Food was good, service was good. Â Unfortunately, at checkout, our server said they didn't take the Bar Card even though they are listed as taking it. As part time residents, we were a little astonished by this, especially after we spent a lot of money in appetizers and dinner and much cocktails and wine. Â Despite the good food and service, we will not be coming back...unethical BS is expected with some tourists, but not with locals or semi-locals who are regular customers.
Review Source:I have dined here a few times now. Â Great place, right on Duval, ask for seat on second floor on the railing and you can people watch with your delicious meal & drinks. Â Cucumber Cooler drink is refreshing and full of liquor. Â The fish is fresh and big portions. Â A must for dinner in Key West!
Review Source:I had my wedding brunch at Bagatelle in April and what could have turned out to be a disaster ended up as a complete delight.
We had reserved the upper deck a couple of months ago and had everything planned out. Unfortunately, the manager I had been in contact with had left and had not forwarded any of the info on to the new crew. I literally showed up (wedding party in tow) to be told "what reservation?". Every persons worst fear when planning any big function.
Long story short:
Beverly, the new manager, was at the restaurant in ten minutes. She listened to what we had reserved and had the deck set and ready to go in no time. While we were waiting for the space to be ready she set up a bloody mary and mimosa bar to keep our guests well watered and happy.
The setting was gorgeous and the food was wonderful. It was an amazing brunch and the nicest end to a perfect wedding. I really had the most lovely week in Key West and was so happy to have it end at Bagatelle.
Bagatelle freaking rocks! I love fish taco's and lemme tell you, this place has some of the best fish taco's I've ever had. I ordered the key west taco's and the sauce on the fish was truly devine. My girlfriend had a fish sandwich and also ranted and raved about it - she usually never eats fish either. The restaurant is in a beautiful older house that was built in 1884 and the deck offers a prefect spot for people watching.
Review Source:Went here twice during a recent trip to KW. Can't miss breakfast! $16 steak & eggs -- not a small piece of beef as you might expect at that price point." Â $14 Crab Benedict with Key Lime hollandaise was also enredible. The later breakfast was just before my flight. When I explained my time sensitivity, they made sure, not only that I had an exceleent breackfast, but also that I was in-and-out in a half hour. Highly recommended!
Review Source:I think this place is average in all ways except the location and the building. Those are top notch. It is a great place to watch people walking down Duval Street especially from the upstairs porch. Â I have had some good meals and some so so meals here, so the food can be inconsistent.
Review Source:Located in Key West right on Duval street. This place is my favorite when I come to this area. Very close to the pier. About a five minute walk.
This was Sea Captian Frederick Roberts house built in 1884.
Bagatelle was established in 1979 and has been bringing locals and tourist to their magnificent place since then.
French Toast. Whipped cream, bananas, dark rum sauce. @tarajroth ordered this one and she gives it a three thumbs up. She told our server Melisa that she wanted to compliment the chef. @Tarajroth says this is her favorite French toast ever.
Key West Fish Tacos with a side of guacamole. This was my dish and I loved it. The sauce on top made these tacos perfect. Five thumbs up!!
Ask for Melisa. Awesome server!
Had breakfast here this morning with my 3-year-old. I have read in several reviews that this place is not kid friendly but this was not my experience.
The hostess greeted us with hesitation when I arrived with the wee little one in my arms but quickly warmed up when she realizes how well mannered he was.
He had the Mixed Berries & Yogurt and they very willingly accommodated his picky tastes by substituting the raspberries with bananas and adding coconut to his yogurt at no additional cost.
I has the Huevos Rancheros, which I was informed is a staff favorite. Â I must admit it was fantastic, but very different than any Huevos Rancheros I had ever previously tasted.
The service was very slow but I was in no rush, so it didn't bother me. However the slow service and the hostess' hesitance to be friendly is why it did not get 5 stars.
One star for sunshine.
Not family friendly. They were angry with is for
coming in with kids.
After ordering and sitting at table for 40 minutes, the waitress at this restaurant serving "island cuisine" at lunchtime in Superbowl Sunday came back and said they ate out of fish. All fish. That left one item on the menu: hamburgers.
Then, they had the nerve to charge us $11 for coca colas.
Not sure if this was just about them not wanting to serve us because of the kids, or if this snooty place in the middle of Duvall Street actually ran out of 95% of the menu at lunchtime.
A great place to eat lunch on the porch and people watch. My boyfriend and I came here for a nice lunch. We were seated immediately and chose our entrees pretty quickly. I had a salad with salad greens, candied walnuts, gorgonzola cheese, raspberries, fresh sliced pears and green apples, and a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. I added grilled chicken to it, and it was very delicious. My boyfriend had the panko-crusted fish sandwich, and he loved it. He said the fish was incredibly fresh. I personally kept stealing his french fries, which were perfectly seasoned and crisp.
The only complaint I have is that I think they charge a ridiculous amount to add chicken to a salad: $6. I could understand $4 or something like that, but $6? It just seemed like a lot for a small chicken breast. I think they need to rethink their prices a little bit, Duval Street or not. I don't regret dining here, though, and I might be persuaded to come back again for another meal.
Loved their delicious light brunch! Staying at ocean key resort in key west for a few days.  We also left a backpack behind and they made every attempt to contact us to retrieve it, and kept it safe  until we returned. Great food, superior service and good old fashioned great peeps! Highly recommend!
Review Source:This was our third option for breakfast during a cruise port of call stop in Key West. The other two places were closed for vacation (visit was mid-September).
We sat on the porch which was comfortable and relaxing. I had eaten a small breakfast on the ship, so I just ordered the tropical fruit plate. The fruit plate was fine, but the slices were kind of thin. One of my friends ordered huevos rancheros and they looked really good. Service was ok.
No. My husband and I just spent dinner here and were Not pleased. We didn't feel our waiter, bitter man, cared enough to care. He was very adrift and didn't want to meet any of our needs. While I can be demanding, we were gentle and pleasant due to being on our honeymoon and all.
Food was average, over priced, and I think we spent 2 hours mostly waiting for our food.
I don't offer a lot of negative reviews, and hardly consider myself a negative person; however, my visit was SOOO BAD I felt compelled to review this establishment with all honesty.
Such a cute and comfy place. Food was good, service was good and location was great. We sat upstairs on the outside veranda and once the sun went down, the air was cozy, people watching was fabulous, the server was funny and attentive. Great place to eat and hang out. A lot of restaurants are in old houses which adds to the charm and origionality.
Go there on a date or take the fam. BUT, as with a lot of these restaruants, be prepared to get out your wallet; it ain't cheap. And, be sure to actually look at your bill; the grat is added no matter the party size, which was our only dissapointment...but seems to be the standard for the area.
Brunch is excellent. The banana with rum french toast was delish. Â As was the mango mimosa. Â The spinich omelette was average. Â Sit in the indoor patio and you'll stay cool while enjoying the Duval Street vibe sipping on your brunch mimosas.
There is one word of caution -- and it may have just been our server and not representative of the establishment -- but when you order your breakfast and they ask you if "you want bacon, sausage or ham with that" ... it doesn't mean that it's included as a side dish. Â It was a bit misleading the way it was presented to us and we were surprised when the check came to find an additional $3.00 for the ham ... which we barely touched anyway. Â Although I brought it to the server's attention, all she did was shrug her shoulders and tell us it isn't included. Â All I have to say is beware with this kind of slight of hand thing to charge extra money. Â Had it not been for that, I would have given this 4 stars instead of 3.
If I could give negative 5 stars I would.
It was busy the night we were there. Service was a little slow, but understandable. Our server was friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable about their menu items.
I started with the PEI mussels in cognac cream sauce. They were very good. Nice quality mussels in a tasty sauce.
And then I went to the bathroom. Everything after that is a blur because all I kept thinking is "we should leave NOW". It was filthy. There was obvious and more than acceptable insect activity. Stains on the walls, molding, wainscoting, sink, faucet... I'm a fan of old architecture and I'm not talking about normal age and wear. Â The stains near the toilet were extremely concerning. My husband went shortly after and had a similar reaction.
Maybe it was an off night for them, but it really looked like the bathroom hadn't been cleaned thoroughly in years.
We stayed for dinner. Food may have been fantastic, but we honestly don't remember because we couldn't get over the bathroom.
Sorry Bagatelle. I think you probably have a great restaurant, but hire someone to clean that bathroom.
Update for myfavorite lunch spot. Also in my opinion one of the best spots in Key West.
My usual? Fresh Catch Fish Sanwich! Â Same thing each time.
Blackened or grilled both great. Fresh? You betcha! It's Key West.
Side salad in place of the veggies and a diet coke and you can't go wrong
Bagatelle is best!
After a little spat with my boyfriend I stumbled into Bagatelle for a much needed relaxation drink. Sensing my irritation Jack, the bartender, made me a special champagne mojito!!! A few sips later I was ready to kiss, make up & eat!!!
Upstairs we kicked off our delicious meal with a corn chowder soup followed by crisp crab cakes and a STELLAR whole fried yellow tail with a Thai curry sauce. O-M-G delicious!!!!!!
5 stars for this awesome restaurant. Bagatelle was not only beautiful but located right smack in the middle of the hustle & bustle of Duval. Add on the superb service and this place is tourista heaven! Â ;)
I was super excited about this restaurant especially the fish tacos. While the food was excellent the service was terrible. Two things in particular left me feeling unsatisfied they were:
1. We asked for the price of the drinks and the waiter told us they were all $7 to $9. But when the bill arrived we were charged $12 a drink.
2. In big and underlined text he wrote " tip not included. 20% is standard"
I am more than happy to give 20% tip but don't demand it
I had the pleasure of dining here for a rehearsal lunch for a good friends wedding. We had a selection of appetizers including: tuna tataki (sensational and so fresh), shrimp tiradito (loved) and crab cakes (I'm not usually a crab cake fan but these were good). While I love the beautiful porch and fabulous location there were a few mis-steps. For one- service. A dining partner broke her water glass and we all offered our napkins to clean up the water. These napkins were not replaced until requested later in the meal.
For my lunch I split the raspberry walnut & gorgonzola salad and the lobster BLT. I adored the salad- it had the right mix of fruit, to crunch in a nut and the powerful gorgonzola taste. However, $13 for a salad? When most of the dishes on the lunch menu were $9-$15. $13 seemed high for a salad that does not include a protein.
I also really really wanted to like the lobster BLT. Sadly it suffered from a too much sauce problem. I should asked for the sauce on the side or not there all together because it completely drowned out what could have been an amazing sandwich,
This turned out to be the perfect recipe for an iconic, Key West dining experience: Â
A charming Victorian, square on Duval . Â Make it face west where the sun sets, and paint it to match the pale yellow of evening that doesn't want to give up a hot day. Choose a table on one of two porches that wrap the house like a granny knit. Â Add favorite friends, plus a couple bottles of fruity white wine.
Order and gaze amazed at the fried, sweet gingered yellow snapper, positioned on  fragrant rice to appear as if he was caught and sculpted in mid swim.  Add one edible, dendrobrium orchid. Â
Plot and plan to return again.
Thank god for this resturant, it's one of the few that is not cheesy and filled with disgusting white trash people. Â Food was great, service was great. Â We were so sad when we went the next day for lunch and we just missed them shutting down before dinner. Â
This is definately a must if you want to find an actual decent meal in Key West.
Went here yesterday for lunch and it was fine. I had the following: Baja Fish Tacos and a Raspberry, Walnut, and Gorgonzola salad. The baja fish tacos were very good. The baja sauce definitely made the dish, as the tacos and the fish portion (Mahi for that day) were way too small for what I was paying for the dish. The tacos also came with tortilla chips for some odd reason and with nothing to dip them in, they were wholly useless and added nothing to the dish. I'd rather have a side of some kind or no chips next time. I noticed that a lot of their lunch items come with chips which baffles me. You have all these ingredients to choose from and you give the people pre-packaged tortilla chips? An odd and rather cheap choice.
The salad was good, but it is a very standard salad so there's nothing new to report there. I would order it again, but like I said, it's standard so don't expect anything new that you've never had before. The waitress and the rest of the staff were very friendly and they were excellent. I would go back again, but try to get something without chips next time.
I can't say enough about Bagatelle! A large group us sat upstairs on the patio, it was great. I started off with the beef carpaccio, it was great and I have been craving it ever since. Followed that up with a hearts of palm salad, and shrimp and scallops spicy pasta. All of it was amazing! The food was spectacular and the service was great. Also don't forget to try a side of the truffled mac 'n' cheese, it was a big hit at our table!
Bagatelle is conveniently located on Duval street by Mallory Square. I can not wait until my next trip to Key West to come here!
Bagtelles' was formerly another place can't remember the name - the new owner has done a great re-decorate. Colors lively , not a nail out of place - excellent art work and old blown up photos of KW. Lovely Victorian house wrap around deck ( w/ seating) Small bar as you walk in. Some times when season slow / bad weather they do not open the upstairs - so if no reservation u r sol.
My folks and I frequented Bagatelle on our stay last week.
New American food - seared Tuna w. Asian accent was good, they were accommodating about my eating disorder needs! Folks loved the pork over the smashed sweet potatoes.
Wines are middle of the road - nothing over the top by the glass.
The specialty drinks are a must try ( hell your in KW your liver will be trash by the end of the stay) The old Cuban was a stunning drink - best drink of the whole visit!
Abondonza to a nice , accommodating creative and warm place.
After a long day of walking around Key West playing tourist, we made it over to Bagatelle for a late lunch. Â I had called ahead to see how late they served lunch, which was an interesting experience. Â A girl with a heavy eastern European accent answered the phone and I asked "What time do you stop serving lunch?" as I noticed when we had walked by in the morning that their was a huge price difference between their lunch and dinner menus and I wasn't sure what time we'd be able to get there. Â She was confused and had no idea what I asking, so I tried asking again "What time do you switch over to the dinner menu?" This time she seemed to understand and said 4PM.
After our tour at the Hemingway House, we made our way over to Bagatelle and got there at 3:15PM, still in time for lunch. Â Luckily, the confused employee I talked to earlier wasn't there and we were promptly seated on the porch. Â The restaurant is nicely decorated in bright colors in what appears to be an old house, which was a welcome alternative to some of the cheesy tourist traps and shabby restaurants throughout the town. Â I got a little worried again when the host seemed to pawn us off on the bartender who was obviously trying to set up for the dinner service and when he came over the first thing he said was "Sorry to make you wait, but I guess I'll be your server..." Â I was afraid that he'd either be bitter about having to serve us or be distracted, but after he got over getting stuck with a table he was very attentive.
Given that we hadn't had breakfast and we were flirting with this being an early dinner, we decided to get an appetizer and went with the silders, choosing the kobe beef, ahi tuna and pulled pork. Â Both the kobe beef and ahi tuna were overcooked (both should never be well done in my opinion) and at $15 for three small sliders we were in essence paying $5 a slider when their 10 ounce burger with fries is $10. Â Worth it? Â Probably not, but the flavors made up for the preparation and we were hungry...but I wouldn't do it again.
For our entrees I got the Cuban sandwich and my wife got the "Southernmost Special" blackened which that day was dolphin. Â While the menu on their web page says they come with yucca chips, when we were there everything came with fries, but then again so does everything else in the Keys! Â At least it didn't come in a red plastic basket as most of our meals on our trip did, in fact everything including the overpriced, overcooked sliders were nicely presented. Â While the appetizer may not have been worth the price, the sandwiches definitely were as they were substantial and came with a ton of fries.
With a great location, pleasant decor and generous portions as far as lunch entrees are concerned, I would go back to Bagatelle the next time I'm in town. Â Dinner prices from what I can tell on the menu jump into the $25-30 range, so I'm not sure I would try dinner, but it certainly a solid place to go for a nice lunch if you want something more than a take out stand or a tourist trap like Margaritaville or Hard Rock Cafe without breaking the bank.
If you overlook overlooking the cruise ship people walking by, sitting on the porch here is rather delightful. It's Duval after all, so it will always be busy.
We stopped here for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. The waiter was attentive, and the seafood chowder was outstanding. The fish tacos were also very good.
And a nice Monterey chardonnay to boot. :)
I was hanging out with my coworker Jim from Alaska outside near the entrance at the Hog's Breath and I was really hungry. I knew that I would not like any of the food there so I decided to go across the street to Bagatelle.
I ordered Salmon, salad and escargo (if I am remembering correctly), and an Irish coffee, to go. The total cost was just under $60. It was Spring Break and as I waited there were some girls that were really drunk and acting really stupid to get free drinks, you know the usual. It was obvious that yes some people did take interest in the eye candy, but for the most part, Bagatelle is a more sophisticated location. So I quietly left since I am not flashing any skin and headed back to HB.
I sat outside of the Hog's Breath and ate. Everything was delicious, but the Irish coffee. The bartender was heavy on the Irish. So I have finally learned I do not like Irish coffee.
Bagatelle is a great place to eat any day, plus you can order to go. The bar and restaurant were very clean for as crowded as it was, and the bartender made sure my food was made to order.
