Cooked Food here was above average - sliders particularly were tasty. Our raw oysters were only ok - whoever  shucked them kind of mangled a few of them - in addition,  they were very inconsistent in size - a few so small that they looked like tiny manila clams.
Drinks - below average. The margaritas tasted like a mix, Â the martinis were weak, Â and there is something odd about drinking a grey goose dirty out of plastic! Â Stick to beer here
Ambience - FUn fun fun. Great music, lots of people looking for a great time.
BUT - there is NO WAY to escape the cigarette smoke because everything is outside.
Stopped by between the rainstorms on Sunday afternoon to  hear a fantastic steel drum performance with awesome (best I've ever had) fish tacos and supercold beer..we would have stayed longer but Mother Nature apparently wanted me to leave before I was ready.....one of the very best outdoor restaurant venues I've ever experienced....thumbs up (both)
Review Source:You don't see places like this too often in Palm Beach County, but I'm glad I've experienced it. It's a good balance of embracing the craft beer scene while being strongly reminiscent of the Old Florida Beach Town vibe.
Imagine that fort that you thought you were going to build when you were ten. Now upgrade it, add some chickee huts with bars underneath, big booths and a stage, and you'll probably be pretty close to the setup at The Backyard. If it weren't for the fact that we visited during summer, aka the time when just sitting outside makes one break into a sweat, we would have been perfectly at home while drinking beer and eating fish tacos as we listen to a great band. Don't expect the usual atmosphere here: this place is neither a meat market nor a place where yuppies hang, but it is a place where flip flops, shorts, fishing t-shirts and bringing your well-behaved dog along are all welcome.
The menu is primarily fresh seafood with an emphasis on their raw bar offerings, and the fish tacos are pretty damned awesome, as are the key lime pie and the conch fritters. When we went, most of the taps were dedicated to local breweries (Due South, Tequesta and Miami Brewing that night) and the variety available was perfect for a large number of folks who are "outdoorsy" in that they like to drink on patios. We accidentally ordered too much food and ended up rolling out of there, happy, full and entertained.
I have mixed feelings about this place. Let's break it down into four categories: ambiance, service, food, beer. Ambiance was cool, fun. Live music (not great musicians, but it was live). Food was really quite good. 4 stars on the food. Beer....this is a tough one for me. I'm a beer snob. I like my Belgian ales (Chimay, St Bernardus, Duvel, Orval) and my German bocks (Salvator, Optimator). They do have a lot of craft beers (and they are really "proud" of them, $6.75 non happy hour. For $9 you can get a Chimay at  the Omphoy). Unfortunately, the beers really weren't that good. They had a sharp taste to them, nothing mellow, nor aged. I don't know what happy hour prices are, but half off would be a bit of a high price for these brews. I think they're $3.75 beers at full price. Service. Jeez, with unemployment what it is, could you guys not find bartenders and staff who are glad to be working?? Maybe everyone was having a bad day, it was a Monday after all, but jeez, have y'all ever been taught to smile? Aren't most bartenders people who enjoy bantering with the customers? Not here. The bartender preferred to lean on the bar with his arms crossed. I will go back for the food, but I will drink my beer before and after going. Maybe get the food to go.
One week later, upon further review: Made it in time for happy hour. My wife really liked the bitter taste of the beer. That taste isn't for me, but, apparently, some like it. Â Two for one beer and wine made the prices more palatable. Service was superb this time. Sherri (Sherry?) was outstanding. Food, again, was quite good. Better band than last time. Had today been the first time, I would have rated it 4 stars. So, I'll go with 3.5.
Also, dog friendly! A bunch of tea cups and mini's. Quite fun
Great food, atmosphere, and music. However, if you're raking in the money, provide the appropriate service. I visited on a Sunday and the next night, thoroughly enjoying both visits.  Then  I took some friends on a Friday night and it was packed. We were just about to go when a table opened up rgt in front of the band(now have perm hearing loss) so we decided to stay.  Waitress(blond(just saying)) takes orders and does not return for 45 mins. The food was delivered timely by another waitress with NO napkins or utensils and one order missing.(which we never got)  After eating 1/2 the order with our hands, I finally get the attention of a mgr? and signal/sign that we have no utensils so he sends the "runner" over with them. About 20 more mins go by and the Blond returns like nothing happened. Now get this. I ask her one simple ques,  "Hon, are you short help tonight?" and she says, " No, i dont think so".  BONG  WRONG ANSWER.  So I ask for the Manager and over comes Doogie(a kid with a bud in his ear). Well he musta been listening to some music cause he sure wasnt Managing anything with that ear bud thingy.  My bet is he was in the back with the Blond.  Oh well i probably will try again but avoid Fri or Sat nites  Too bad cause I like the rock bands on weekends the best.  C'mon Management, I know they're pretty to look at when you're working there for hours but make sure they have at least 1/2 a brain.  Oh and I dont care how good your Guacamole is, 12 bucks for a couple of smashed up avacados in a Backyard is robbery.(You dont have NYC rent for crying out loud)...
Review Source:Backyard has become my husband and I's go-to spot! I've never had a bad meal or drink there. The steak tacos and buffalo sliders are my favorite, but I've also heard that their raw bar is great. My only complaint would be that they usually only have one selection of cider and it's often sold out.
As far as entertainment goes, I've never heard a bad band or artist! Backyard is a great place to bring friends, especially out-of-towners who will love the ambiance!
Excellent music and atmosphere!  The raw bar looks great and the stuff coming out of it smelled delish.  I look forward to trying it next time.  The veggie tacos were AWESOME.  Perfectly seasoned and they had lots of veggies inside.  My boyfriend had the pulled pork sandwich - and he said it was mediocre.  It was very fatty and the sauce was  too mustardy.  Overall a great place and we will come back.
Review Source:This place has a great atmosphere & lots of entertainment  BUT...
1. Â they need some soft lighting above the tables. Â We had to use our cell phone flashlights to see the menu. Â
2. beware of the 2 for 1 happy hour. Â If you are seated anywhere but at the bar, you must be served your second drink by the time happy hour ends (6 pm) Â Our waitress did not explain this, consequently they would not serve us our second drink!!! Â pretty crappy eh?
I think this really was someones backyard. Â There are a few shacks across the street that people still live in, but mostly its an industrial / commercial area. Â Â The area is random at best, but once you get inside none of that matters. Â Â They definitely need a marked parking lot since people were parking all over the place. Â There was a valet, but who want to use them. Â It looked like you could easily get towed from the neighboring businesses but we didn't!
Anyways once inside (outside) the backyard  you will feel right at home.  There are several large covered areas but mostly its all outside.  The kitchen is an old (clean looking) camper and the only building is the bathrooms.  The live band was great.  Plenty of room and being outside helped with the smoking situation. Â
It was somewhat an older crowd but I suspect they came with the band and left once the band ended. Â Super friendly bartenders. Â Great beer selection, especially the local Due South beers. Â They had at least 6 of them on tap.
The menu looked great and I saw the raw bar in the corner as well. Â We didn't try any food but what I saw looked nice. Â They have about 12 tv's for the game and plenty of different seating areas.
I was really happy with my first visit to the Backyard and will return soon.
Cool outdoor tiki bar with live music and great fish tacos. Â Bartender was good enough, the food was fast, fresh and delicious. Â Limited menu items. The band was entertaining, but when the band finished the music got way too loud. Â I was under a speaker at the bar, and I did not feel like screaming to communicate. Â It's a cool place though and I will be back for sure. Â Love the vibe you guys got going on, but chill with the volume a little.
Review Source:Have been looking for a place for my wife and I that has live music, beer, and appetizers. Â That's what this place has. Â It's outside only from what I could tell.
We each had a Bloody Mary... little too spicy for my wife. Then got the guacamole... this was tasty, they serve it with banana chips and the regular tri-colored chips. Â I also had a local Boynton made beer called Due South and I would order it again in the future.
If you want gourmet food this would not be first choice. Â The menu is very limited to say the least. But if you want to sit back with friends and chill to good music and beer then here you go. Â Age range of people there was mid to late 20's to 50-60's. Â No look in particular had bikers to grandparents to beach folk.
nothing wrong with this place. its a little hard to find, but once youre there, its a neat little tiki type outdoor bar. prolly not good in the rain as it pretty open. but its a  creative little spot in the middle of a warehouse area.
food and drinks were both good and reasonable. the band was good too and by 6:00 on a saturday, then had a nice crowd going.
i recommend trying it and see if its for you.
ill go back.
ok... So I like out of the way dive bars.... This one USED to be an a-class dive bar, definitely out of the way (at the time the cops didnt even know how to get there). It was called Nats Den. DIVE.
I recently had the chance to check out the new joint... It was pretty awesome. An all out side bar... Tables, Tikis, a stage for a band to play (one was playing). Â I bumped into old friends, had a beer.
It was a completely chill vibe. I had a great time and definitely plan to go back... Perhaps on their In The Biz night? We'll see.
Well, I must admit, I do love stopping by for an appetizer and a cold one every now and than. The atmosphere is always chill, and the people are fun. If your looking to be out-doors on a gorgeous day- this is the place to be, but if it's raining, never mind!!.(I do believe they are working on that though, it's still growing, since business seems to be booming.)There aren't many hangout spots like this one in Delray Beach, FL though, so I would consider it a must see for those visiting. They are known to have good bar food and live music on a daily basis. They recently had a Pirate Party, which turned out to be awesome. I do recommend attending, I do not recommend participating in any contest though. You will never win if they allow the workers to participate, it's impossible. I took 2nd place to the cocktail waitress there- go figure right??? On a better note, the mangement felt bad when I called them out on it, and hooked up our tab for free. I'm thinking, it may not happen again. But people should know since it was pretty messed up!!!! Good job, 1st place!!!
Review Source:My husband and I are fans of tiki bars in general and this one fits into the general description since its (1) completely outdoors and (2) super casual.
The place is located next to the rail road tracks between Gateway and Boynton Beach Blvd. Â Parking is on a gravel lot next door.
When we stopped by a live band was just getting started. Â First, yay for live music, the band was great. Â However, it was a bit too loud in that it was happy hour time and if you wanted to talk you couldn't hear over the band. Â Music was good but I would tone it down just a bit. Â
The whole place is outdoors, which we are used to in that we like Square Grouper in Jupiter and Havana Hideout in Lake Worth. Â But its an issue in Florida, it had rained earlier and while the tables had been wiped off we had to get them to wipe the backs of the benches and we left as the storms rolled in. Â But the place has a fun vibe to it.
The bar was generally full when we arrived but the tables were open, we were approached by a young guy who said he would take care of us if we sat at a table. Â He was friendly enough but uniforms might help distinguish the servers from the bar patrons as I wasn't sure who he was when he started talking to me. Â
They had some decent happy hour specials which we enjoyed. Â I had the rum punch which, while it tasted good, seemed like a light pour. Â I had the local fish sliders with a side of sweet potato fries. Â Everything was hot and well seasoned. Â Food comes out of truck like Havana Hideouts. Â Our food was delivered by another gal who noticed my husband's drink was empty so she asked him if he wanted a second round which he did. Â Then our waiter showed up to check on us and did the same thing. Â When my husband told him the girl was getting the drink there seemed like there was some territory strife. Â
This place is new so I think they need to (1) get their staff some uniforms (2) work a bit on staff training as there shouldn't be fights over who is putting the drink order in (3) make sure they wipe down all surfaces after rain.
Food was good, prices were good (at least at happy hour), live music was actually great  (but a bit too loud), drink could have been a bit heavier on the pour.  I'm sure we'll be back and this is a good addition to the area.  Wondering if its dog friendly, seems like it should be since its completely outdoors but need to check on that one.
Cuthills Backyard is the physical epitome of potential. Â The location is a bit bizarre as it sits off of Federal Hwy and Boynton Beach Blvd on the northwest side. Â It's hidden from street view and pressed up against the railroad tracks. Â But once you find it you will almost forget your are in this area of Boynton Beach.
The tropical, tiki like atmosphere is all over the place for this all outdoor venue. Â it looks like a big backyard, makes sense. Â Two bars on opposite ends with a stage in the middle. Â There is also a Streamline trailer that the kitchen is in just off the side of the stage. Â One bar carries all craft beer while the other has all macro. Â Lots of additional tables to sit at around the area.
They were pretty crowded the night I went in with friends and there was a cover band playing. Â Apparently they have live music every night of the week.
The service was alright. Â The bartenders at the craft beer bar didn't really know the product and had to be corrected a couple times as they started pouring the wrong beer. Â Also the blue and red Solo cups didn't sit well with me. Â I don't need glass but at least a clear plastic cup. Â Nit picking I know.
We didn't eat that night but a friend told me that the food is pretty good. Â Will try it next time.
Prices for drinks were very good so couple that with a nice place venue and I can see this becoming a regular hang out.
EDIT (4/29/13)
Remember what I said about potential? Â The Backyard has hit that and exceeded that. Â There seems to be something new added to the feel or enjoyment of the clientele each time I go there.
Almost all draft is craft beer now with the exception of 2 handles and they are using clear plastic cups (did my little review get that done?).
Overall the Backyard is a unique watering hole mixed with outside Florida dining. Â They have found their groove and it is working.
I must say, this place looks unassuming, but was suprisingly a lot of fun!
I came here over the weekend to meet a few friends of mind that I haven't seen in ages. Â Little did I know that I was walking into a Pirate Party! Â Aaarrrrgghhh...plenty of wenches around to service our orders before the terrential downpour started. Â
With the entire place being outdoors, the weather is a serious consideration. Â We watched as the clouds rolled in, but decided to hunker down under the cover of one of the bars. Â This ended up being a very good move and was well received by the bar staff. Â After a while of toughing out the cracks of lightening and gushing waters from above, the bartenders started handing out free shots to everyone as a thanks for sticking around. Â The staff at this bar is super friendly all around, and I'm not just saying that because of the free drinks! Â
After pounding a few beers and one hell of a good Bloody Mary, I decided it was time to get my grub on. Â The menu looked pretty good. Â Not too big and complex, but not too small either. Â All of the food is cooked out of a trailer that is set up on the side of the bar area. Â I wasn't sure what to expect, and was very pleased with the product! Â I decided on the fish tacos and an order of the roast pig that they had on special. Â
The tacos were spectacular! Â The fish was perfectly cooked and not over seasoned. Â The slaw that was served on the taco was a little light on the dressing, but it worked well with the little bit of lime that I squeezed over top. Â
The pig was delicious as well. Â Served with an ear of roasted corn and a HEAPING mound of potato salad, it was almost too much to handle. Â My only complaint was that my serving of pork had a significant amount of fat instead of meat. Â That was just my luck of the draw because my friends all had a mound of pork..so I stole some of theirs. Â I have no shame when it comes to pig! Â
When looking at some of the prior reviews, I get the impression that some people just need to KCCO and chill out a bit. Â I like this place. Â
Overall, this is a great little bar with complimentary valet parking and a super friendly staff. Â I'll be back...and I live in Fort Lauderdale.
The BB's outside bar with rocks instead of sand. Â It reminded me off the rum bar in Palm Beach Gardens without the bonfires. Â We didn't try any food since we were full and we concluded our date night with some drinks. Â The vodka and redbull drink I had was a little too sweet for me. Â When Chris went to order a captain and ginger, the waitress told him they didn't have captain morgan there. Â I don't know about you, but this was the first bar we have ever went to that told us that. Â No captain in ya? Â Just surprising. Â He settled for a sparrow jack drink. Â Hell, I don't remember the exact name of it, but he got another one, so I guess it was dandy enough for him. Â Be sure to get your people watch on since there are plenty of them in front by where the band plays.
Review Source:I came here last week to meet some friends for drinks. Â It took me a little bit to park because their situation definitely needs to be worked on. Â Right next to the bar is a rocky area parking area.
Well, I drove around the rocky area for a few minutes and finally caught someone backing out. Â I parked and went inside. Â The inside is actually all outside. Â There was a guy playing the guitar and singing on the northeast corner of the bar itself. Walking past the large metal trailer (I think the kitchen), was the entrance and the bar. Â
I met my friends at the bar and grabbed a menu. Â Vegetarians - do not come hungry. Â I think the only option on the menu was french fries. Â Everything else contained some form of meat.
Overall, this location is a cool place to hang out and have drinks with friends.
Place keeps getting better! Â Fun, friendly, beautiful place. Â Best Bloody Mary's north of Key West, actually makes us feel like we are in the Keys ;)
Really good bartenders, music & ambience. Â We are wowed by the Tuna & the Burgers, better guacamole than Rocco's. Â Only bump was the extremely young and inexperienced server. Â Cute is good...experience is better.
Will def be back, over & over.
Nice new neighborhood bar. Interesting pub menu. The fish tacos are very good and so is the guacamole, but it's overpriced -- as are several other menu items. Friendly atmosphere. While just recently opened, the venue continues to improve over time, but the staff still remains largely untrained and unprofessional -- doing shooters with friends while tending bar is not cool. Where are my free drinks? Outdoor seating only.
