I really wanted to like this place. I've heard mixed reviews by word of mouth, but thought it was a good place to check out. HOWEVER, our greeting by our "friendly" bartender was "sup?"  Really?  Ok, maybe I misheard or he's being a little too familiar-but no, his attitude was as unfriendly as I have ever experienced in any restaurant/bar/club.  This is not an exclusive night club in Chicago, and I expect friendly service. Especially from a place that is still growing. Also, it took about ten minutes to get my draft beer, which appeared from the back of the kitchen, rather than from the front of the bar where they have  around 15 or so taps.  So I thought an explanation as to why the beer was taking so long and why it came from the back of the kitchen would have been appreciated. So perhaps I'm making my judgment of this place on the basis of one employee(the hostess was pleasant enough), but you'd think management would have caught on to this guy by now-or they hire for looks rather than service.  So sadly probably won't be coming back, but there's a few other choices in good ole Rockford that feels more authentic without the attitude.
Review Source:Came in on a Friday night and it was BUSY. Needless to say we waited a bit for our table but that was not a problem for us.  We come to expect that on a weekend night:)  Great Menu, tasty Tuna tacos, and a perfect dirty martini.  The place looks amazing.  We will definitely  be back very soon.
Review Source:An hour and a half wait? Â No Thanks. Â Especially when we counted 6 open tables and just a hand full of people standing near the bar waiting. Â After waiting 10 minutes and still no seating to the open tables we left. Â Where were all the people waiting?! Â Went down the road to Garretts and their patio is just as great with only a 10 minute wait.
Review Source:Pizzas are great. Large beer and wine selections are also great. What is not great however, is when 10 oz pours are made to look less than because bartenders claim it's in a 16oz fancy glass. Put that fancy glass next to a normal 16oz pint glass, and it's clearly evident that the customer is receiving the short end of the deal. Furthermore, beer in every bar is always topped off with only a small amount of head. Alchemy is a nice bar with a good menu in a nice part of town. Rockford people who have money to spend and likely have some higher expectations really shouldn't feel like they are being cheapened. This isn't a downtown bar afterall. Furthermore, no bar ever charges for a taste of a draft beer so the customer can decide if they like it. Why should Alchemy? Again, you're cheapening the experience. And then, when I the customer challenge the bar manager and ask to have the sample charge removed, he should have the latitude to remove the frivolous charge or not bill it at all. If I am going to be charged, then I should have been told upfront (not when I receive the bill), which would still have been offputting. Finally, to charge $6/$8 for a desert that is merely a shot of esresso with completely melted gelato is ridiculous. I had high hopes for Alchemy and I've been let down. I suspect others have been too. People shouldn't be allowed into the upscale bar/restaurant simply wearing a wifebeater tank top either. The food is great. The drinks are awesome. But the management and subsequently the service is something left to be desired.
