I eat take out from here quite often. Super delicious beef kafta and yummy white sauce - tangy and nicely pairs with the brown rice, which can be overly salty for some. I also enjoy their chapli kebobs, which have the perfect amount of seasoning and heat. My only complaint is that there have been times when the kafta was burnt, ruining the taste. This can be easily fixed with a greater attention to food quality, but overall, great Afghan food.
Note: Avoid ordering the falafels. They were gross.
This was my first experience with Afghan food (which, if you've never had it, might be described as something between Indian and Greek, at least according to what we had here). Overall we really enjoyed the food (though we had just hiked, and would probably have enjoyed anything).
Food: We ordered the kadu (pumpkin), falafel, hummus, borani banjan (fried eggplant), ashuk (leek dumplings), and spinach. Everything was good, though the only real stand-out was the kadu. The pita bread was pretty mediocre as well. The white and hot sauces are both worth a try.
Ambiance: This is really more of a take-out/fast-food place than somewhere you'd come to sit down for a nice meal.
Service: Both the lady behind the counter and our waitress were very kind and patient with our many questions about their dishes (given our unfamiliarity with Afghan food).
We bought the groupon, when we walked in I was a little concerned because the place was empty but when our food came it was SO GOOD! I got the lamb gyro platter, it was delicious. My husband got the Afghan burger which was probably one of the best burgers I have ever had. The prices were also extremely reasonable. I highly recommend!
Review Source:I have eaten Afghan food in an couple of places - one in Horsham, PA (was called Yalda, now closed) and this being the other. I would say that the food in Yalda was superior. I tried the Falafel here and it was disappointing, the Eggplant starter (forget the name) was ok, and the pulau rice was quite good.
Review Source:The place is a little hidden but my wife and I spotted it from the main road. Â We decided to eat there and try the food. Â The Chicken Breast Kebob was amazing, it comes with bread, rice, salad, and some special sauces. Â Very flavorful and friendly owners.
I did go back and do take out once and the chicken was a little dry but probably since I had to wait 20 min to eat it. Â
Would recommend.
My boyfriend and I came here on a weeknight to try it out, based on Yelp reviews. Definitely not a place to go to eat in, like a restaurant, so we decided to do takeout. He had the mixed gyro platter and I got the chicken kebob platter, both with Afghan rice, and we grabbed an order of hummus and pita too.
The guy working the counter was very friendly and our food was cooked to order. Once home, we spread out the goods and tried everything. Hummus was super tasty, fresh, with a generous coating of olive oil. Pita was tasty but a bit dry.
His mixed gyro platter was very good. My chicken kebob platter was tasty, but the chicken was actually a little tough. Seasoned well, and everything tastes good with a mix of the sauces they give you, but drier than I'd hoped. Both platters came with a ridiculous serving of rice, easily 4-5 cups. It was extremely tasty though.
Would definitely come back, but the portion sizes are a bit off and the meats could have been cooked better. Flavors overall were very good, so I'd return and try more. I'd love to try some of the dessert options next time, too!
I'd give it a 3.5 if the option was there, but I kicked it up a half-star because I have high hopes for other menu items.
Love love love this place. Delicious afghan food. Came here for the first time in Ramadan and they took such good care of us that I kept coming back. I always get the chicken kabab platter with kabuli rice and the meat is cooked to perfection. Their fries are great and so are their lamb dishes. This is more fast food afghan- if you want real authentic afghan food try choopan grill down the street but they're very unpredictable- they've been closed the last 3 times I went. Overall, yes.
Review Source:Excellent food. That is all I care about. And, the service is great, the owner/guy at the front desk is great too! We ordered the chapli chicken kebab and chicken qurma. They were as good as they get. Would highly recommend this place for authentic Afghani food. Value for money as well. Do not go in expecting fine dining experience though.
Review Source:I have now visited this spot for some actual meals now and wasn't overly impressed.
The chicken gyro sandwich needed a bit more salt or spice kick to it
The meat kebab had a very strong "lamb flavor" if you know what I mean (some will, some won't... but just know I don't like tasting the lamb-y flavor). It was juicy and tender though.
The chicken was cooked perfectly and was juicy but again the flavor was very off! It wasn't afghan in the way I've ever had it and I have been to many afghani restaurants-- it needs some more spice.
The kabulu pulao didn't have a great flavor either- a bit bland as well.
But nothing that the yoghurt they leave on the table cant fix.
It is a fast-food version of traditional afghani food-- and you get what you pay for.. decent taste, lower price and fast service--- depends on when you want to go but if you're not incredibly in need for great afghan cuisine experience, drop by.. I know their burgers are pretty good as well!
We had a delicious lamb kebab, with very interesting rice, mixed up with raisins. The meat was tender and cooked to perfection. Â We enjoyed a chicken soup with aromatic spices. Â As great as the food was, the service was just as outstanding. Â I hope this new addition to the neighborhood does very well. Â We'll be going back often.
Review Source:I just went to Afghan Kabob tonite with my four year old son and we both loved it. I got him a chicken kabob and it came as four nice juicy pieces (not on a stick to his dismay) but I put them on a skewer when I got home and he devoured them. They were slightly spicy too and he LOVED it. I got the spinach dish and the pumpkin called Kadu and both of them were out of this world. The pumpkin was exceptional and came with a yogurt sauce on top. I will be going back asap. So glad it's so close to my house!
