There aren't many places in Myrtle that aren't complete tourist traps so 2nd ave is a refreshing addition to the beach scape. Nothing else like this place around. It's new construction right on the water and the view is pretty amazing. They have plenty of beers on tap but I do wish they would get some more obscure brews.
Last time I was there was the first time I had the food. I tried my friends wings and thought they were covered in too much sauce. The Bacon Cheese Fries were baconriffic and cheesylicious... can't go wrong here. I ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp, which were delicious and a good size portion for the price (disclaimer: I think I ate one before taking the photo). I also ordered the Murrel's Mix sandwich, a mix of pulled pork, ham, and salami with mustard and pickles on a sub roll. I was impressed with the sandwich and would order it again. Extra star for the view and being something different to help change the Myrtle Beach stigma.
We go here for breakfast at least twice a month. I always get the french toast and my boyfriend gets the biscuits and gravy. The french toast is orange crusted and so yummy. The sausage gravy is homemade and not some thick white goo like other places. You can tell their fried potatoes are frozen but I am not too concerned. The other stuff makes up for it. We love it.
Review Source:Very nice, modern restaurant with absolutely great views. Â My wife had the oyster po boy and I had the fish tacos for lunch. Â The Ms. said the po boy was okay - the fish tacos were absolutely awesome. Â The best I've ever had.
On an aside, not that you go to a restaurant for this, but the bathroom felt like a high end hotel vs a beach restaurant.
Very nice experience - would definitely return to this place for lunch.
Spent a week in Myrtle Beach for a business trip and found this place to be the best restaurant in town. It wasn't even close. We ate there 4 times over the course of 3 days and each meal was excellent- Filled with flavor and perfectly cooked. The grits with Shrimp were amazing, and all the breakfast specials are out of this world. I would also highly recommend the fisherman's plate. Overall a solid 5 out of 5, not just in Myrtle Beach which has underwhelming food choices, but anywhere else in the US.
Review Source:we ate in the restaurant. the AC was blasting and it was very cold. aside from the clam chowder, our meals were very very average. our waitress seemed miserable and our food took longer than tables that were seated after us. they charge to let you walk on the pier. I feel if you spend that amount of money in the restaurant, they should comp you a pier walk. its a nice view, though. maybe try the open air bar next time.
Review Source:A really great place right on the beach. Very yummy breakfasts and dinner food. Beautiful, breezy ambiance with  a great view of the ocean. The only downsides for my boyfriend and I were:  the upstairs open bar closes at 9pm and the dinner can get somewhat pricey.Having said that, we still feel it's an overall gem in Myrtle Beach. It was the only place we went to multiple times through out our one week stay at the beach.
Review Source:Delicious place to eat!! Very nicely decorated and a simple menu. Service was great, views of the ocean were even better. The only thing I would change is to have a sign out on the boardwalk that shows the place is open. We stood there awhile wondering if it was open or not. Best place we ate.
Review Source:The hubby and I came fishing here and its a totally cool place! Â If I wasnt being so cheap on our vacay we would have grabbed lunch here...next time :)
We paid $25 for everything you need to do some fishing, which is a pretty good deal depending how long you plan on fishing for! Â Plenty of spots and benches and picnic tables for you to fish and relax at! Â
Whoever rang us up was cool..you normally have to either give your DL or $10 deposit for your supplies and he told my hubby, I trust you dont worry about it...fishermen lie, they dont steal...lol! truth! Made my day, that comment alone got them 5 stars.
Free parking there as well! Â And they snacks (ice cream, beverages etc) you can purchase as well!!!
Great place to do some fishing and a beautiful view! Â Oh and yes you do have to pay $1 to walk the pier :)
I decided to try this place out based on the reviews it had on Yelp. Usually I'm not disappointed by Yelp suggestions, but this time around I was. :(
While the view alone helped this rating, the food, not so much. My husband and I both got the crab cakes. Now mind you the evening before I got a crabcake sandwich at a "chain" restaurant at Broadway at the Beach. In comparison the crabcake from the "chain" was better. Yikes, I know. I was surprised by myself too! The crabcakes weren't horrible, but lacked individuality from your run of the mill crabcakes. My husband even commented that the crabcakes we make at home are much better. Which they are.
I will give it to them that the french fries were pretty tasty with what seemed like sea salt sprinkled on them.
The service was great and the view like I said before was great. After leaving the pier my husband saw that there was an Open Air bar upstairs with more affordable fare like sandwiches, burgers and he said he wish he saw that earlier because he would've preferred to have saved the money we spent on the crabcake entrees.
Oh well, maybe we'll try the bar upstairs next time.
In addition to the fantastic ocean views, the food was delicious.  We started with the crab dip; good crab flavor, although no visible crab chunks (something I'm used to in Maryland, but may not be the style here).  I had the stuffed crab special, which was good, with the creamy grits, which were lovely.  My companion had the  shrimp & grits. It's part of the regular menu and it was fabulous.  We had key lime pie for desert, which was also yummy.  Highly recommend!
Review Source:This bar, after searching the MB area for a slightly classy, not too touristy type of place to visit, has become my go-to spot. Â While there are plenty of bars for the tourists,I think this one hits the spot with its fabulous view, relatively cheap drinks (considering the view that goes along with them), live entertainment, and nice staff. Â I can't attest to the food, but service was pretty good and I still can't get over the awesome-ness of that view.
Review Source:This is really a destination bar. They aren't very good with service when they are hammered with people, such as on our last visit after the Myrtle Beach Marathon. It's a disappointment, because we befriended the owner and the staff on previous visits during slower times, only to find them completely ignoring our table when we manage to find a seat during busier times. In their defense, it was the first weekend they had been open since New Years, and they were clearly understaffed and slammed. Still, the service was horrendous, absolutely the WORST I've ever seen - anywhere.
That said, if you come at a "kinder, gentler" time, you will find a nice bar, with fantastic views, and friendly staff. The fireplace is nice, the lounge seats outside are nice. The drinks are good, although they ran out of most of the beers we wanted on our last visit. (See above.)
After the 2012 MB Marathon they were clearly slammed and completely unprepared. During the race they advertised half-price appetizers to all participants with a bib, which was fine except they didn't have the beer or staff to support the promotion. If this had been my first visit, I would have rated them 1 star - max, and I'd never go back. Being that this is our third visit to MB, and our third time visiting the 2nd Ave. Pier with friends, I'm giving them a 3 star rating. Honestly, without such a terrible performance during marathon weekend, I'd rate them a 4+ star place.
The food is okay. It has improved since they opened a couple of years back, but don't order the crab cake. It's a disappointment. Nachos, or their sandwiches are much more successful. I will be back, either for the "MB Mini" in the fall, or the 2013 MB Marathon next February. I hope that 2nd Avenue is ready for the swarm of folks then. They're good people, and they deserve your business.
This place is lovely. Our food was absolutely delicious, well-priced, and the view was outstanding.
Usually pier restaurants are over-priced--this one is not. The restaurant is fresh and clean. Our table was facing the ocean in front of a large picture window on a beautiful Sunday morning. We ate here for breakfast and the food was excellent. We didn't leave with the stuffed greasy feeling, but left pleasantly satisfied.
The staff was extremely nice.
We only wished we found the resturant sooner because there is a fresh, contemporary bar on the top of it. When we come back to Myrtle Beach, we will definately be back.
Been waiting for the season to end so that we could actually get in this place. Â Was a rainy day so we chose to eat in the restaurant. Â Great food, cheap beer what more could I ask for. Â Had a wrap that was the special that was the size of a small baby so had to share with the hubby. Â Had some shrimp appetizer that was just yummy (shrimp and bacon and deep fried?? sign me up!) Excellent service; great views will go back this week!!
Review Source:We just moved to Myrtle beach from Charlotte and have been searching for an eclectic restaurant on the water with good seafood. This is it! Â Great dining on the 2nd floor. The blackened salmon special was fantastic! Â Good kids menu too. Loved the atmosphere and blend of wood and steel decor. After dinner we went upstairs to check out the open air bar -- AWESOME! Â Flat screen tvs playing behind the bar and fun lounging chairs and a live band.... With the ocean view and breeze too! Â This will be our new favorite place to take out of town guests! Â Great for adults and kids too.
Review Source:Nice interior and great views but shockingly over priced frozen drinks ($10/Miami Vice). Â Best bet for food is the fry platter - shrimp, scallops and deviled crab passed the test for me. Their fry batter is delicious with just the right amount of pepper. Coleslaw, Salad and Mashed potato sides were adequate. Â Vegetable medley was over cooked. Â Steer clear of any steak specials - even doused in A1, I swear the beef had a faint liver taste. Â Fry Platter Wins and is worth going back for
Review Source:FINALLY! A contemporary, clean, upscale bar...that is ON the beach in MB!!!
I was in love when I drove by and saw 2nd Ave's new bar/restaurant... enough to start drinking mid-afternoon; by myself. It happens.
What I liked:... funky lime green bar stools, contemporary gas fireplace set in glass mosiac. Chocolate brown resin sofas. Open air feel on 3rd floor... fantastic open breeze and of course... cheap drinks!
Needs improvement: The food for the $$$ is a rip-off... I ordered the crab cake appetizer for $9...there were (3) 50 cent piece sized lumbs on some pieces of romaine. I was not impressed. They were tasty enough; but not enough of them. And nothing on the side...not even a pickle? The $3 onion rings on the other hand were delish and huge! Confusing.
Please note: I didn't eat in the restaurant on the 2nd floor, only the bar on the 3rd floor w/a limited apps menu. Still a kewl little spot w/a fantastic view of the newly cleaned up boardwalk and the big ferris wheel.
As Arnold said, 'I'll be back"....
My friends and I got into quite some trouble at the bar. Hahaha... Great time and fun people. They have a good happy hour too.
I wasn't a big fan of the fact that you have to pay a dollar to go on the pier though.
Good food as well. Don't get the chocolate dessert though. The cheesecake is much better...
