Great Michigan beers and good burgers, albeit not as good as Smashburger. Having lunch with my beloved. Men of Westminister, you  will like this place.
Being a fan of Michigan-centric concepts, I was happy to learn that Bagger Dave's is owned and operated by a native son.
They feature and highlight as many Michigan-produced products as they can, including quite a few Michigan microbrewed beers.
I'm happy to report that BDs more than fulfills their promise of a better burger.
My bride and I sat at the bar on a Thursday afternoon. Â Service was attentive and he obviously was a fan of the Michigan-centric offerings.
We began with a bowl of their Turkey Chili and Sloppy Fries.
The chili was quite tasty, traditionally-spiced with black beans and, of course, ground turkey instead of beef. Â It was offered with choices of onions, shredded cheddar, sour cream and pickled jalapenoes (which, by the way, I highly recommend; spicy, tart and *very* crisp). Â Tasty, as I said, but it could have been served a little warmer; it was borderline tepid.
The Sloppy Fries were outstanding. Â BDs uses a traditional Belgian 5-step process for their FF, which are a bit on the larger side (think halfway between shoestring and steak fry) so the texture is very good. Â Personally, I love my fries crispy, but these were very good with assertive potato flavor. Â They were smothered in 'Dave's BBQ', which is reminiscent of the Sloppy Joe's I grew up with. Â Also covered in cheddar cheese and jalapenoes, I ate every scrap.
As BDs is known for their 'build your own' burgers, I couldn't resist even though I had already eaten enough for two. Â I opted for the turkey patty with sharp cheddar and a number of other toppings, of which you only pay for the cheese, all others are included.
The burger was well-seasoned, tasty and paired nicely with the toppings, all of which were fresh, crisp and complementary. Â I must mention the bun, because as many of you know, can often be an Achille's heel to a burger experience. Â It was soft but substantial and did it's job of holding everything together. Â
Overall, I'm a fan of Bagger Dave's. Â I'm very happy they are open in the neighborhood and look forward to many experiences with them. Â I think they offer a far more compelling menu and dining experience to 5 Guys and absolutely blow away any of the mainstream casual dining chains in the area.
Definitely worth a visit.
