches this morning. Â Again, WTF? Â There wasn't an egg and some bread in the back?
We ended up ordering a plain cheese omelett, but asked for the cheese to be separate because one of our party was lactose intolerant. Â When the bill came, we got charged for one cheesy omelett and an extra slice of cheese. Â WTF?
The good news is that our very apologetic waitress comp'd me my barely chokeable cup of decaf coffee. Â Yea! Â Saved $2! Â (Paid for the extra slice of cheese!!)
To the owners of Zeldas... Â Just because you are about the only breakfast place with a million dollar view in downtown Capitola, don't sit back and rake in the dough, take a few dollars and put it into a second toaster and maybe some updated decor...
NOT going back...
We came here for brunch on a weekday and sat in a sunny window facing the beach. There were almost no other customers there.
Our service was good (constant refills on the coffee, offered refills on our mimosas) but the food was sub-par for how much we paid. For four meals, coffee for each person, and six mimosas total, we paid $100! Yikes!
Maybe this is me not used to ordering mimosas at brunch, but $100 is still way too much for four people first thing in the morning, especially when my meal was so-so huevos rancheros. Nothing special. Instead, I'll go to Cook House down the road any day.
Yelp has 2 separate reviews for this 2 separate dining areas, inside w bar and tvs and far outside deck I prefer.
The deck is great on a sunny day!!
Especially if there is traditional golden cut pieces of calamari fresh from Monterey Bay and so cheap abundant as fishbait,,, with a discounted micro draft beer.
But disappointed with "four pieces" of $18 fish and chips, only got 3 average size pieces ,, and thin brown crust vs traditional golden brown batter.
So try the far separate deck on a sunny day!!
Went twice, once to the Sunday breakfast and once for the their monthly birthday steak dinner. The breakfast was horrible and a waste of time and the dinner was ok. Â We had had a reservation for 2 weeks and when we showed up, the other two in our party weren't there yet, and when our reservation came up, the hostess wouldn't seat us till the whole party was there. Would've been nice to sit and maybe order some appetizers while we waited. Dinner was ok, but the decor was pretty old and looked pretty dingy. Â They definately need new carpet. Â The experience was one that I don't think I'll go "hey, let's go to Zeldas tonight!" Plenty of other choices that I'd pick first.
Review Source:Expectations are everything. It's vey true. But it's when you don't have high expectations and they stil fall short that makes me want to voice my opinion.
I have been to zelda's two or three times in the past. It has been disappointing just about eveytime on several levels including food, service and wait time. The view is good and that is the reason why they are still there. But this time was so bad that I just had to say something. Wait time was twice as long as we were told, one hour instead of 30 minutes. The table was still being wiped down and damp when we were taken to our table. So then the waitress who seemed stressed out due to being busy came over and hastily took our order which was two burgers, three bowls of clam chowder soup due to being foggy and cold, and drinks. we were warned that the kitchen is slow so be patient. So still ok. It was amazing. The food came in like 5 minutes. Then the bar drinks came, only two and one was a beer about 5 minutes later. asked for an extra plate to share some food, had to ask 4 times of three different people. Asked for a glass of water, again of three different people. Finally one waitress form another station brought us one. Still no other drinks. The two kids in our group ordered sodas. Even those took asking 3 or 4 times and they finally arrived.
So finally all we ordered, two burgers, three clam chowder and drinks was all at the table. Halfway through the meal, the waitress asked may I take your plate. I said:" Do you stil see food in my plate?" Then I asked her if she still sees me chewing food. She said "I'm sorry I thought you were done." Never asked if everything is ok. Nothing of the kind. So the meal continued for another 20-30 minutes. The kids finished their meals and she asked if she can bring the check. I wanted to have a cup of coffee after my meal but I said yes, check please. Just couldn't wait to leave.
So in closing, the experience was bad and the food did nothing to make me overlook the bad service as it never has. And all of this for $105. Two burgers, three clam chowder soups, two alcoholic drinks and three sodas for $100. The cheese on the burgers cost extra though. The only thing was the view and even that was mostly covered by the fog. The reason this place keeps on going is the location and the lack of competition. You do what you have to. I love Capitola beach and I wil keep going. But Zelda'a is out. no more.
