This area of Jimmy Carter Blvd doesn't have many sit down restaurants. Â When it comes to finding a sit down American food restaurant it's slim pickings'. Â I work in the area and have lunch at Barnacle's once a month or so. Â
The Braves were playing a day game yesterday so a co-worker and I planned our lunch at 1:00 p.m. so we could catch the first two or three innings of the game. Â Barnacle's has plenty of televisions. Â Some may need to be retired. Â I wouldn't be surprised if they have one of my old televisions from the early 90s. Â
When we arrived we were seated immediately. Â I ordered the fish tacos which come with chips and salsa. Â I chose the grilled fish versus fried or blackened and fries instead of chips and salsa. Â I've had the fish tacos here before and really liked them. Â This time they were mediocre. Â They didn't skimp on the fish. Â The flavor was just lacking. Â They came with tartar sauce. Â I put it on the tacos. Â I think the cook put it on the plate in error. Â It didn't jive with grilled fish tacos. Â As for the fries, they were cold and a bit over-cooked. Â I'm rating this visit with 3-stars. Â Service was good. Â Maybe a bit too good. Â Our server checked on us many times and re-filled our drinks on a couple of those visits. Â I will say she made me feel rushed. Â At one point I looked at my co-worker and said, "Maybe I should ask her if she wants to help me finish my fries." Â She desperately wanted to take my plate though I wasn't finished eating. Â
I'll be back. Â It's convenient to my office. Â I wish there were more food options on this side of I-85. Â Jimmy Carter Blvd is a little sketchy and always congested with traffic so closeness is a plus. Â I wonder if Jimmy Carter would walk down Jimmy Carter Blvd these days?...
Pretty happy with $2 Friday pints on a Tuesday :) The "Special Instruction" lines in the receipt make me sound like the Sandwich Nazi. Waitress (Sally) suggested Queso & Bacon on a Philly Chicken... Awesome! And I had something to dunk my fries in. Migrated to bar and Sasha was a great bartender - very knowledgeable on brews. I heard somewhere that the "house-branded" beer was like "watered-down beer (Natural Light)" - and after tasting it, she gladly swapped-out for something more interesting. Kudos for suggesting others. This place *does* need something a little more "exotic" in the draft beer category aside from the local Sweetwater 420 and Michelob Amber Bock. I was happy to at least see Yuengling on tap. All else was domestic. Reasonable, tasty bar food and respectable drink prices.
