Addy's pulls off the air of an old-time, Dutch country inn. It's a fun place to dine and has an attentive staff. The space is dark with wood covered walls and a timbered ceiling. You can easily imagine you are in Europe. The wide selection of European beers helps further the mood. Â The menu is authentic, traditional Dutch cuisine. Â Addy, the owner, is nuts about soup and there is always a hearty one or two among the daily specials. Try the erwtensoep, split pea soup; it's not for vegetarians. Also good is the potato leek soup.
Review Source:I brought my friend here for her birthday, but we must have gotten our signals crossed with the waitress because she only took my order and not my friend's. Â We enjoyed a chat as the waitress went back and forth, but she never did return to take her order, and we kept wondering if this were standard procedure here or if we needed to say something.. Â We waited like what seemed forever for the food to arrive. Â We entered around 8 pm and I got my schnitzel after 9 pm. Â People who came in after us were eating before we were. Â We shared the schnitzel and left, still hungry and confused. Â It was a bizarre experience.
Review Source:Christmas and New Years at Addy's is a special time. The owner strings up all kinds of Christmas lights and it makes the cozy atmosphere that much more inviting. We definitely encourage him to keep it up longer. Very enjoyable time. Not a party bar. Just a great place to sit, relax, gather with your friends and have a beer.
Review Source:I would consider this a hidden gem in downtown. The ambiance at night is definitely luring when walking by the place. The inside is truly comforting and the atmosphere is fitting to it's name. As we were seated, I enjoyed the fact that they were playing classic jazz as their background music. However, sometimes they switch it up to different genre of music, but ambient for sure.
Though it's a dutch restaurant, I find it very odd that they offer vindaloo. But regardless, their food is amazing! Be sure to get their jaegerschinitzel. Hands down, good stuff! This place is a must when exploring Greenville. Forget the usual Ale House, go to Addy's if you want to enjoy a nice meal, beer, and camaraderie!
. Â ADDYS Dutch Cafe in Greenville SC has reopened after renovation. New Menu is awesome. Â It is an unusual downtown gem
He has a great new menu with some awesome food. He has been back open two days and I have gone twice and almost eaten my way through the menu. Indonesian dishes like Rendang and Gulai and some mussels in a provencal broth. I don't think anything is over $10. The Vindaloo is awesome. All the flavors really seen to pop. This is one of the oldest place in downtown Greenville. 17 E. Coffee St
Cool old school vibe.  Makes one feel like he is not in Greenville.  The shnitzel is top notch.  I'm a bit worried  about this place, though.  Servers didn't know much aboutthe menu.  In fact, much of the menu was not available.  Same for the beer list.  I was one of four people in there at 7 on a Wednesday.  Not a good sign.
Review Source:We recently discovered that Wednesday night at Addy's is "schnitzel night"...the one night a week they go through the effort of making schnitzel.
Oh, what a night.
We were there last night (Wednesday, of course), and I came to 2 conclusions:
1. Addy's jaegerschnitzel is quite possibly the best plate of food available in Greenville.
2. In fact, it may just be the perfect plate of food.
Never have I finished a serving of red cabbage...and with my German/Polish background, it's been served to me lots and LOTS of times. I don't know how they do it, but the red cabbage at Addy's is less sweet (my biggest complaint about cabbage, usually) and has more savory elements than what I'm used to. At Addy's, I cleaned my plate...and if there had been more on the plate, I would have finished that, too :)
I really like the atmosphere here. The mustard soup was excellent. Â I also had the Sate but it had way to much sauce for my taste. Â My girlfriend got some cabbage, potatoes and steak that was much better. Â The beer selection is unique for Greenville so if i am in the mood for Belgian it is nice to have a place to go to. Â No real complaints. Â Would recommend!
Review Source:I'd say this is the best place to get a drink downtown. Â Bars downtown are either too crowded or feel like someone lopped the bar off a suburban bar and grill and plopped it on Main Street. Â Well this place is neither. Â I'd walked past it for years without going on, but earlier this month I went in and didn't regret it. Â It has a quaint, laid-back atmosphere. Â Our waitress was incredibly friendly. Â
The beer menu is also great, offering both the cheaper, blander options and a variety of interesting Dutch beers served in interesting (Dutch?) glasses. Â My major quibble is that the only beer on tap is, inexplicably, Guinness. Â I haven't had any main courses, but the slice of chocolate cake I had was delicious, if a bit dry.
The guy "Addy" who owns this place moved to Greenville from the Netherlands like 20 years ago. Â (Quite an interesting character.) Â The scene in downtown Greenville is comparable to some European cities. Â This truly feels like a Belgian Bar. Â FYI: Â Addy will ask you to remove your hat at the door (he says it's to keep the 'rednecks' out). Â
I was working in Greenville with 2 guys from Belgium and we stopped in for a drink every night. Â Even they were impressed with the vibe this place gives off. Â
The best thing about this place is the selection of beer. Â Watch out, the Belgian Beers are very strong, but tasty. Â If you're ever in Greenville, it's worth stopping by Addy's for a beer.
Addy's is still the best little nook in Greenville for a tasty beer and a fine dinner. Â A few steps into the place and you feel like you're in Amsterdam. Â It's a real Dutch pub run by a real dutch guy. It may be Greenville's best kept secret. Every time I take a new group of friends there, they are amazed at the great food and the fact that they have never been there before. If you go and it's your first time, be sure to get the Bahmi. Â You'll find it no place else in town.
Review Source:Okay, so I have to admit I haven't been here in 8 years or so. BUT- I do remember this place as a fun nook in downtown to drink some good beer. If my memory serves me right, it's dark bar filled with a less generic of a crowd you'd find at other bars in downtown Greenville. Don't hold me to this, but def check it out.
