I'll be honest... I've been going to Baker's Square weekly for a late lunch since the introduction of their Free Pie Rush Wednesdays. I choose this location due to its close proximity and their friendly, personable staff (especially Koman, Paul and Andrew). I go there with one to three people but also with four to seven people depending on the occasion. It can get crowded Wednesday evenings. Â I typically choose the Apple Walnut Chicken Salad Croissant or the French Dip sandwich (plain or with Swiss cheese). My family or friends have been satisfied with the chicken, steak and fish entrees. The sides offered are cole slaw, fries and fruit salad; you may want to have the fries and request the honey mustard dip with them. (Note: If something is wrong with your meal, they are more than willing to replace it immediately.) I don't really need to review their wide variety of yummy pies except that you can request it a la mode and they usually offer a "special" pie of the month.
Review Source:Food is exactly what you'd expect -- decent and reasonably priced. I've gone to this one quite a few times and I can't think of a place that interrupts you more often. No fewer than four times per meal, mid sentence you get interrupted with a question that must be answered. A
look and a smile is all that's needed in most cases.
love Baker's Square. It's a diner-like atmosphere with hospitable service. I've been to this location a couple times to have dinner with a friend. Last time I came here was back in Feb. I came with a friend in the evening and they had this awesome deal going on: 1/2 a sandwich with your choice of soup or salad and also a slice of pie all for 7.99 or 8.99. They had 2 menus to choose from different types of sandwiches and the grilled sandwiches were 8.99 and cold sandwiches were 7.99. Our server Amanda was nice and very helpful.
Review Source:What is there not to like about Bakers Square? The food can best be summed up in one word and four letters: IHOP-Dennish. The food there is what you can call your typical American diner grub although, their variety is a lot more refreshing than that of an IHOP or Denny's and, just like its national franchise counterparts, Bakers Square offers breakfast anytime.
The best thing about Bakers Square is the one thing that those other guys don't offer, namely, a slice of pie with any entree. What? That's right, you get a 3 course meal for the same comparably priced meal at IHOP or Denny's, and we ain't talking about just apple pie either, let's see, there's cherry pie, strawberry pie, pumpkin pie, peach cobbler, oreo pie, pecan praline pie...I'll stop right now because I'm starting to sound like Bubba Gump when he was describing shrimp to Forrest.
If you're looking for a fairly quick bite to eat and don't mind pie (what are you, a Nazi? Who doesn't like pie?) Go check out Bakers Square.
I LOVE this place! I have been to many other Bakers Squares in Chicago and outside of the city this is by far the best one of them all! The staff is amazing! The food is very good! The PIE oh my the PIE is to die for! Â This is a great place to meet with people both for business and pleasure I have had business meetings their and also bring my family over and over again!
Review Source:Sorry to be the "fly in the ointment", but my family and I just had the worst meal ever at this restaurant. Â Granted, the staff was pleasant and the restaurant clean and quiet. Â The disaster occurred when the food arrived. Â Both the grilled cheese sandwich and the patty melt were burned black. Â Although the cheese in the grilled cheese sandwich was not melted completely-go figure! Â The child's order of turkey and gravy was so dried out and small that I would not serve it to my dog. Â It looked like leftovers that had been reheated several times. Â It seemed a little ridiculous to send EVERYTHING back to the kitchen, so we kept it. Â We had decided to revisit this Baker's Square after receiving poor service at another Baker's Square, hoping this place would be better. Â We were sorely disappointed and will probably not be venturing into a Baker's Square for a meal again. Â It's a shame, because we've been regular Baker's Square customers over the years and we do enjoy their pie. Â The pie must be the only reason they're still in business.
Review Source:I like Baker's Square. It's dependable. Â You always know what you're going to get. Â In spite of that, I don't get to BS very often anymore, and was perturbed to hear that the chain was in financial trouble. Â I stopped there today with a friend for a quick lunch, and I did wonder what I'd find. Â Often places try to cut corners when they're looking at bankruptcy, thereby making the situation even worse as they alienate loyal customers with sub-par food and increasingly nasty conditions.
Fortunately Baker's Square -- this one at least -- has not succumbed to the cost-cutting trend, at least not in any obvious way. Â The place was clean and attractive, the staff was friendly and attentive and the food was as good as ever. Â My cobb salad was very, very fresh, and the portion was as generous as ever. Â My friend had their fish special and said it was excellent. Â I believe him since he cleaned his plate. Â He also polished off a sizeable hunk of carrot cake while I indulged in my favorite: triple berry pie. Â The iced tea refills were free, and the prices were reasonable. Â
I brought a whole cheesecake back for the workmen who are doing the reno at my place, and my bill for both lunches and a hefty cake was only $40. Â Darn good for what we had and the service we were given.
It's easy to forget the dependable chain restaurants when you're on the lookout for something new and interesting. Â But there's a lot to be said for the familiar, the moderately priced , and the honest, simple style.
I used to come here all the time back in high school. Â I stilll come here every once in a while with family and friends from the neighborhood. Â Â
It's a chain restaurant, duh. Â But it's not half bad. Â Burgers, foccacias, pitas, pastas, soups, salads, and the pies. Â Greasy but not too greasy. Â Nothing super healthy on the menu but tasty. Â They always have monthly specials and what not. Â The pies are sooooooo good. Â Different cream pies and fruit pies. Â Always fresh. Â Always delicious. Â Always calorific. Â
Nice quiet place in the neighborhood if you feel like relaxing a little and chatting over pie and coffee.
One more thing, I bring my developmentally delayed uncle here sometimes and the staff is so sweet to him. Â They always give him special attention. Â A lot of the staff have worked at this location for many years so I think management treats the staff well. Â A staff that likes where they work always makes me feel good!
How bizarre that there's a tv commerical on for this place RIGHT as I am writing this.
It is what it is -- an adequate chain place to grab a meal if you're way the hell west.
The menu has plenty of high-fat selections, the food is served quickly, and at the right temperature. I'm not saying that it isn't tasty. Service is pleasant and responsive. I would like it to be a tad cleaner than it is but that isn't enough for me to completely rag on it.
I don't need to tell you about dessert, right?
Sooo many memories of coming here on those late nights after work... *happy sigh*
Decently nice waitstaff at this location. There is also a parking lot (in case you care).
Pretty good food. Sandwiches, soups, salads, oh my! Everything I've ever gotten from here has been good. I remember especially liking the slow-roasted turkey foccacia. Mmmmmm...
The pies...yummmm (if you get the right one). My picks:
Banana Cream
Coconut Cream
Any of the apple pies
Pecan
Caramel Apple Pie a la Mode (OMG! Best ever!)
So as I sit here and wipe up my drool, I wonder...
I've Baker's Squared lately. Have you? :)
I used to live a couple blocks away from this restaurant which made it very easy and way too tempting to get my hands on that French Silk pie! Â This particular Baker's Square has always been a favorite of mine. Â Maybe it's just a sentimental thing, I don't know. Â But I love their chicken fajita pitas, the Works Burger, and the raspberry iced tea. Â And the pies, oh yes, the fabulous pies. Â The Lemon Supreme, infamous French Silk and the (when in season) fresh raspberry pies are to-die- for.
