Some of my favorite dinning experiences are here based on the ambiance and view. The food is always satisfying and fresh (their very own lobster boat "Diana Too" is docked in the harbor in view of the restaurant).
The sweeping view is of Cohasset harbor with a thin strip of Scituate in the distance. Rain, shine or even snow having an elegant dinner cantilevered over the harbor is always amazing.
I recently tried the Paella which was excellent--no skimping on seafood or the portion. The "Diana Too salad" with fresh lobster is consistently good and their Bloody Mary is one of the best I've had. The brunch here is an epic feast that would make a Roman proud; complete with a chocolate fountain and anything else you could desire.
The negative: it pains me to not give Atlantic the full 5 stars but lately I've noticed the interior seems to be showing its age: some stained chairs with fraying fabric. The service doesn't seem as attentive as it once was either. Â I believe the restaurant is for sale and has been for a few years, it's possible maintenance has slipped as a result. Â A renovation isn't necessary but would put Atlantica back on top.
Definitely recommend though
My sister- in -law and her husband took my husband out for his birthday. They were all satisfied with their meals. (3 stars for their meals...1 star for mine) Being a vegan I was surprised to see cheese on my pasta, after I told waitress that I wanted a vegan meal...scampi meal without butter and shrimp. My meal came out...covered with cheese. There was no cheese even mentioned on the menu. Of course I did not want to return my dinner because we were there for a celebration which my in laws were treating us. Kind of picked around it. Ate almost none of it. Chef needs to educate himself the difference between vegetarian and vegan meals.
Review Source:We recently had our rehearsal dinner here and overall it was a great experience with just a few minor things to complain about. Â Michelle, the coordinator for events, is great to work with and was very helpful to my mother in law throughout the process of planning and executing the dinner. Â She is very friendly and was there that evening making sure everything went as planned.
Overall, the food was very good that evening, with the only thing we heard negative feedback on was the Potato Leek soup - which most said was bland to the point no one could tell what it was supposed to be. Â We had a Haddock and a Sirloin entree, both of which were delicious and the sirloin was huge! Â
The service was generally pretty good, although during the dessert service my husband I were the last to be served (and actually, they had served everyone at our table BUT us and had moved on to other tables) and my mother in law had to say to the waitstaff "you forgot the bride and groom," which wouldn't have been a huge deal but we were at a like a "center table" and people had given speeches and pointed at us and there were photos of us all over the place so I think it was fairly obvious who we were. Â After dinner we were told to clear out of our room but that we could go in to the bar area, but not much longer after the bartender told us he was closing the bar and was quite rude to some of our family in the process. Â My husband's uncle didn't like that so he sassed him right back and we were able to get a round of drinks but they were still trying to rush us out, which I didn't understand why because it wasn't late (10pm on a Saturday night) and they had a wedding in the other room wrapping up and you'd assume many of those people would come out to the bar after as well so I don't know what the big deal was. Â And, even still, you don't have to be completely rude to someone if you are closing the bar and this guy was quite the DB so I had to laugh when Uncle P from New Jersey sassed him back and shut him up.
Still a fan, but take note that the staff could use a little work.
Atlantica is a good spot in Cohasset. I frequently visit the Bar and would rate that 5 stars. I recommend a bloody mary extra horse radish or a dirty martini- both with blue cheese stuffed olives, yum! There is a good selection of food and the Mongolian tenders are delish- it just seems like every year the portion gets smaller and the price goes up. You truly cannot beat the location and I know I will be back over and over again.
Review Source:Went for the first time and was so impressed. Â My husband and I went on a Saturday night and used a Groupon. Â Was very happy that I made a reservation as the restaurant filled up quickly. Â
The restaurant was beautiful, I guess they do a lot of weddings there and I can see why, beautiful spot. Â Soft colors with nautical (but not tacky) decor. Â We were seated right by the window looking out onto the water, but being night time no real view to be had....I bet in the summer it's wonderful.
Our waiter was prompt and attentive but not "in your face". Â The food was wonderful. Â We each started with the clam chowder that was thick, creamy and piping hot. Â He had a huge cut of prime rib and I had the filet, both cooked to perfection. Â Unfortunately I cannot comment on dessert because we were both too full to indulge.
At home that night my husband realized he had added wrong on the credit card bill. Â he called the next day and they took care of his "sloppy addition" right over the phone. Â They had realized the error themselves and pulled the bill to the side, they didnt just charge the card the wrong amount and say "tough cookies".
We will DEFINITELY Â be going back again.
If you haven't checked out Atlantica in the past two years you need to put it on the top of your list. No matter what the time of year you will not be disappointed. The location can't be beat. Overlooking scenic Cohasset harbor Atlantica is both cozy on a chilly evening (romantic fireplace in the lounge) and with its spectacular view of Cohasset harbor from every window in the restaurant, there is no better place to experience a summer sunset..The locale alone is enough reason to go but the food is out of this world...fabulous choices for appetizers and not an entree choice on the menu that I would not recommend . There is also a pub menu if you are looking for lighter options...
..My husband and I have enjoyed many a "date night" in the lounge...Service is consistently outstanding, always friendly but never overbearing...
Also a great venue for functions both large and small..trust me, you won't be disappointed...
I enjoyed Atlantica.
I came here over the summer and enjoyed lunch outdoors. The food was ok. But I enjoyed the view and outdoor patio.
I came here again this past weekend for dinner and sat inside. We had a window view. Even though it was dark, it was still pretty with the boats and there were still some christmas lights up. Our waiter was very nice. The food was great. We had scallops wrapped in bacon for an appetizer. They weren't amazing, but they were good. For dinner, I ordered the special, the Sea Bass. It was amazing! Our waiter (and chef) was very accommodating when I told him of my dairy allergy. I don't think I've had sea bass at an american restaurant and I think it was pretty simply made (maybe salt and pepper), but it was so delicious. I wish it was a regular item on the menu. My boyfriend enjoyed his filet minon. He's pretty picky and he liked this filet. The prices don't seem to outrageous either for a nice dinner.
The space is pretty roomy and the bar area looked pretty nice. It seemed a little bright though (I dunno..a minor detail I noticed).
I wish I could tell Atlantica to contact me every time they had the Sea Bass as a special!
We had a small wedding here and the food, view, and wait staff were fantastic (hence the 2 stars), but unfortunately we didn't receive good service from the "wedding coordinator." Â Michelle the wedding coordinator could be snappy and rude at times. Â For example, she would rush me off the phone when I would call her for a question. Â Also, after our food tasting session, she never spoke with us about it and we were told she was in another meeting. Â This I thought was strange considering it was such an important day for me. Â Also, there were times that I would call and she would not return my phone call. Â As our wedding proceeded, she was rushing us out the door when our time was up and had moved all of my things out of the dressing room and into a big pile of mess in the hallway before our time was up!!! Â That was preposterous!!! Â Overall, the day went well and the guests had no idea of our backstage complications and it was still the happiest day of my life...but I doubt that had anything to do with our "wedding coordinator," Â Michelle. Â I put it in quotes because she did next to nothing to coordinate my wedding and of course we still had to pay the "wedding coordinator fee"
Review Source:Tuna wontons were not that great. Too much dressing and you needed a magnify glass to find the tuna. I liked the short rib tacos. The BF did not. We told the waiter the tuna wasn't good. He was like "oh well". And walked away. Totally our fault for not being more strong that they were not that good.
We are going to back but maybe try the dinners.
I love Atlantica to meet a friend for a drink and enjoy the beautiful view of Cohasset Harbor! The spot couldn't be more perfect. But I have never ventured beyond the bar area and I doubt I ever will. The food situation is not so ideal.
This past visit, my friend and I were thinking about staying for dinner and we wanted to order an appetizer. The only caveat ... it had to be gluten-free. We saw a lot of possibilities ... lobster dip perhaps? Could they even find us some tortilla chips? Nope. Not one thing. Crazy. Not a single corn chip in the place. A flour-lovers paradise, apparently. If you are interested in noshing on something (anything!) gluten-free, definitely go elsewhere.
Views were amazing... Calamari starter was a little overcooked stay away from the cohasset lobster dip it was the consistency of soup with very little lobster in it. Service was unattentive and slow at one point our server had been missing for quite some time only to reappear chewing....wonder where she was. The center cut swordfish was thin but cooked well and the lobster mashed potatoes were bland and again lacking lobster. I did see another server come back onto the floor carrying and checking her cell phone while her table was looking around for her. Its a shame that this wonderful location doesnt provide anything other than a great view.
Review Source:I'm not a big fan of the Atlantica. I think most of the food comes from Sysco, the Sunday Brunch feels like a cafeteria, and atmosphere is too sterile. If you go, insist on being seated in the bar. At least you'll have company. The staff is friendlier when you are within eye site. The location is great but the restaurant sadly doesn't take advantage if it.
Review Source:Atlantica is a beautiful spot for a wedding reception. My husband and I recently had ours here and we couldn't be happier. Michelle, the events coordinator, was available and willing to answer any and all questions and was always extremely professional. The food the night of the wedding was the best wedding food I have ever tasted...the filet mignon and chilean sea bass were both cooked perfectly.
There were only a couple of negative things about the night. There had been a wedding earlier in the day so when the wedding party went upstairs to the bride and groom prep rooms there was broken glass all over the bride room's floor. However it was immediately cleaned up when I mentioned it to the waitstaff. Also I would stay away from signature drinks. We requested white sangria, which ended up being a little bit of white wine, a splash of some sort of juice and tons of club soda. I didn't see any glasses with cut up fruit in them and it just ended up looking like pink wine or juice.
Overall a nice spot for a wedding reception with a beautiful view of Cohasset Harbor. If you are looking to get married on the south shore this is a nice option.
My husband and I came here on 5/19/12 to celebrate my graduation from my master's program. We chose this place because we have always had a great experience here. The service was soooo bad that I will NEVER step foot in this restaurant ever again. I ordered lobster with linguini. It tasted delicious, but I found lobster shells in my dish. Gross! My husband ordered steak to be cooked medium. Half of it was cooked medium, the other half was rare. When our waitress finally came over to clear our plates (because she never checked on us to see how our food was) we told her about the steak and all she had to say was sorry as she walked away. I'm sorry, but if I'm going to spend $100 on a dinner out with my husband, I want the food to be perfect and want better service.
The waitress really ruined what was supposed to be a special night. Do not recommend this place to anyone.
I went with about 9 other friends and sat in the bar til everyone else got there. Â Great bar... beautiful atmosphere, and bartenders were great. That is where this good review ends.... Â Our waitres must have been new.. Who gives a new waitress a party of 13?? She also never asked us how our food was. Â My baked stuffed lobster was horrible, over cooked and was suppose to be stuffed w/seafood... it was stuffed with STUFFING... claws and tail was overcooked.... What flipping Fine Dining restaurant over cooks lobster?? Â and for $28 i know why i've never eaten here and i never will AGAIN!
Review Source:I almost didn't go to Atlantica when I was in Cohasset last week because of all the bad reviews here. But it was the most convenient option for my situation, and so I decided to give it a chance. I am so glad that I did. The staff could not have been nicer- they greeted us pleasantly, and were extremely professional. When I asked about getting a cab (we had arrived by boat and hence had no car), the manager brought me a list of phone numbers. Unfortunately Cohasset doesn't have cabs, and the manager offered to drive us to two miles down the road so we wouldn't have to walk. It was peak time Saturday night, so this gesture was completely unexpected, and greatly appreciated.
Our server was excellent- again, very professional. And the food was surprisingly good. I liked that they had a variety of fancy seafood dished, and then also the option to have a simple piece of grilled fish, with your choice of two sides. I wish more places did this. The food was great, my fish was grilled to perfection, and the sides (broccolini, onion rings and potato gratin) were just as wonderful. Portions weren't huge, but I'll take quality over quantity any day.
All in all, I had a wonderful experience at Atlantica. I can't wait to go back.
Beautiful location and attractive restaurant. Bar drinks were light on the alcohol. Â We split a winter salad - very delicious. I had the Seafood pasta. The clams and scallops were good but the shrimp and lobster were over cooked. The cream sauce tasted slightly burned. The steak special was good but the au'gratin potatoes were burned on top.
Review Source:I'd been to Atlantica on several occasions during my visits to Cohasset, and it had always been extremely enjoyable with delicious food, a fabulous setting, and good service. Â (They had the best risotto with a Thai-style hot pepper spicy shrimp ever but it must have been a one-time thing because I've never seen it on the menu again.) Â Unfortunately, the last time I went with family, the food was nowhere on the same level as it used to be, and the service was slow/flaky, which I could forgive if the food had been as good as it usually is. Â The setting was as usual beautiful (we had a seat by the waterfront). Â I would probably return once more just to see if it was an off-night, because I always loved Atlantica so hopefully it can redeem itself.
Review Source:My wife were suppose to go to Atlantica for Valentines day last year but stuff came up and we never made it. Â Well we decided to have our Valentines Day dinner last weekend and were very happy we chose Atlantica for the occasion. Â The place is huge and split into several different function rooms, so there will most likely be some sort of event going on if you go. Â We sat in the bar area to eat which suited us because it was a little more lively than the other rooms which tended to be a little stuffy. Â The bartender was awesome and was very informative about the menu (whats good, whats fresh, and all the specials). Â The chowder was probably the best I've had since moving to the south shore and the food was lights out. I got the Atlantic Cod, which was recomended by the bartender as a restaurant specialty, and it was outstanding. Â I usually don't order white fish when I go out to eat but I'm glad I did. Â My wife had the Spicy Shrimp Coconut Stir Fry which was also good, but had no trace of coconut in the dish which was disappointing. This place can get a little pricey but is worth it for a splurge once in a while. Â They only offer valet parking but it is complimentary, minus the tip of course. Â We will definitely be going back again.
Review Source:I've been driving past this waterfront restaurant for years and always admired the beautiful setting. I'd heard mediocre reviews, but it was a beautiful evening and we finally decided to give it a whirl anyway. Mistake. At some point the sun sets and you are forced to take stock of the dead flies on the window sill, the shmutz caked on the back of your chair and the lint hanging from the air vent in the ceiling. This would all be forgiven if the food was decent, but it's not. While the menu showed promise, it was clear when the food came out that this is a place that relies on its fabulous views rather than on hiring a staff that cares remotely about the food leaving the kitchen. Alas, out of the four of us, two had very undercooked steak and shrimp that had to be sent back. One had a very overcooked lobster tail. When I finally got my steak back it had gone from nearly raw to well-done and the four skewered shrimp that made up the surf of this surf and turf dish, never came back at all. (My husband finally caught the waitress and after a bit of waiting the shrimp arrived). As a former waitress, I really hate sending food back or making a fuss. But as a consumer, I'm not ok with a $30 entree that is less than mediocre. And really, come on! If you're a high end restaurant on the water and can't even do steak and shrimp correctly, then you shouldn't be in business. This is a prime piece of property in the most upscale area of the South Shore. It's really a shame to see this glorious spot go to waste. I only hope some entrepreneur sees these reviews and snaps the place up, gives it the much needed facelift, menu and staff overhaul it needs. When that happens, I'll be the first in line.
Review Source:As a Cohasset native that never patronized Atlantica, (or it's previous iteration, as an outpost of the Chart House chain) I figured a harborside dinner would be a nice diversion while passing through.
And the view didn't disappoint- it was a beautiful summer evening and we had a table looking out across the moored lobster boats in Cohasset harbor.
Everything else came up a little short though. Upon walking in, I noticed a heap of hotel pans and other "stuff" piled up next to an island external to the kitchen. It looked like the staff was cleaning up after an an event (turns out there was a wedding reception happening, more on that later). Usually when obvious details like this are missed, you can expect shortcomings elsewhere.
We were seated, and our server poured us water and introduced himself. He was nice enough, but it was inexperience was evident. After we ordered, he rushed off without taking our menus, and they sat at the side of the booth until the end of the meal. After our starters were cleared, silverware was not replaced. Drinks were painfully slow to be refreshed and water to be refilled.
The food... one friend ordered the "baby romain" (sic) caesar salad, which contained quite a few baby greens, but no romaine! The salad was very lightly dressed, so my friend asked for some more dressing. He received a small dish of some thick glop that looked and tasted like it came from a Kraft bottle.
My entree was a mess- a lobster dish with spinach gnocchi and a champagne reduction. The lobster was slightly overcooked, but the champagne sauce had no subtlety- it's redolence overpowered the natural sweetness of the locally caught lobster. Shame that the pillowy gnocchi suffered a heavy dose of salt...
Simpler items fared better- Shrimp cocktail, a burger, they were decent, good even. But ask the cooking staff to assemble something minutely complex and the train would eject off the rails time and again.
Also, about the wedding- there was a reception in one of the private dining rooms. But the doors were wide open and the already loud dining area was bombarded with the sounds of celebration, DJ and all.
For a place that prides itself on location, service, and food, only the tranquility of the  fading sunlight on a gorgeous midsummer evening could begin to redeem Atlantica's failure on the remainder of the experience.
Our bartender told us this place is for sale for only $55 million??!! Â I guess they'll throw in the rest of the harbor for that price. Â I've been here many times and always love the location and view but haven't been as impressed with the food. Â This time was different as the quesadilIas appetizers and salad were excellent. Â I met a friend who just finished up dinner and had the same favorable opinion of the food. Â I plan to stop in for a full dinner soon and give a complete review.
Review Source:Gorgeous views, good brunch and great company always make for a good experience!
I went to Atlantica yesterday for a friend's bridal shower brunch, and I was definitely not disappointed. Despite the fact that I've lived in Cohasset basically my entire life, I had yet to come to Atlantica as I kind of assumed it was more of a seafood place than anything else - obviously, they proved me wrong!
The brunch had a decent selection, with a good mix of breakfast foods (fruits, pastries, eggs, home fries, meats, crepes, omelettes, etc.) and lunch meats (roast beef and ham). I believe the price was around $20 for adults, but I didn't notice the kids price.
p.s. check out the pics I added of the view!
If you are looking for a place to go with a beautiful view of one of the prettiest harbors around, you have found it. Â Not only is the view spectacular any time of the year, but the bar is tastefully decorated with nautical touches and a beam ceiling. Â If you sit at the bar, you will have the best service around. Â You will pay a little more for the food, but it is worth it. Â I have always been impressed with whatever I have ordered. Â In the summer, they open the "Old Salt House" and you can get the same food out on a deck on the harbor. Â One of my favorite restaurants!
Review Source:I just attended a bridal shower here, and my goodness is this place beautiful! Â A little off the beaten path, but that only adds to its charm. Â The view directly overlooks the harbor and this place is all windows - gorgeous! Â
Beautiful atmosphere, delicious food and drinks. Â
My only complaint ... I was a little surprised that the service was kind of lousy. Â Maybe it had to do with the large number of people in the room, but there was no pro-active service at all. Â If you wanted a drink, or a refill on your water, you had to flag someone down. Â They also served coffee without any creamer or sugar on the table ... ? Â It was extremely difficult to get some assistance. Â I hope it was just because of the circumstances (large bridal shower).
I'll definitely try this place again for dinner!
I NEVER take the time to write a review, but I felt compelled in this case.  We went to the Atlantica for our wedding anniversary.  Great venue, the harbor is beautiful - but what a disappointing experience.  First of all, they were playing Led Zeppelin loudly in the restaurant.  Who plays Led Zeppelin as dinner music in a restaurant like this one!!  Ruined the atmosphere.  When we asked about it, we were told  - well the bartender wanted to hear it....  Anyway - the food was mediocre for the price and we both walked out saying we'd never go back except for drinks in the bar.....
Save your money.
This place was recommended by a local co-worker righteously so
After leaving the office in Rockland at 8:35pm and getting lost on the way (enjoying all of the colonial homes along the way), the host was most accommodating in making sure we'd get fed quickly then seating us for dinner at 9:10pm, 10 minutes after the kitchen had closed.
I'm not much of a fish eater but the roasted cod was scrumptuous!!! Â I hadn't had much of an appetite for a couple of days and this dish was sooooo fresh and delicious, I would've eaten two!!! Â Our food was delivered in minutes and the price was fantastic - I expected the bill to be much more than it was.
It was nightime so we couldn't see much of the harbor, but I'm sure the view is wonderful just by the layout of the restaurant and the huge windows facing the harbor. Â I love the running stream inside the restaurant!
I cannot wait to go back and eat at this place again - it was that good!
On a recommendation from a local, we gave Atlantica a shot.. Â Sat outside on the deck on a beautiful day. Â Service was quick and friendly... Â The lobster roll on the other had was VERY disappointing. Â Not sure if it was not fresh or out of a can, but I'm sure a rubber band would have been more tender. Â The atmosphere is enough to over look the disappointing food.
Review Source:It's not hard to fall in love with Atlantica. Located on Cohasset Harbor, the dining room boasts a stunning panoramic view out to Minot's Light in a setting befitting a fine resort.
On a recent summer Monday four of us headed down for a leisurely dinner. We were seated promptly and tended to by a waitress whon who was attentive but not overbearing and who had a good knowledge of the menu. Three of us got seafood, one halibut, one schrod, and an order of sea scallops, while I selected a chicken breast dinner. The sea scallops were huge, yet tasty, and the schrod was light and moist. While I liked the chicken, the person who had the halibut thought it was a bit dry. Portions were relatively large, especially the chicken and the scallops and the order of mashed potatoes that came with the chicken could have fed two people. Very good food, a stunning location, and excellent service will bring me back to Atlantica soon.
The water-views from the huge plate glass windows at this restaurant are nothing short of stunning. And the food, well, it's delicious and generally prepared exceptionally well. Sounds good, right? What more could you ask from a restaurant than good food and a location so close to the water that if you were stranded on a raft in the middle of the ocean you wouldn't really be closer. Well, I'm glad you asked.
Because when my dining companions and I asked to have our special dietary needs accomodated, it required some machiavellian scheming on the part of our waitress (shout out to Charlie- you have a great sense of humor, and we were a pain in the ass) Â to get the kitchen to oblige. Our request didn't require accomodation on the level of the Americans with Disabilities Act. All we wanted was the vegetable of the day instead of a potato. And the chef at Atlantica was unacceptably unbending about making said substitution until we agreed to pay an additional $8.00 for the side. Similarly, they appeared to use ice cream in their desserts, but when one of my dining companions asked for ice cream AS a dessert on its own, he almost had to order a kid's sundae because they couldn't wrap their heads around the concept of deviating from their set menu. Â Now, if this was pre-prepared food or was a less expensive restaurant, I'd be a bit more accepting... but they didn't accomodate my bullshit, so I'm not accomodating theirs. Â
Equally as frustrating as the rigid menu policy of the restaurant was the menu itself. Â You need a degree from the CIA (culinary arts institute) to decipher it. Unless you're a michelin ranked chef, I dare to you to figure out what sauce fits with what protein on the mixed grill section of the menu. They do provide recommendations, but it's so outrageously confusing to review the list that I always just end up ordering the lobster....and NO one that I've dined with at Atlantica has chanced it yet. Gordon Ramsey would kick the shit out of the chef de cuisine if he came here to film Kitchen Nightmares.
So, since Gordon Ramsey isn't around, I'll play the role: "DAMN IT ATLANTICA, YOU DONKEY. SHUT IT DOWN!" The customer is always right and your menu is a hot tranny mess. Luckily even though you are fraught with issues, you still have pleasant waitstaff, good food, and a heaven-sent view to redeem three piddly, sorry-ass stars for you.
Who knew you could dine on top of the water, anywhere other than a boat. Â At Atlantica, you certainly can while staying firmly on land. Â
This lovely restaurant juts out into the water and if you are lucky to have the corner table (the walls are glass from floor to ceiling) it feels like a Titanic moment. Â
The specials of the day were a delicious Asian flavored salmon with whipped sweet potatoes and a halibut with a Cuban mango salsa. Â The presentation was fantastic and the portions were just filling. Â
Tip: Â try to be seated just before sunset. Â What could be more beautiful than a sunset oceanscape with a lovely dinner companion.
The view from this waterfront restaurant could not be nicer -- quaint New England cove with lobster boats gently lit at night. Tasteful and elegant interior. The food is very good. The service is thorough, yet can be very slow. An excellent restaurant for a memorable evening.
If you need a table for 8-10 for a special dinner on the South Shore - Atlantica would be an ideal choice.
