Who says  you can't get good bagels outside of NYC?
I was very impressed with the selection, quality and service at affordable prices.  The bagels are done just the way I like it.  As a former NYC'er who frequented places like the (now) famous H&H Bagels at 5:30am waiting for a fresh batch to roll off, my litmus test for a good bagel is to try  it plain, not toasted or with cream cheese, etc.  If it's chewy and tasty, it's good--if it's tough, dry, and/or taste like a hunk of dough, then it's bad.  Happy to say, Bagel Tyme's bagels pass my test with flying colors.
My favorite is their walnut honey cream cheese, on ANY bagel, especially raisin cinnamon. Â Or try the French Toast bagel with regular cream cheese.
It gets pretty busy on weekend mornings. Â For a sleepy little place like Kinderhook Village, it gets pretty packed, but service is swift and friendly. Â No Bagel Nazis here.
Best bagels ever!! I grew up in Kinderhook and now live in California, so I look forward to eating at Bagel Tyme SO much every time I go home. I'm there at least 4 days out of the week...usually more, whether it's for breakfast or lunch. It's always a great place to catch up with friends. Very inexpensive and easy and there are tables to sit at and talk. They also have coffee, hot chocolate, muffins, danishes, cookies, etc...
I have 3 favorites: the onion bagel toasted with veggie cream cheese (BT has the best whipped cream cheeses), a poppy seed bagel with tuna fish and tomato (the tuna is SO delicious, it has dill in it), and a sesame bagel toasted with egg & cheese.
There's no other place like BT! It's definitely worth a try if you've never been.
My FAVORITE bagel place. Â I grew up eating bagels at Bagel Tyme and every time I go back to Kinderhook I eat there at least once.
My favorite is "the works" or "everything" bagel with veggie cream cheese. Â The bagels are big and baked fresh everyday. Â The cream cheese is whipped which makes it taste so much better.
For a good deal, you can buy a bag of "day-old" bagels for a cheap price. Â On weekends expect to wait in line and be sure to go early - they often sell out.
It's bagel time! This cute bagel cafe is located near the center of Kinderhook. Bagel Tyme offers 14 different kinds of fresh baked bagels and 10 flavors of cream cheese, plus bagel sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, salads, soups, baked goods, cooler drinks, and hot drinks (coffee, tea, chai, hot cocoa). The bagels have a soft and chewy texture.
For me, it's a good place to unwind when I'm passing through the area or after apple picking at the nearby orchards. The atmosphere is very laid back and relaxing. The place is order at the counter with casual table seating and framed artwork on the walls. I enjoy one of their nice "made to order" bagel sandwiches (choice of any bagel/toasted) with a Nantucket Nectar Ice Tea while I read a copy of the latest Metroland. I've had the Chicken Salad and Chicken Patty Bagel Sandwiches (on toasted onion & tomato basil bagels, with lettuce, tomato, & mayo), which are both pretty good and tasty. Other bagel sandwiches (or on a hard roll) on the menu ($4-$6 range) sound good which include offer turkey, ham, roast beef, veggie patty, garden delite, tuna, egg salad, hummus, lox, and BLT.
NOTES: NYS Lottery scratch tickets available at the counter. Other locations in Hudson and Greenport.
