We had a party of 5 women for a friend's belated birthday celebration. Â Less than a 10 mins wait for a table on a Saturday night, wonderful! Â Restaurant was spacious and had a good crowd. Â The menu was extensive, but lacked in a cocktail menu no where to be found. Â Martinis were full of booze, the yummy taste was gone. Â The dishes we ordered were huge for a small price. Â The birthday girl and I started with a goat cheese salad, it was sooooo good. Â I had the Alstar trio sliders with crab cake, bbq pulled pork, and prime rib. Â The last dish was the app sampler. Â We had leftovers, haha. Â All the dishes we ordered I enjoyed to the fullest.
After 10pm, there was a DJ spinning. Â Unfortunately, he was playing house music. Â I'm not against house music, but a variety would have got me dancing. Â I definitely would go back if I'm around the area during dinner time!
I've been here a few times. I always get the Bisque for an appetizer. I tried the Southwest Egg Rolls. They were very tasty! I had the Chicken Florentine. It was also delicious. It was a pretty good sized chicken breast with crab meat covered with mozzerrella cheese over pasta. The portions are good sized. I would be prepared to take a doggy bag home. They don't skimp. Mastori's owns this sports bar. Those that eat at Mastori's know how they get down!
Review Source:I'd like to give this place more starts, i really would. But the experience I had a couple weekends ago was just too much to ignore.
A friend and I went to Alstarz to catch a big NBA game. Since Alstarz is a Sports Bar, we kind of figured that they would be showing the game, or at least, would be cool about putting it on. We were wrong.
We walk in to a pretty crowded place, which is fine because it's a Friday night. After finding a place at the bar we notice two things. 1) the game isn't on and 2) the bar tenders are clearly short staffed on this particular evening. I mean they were running around like crazy, so I felt a little bad. That being said, when I ordered my drink, I kindly asked if it were possible to change the channel from its current INFOMERCIAL to the game. The bartender replied "I don't know where the remote is" and without missing a step, turned around, and walked away.
Obviously, I was kind of annoyed. We came here for one reason and one reason only, to watch this game. And we weren't the only ones. The bar was full of people with their NBA jerseys on, all complaining about the same thing. But okay, calm down, I understand, they're busy and maybe they really don't know where the remote is. After I finished my first drink I asked again if they could please turn the channels, at least one of them, over to the game. This time the bartender ignored me as I sat there dumbfounded.
It took half an hour, and me ASKING TO SPEAK TO THE MANAGER, before they changed the TV's off of the infomercial, which received a huge applause from the other bar goers.
If not for this ridiculous incident and the sheer rudeness of the bar tenders I'd give this place a 3.5
Come for the large quantities of beer. Stay up until they turn into a club.
I only gave this place 3 stars because of they have a great draft selection and the price of the beer. However, I felt that the draft beer was wasted on standard people who rather enjoy bottles of Miller Lite and Blue Moon. I thought the service at the bar was kind of lousy. The balding bartender was more concern with dancing and flirting with female bartenders. This probably made the bartender forget to put in an order. I felt like I was ripped off when I received the southwest egg rolls. For $8 you should get more than 2 medium sized mediocre egg rolls cut in half.
Go here if you want a great selection of craft beer in large mugs for a good price. Be warned - get out before it starts to get douchey. Once those lights go down and the music goes up, you should head on home.
The service is very good, the bartenders are very quick and knowledgeable.
Love the grilled wings (when everywhere else fries them)
Menu is diverse and usually cooked/seasoned just right.
Good amount of TVs for sports watching, although you have to crane your neck a bit to cacth it all.
The raw bar is a nice twist, although I dont eat it.
Overall, solid - try Mastoris diner across the parking lot too!
Service is awful at the bar (with the exception of the rare hardworking bartender). As for food, you would be better off grabbing McDonald's down the street and plate it to look fancy, plus you wouldn't have to wait as long for order. There are better choices within a few miles from this place.
Review Source:I called ahead of time to ensure they had WiFi and NFL Sunday Ticket and found out they had both. Â Upon arrival I was unable to connect to their WiFi though the signal was strong. Â I tried laptop, phone, and ipad but the problem was on their end. Â It was 11:30am on Sunday so I asked if they could reset the router but was informed they were too busy to accommodate my request of pressing a button. Â I went down the street and had a successful day spending money at about establishment.
Review Source:Service was a bit slow, but the food was good and decently priced. Â I was expecting just burgers and fries but their menu was a lot bigger than that. Â I ordered the veggie pasta, which I split with someone else. Â The portion was decently sized, we both got salads and were more than full for the evening.
Review Source:We had the nicest meal and our server Mike was just about the most on the ball waiter I have ever experienced. Â Once we made our choices from the extensive Manu that all looked amazing, all 4 of us enjoyed our cocktails, appetizers, main courses and dessert! Â My only minor nit was the noise level. We really had to talk with force to be heard. Â I would totally recommend and try the seared tuna for sure!
Review Source:HOLY CRAP I LOOOOVE this place. Â We were going to try Mastori's but I couldn't wait the 1/2 hour or would've hurt someone from my hunger, soooo, we walked to Alstarz - what an awesome find! Â EVERY SINGLE ITEM was delish! Â LOVED the nachos appetizer (hardly had to dip - already 'pre made' like TGIF's does, my coffee, my salad and the chicken fajitas. Â My man had a club that looked gourmet that he enjoyed a lot and my kiddies had homemade mac and cheese (yum!) and chicken tenders that were def not junkie as the norm for kids go at your Applebee's, etc. Â The place is huge and roomy w/ TV's galore - even a funky one enclosed behind long glass in the powder room! Â Next time we'll do outdoors w/ the fire pit fo sho! Â Can't wait to go back and try something else and maybe even dessert - the selections sounded wonderful - yum yum!
Review Source:We eat here every 4 months or so, so we are far from regulars but I know enough to write a review:
Pros: kid friendly, very extensive menu with all types of cuisines (something for everyone), food is consistently good but not outstanding, never a wait because it is a huge place, very clean, new and comfortable, TVs everywhere which makes hubby happy (me, I could care less)
Cons: expensive for moderately above average food
I like the place, but it seems to have an identity crisis. It's a sports bar -- but with nice furniture and a far-reaching menu of high-grade dinner options. It then becomes a dance club some nights -- with a DJ taking over the space of the large wide-screen -- while games are still playing. I don't get it. Still, good beer, good food, a bevy of TVs and a fire pit make it an excellent option.
Review Source:The food here is decent and the price is great. On Sundays they have a nice buffet with tons of items all for only $21.95 on Easter and I think around $16 on other Sundays. I would have given this place a 4 stars for the food and price but here is the reason for the 2 stars:
1. This place is not the cleanest. There were food falling off the serving tray and no waiters bothered to clean it.
2. The service is HORRIBLE. My table was basically ignored the whole time and we had to bus our own plates. The waitress never attended to my table unless I called for her attention or unless it was time for the bill. This may be due to the 18% added gratuity, with this automatic gratuity, I think they could care less about giving better service since gratuity is there anyways. I would have not paid the 18% added gratuity but I was too lazy to ask for the manager and etc.... Also the guy at the pasta station was saying very loudly, nice, and clear "I only had $1 in the tip jar. No one is giving me tips", while people were in line at the pasta station. I mean is that professional?
3. I made reservations on Easter and when I showed up, they only had the bar and outdoors available. I mean, what's the point of making a reservation if you are not going to get tables?
Overall, decent food with good prices but HORRIBLE service. I will not come back.
I've been here for luncheons, dinner, happy hour and even work Christmas parties. Â The reason for so many visits? Â There's not a whole lot to choose from if you're looking for a restaurant in the local vicinity with both decent food/drinks and appropriate space to host a lot of people.
Pros:
- Huge menu selection of good food, including appetizers, salads, seafood, steaks, pizza, pasta, burgers and sandwiches.
- Restaurant is very large, including a sizable bar serving a variety of beers and mixed drinks.
- Cool and relaxed atmosphere with plenty of TVs for sporting events. Â The outside bar is a great place to relax when the weather is nice...even includes a gas fire-pit for chilly evenings.
Cons:
- Like it's neighbor across the parking lot, Mastori's (same owners), prices are a bit inflated, at least for the area.
- Service can be horrendous at times, especially at the bar tables or during group functions, which is probably due to periodic under-staffing.
Weird:
- Surprisingly, on more than one occasion they've ran out of various draft selections at the bar. Â Maybe just bad timing on my part, but odd nonetheless.
- You can order chicken wings, but they might come served on rice or cucumbers. Huh?
Although it's classified a "sports bar," I would describe it more as a "sports bar that tries a little too hard." Â But, it's about as good as you're going to get around the Bordentown area.
This is for the so called New Orleans style Jazz brunch. Me thinks not!! No kinda way New Orleans not even an New Orleans offering on the brunch buffet. I was extremely disappointed as I do not know why the call it New Orleans Jazz brunch and there were not a single New Orleans dish. It was typical brunch buffet and the majority of the stuff was cold. I was the first one there as soon as the brunch started so it should have still been hot. And thanks for the mandatory gratuity that you don't advertise either. Don't bother with this just order off the menu or get something for the chef to make for you. He made me a great pesto pasta dish that was the best thing I had there that morning. He gets 5 stars!!!
Review Source:Here's the deal: the food is actually pretty good. Â They've got a really wide selection of menu items and everything is really tasty. Â The decor is cool too. Â I've only been there a couple of times and it wasn't too crowded which is a good thing. Â Perhaps it gets full for Eagles games (although they're a lame team, all of my fellow locals are sucka Eagles fans). Â They've got a decent selection of beers on tap as well as a respectable variety of specialty drinks: everything from upscale martinis to girly drinks. Â The only downside is the slow service. Â Not sure if it was due to the kitchen staff, our waiter, or both. Â That having been said, I'll be back.
Review Source:In my opinion, the quality of the food at AlStarz has continued to lessen each time we were there to the point that we will not go anymore unless someone or a group is really hell bent on going. Â Presentations were always good but freshness of breads, rolls, etc. are never good. The once quality meats are now of lower grades.
And service, Service is now very bad. Â There were times in the past that it was touch and go at the bar but now you may have to wait 10 min. to get a refill and only then because you are yelling to the barmaid who is ignoring you while having long chats with friends on the other side. I have seen this all to often.
AlStarz is a great place as far as ambiance. A truly beautiful upscale sports bar setting. Â That's where it ends. Â They serve the main course while you are in the middle of your soup or salad. They have no regard to timing your plates. Â If we wanted a fast food restaurant we would go to McDonald's. At least the rolls would be fresh.
After deciding not to wait in a huge line for Mastori's, we ventured across the lot and to Alstarz. Wait service was a bit slow and a bit too aggressive. I got the Cuban Sandwich and the bottom half of the sandwich was horribly greasy and was a complete mess. Truffled fries weren't so truffled. Not really my speed there - check it out for the drinks and TVs for sports.
Review Source:Great atmosphere, and a great place to watch a ball game. Â However, the entree food is just so so. Â Although our server was friendly and attentive, the kitchen was moving in low gear. Â While we were waiting between our appetize and main courses, the manager stopped by to ask how everything was. Â We told him that we were still waiting for our food. Â He gave us the stock answer (I hate this!)...your order is next. Â No it wasn't, and there is no need to lie.
My prime rib was tough and tasteless. Â The chef came out to inquire about the food. Â When I told him about my mediocre prime rib, he shrugged but did not offer to do anything about it.
Note to Alstartz Management: Â Don't smile and give disingenuine lip service to your customers. Â If you are going to take the time to ask about the experience or food, you should listen to the answers and respond appropriately.
This is a fine example of a bar that has no idea what it wants to be. Â Somewhere between upscale bar, sports bar, nightclub, and family restaurant...it does nothing horribly, but also it does nothing well. Â For Sunday during the day, it is a great place to come and watch the NFL games. They have good apps, and usually beer and food specals. Â If you plan on seeing a game at night...well good luck. We came to see a big Monday Night football game only to find the bar empty. Â The biggest TV had a reality show on...no idea why. The bartender told us just after half time that it was last call, and they'd be closing before the game ended. Huh? Apparently they weren't making enough money off of the people at the bar, so it wasn't worth staying open. She actually told us this. Now I know why the bar was so dead. You market yourself as an upscale sports bar, then can't even stay open until the biggest game of the week is over? Â The game probably ended around 11:30, so I really don't think that is too late for a bar...no matter how dead it is. Â I don't know who is running this place, but I would expect it to not last too much longer. Â It really is a nice place, with a great setup,a lot of room, and perfect location. Â But it just fails on sooo many levels...even the food is sub-par for what they charge and not much selection of good beer.
Review Source:Simply put, I think its just "Meh". Â They try and make it a "fancy" sports bar. Â While its a great place to watch the game, and gorgeous inside, the food is overpriced, the service is so-so, and the menu is not your typical sports bar. Â This would do better in NYC then it would in a small suburb.
Review Source:Disclaimer: I am only writing about the bar after 11pm for dancing and drinking
3.5 I came here a few times with my friends. Living in this area, i havent found too many places to go dancing, but i enjoy coming here. the music is good and the drinks are (usually) strong. a little pricey..but whatevs. out of the five times i've been here, it has only been packed once. i've only been here on friday nights, so maybe the crowd is different on other nights..not sure. decor is nice..overall a cool spot to hang out with a group of friends and to meet new people in the area
I guess the large bar and tvs make this a sports bar but I would call it a casual date spot where you can keep one eye on your date and one on the game. It's way more upscale than the traditional sports bar. More expensive too but with cost comes good food. A lot of foods you wouldn't find at a sports bar. It has a niche as an upscale restaurant with sports.
Review Source:Went on a Sunday to watch the Yankees game just after 4pm for 1/2 off wine and learned they also had 1/2 off pitchers of sangria ($8) - red or white but the white is made with rose. We tried the red and it was OK, but no fruit to be found : ( Â Munched on the nachos which were good. Done a bit differently, as all of the goods are placed on each chip which is cool cause this eliminates fighting for the good bite of cheese. Next up was a bottle of pino grigio which was OK, a little too dry for me but again, half price! We split one of the burgers with fries which was tasty and called it a day. Big plus was the multiple TVs on the patio!
Review Source:My cousin took me (her out-of-town guest) here on a warm summer Saturday evening. We started with a few cocktails on the patio, which were amazingly refreshing and potent. She had told me that the portion sizes were gigantic, so we split a few appetizers:
-Grilled brie with a papaya fruit chutney and granny smith apple slices, served with pita bread and gourmet crackers (5 stars!)
-Two crabcakes (so perfectly soft) served with remoulade, tomato bruschetta and balsamic reduction (5 stars!)
-Crispy stuffed avocado rolls, stuffed with crabmeat, served with a mixed green salad and a lime remoulade (4 stars)
Our server, Tim, was super friendly and patient as we sat an enjoyed each other's company for nearly four hours. If one of my teams was playing that night, this would have been a great spot to catch the game, with all the high-def TVs.
Later inside, music was blasting and lights were flashing, like the restaurant was attempting to be a club, which I found a bit odd since the feel of the place was more family-friendly.
If my cousin wasn't moving to northern Jersey, I would definitely want to come back here. It's a great complement to Mastoris across the parking lot.
Good space inside and outside-check. TVs everywhere-check. A large variety of beers on tap and bottle-check. Great food-check. And even more importantly, good service even when its more crowded than a Jonas Brothers concert (I can't believe I just used them as a comparative-ew). But seriously, this place has it together for a "sports bar." However, it is so much more. The food is clearly worthy of some nice praise. The flavor combinations are great for beer (salty!) and their desserts are delicious (sweet!). This place would be my heaven if I was a beer guzzling god...
Review Source:Went last night with a party of 11 and had a good meal but the only thing that makes it a sports bar is the numerous TVs. We were seated inside but they have a very nice, partially covered patio area with  a small bar. the inside bar is large and was pretty crowded.
Food is good and the selection impressive. We had a variety of appetizers  (Asian Garden Salad, Nachos, Coconut Shrimp and Soups) and they were thoroughly enjoyed.
The entrees and sandwiches ordered were all very good (my bacon cheeseburger was huge) with some leftovers taken away.
All in all, not a bad place for a meal. The decor is very nice, but if they want to be called a sports bar they need some local color from NY, Philly and Trenton.
3.5 stars
Sports Pub does not do this place justice. It is more of a restaurant/bar. Very open inside with plasma TVs all around. Has a really good atmosphere for going to watch the game or just having a few drinks with some friends. The bar area is well set up and never feels overly crowded. The food is decent but nothing to really write home about. However, their prices are rather high compared to the food you get. Beer selection is plentiful, but just like the food it is priced considerably high. I have never seen any great specials there besides on domestic light beers (Bud, Miller, etc.) which is not what I personally consider a special. Basically, if you have some extra cash and want to hang out in a place that looks neat and has some sick TVs, go to Alstarz.
The food here for a sports bar is very high quality. The burgers are huge, thick and juicy, love emm.. I especially like the Cesar salad dressing, being a long time Cesar dressing maker myself, I have to say this is the best dressing I ever had. It is creamy with fresh garlic in it, and has a good mixture of flavors of lemon and Anchovie where nothing overpowers, however you will stink later on, so make sure you and your significant other both share it. I even dip the french fries in the dressing. We have never had a bad meal there.
