I came to Barhs after a hot beach day , mostly because of the view and distance from Sandy Hook.
We started off with the steamers which were, ehhh, terrible. The clams were cold and gritty and tasted borderline rotten. The broth was also cold and flavorless.
For my main I got the clam roll, which I wasn't looking forward to after the steamers. The breading on the clams was oily and was falling off. When you bit into the main body of the clam, it turned into a wet mess in my mouth (think soggy bread). Practically inedible.
When I walked inside to use the restroom, I was overwhelmed by a horrible mildew/mold smell that engulfed the whole restaurant. This could have been residual damage from Hurricane Sandy, but over six months later you would expect that it would have been able to recover in that time.
The only thing that is keeping me from giving Bahrs a one star is the great service. Our waitress was kind, attentive and quick.
I really WANT to like this place; it has a great location and vibe. The food, however, did not cut it. It is a shame given its location that it doesn't utilize the great seafood that the Jersey Coast has to offer.
I used to go here a lot many years back. Frankly, I forgot about it. Wanting to do a day trip down the shore today, Bahr's popped up in my mind overnight and we went for lunch.
It is evident that they had little to do no damage from Superstorm Sandy. If they did, they are hiding it well. Maybe Sandy Hook in front of it took the brunt and spared it.
It was quite good. Both my wife and I had Manhattan Clam Chowder and it was very good. Seasoned well. I ordered broiled scallops with french fries and my wife had steamers. The french fries were seasoned, needed no salt and the portion was reasonable (not a lot). For me, that is good.
Bahr's is off exit 117A of the Garden State Parkway and maybe a ten mile trip down Route 36.
The bill came to $68 with tip. I thought the steamers at $19.95 were a bit pricey, but - all in all - pretty much in line.
I am on a mission to find or re-find restaurants that can become regular events for our family. We put Bahr's on the list.
after a day at the beach this was a great place to go to. the crab cakes though not quite as good as the Faidley in MD lumb crab, it was well flavored and not overly salty. The staff was all so wonderful and friendy and the biscuit was awesome. im not from the south but i do like me a good biscuit and some bacon... i believe that i had the seafood platter it was heavenly, and my friend had fish i believe it was all wonderfuly and greatly cooked. i would totally come again and the staff was i can't express enough wonderful along with the food. it was all a great day when i went.
Review Source:Back when my family lived in NJ 30 years ago we enjoyed eating here a half dozen times a year...I still visit the area and find time to visit Bahrs. Don't fool yourself into thinking this is some haute slick restaurant where the service is buttery smooth or the food is arranged on the plate like artwork. It's not, and if you expect that you will be disappointed....You do get i an amazing view, outside dining if you choose, service that isn't pretentious or prefect but not bad either. The food always seems fresh and nicely prepared. I can't recall ever having a meal that I didn't enjoy. This most recent visit I had steamers & broiled fishermans platter. My girlfriend had salmon and everything was delicious and well prepared. We both left with our bellies full and feeling good, As usual. There is something magical about the Jersey shore and Barhs helps to make it complete
Review Source:I'd like to start off by saying that this place has a great view! The food is good. Like another reviewer had mentioned, it's really nothing to jump out of bed for, but add it along with the view and you've got a very good spot.
My girlfriend and I went there for lunch. She ordered a crab and corn chowder along with a crab cake sandwich. She said both were good. Since I'm not a big seafood person, I ordered a turkey club on toasted wheat. Not much to say about that since it doesn't require any cooking on their part and you can't really screw up a turkey club.
All in all, a good place to visit with a great view. They also have a place next door which belongs to them that I'd like to check out next time.
Great tasting seafood. The shrimp, fried oysters, casino clams and fried calamari were delicious. Â The local brewed beer, Carton Wit Whale Ale, was outstanding. However, their mixed drinks were weak and one in particular was so watered down it had no taste to it. Â I would come back for the food and stick to their beer.
Review Source:This is the second time we have been here after a day at the beach. Â We love the outside area to sit and have a seafood dinner. Â They are always busy so be prepared to wait. Â If you can get a seat on the patio, all the better. Â The food is average. Â Not great, but we would return. Â The seafood bisque is acceptable but nothing to rave about. Â I had almond crusted softshell crabs and they were way too heavily crusted, hiding the crab. Â He had oysters on the half shell and says their oysters are very good but was disappointed in the tilapia entree because it was just average.
Review Source:I LOVE Bahrs. Â I used to live with in walking distance. Â They have a much more diverse menu than Off the Hook which is another "seafood" place with in the same tiny area. Â Â
Food:
The Lobster Bisque is delicious.  So is the 7 Seafood Chilli.  SO GOOD.  They are normally at the Highlands Clamfest and always have really good steam plates.   I LOVE seafood so, I really like this place.  Yes some dishes are  little heavy on butter or spices.  Speak up say things go light on the butter or please don't spice it as much. Â
Decor:
I love the inside. Â It's got a nice back open window view, and a deck for outside dining on the river. Â I love it.
Service:
Has always been friendly and prompt. Â
Price:
A little higher than moderate, but it's seafood. Â
I'm glad to see they survived Sandy.
Loved this place in the past. Don't know what happened , but the last few visits were a huge disappointment. The food was not even average - fish did not taste fresh, the lobster bisque was too salty and  not even hot, the crab cakes had had strange taste to them so that we returned them. To top it off, the service was basically non-existent. Too bad - the location is nice and we loved coming here. But the place is going downhill...
Review Source:I've been coming here since I was two separate cells ... if ya know what I mean. Delicious fresh oysters and great clam chowder ... Manhattan! I always get the Bhars Seafood Sampler.... broiled. Awesome place to go after a long day at the beach and relax on their dock. Watch the boats go by and the sunset. The outdoor bar plays fun relaxing music.
Review Source:First and foremost I was very glad to see that this great landmark wasn't lost to Hurricane Sandy. We went here for Christmas Eve Dinner. Such a great atmosphere basically anytime of year, but really has such a cool holiday vibe mixing the sprinkle of some holiday snow against backdrop of this awesome waterside landmark right in heart of Highlands NJ-which is for sure one of the state's most charming towns.
We had an early reservation , we're seated immediately restaraunt was very empty at that point.
As you approach, if you didn't know any better you'd think this is a plain old' dockside dive. But as you make your way through this magnificent space you realize quickly how truly special this place really is!
Service was very attentive and friendly right from beginning. We had some appetizers and some soup which was so good. The NE Clam Chowder was amazing. Ceasar Salad was super fresh and very tasty. For main course, I has a Salmon with a Blue Cheese/Red Wine glaze that was excellent. My wife had Crab Stuffed Shrimp which she thoroughly enjoyed and my son had some popcorn fried shrimp which was solid.
Had some coffee and dessert which was fine.
By the time we were leaving this place was PACKED but completely evident service still looked to be right on point.
Overall, a very solid, safe choice anytime . They had the place looking great for holidays. Everything was done well and very efficient. Food is good, but ambiance and character was truly top flight. A thoroughly enjoyable experience for entire family . And was good to see thar in this special incredibly historic area of NJ that has been so devestated by Sandy, Bahrs remains a beacon of light and hope towards the future rebuilding of the Jersey Shore.
On a rainy Monday, just weeks after Hurricane Sandy, the place is gleaming , with magnificent views of the fog and the rain and the tide rolling in, and plenty of great cheer to be had for our septuagenarian, high school reunion, birthday brunch.  The service was great.  The food was great.  Owners Ray and Jay and Becky joined us at our table and introduced the gal from the Monmouth Journal who took photos, and maybe we get a write up about loyalty and long-time customers (50 years) and survivorship for  this iconic Jersey Shore landmark.  Go during the week, whatever the weather.  It'll cheer you up.
Review Source:I came here after a trip to Sandy Hook, and the food was really good! Â Also, the addition of the German menu is awesome. Â During Oktoberfest they have a full on German menu that more or less doubles the number of entree offerings. Â
However, I was really not in love with the prices, because I wasn't super hungry and there weren't any dinner offerings that weren't in the $20-30 range. Â But, that being said, its totally worth it if you ARE hungry, and want beautiful, fresh food. Â
The inside is really typical Jersey shore, slightly run down, salty dog atmosphere... which is A-ok to me. Â There are nice views of the bay and boats passing. Â Outside can be especially nice in good weather. Â Service was also good - our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. The best thing about it is that it's unique. The food is usually very good, but it can be hit or miss. I am a fan of the crab cakes and the chowder, and of course - the cole slaw and biscuits. Â
In the summer, there can be a bit of a wait and parking can be frustrating, but in the winter it's cozy and welcoming. We will always return to Bahr's.
We drove to Sandy Hook to take our 3 labradoodles to the beach. After swimming, we went to Bahr's. The weather was magnificent and the corner table at the outside bar was free (my favorite table). We ordered oysters -- fantastic; soup which we loved; steamers which are usually great were the best ever! Â One person in our party can't eat cream soup so she ordered another order of steamers - they were that good. Â The doodles had a hamburger and fries which I can attest to was perfectly cooked.
The service was great and food did not take long to come out even though the bar was packed. Â The patrons were lovely and very friendly people who asked if they could come and greet the doodles. Â Everyone had a fantastic time!
We had such a great day that we are doing a repeat tomorrow.
Very much worth the drive even if you don't go to the beach.
I have been there a few times. This place has good service and good view.
The food and drinks there were good also. Bahr a Cuda was a nice option for people that like a drink with rum.
We tried a crab chowder with corn that was delicious, certainly will try it another time.
The appetizer sampler was good, especially the fried calamari and the shrimp. The clams casino I will pass and will never order it again. Not sure if it was good or not, just not a big fan.
We also ordered the Bahrs Seafood sampler, very well fried.
Po'Boy, very nice flavor, the only bad thing is that a clam shell came along with the meal.
Sliced N.Y. Strip Sirloin Steak Sandwich, good sandwich.
In general a good place. But as with most seafood, it is not a cheap option.
I know I'm not alone in saying that aside from the view and friendly, attentive service, the food is pretty bad.
We decided after a long beach day to finish with a meal here. The place screams tourist trap from the outside but since Bahrs is one of the vendors @ the Monmouth Track seafood cook off which we try to get to every August, I figured let's give a try.
The inside also screams as the lobby sells all kinds of kitschy paraphernalia related to Bahr's. It's another red flag but since our kids were with us, tired and hungry, we forged on.
The entire place was permeated with the smell of stale grease. Red flag #3. Our hostess however was the 1st bright spot. She was personable and friendly. She engaged us in conversation and asked about our day. Our server was also very friendly and extremely competent. She even offered my kid a free ice cream at the end of his meal since his sister had one included w/ hers. Nice touch.
Now for the food. The biscuits were phenomenal, unfortunately they were the only good thing we ate. I normally would never fill up on bread at a seafood restaurant but I wish I had eaten more of those biscuits. Cole slaw was flat out tasteless. If you order anything fried, it will taste like every other fried thing you order which all tastes the the stale grease we smelled upon walking in. Sorry but it's true. Broiled shrimp and flounder were drowning in butter flavored grease. The glass of wine I ordered was a thimble-size pour. My husband even commented on it unprompted. I could have used more alcohol to obliterate some of the bad food.
This place so reminded me of Urie's down in Wildwood where I used to go on family vacations as a kid. There was a bit of nostalgia tied to this type of place. The view is beautiful and the service was fantastic but if you are going mainly for the food, go elsewhere.
My first time at Bahrs today in the rain. Â The other 2 gals go almost once a week. Â I'm glad I didn't read the reviews before going because I would have stayed home.
So, here goes. Â The biscuits were very good. Â I had the clams casino and they were excellent; really tasty. Â The broiled scallops were also excellent. Â Finally, for dessert, creme brulee which was very good. Â
The restaurant was very clean and the service was excellent. Â Joanna, our waitress, never went missing and every order was perfect. Â Thanks Joanna!
I love this place and try to get there every time I'm back in the USA (except perhaps during tourist season where its full of noo yawkers!). Â My preference is a bowl of clam chowder and a sam adams sitting at the bar as you come into the restaurant. Â the location is great and you can enjoy a great view of the river and sandy hook and the ocean. Â as for the rest of the food, the lobster is great or course and another favorite is the crab cakes. Â it might be a little pricey but worth it.
Review Source:You get lots of food for the money. Â Tired of dropping $100 for tapas and small plates in Manhattan and leaving the place starving? Â Bahr's is your salvation.
People who are bashing Bahr's don't understand what this place is. Â It is an old-school fish restaurant that keeps things simple, which is why Bahr's uses the same recipe for Manhattan Clam Chowder as the founders did in 1917. Â
The raw clams are exactly that. Â Raw, big and delicious. Â Bahr's brings them in fresh from the dock and serves them up. Â No fancy presentation. Â It's awesome.
Order anything from the local catch menu and you'll get the freshest meal you've had in a long time. Â For example, the sea scallops and stuffed flounder are home runs and you won't leave the table hungry. Â And Bahr's doesn't skimp on the extras like restaurants everywhere else do these days. Â Everyone gets some slaw, a hot vegatable and potato included in the meal. Â NOTE: Â I tried to order the Jersey Bluefish, but it sells out fast, so get there early.
Loved the Manhattan Clam Chower and the Lobster Bisque, which is served in a bread bowl. Â Speaking of lobsters, Bahr's has twin whole lobsters for $29. Â
Finally, if you don't want to wait for an outdoor table, try the outdoor bar. Â We had a few nightcaps before catching the ferry to NYC, watched other bar patrons being served huge portions of mussels, clams, etc, and I highly recommend the martinis.
After hittin up the PNC Bank Arts Center Garden State Beer Expo, my date and I needed some seafood and to sit by the water. Â So...we hit up The Dock at Bahrs Landing.
Perfect.
No ny tourists, just tanned, chill njshore locals...enjoying beers, clams and conversation.
My full lobster roll was sooooo deelish...and at $16, half the price of lobster rolls in the city AND much fresher. Â my date's soft-shell crab was so savory and meaty.
Love this spot for a relaxing Saturday late afternoon meal.
Dock and dine parking was full elsewhere, so we gave Bahr's a go. Â Great location on the water, great oysters and steamers, free rolls and cole slaw were good. Â Robert Irvine or Gordon Ramsay should be called in to fix the rest...
The service was non-existent, untrained kids probably working their first job. Â The calamari was a bit chewy and the rest of the fried seafood (clams, shrimp, fish of the day), while tasty, could have been frozen- won't say definitely, but wouldn't shock me. Â That would be a travesty for a restaurant on the water. Â The flounder sandwich was 2 pieces of fish on a sauceless roll with a sad tomato and wilted lettuce served with soggy fries. Â (Ketchup? Â Tartar sauce? Â Waitress? Â HELP!)
Walking inside to use the restroom was depressing; a huge space that looked as dreary as it felt. Â A friend with me (in the restaurant business) said he used to come with family years ago and the place had changed, only to realize the problem wasn't the changes, it was the stagnation.
I have been going to Bahr''s since I was in high school... have not gone in several years but yesterday was in the area.. Â the food was delicious BUT????? The steamers were not priced on the appetizer menu and when I got the bill? $19.95 for "MAYBE" 15-20 clams... I asked the waiter and he said "that's the price" Â This is RIDICULOUS!! More expensive than shrimp cocktail & you can get an entree for $5 more.. I complained to the mgr who said "we will discuss at our meeting" but did not ask for my name or phone number so of course it was a way to get me out the door... Sorry it is OFFENSIVE to not have a price on something that they know the price of... Lobster is sold by the pound so you can ask... but an appetizer of clams????
Review Source:My 400th review...woo hoo!
My gf and I were in the area from a previous engagement and we were both in the mood for some good seafood. This place came up tops on many people's list we had spoken to. We decided to try. We got their early so there wasn't much of a wait. We sat down outside and had a good view of the water. We glanced over the menu and I had to try their NE Clam Chowder to start out. It was good but I have had better. It was a bit watery than I am used to although there was a good amount of clam which made up for it. For a meal I went with the crab-cake sandwich. Too much bread and not enough crab cake. Then in between more bread made it too much. My gf had the salmon which she enjoyed. Their prices are on par with other seafood places we had been to down the shore. While we were eating the place was getting really busy (early afternoon). It's worth a stop but I wouldn't go out of my way to return (only if somehow was back in area).
Soup, bread are awesome. Super delicious. We got clam chowder and crab and corn soup... Perfect.
My friend ordered stuffed shrimp and it was delish.
I got tuna tower in Japanese style which was not great. I think it's not their expertise. But other food was good and they got a nice view from the big window over looking the ocean and the dock.
Family oriented place.
Big group - better to make reservation.
A party of two could wait for 15-45 minutes for weekend dinners.
We ordered to-go while sitting on the beach at Sandy Hook. Arrived to Bahr's and hung out at the bar with the lovely bartender and one salty dog. It took a bit (30 mins) for our order of 1 veggie sandwich, 2 lobster rolls and 1 fried clam roll but we weren't in a hurry.
Food was good and hit the spot, pre-PNC Art Center show.
I don't know if it's because I have gone here for most of my life. Â I don't know if it's nostalgia or the location or just that I'm always very hungry after spending the day down the shore... but I love this place and I am pretty confident that I always will.
I like the crabcakes and the flounder dishes. Â My son's had mako, which is not normally on the menu, and raved about it.
My husband did the German plate and thought that it was really good... but usually we stick to the seafood...
I could go there simply for a mug of the Manhattan Clam Chowder, some of their slaw and biscuits... and a cold beer or unsweet tea...
Don't ever change a thing because I plan on living another forty years and continuing with my ritual of stopping in at Bahr's after a wonderful day at the Jersey Shore !!!
I have eaten here several times over the last few years. Â Both in the busy summer season and 1/25/10, 12/9/10 which is their general slow season.
I have LOVED every meal! Â We've had the PEI Mussels, the clams casino, their cole slaw is awesome!, surf and turf, broiled fishermans platter, shrimp scampi, steamed crab legs, lobster bisque, crab cakes, and on and on. Â
I have found that their lunch service menu choices when served are not up to par with their dinner menu. Â Maybe their "real" chef is only on at dinner?
Their suggested wine pairings are thoughtful and well chosen. Â The drinks are always spot on. Â
I think the interior is really cozy and you do get the feeling that you're in a restaurant that has been around for close to 100 years. Â Its charming to say the least! Â The view only makes it better!
My only reason for not giving them a solid 5 stars is their wait service has been very inconsistent. Â All of the servers (particulary off season) have been super sweet, willing to offer suggestions and take requests. Â But, at times they've forgotten to place a drink order and screwed up a meal request. Â They're always quick to offer an apology when you can get their attention, though. Â This is definately not Bahr's strong point.
Lastly, as a local I always receive coupons in the mail. Â I generally never have them on me to use them. Â But at my last vist, I came prepared. Â In my haste, I didn't read the fine print too well. Â It states CASH ONLY. Â I had presented my debit card. Â Well, the hostess accepted it anyway! Â It was a 20% off for a meal of about $185. Â She didn't haggle one bit. Â No compromise, no arguments just gracious explanation and the offer to take the coupon anyway in consideration of the tickets amount. Â
They'll certainly see me and my seafood loving family many many more times!
After a long day at Sandy Hook on a Friday afternoon with my husband and two kids we decided to stop at Bahr's Landing afterward for a late lunch and to watch the boats from the outside deck. We started out with steamers and two pasta based kid's meals. We were just going to leave it at that, when our waitress passed by with an order for another table and there appeared to be a really good looking lobster roll on the tray (no hot dog bun in sight).
After confirming that it was in fact the lobster roll, my husband and I ordered a large one to split. I do not know what happened last year with our lobster roll, because this lobster roll was absolutely fabulous. First of all, it was big, on a real roll. My husband and I were barely able to finish it between the two of us. The lobster was perfectly dressed and the large chunks of lobster were not overwhelmed by mayo. The homemade chips on the side were a nice compliment to the roll. Â I don't know if Bahr's changed their lobster roll recipe since last year, or if we just got a dud on that trip, but I will definitely be going back for that lobster roll...often.
I love the atmosphere of the outside deck, my kids love the passing boats, jet skis and watching the ongoing construction on the new bridge. We even saw a jet skier get pulled over by a cop in a boat, a first for all of us seeing an in water speed trap! Â For us, Bahr's Landing is the perfect way to wrap up a day at the beach.
Ad day at the beach with a friend ended at Bahrs. You can't help but love the place when you roll up. It's right on the water and the atmosphere inside is second to none.
I'm from the west coast so lets just get this out of the way, the seafood here is not as good because it didn't seem as fresh but I'm have rarely seen places on the West Coast with an old world feel like this place has. Not even at the warf!
Some Grandmarinier to warm up my belly and then those biscuts you've read about so much in these reviews. I was stuffed when I left and I can't wait to go back.
Oh Dirty Jerz, when will I see you again? When I do, Bahrs and I have a date.
I don't know what the other people who have eaten here are talking about...
I still want my $100 back - what a waste of money!!
We decided that after a day at the beach, a nice dinner would be the best
way to relax.
Walked into Bahr's and by the looks of other people's plates, I should have trusted my gut when I didn't like what I saw. Yes, you get home made
biscuits that are flakey and hot - but that's the best part of the meal.
The coleslaw was bland and tasted store bought.
Got a bowl of lobster bisque that was rich and hot, in a breadbowl that
claimed to be sourdough (not really... sorry! I am from SF and it tasted
like french bread - nothing else)
Special salad - sliced tomatoes, fresh mozzarella drowning in oil and balsamic vinegar  (that would have been fine) but peppered with italian
herbs that might have well have been sawdust. Served over a bed of
iceberg lettuce and sliced red onion.
Main dishes: Bahr's seafood sampler (clams, scallops, fish and shrimp)
mediocre and felt like I could have gotten it at the buffet at Sizzler. My scallops were gritty and I kept biting into them and feeling sand in my teeth.
Other dish was tuna - ordered rare, with fresh corn salsa - they had to bring out another one because the tuna was brown all the way through.
Server apologized and said she had to order this three times from her kitchen!!
Service was good - food was not. Save your money and get on the road
to another destination for some seafood. The beer and wine helped
wash down this terrible meal.
Bahr's is yet another North Jersey Shore eating establishment. Â I think the Bahr family owns almost everything in Highlands. Â I probably just seems like it.
During the summer Bahr's can be pretty crowded when all the Bennies (anyone who lives north of the Driscol Bridge) come to town to enjoy the Jersey shore. Â I usually stay away during this time but come in the off season when it is mostly locals. Â No wait for a table.
You cannot beat the view and the atmosphere of Bahr's. Â On a clear day it is possible to see lower Manhattan and Coney Island. Â
There are some other seafood restaurants in the area that might be better but you should try this one at least once.  It even was mentioned by name in a Soprano's episode (the summer home that Tony buys and then backs out  of is just over the bridge in Sea Bright).
Moby's is an outdoor clam/lobster shack that shares Bahr's parking lot. Â At least once in the summer I like to have a lobster at Moby's. Â There is a deck in back overlooking the river. Â It is not fancy but it makes the summer.
Mmm.....seafood + ocean + boats + drawbridge = awesome dinner spot. Especially with the sitting outside and the breeze. Oh, and the awesome food. Let's not forget about that. We had the PEI Mussels (always an excellent choice, but their white wine sauce was phenomenal), and the coconut shrimp (totally not greasy! amazing!). Broiled fisherman's platter meant juicy huge scallops and amazing fish. Drool. Plus, they have a great dessert menu (the creme brule and peach tea definitely did it for me!). Sitting inside can make a more formal dining destination, but really outside is the place to be. They also have a lobster pound, and can pretty much give you any size or variety of cooking. Looks like a great raw selection also, for those of us that love that stuff.
Oh, and a little background: The place has been there since 1917, and is pretty awesome (old diving suits and whatnot decorate the inside). Frank Sinatra used to love going to dinner here, and more recently the cast of the Sopranos has been sighted (although I somehow didn't notice that between the amazing mussels and the succulent scallops). Â There's also a banquet hall overlooking the bay for parties. But basically, come and eat. I just got back and am already ready for more!
The first time I saw Bahr's was as I was out exploring the north central New Jersey coastline. As I was driving up Route 36 North, the highway crosses over the Shrewsbury River via the Highlands Bridge. As you look off to the right of the bridge - there looms Bahr's in all of its coastal seafood glory!
I was drawn to the place and knew I had to eat dinner there. So after a little more exploration - I stopped in for dinner. As it was March, the place was not very busy, but man o' man did the place ever smell good! Â I got a table, ordered a cold beer and some raw oysters, and settled in for what I anticipated would be a yummy evening!
As I waited, I noted that the decor is very rustic. There are lots of old nautical and fishing industry hardware adorning the walls of Bahr's. It gives it bit of an old historical feel to the place. The restaurant overlooks the confluence of the Shrewsbury River and Raritan Bay at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. Very scenic!
Well, the raw oysters were fabulous, as was the cole slaw and biscuits they brought out with my beer. I've dined at Bahr's a total of four times - I've also tried the clam chowder, the Caeser salad, the lobster bisque, the Seafood Sampler, and the Fisherman's Platter. All were excellent!
Bahr's also makes their own canned chowders available for purchase - as well as what has to be in my humble opinion - the best all around medium strength Habanero sauce I have ever tasted. Nothing fancy - not to hot - but lots of flavor and zip. When I first tasted it - I was astounded - I put in on everything - the raw oysters, the cole slaw, the biscuits, the chowders and bisque. I then proceeded to buy about 10 bottles of it to go.
Since then, I've ordered more Habanero sauce online from them a couple of times!
Bahr's - highly recommended!
This restuarant is always busy  because it has an incredible piece of real estate, not good food or service.  Not only is it on the river directly under the highlands bridge, the you can't miss seeing the restaurant when coming back from Sandy Hook. Â
I am really disappointed with this place's food. Â Their "famous" clam chowder blows. Â Trust me, there are much better places to get seafood in the highlands area. Â This place is for tourists.
A good place to eat once to say you did, but I've never been back, even though I'm always down that area. Â I would recommend eating outdoors at Moby's, Bahr's sister restaurant, which is right next door. Â It is relaxed, they have mostly fried seafood and raw bar
