Love this place! Â We came in on our vacation looking for a new cute place for lunch. This place definitely fit the bill.
I had a hard time deciding on what to get since so much on the menu seemed appealing. The lovely waitress helped me out by suggesting the turkey bacon avocado sandwich. I'm glad I went with her suggestion because it was just delicious. Everything tasted fresh and it was fairly large as well.
There were lots of treats to choose from for dessert in the case but I was just too full to try anything. Next time!
Lastly, the service was great and it is a family owned business which is just great.
Will definitely be back!
My 5-stars rating is only for their Lobster BLT sandwich.
Last year I was home and my cousin recommended this sandwich. Â Because I wasn't feeling well I did not have the sandwich to myself but did take a bite from my husband. Â It was delish! Â Last week I return home and was determined to stop by to order this sandwich for myself. Â I ordered 3 sandwiches which took about 20 minutes. Â My husband, friend and I devoured our sandwiches in our rental car parked in front of the restaurant. Â It's so worth the drive to Cohasset for this $17 sandwich. Â Nothing beats it!
Really liked this place. Â Nice, friendly service. Great location and very inviting. I thought it was an order at the counter sort of place given the chalkboard menu. So, it was pleasant surprise when the nice woman handed me some menus and said she'd be outside to take our orders.
Â
I had a sandwich with grilled chicken, cheddar cheese, black bean salsa and avocado. All fabulous ingredient. I guess I would have preferred them on a tortilla wrap than on a crusty french roll though, even though it was a nice quality roll. I also thought the sandwich might come with a side of something, like chips or a pickle. But alas, it was just a sandwich. It was a tasty sandwich though and the chicken was very tender.
My husband had the Caprese salad + grilled chicken. All ingredients looks tasty and fresh. Â He did think it would have been better served on a plate because it was one of those salads that had so much stuff in it that when you try to eat it, things fall out of the bowl onto the table. It also did not come with dressing. Granted, there was pesto sitting on top of the mozzarella but there were a lot of greens with the salad, so it needed something else. He asked for dressing and got a pre-packaged Italian dressing. I thought that was a bit odd. Also, his salad did not come with any sort of side, like a roll or bread.
Those are minor complaints though and all in the all, we were really pleased with this place and will definitely come back, even if the waitress called my baby girl "he". She doesn't have a lot of hair yet and she does look like her father.
Is it mandatory that all Cohasset storefronts are charming as all get out? Look right there - it's so charming, it made me write "as all get out." I need to go wash my hands.
Breakfast and lunch options for those on both sides of the daytime eats coin, and the weekend brunch selection flexes light versions of the blessed union of meals. Just don't expect consistency, as "we're ironing out the final menu," so says the lovely server. Meaning, just because it's listed don't mean they can do it, and just because it ain't, don't mean they cain't. Ya dig?
She went for the signature French toast, and I opted for the 5 South Main breakfast wrap. Please note: there is also a 5 South Main lunch sango, and in these tumultuous go-between times, you may want to specify which of the mirror-monikered foodstuffs you'd prefer. Mine? Three eggs, scrambled, with melted cheddar, avocado and a black bean & corn salsa. A bit drippy, but loaded with the good stuff and painstakingly wrapped to ensure contents in every bite. Breakfast burrito maker, I salute you.
Her French toast? Had a come hither stare and I thought she was ready to leave me for it. One bite and I understood why. It's perfect French toast. Order it.
We got a corn muffin to go because their baked goods basically sat next to our face the entire time (clever placement). Decent, if a bit sweet and very VERY crumbly. The Rice Krispie treat (er, puffed rice square, Trademarkzilla) is almost too big to enjoy. Almost.
Easy pick for a future whatever-meal in the Co. But if I find syrup in our bed, there's gonna be hell to pay.
I really want to like 5 South Main. Great location, good menu, comfortable feel. I just can't get past the poor service. My daughter and I went for breakfast and waited over 35 minutes for our meals once we had ordered. During this time our server never came over to see if we needed anything or to apologize for the wait. My water was empty and was never refilled. My daughter had a hot chocolate that she wanted to drink with her breakfast - by the time it came her drink was cold. The food was quite good, but the very slow service and lack of attention from the staff will make me think twice about going back.
Review Source:There's always that one person you never really noticed. The one who's just always been there, consistent...solid...but a bit forgettable. Your parents probably brought them up every once in awhile, "Why don't you give _____ a chance? He's so...nice."
Â
Then one day Mr. Nice & Reliable throws you for a total loop. Like, walking into your local dive bar and finding that boring nerd from the office killing your favorite Clash song at karaoke. Or seeing your dorky neighbor pull up on his vintage Triumph looking all Steve McQueen. Ok. You have my attention.
I've been to 5 South Main a handful of times. I've been for lunch and for breakfast, always finding their sandwiches and breakfast menu to be tasty but as soon as I was out the door I had no strong memory of the meal. The interior is charming. The location, in downtown Cohasset, is perfect. Â The service is friendly. It's all so...nice.
But this last visit? Total game changer. I like cinnamon. I like sugar. I like butter. I like bread (Ok, I love bread). Â 5 South Main manages to combine these basic crowd pleasers into the all-time best French Toast I have ever had. They use fresh cinnamon bread from a local bakery, generously topping it with cinnamon sugar and sweet butter- making something drool-worthy and so much more than the sum of its' parts. Add maple syrup and I'm pledging my undying love.
This dish was so perfect, so surprisingly good, I'll never deem 5 South Main forgettable again. This is now my absolute first choice for breakfast on the South Shore.
TRIED to have a late breakfast here once with my husband. One other couple was in this tiny restaurant at the time. We sat down in the window seat and were promptly and rudely told we couldn't sit in the window because IT IS FOR PARTIES OF FOUR! Remember there was only one other couple in the place. We asked why not and were told that as soon as we sat there a party of four would come in. We were new in town and got up and left never to return again and have shared our story with anyone who asks about the place. Incredibly rude and most unwelcoming place. I don't know where they get their attitude - downtown Cohasset is largely a dump that thinks they're "all that". Get a clue Cohasset! And shop owners? It might be nice if you picked up all the garbage outside of your establishments once in awhile. If you think places like this are good, you don't get out much.
Review Source:After receiving a message back from Jenn, the owner, from my original yelp post asking us to give it another try we did after months of not going. Â Not much better. Â Tried to order food to go allowing an hour before I wanted to pick up my order. Â The person ordering the phone kept asking Jenn how long it would be before we could pick up our order and I heard a frustrated voice on the other end sighing and saying..."I'm not even going to start lunch until at least 11:15". Â I wanted to pick up my order at 11:30 and I was told to give them until 11:45. Â I called at 10:30!
Love the cupcakes but I'm done with the rest.
Tried hard to like this place. Live real close, thought it would be a regular go to spot when we moved here over 3 years ago.
Visit One - Put my sandwich order in and not my wife's. Forgot about it.
Two - Forgot both our orders! At lease they didn't make us pay for our 2 iced teas.
Three - Gave our sandwiches to the wrong table, and the two water dept guys couldn't of cared less. They too'em and gobbled'em. We had 3 couples come in after us and they all got served. We were amused at this point and wanted to see if they evn noticed...nope. Walked out wiithout paying for our drinks and even being asked after 40 minutes.
Four - After  2 years we tried again. We were ignored for 5 minutes in a retaurant with 5 people in it.
We tried to support this local retaurant. We do all others, but this place is done for us. Funny, the reviews kind of mirror what we hear. Good food but u risk simply atrocious service. Even people who love the place seem to just accept it will happen there. We just got to many bad hands in a row to want to deal with it...good food or not.
5SM is a go to restaurant. First, their breakfast is great. Served Mon-Sat until 11:00, Sunday all day. You really can't go wrong, but pancakes are very large, French toast, and a wide variety of eggs, yogurt, and fruit (great home made granola). Lunch. Great lobster roll. Many salads. Large sandwiches, but no burgers or fries. Friendly service and great atmosphere. It's not large so when busy you might have to be patient.
Review Source:Here is another situation where I really wish Yelp would allow you to give a half star because if available, I'd probably go with 2.5 stars instead of 3.
First impression walking in was that it was a really cute but tiny place - nice decor, chalkboard menu on the wall etc. Â There is a sign that says wait to be seated, so we did, and when someone asked us how many (2) she then gave us this odd look and went over to the cashier's counter and seemed flustered at the idea of having to seat us. There was an open table by the window that she eventually gave us, which could seat 4, so maybe she didn't want us hogging a table for a bigger party.
We had come here because our favorite Hull breakfast place had a long wait so we thought we should try and venture out of town. It came up on my Yelp app as good brunch/breakfast but we found their menu to be very limited for breakfast. I did like how with items like French Toast you could order by the piece, customizing how much you eat. They had a few specials which sounded yummy but we went with the Cinnamon French Toast (as seen reviewed here) and the Cinnamon Roll French Toast, which is a cinnamon roll cut in half, battered and cooked like french toast. I also got some oatmeal with fresh berries.
The Cinnamon Roll French Toast, while tasty, could have been battered more to resemble French Toast, it mostly just seemed like a cinnamon roll cut in half and covered in icing. The batter on the regular cinnamon french toast was much better. Â The oatmeal was actually my favorite part - the berries were fresh and worth the extra money.
The service wasn't bad but it wasn't great - the same woman who was weird to us in the beginning would come over now and again and ask us something but she wasn't our waitress and she would only ask if we needed syrup etc, but if we needed drink refills the other girl brought them.
Their lunch menu looked really good so I'd like to back and try it but as far as breakfast goes, I'll probably just stick to my favorite place closer to home.
Went today for breakfast for the first time. They were out of their signature Cinnamon French Toast and had been for several weeks!! Â The place had 2 other parties, and the service was very slow. My egg breakfast was outstanding and they serve HASH BROWNS which is a nearly extinct item on an American Breakfast menu. Other than the slow service that particular day, the food was awesome
Review Source:If you love breakfast and you haven't been to 5 South Main you're really missing something. Â Located in the middle of the Cohasset Village 5SM offers the rare combination of friendly service and really good food. Â Its a small place, holding perhaps no more than 25 customers at a time. Â And yet, while busy, it never seems over run. Â I can't seem to get enough of this place. Â In fact, I'm headed there right now.
Review Source:Love, love, love this place! My husband and I just stumbled upon this adorable yummy place a few months ago and so happy we did! The food is fresh, unique, and so delicious. Each time we go we try something new. My husband said his turkey club was the BEST he's EVER had, and that means something :) I wish I lived a little closer so I could go more. The decor, atmosphere, and staff are warm and friendly. Can't wait to go back!
Review Source:When I pulled up to 5SM, there was a woman sitting out front. Since I had not been there before I asked her if she thought they might be vegan friendly. Well, lucky for me she was an owner and she steered me not only in the door but to a great lunch, made to order with fresh ingredients. I sat outside at one of their tables enjoying my veggie wrap with black bean salsa. It was really good and a perfect New England day to be caught in a light salt kissed sea breeze as I savored my lunch while watching the Cohasset folks go by. Â I appreciate their fine quality of food and willingness to accommodate my dietary choices. I'll be back (Saying that must be a sacrilege in MA now!) to 5 South Main and their perfect lunch spot.

Ran into this place on a Sat afternoon as I was driving through for work. Â Stopped in to grab a sandwich for lunch and ended up getting the spinach wrap. It tasted amazing and was so big that it could have definitely made two meals.
My server was extremely friendly and when I wasn't sure what to order, she took the time to tell me about the menu. I will definitely be back.
Definitely a cozy little lunch spot. Looked like they had some really good looking deserts too.
Finally...after many starts after many years, Cohasset village finally gets a good breakfast and lunch place. Sorry Atlantica, Mr.Dooley, Cohasset House of Pizza, etc.,etc. This is the real deal. Real fresh. No pretensions. No attitude. No 'townies' upstaging visitors in the attention department. Just good food and nice people to serve it. Go.
Review Source:Great breakfast and lunch spot on Main Street. Â You know Stars Hallow, the fictional New England town in Gilmore Girls? Â Well sitting inside 5 South Main for breakfast any morning makes me feel like I'm in one of those small-town joints for regulars. Â People always bump into friends here at other tables. Â Very kid-friendly, service is pleasant. The only con is that sometimes the wait can be long to get the food you ordered.
Review Source:My wife and I heard about this place and wanted to try it for breakfast last weekend. Â We got there around 1130 and were told they had just stopped serving breakfast. After a deliberation, we decided to stay for lunch and are so glad we did. Â We both started with a cup of tomato basil soup which tasted very frest and not too salty. She got a grilled cheese which was very good, maybe a little too buttery but perfect if you don't mind that. Â I got the 5 South chicken sandwich on a wheat wrap and it was sandwich perfection! All of the cupcakes looked great too but we were too full to try. Â We'll definitely be going back again and again!
Review Source:Wowwwww. Got the 5 South Main St. sandwich that had real high quality chicken beans and other things and the dressing or whatever they used was very good just awesome! Yes pricey at $8 not including tax but compared to Boston thats not much more then most places there but in general it is pricey but the quality is very high. Only other minor complaint is the bread they used was alright but I wish it were warm and fresh maybe made in house or just something to match the inside of the sandwich ingredients quality but still no way I can complain overall. Service was friendly and a bit hmm on the aggressive but still friendly side. It would have been nice had they given eye contact after I gave them my money instead of looking of to the side but no big deal I guess hey the food is what counts. The best part cupcakes wow the amazing amazing chocolate cupcake I know it is the best anywhere. The frosting visually seems at first like they might be shorting you on it but no way my god after you wrap your mouth around it you realize there is enough just the right amount and it tastes great! The cake part is really what made it stand out as a champ! The cake part tasted like the same kind you would get at a very high end restaurant for dessert and trust me I love circe grotto's and concord teacakes cupcakes and even went to a place in mystic ct who were written up in the ny times there pricey but large cupcakes were lower when it came to quality not by a lot but the quality of the cake was noticeably better here. So yes by accident some lady raved how great the cupcakes were when I walked in I looked at them like ehh I donno about that but I checked out the food aruond me it looked high quality so I gave it a try and yes to my suprise the best of the best in a non-cupcake place meaning a non specialized place.
