Food was pretty good - got the salad with blackened chicken. Â It was good. Â Seemed a bit understaffed - one cook, one bartender and one waitress. Â They were all working hard and were nice but struggling to keep up. Â Seemed like there were a lot of regulars...so there may be more than what met the eye last night....We did enjoy our evening. Â Beer nice and cold!
Review Source:I first went to the Back Nine Pub when my son came to visit and wanted to see a soccer game scheduled for one afternoon. I don't have cable so we went to see if they could put the game on. They couldn't have been friendlier!! They searched and found the right channel and asked which TV we wanted them to put it on. We ordered soft drinks with chips and salsa, which was good and not expensive. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed; no pressure to order more or hurry away. I was impressed!! Will go back and try the food next.
Review Source:When I first turned 21 I was at this place almost every night with my friends. Â The bartenders are/were amazing, the crowd was always fun and the events they held kept first time visitors coming back. Â Their food seemed to be always on point, it was also a good thing I knew the cooks ;), and the portions of even the appetizers seemed to be more then filling. Â The only reason this place isn't getting a 5 star was the fact that a local cop would come in and sit for hours talking to the locals, waiting for some drunk guy/girl to roam out and start walking. Â It just seemed to kill the mood of the place to a point where I stopped going for a bit. Â
All in all though, The Back 9 has always been one of my Cary favorites. Â With great specials, good music and just enough room inside this tiny pub to keep a small crowd entertained all night long.
** Update **
They do offer specials, however, the pricing is pretty high even for a special and they're not as good as they used to be.
There is a bartender with a super fake attitude that had a black eye when I visited. Â Who wants to try to have a good time when your bartender looks like that?

It saddens me that this place is under new management.
The bar no longer has drink specials, they no longer free-pour, the new layer of paint looks nice, but it looks a lot more empty without the nice overhang above the bar.
The Back Nine is a homey little bar tucked away in the corner of a shopping center. Â It sits next to Bruegars Bagels, The ABC store and Papa Johns pizza.
I have been going to the back nine for about 10 years or so. Â The back nine to me is great because of their fantastic wings (some of the best in the area), good selection of draft beer, and friendly wait staff.
If you are a wing lover and you have not had the back nine wings, go there now. Â They are really good. Â During lunch Mon-Fri you can get 8 wings and a drink for $5, you can't beat that. Â Other items on the menu also stand out, the chicken fingers, buffalo chicken wrap, and quesadillas.
For such a small place, I am amazed at their draft beer selection. Â They are a shining example for bars all around the triangle on how to have a decent selection of beers without needing 100 taps. Â They do not make it easy on themselves. Â Unlike most places, they use multiple distributors to get different beers. Â They do not just let the distributors pick the beers for them. Â Last time I was there they had the standards, Lite, bud light, bud, and blue moon, but they also had Guinness, Sam Adams, Red Hook ESB, and a couple others.
Finally the wait staff, about a year or two ago the owner Claude passed away, and his wife took over the business. Â Unfortunately that led to letting go some of the wait staff that had been there for a long time. Â I was really worried about this, as one of the best things about the Back Nine is that it is a small pub, therefore if you go a couple of times the staff know you, and treat you like a friend. Â I am happy to tell you that even with the new staff that has not gone away at all.
So in summary, while It's not going to knock you over with elegance if you like Good Food, Good Beer (they have a bar as well), a Friendly Wait Staff and don't mind small pubs then you should give the back nine a try.
