Hot & Heavy Burlesque

Full disclosure: I've worked with the good folks of Hot-n-Heavy in other projects around town. So, I'm not a total noob to what they do.

That said, let me tell you why Hot n Heavy is one of my most favorite troupes in town!

Most of the HNH shows are scored by a single band or album. (ie, "Dark Side of the Moon" burlesque or "Queen" burlesque or "Journey" burlesque) and all of the acts are costumed, staged and choreographed to compliment the music. HNH's artistic director, Viva La Muerte, has an amazing ear for the best rock music out there and she's not afraid to turn the volume up, at her shows

Watching one of her Pink Floyd shows, is a revelation. The music is amazing and the visuals onstage perfectly match the mood of the scene. There are moments of raw, unfiltered beauty in these shows, staged with thrilling theatricality that has to be seen to be believed. In short, these are damned good shows!

Also, because Viva is such an amazing person to work with, she casts performers from troupes all over the city to come together for her shows. In any given performance, you'll see nearly 30 people in her shows, representing some of the most distinguished burlesque troupes in Chicago. Everyone wants to work with Viva.

I make it a point to see every HNH show, early in the run. Because often, I want to come back and see them again, before the go away. (Saw their version of "The Wall" 4 times.) You should do the same.

Just saw the final night of the tribute to the wall. Phenomenal !! I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan, but knew nothing about burlesque and I loved it !! It wasn't trashy at all and he girls in Hot and Heavy seem to have been professionally trained in dance. I was just blown away by this show because I've never seen anything like it. I will be returning in the fall when they do Dark Side of the Moon. Fabulous!

Viva really knows how to put on a great show!  Whether it's a tribute to The Wall or Spinal Tap, nobody does rock 'n' roll burlesque like the Hot & Heavy crew.  A must-see!
