I'm seriously considering revoking Chicago's Best's review card. I have been to several places they've featured on the show and they've ALL been wack! This place was NO exception. Had the tips. They looked great on TV but they were tough, chewy, greasy and just plain disappointing. It's a wrap.
Review Source:Today, I went into the cash only store asking for a sample. They gave me 2 fries w/a ribtip. Â I ordered ribtips and beef hotlinks. Â The rib tips were THE BEST RIB TIPS I'VE EVER EATEN. Very moist, not alot of fat, and chewable. Â Beef hotlinks are hot (but I love that) and have a LOT of of the red pepper seeds in them so simple palates beware. Â The tips were chewable that I didn't even need floss or a toothpick to get the meat out! Â ABSOLUTELY GREAT...I don't eat pork often, but when I get a hankerin' for them, I want them from 79th street BBQ.
Review Source:I wish I had another set of hands so I can give this place 4 thumbs DOWN!!!! I suggested the mister pick up dinner from here last night after seeing the episode of Chicago's Best that highlighted this joint as having some of the best BBQ on the Southside....yea, ok... Now we, and our stomachs, are regretting we ever stopped at this place. Â We knew something was wrong when we unwrapped the food and there was no 'smoky' BBQ smell. Â The food had no char on it nor was darker in appearance, you know, like real BBQ. Â The sauce was also very thin and instead on sitting on top of the food, it had sunk to the bottom on the tray it was sitting in. Â
I had the turkey hot link, the mister had the pork ribs and he purchased an additional beef rib dinner for us to share. Â Whenever we try a new place we always order multiple things just because if we don't like something, we always have another alternative. Â We also don't want to place judgment on 1 bad dish w/o trying something else that could possibly taste GREAT. Â Not the case w/ this spot. Â My hot links had the texture of a boiled hotdog/polish. Â It was soft and clearly did not look, smell of taste like it came off a grill. The boo and I agreed that the beef ribs tasted more like pot roast and had been cooked in the oven. Â Both sets of ribs also fell off the bone and looked like soft, wet meat that should be in a stew! GROSS, GROSS and more GROSS! Â I could go on and on about how wrong this meat was in appearance, texture and taste. Â So now, the boo-ski had to miss work because his stomach is upset and has been throwing up all morning and I'm at work cramping and bent over my desk. Â Thanks 79th BBQ for the underwhelming food and BUBBLE GUTS! UGH!
I have been here twice and both times were so delightfully tasty and filling. You get so much food its ridiculous. I ordered the Small Hot Link with Mild Sauce...HMMMMM SO GOOD!!!! The food is fresh and hot!!!
Prepare to wait at least 15 to 20 mins the service is OK depending on the day I guess. The first time I went the guy who took my order was charming and funny the second time I encountered a young lady that must have been having a bad day. Overall I was satisfied!!!!
Glad to find this business that used to be on 87th Street. I moved back to Chicago and wanted good barbecue. This is a place not to miss. Incredible turkey drums, great rib tips. The meat is smoky, tender with the appropriate amount of crusting. The hot sauce is VERY hot so get it on the side. Prices range from $5 plus. Limited to no seating so take this great BBQ with you. You won't be disappointed!!!
