My wife and I, and some friends, went on a Friday night to see a band. The band was so loud that it made ordering food and drink a real hassle. They were rock concert loud and it was very uncomfortable. Owners and managers must be aware of this, and take responsibility for managing the environment. There is a difference between the expectation of music at a bar and music at an arena.
We did manage to order, however. I asked for a burger cooked medium, and my wife had a chicken sandwich. A friend with us also ordered a burger. The hamburgers were well and dry. The chicken sandwich was made of overcooked chicken, possibly just reheated, previously cooked chicken. All of our meals were served with soggy fries in very unequal portions. And the Guinness was not good.
The noise made it impractical to explain any dissatisfaction. Appletinis had not put any effort into doing anything correctly so I expect my complaints would not have warranted any consideration.
My wife and I went for dinner last weekend and were so disappointed. We have heard such good things about this place and had high hopes. Unfortunately, they failed to live up to our expectations. We started off with some garlic parm wings which were just caked in chopped garlic (not fresh either, like from a jar at chopper) that was SO overpowering I was tasting it the next day. Overkill on garlic is never a good recipe. The wings themselves were decent, but the caoting was way over the top.
I had a hot corned beef sandwich and the portion was a bit small...but for the price I couldn't complain. The meat in my sandwich was rather grey instead of pink and smelled like old feet...took two bites and pushed it aside....I got the sweet potato fries for a side and they were very good. Wife had an asian chicken salad which was ok, but the lettuce was a bit past it's prime...just sort of Meh!
The service was a bit lacking as it took too long to be greeted and our server didn't even ask why I took 1 bite of my sandwich and refused to wrap it to take home. Note to waitstaff everywhere....If people do't eat ANY of their food, and dont want to take the leftovers..there is something wrong! But she was young and relatively inattentive so we didn't bother to give her unsolicited feedback.
I understand there has been a change in ownership, it would appear to not be for the better.
Too many places around to try this place again.
Stopped in to spend some quality afternoon time over drinks and apps with a friend. Â A cafe it is not. Â A bar with lots of space in the late afternoon it is.
A Sour Appletini ($7.50) pleased my friend while I had a pint of Sam Adams ($3.75). Â An order of 10 Wings ($6.99) were strong on the vinegar flavor. Â OK, but not my preference. Â Calamari ($9.99) was a very plentiful portion and I don't think we finished it. Â Again it was nothing to rave about or rush back for.
A pint of Guinness ($4.50) and a Margarita ($6.50) on the rocks rounded out our afternoon relaxation. Â Service was good, not over bearing or intrusive during a quiet afternoon.
Probably 2 1/2, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since we didn't put them through the full test.
Maybe I should have gotten tanked on appletinis so I could have enjoyed the band and people watching. Â There were a lot of 40-50 year olds dressed as hair band groupies and I swear that Rob Zombie himself was there. Â I had to be really careful, a boozy looking 50-ish woman sat down next to me and was rollicking on her bar stool to the tunes and drinking what appeared to be one of those surprisingly buzz inducing purple beverages in a cocktail glass...she started talking to me...it was a close call and I narrowly avoided making a BFF for the rest of the evening. Â
The cover band was just too damn loud. Â Seriously, bar owners, people go to bars because they want to socialize not have their eardrums blown out by a passable 80s and 90s cover band. Â The amp does not need to be turned up to 11. Â
The bathroom was delightful; it smelled like dryer sheets and the floor wasn't wet. Â
Despite the lovely bathroom, I don't think I will actively seek out this place.
Driving home from Saratoga Springs yesterday, we decided to stop for a late afternoon bite in Albany having never been there before. Â After reading some of the reviews on Yelp, and because we were in the neighborhood already, we decided to try this place out. Â Overall we were pleased. Â We decided to sit at the bar. Â The bartenders were friendly and service was good. Â We ordered the white pizza and the spinach & artichoke dip. Â Both were very good! Â In particular, I think the homemade tortilla chips were fantastic - not greasy, nice and crispy, and substantial enough to be good vessels for the dip. Â The dip itself was some of the best I've ever had - seriously. Â Reasonably priced food and drinks, and happy hour began at 4, also. Â The clientele seemed like lots of regulars who knew each other and the bartenders by name, which I take as a good sign.
The only negatives: Â the lime slice in my drink was not fresh (you know how the outside of the lime turns kind of grey-green? - yep), and there was a slight musty smell at the bar area, perhaps coming from the floor. Â Aside from that I would have given it a higher rating.
Good, reasonably priced bar food, fairly good drink specials, and a confusing name.
I like Appletini's due to its proximity to my neighborhood; if not for that, it probably wouldn't have occurred to me to stop in, given the name and the sign (which is as bright and frou-frou as the name).
I'm glad I gave it a chance, though, because it's a nice, standard neighborhood local bar, where people know the bartenders by name and gather to hang out with old high school buddies.
Food: cheap, good, and a LOT of it. It's good, not awfully greasy bar food, done better than you'd expect. Their appetizer platter has something for everyone, plus some of the best BBQ ribs in town, which is a happy surprise.
Drinks: As you'd expect from the name, they have lots of specialty martini drink specials. That said, they also have plenty of beers on tap and bottles, and the prices are on the low side of normal.
Overall, great place for lunch, dinner, or a night out with friends.
I've generally had consistently good food and service at Appletinis.
My husband first dragged me here after he'd grabbed a quickie lunch and enjoyed it. I was skeptical since it's named "Appletinis" and wasn't really expecting much. I was thinking it was more like Chilis or Applebees since I've seen the Sysco truck deliver their food every now and then.
But they're doing something right in the kitchen - I prefer their sandwiches over other dishes, but they do seafood surprisingly well (whoever does this, you get, like, 10million stars). Fries are well cooked and not greasy.
Oddly enough I haven't had an appletini here, but now I think I know my mission on my next trip.
Service has always been just fine - not too in-your-face and helpful.
The space is huge - I think they do karaoke or live music at nights/weekends, but I've generally been there on off hours. So it wouldn't be too bad for large fun-seeking groups for drinks or for a lunch date for office workers looking for lurve.
So basically, this isn't just a chain knock-off. They've got some good food and they look like a fun time to grab a few drinks.
We have been going to Appletini's for a few years now. Â I can honestly say we have NEVER had a bad meal there! Â Everything on the menu has been fantastic. Â We are particularly partial to their individual pizzas and the seafood salad (a very large salad topped with grilled scallops, shrimp, fresh mozzarella balls, artichokes and roasted red peppers). Â They are known for their mixed drinks, but we're beer drinkers and they have some good beers on tap too.
Service has always been good and they have a private back room for meetings and/or parties.
This review is based on weekday lunch.
After running some errands in Colonie, I made a lunch stop at Appletinis Cafe since I wanted a simple lunch of pub fare. The name of this restaurant and bar fits the bill since they offer several varieties of appletinis, martinis, and cocktails including Granny Smith and Red Candy Appletinis and more. When I arrived here, it was seat yourself since the place had few customers at the bar and seated at regular tables in the front corner near the windows. There are also high top tables and a small dance floor. There are a few HDTVs at and around the bar area and an Internet jukebox. Quick Draw is offered. Beer drink specials are offered during football games and it's open mic night on Thursdays (8PM-12AM).
I sat myself right next to the window for some natural lighting. No alcohol for me today, so I got a Diet Pepsi ($1.99) while I perused the menu. The menu offers plenty of pub fare including appetizers, personal pizzas, soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, fajitas, steaks, chicken, ribs, seafood, Italian pasta dishes, $5.99 kids menu (12 & under), and desserts (fried ice cream, cakes, brownie sundae, apple enchilada, $4.99 each). The prices are moderate, sandwiches/burgers priced $5.99-$7.99 and dinner entrees (served with soup or salad) most priced $10.99-$18.99. The sandwiches/wraps/burgers come with homemade chips & pickle, $1 extra for French fries, $2 extra for sweet potato fries or onion peels.
I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich ($6.99) which was a very generous portion juicy pork smothered in mild BBQ sauce piled high on a soft kaiser roll. The homemade chips were very crispy. The service was pretty good and attentive. The food came out in under 15 minutes and I was given a free refill on Diet Pepsi. The server kept calling me "honey" since I was dining solo. At least I was not called "young man."
