The ambiance alone will make me return. Â I can listen to the blues all night long. Â
Drinks were a bit steep. Â Truffle Fries were on par. Â Their freshly made Burrata was on the salty side, and I liked it. Â Their Wild Louisiana Gulf prawns weren't bad. Â What made this dish was the creamy garlic sauce. Â We ended up asking for more bread for dipping. Â Speaking of bread, their sea salt butter was kind of addicting. Â Â Â Â
On my recent visit, we had the "BBQ Style" Grilled Skirt Steak. Â The aromatic Chimichurri sauce on the steak was delightful and almost refreshing...not like the average bold style BBQ sauce people expect. Â
We also had the One and Only MacFarland Trout Filet...THE dish that stole the show. Â After savoring the amazing crispy skin on this fish, I can see (or taste) how they named it their One and Only. Â
My first visit was a solid three star experience. Â But with better service, unforgettable fare, and a lively kitchen on my recent return....they truly made me a fan!
After reading several yelp reviews we decided to try the Basin. The place was hopping for a Tuesday evening. The waitress was extremely  knowledgeable and enthusiastic when describing the specials. My beet salad appetizer was lovely. Yellow and red beets were topped with match stick cut apple and four orange slices surrounded the plate and sprinkled with tarragon $10.  I ordered a small plate paella as an entree and was not disappointed.  We also ordered the Haibut special that was sitting atop of finely cut yellow and green zucchini and tomatoe, it too was delicious $36. My only comment was that the wait time between courses was lenghty but our s erver was so nice and reassured that our food would be out soon. Wines were pricey and white by the glass started at $10. I'd try it again.
Review Source:Dropped in with only five minutes notice. They were able to accommodate our party of seven. We all were very pleased with our meals and service. The only criticism is that the patio is so dark every table was using their cell phone or a candle to read the menu. I understand ambiance but really? Turn up the lights just a bit.
Review Source:I want to comment on the remarks made by the customer below that said the owner of the Basin 'grabbed' his phone and felt threatened. I was there at the time at the owner politely asked the gentleman to turn off the music that was playing on the cell phone and disturbing other patrons...including myself. The owner asked twice to have the phone turned off and was ignored. It's people like this that hide behind Yelp and make outrageous claims that harm small businesses. I for one hope that they never return to The Basin again.....That said... if they did return they would be treated with respect by the owner and staff.
Review Source:Crazy owner who grabbed the cell phone out of the hands of a friend and threatened everyone at the table after spending quite a bit of money on dinner. It was an unbelievable experience, shocking and probably illegal. Don't  know what to say other than it was a very scary experience for my friends visiting from another country. I would say stay away from this place if you looking for a late night dinner. no stars.
Review Source:Hands down, this is the best restaurant in the South Bay. Andrew and his team are phenomenal. The food is consistently fabulous. The only downside is that they have so many faithful regulars that you have to make your reservation at least a week in advance for a decent time on the weekends. Of course, this speaks to how amazing this place is.
Review Source:My first time at The Basin. The restaurant ambiance was great our waiter was good, the food was amazing. It was just unfortuante that we were never offered dessert. When the hostess asked us how everything was, we told her the dessert was the best. The hostess politley asked what we had... we told her we were never offered dessert, we just received the check. The hostess went to get us a dessert menu and offered us dessert. After 30 minutes Bread pudding and ice cream arrived at our table,
Keep in mind our dinner was very good. The dessert was bread pudding with pecans cooked in rum. The bread pudding looked like texas french toast and had no pecans at all. It was a total disappointment. So I suggest a nice dinner at the Basin, and get dessert somewhere else. It was a total bummer, whenI could taste it before it came out and was totallly
disappointed.
One of my favorites to dine. Â I have been here many times (8-9)
and have never been disappointed. Â One of my favorite dishes is the crab pasta. Â Amazing flavors that really wow the palate. I've had many small dishes and seafood dishes and have always left knowing I would be back for more.
Andrew is great!. He is always polite and eager to make sure you enjoy yourself. Â
Put this on your list as a place to at least try once. Â You will happy you did.
Nice place for dinner before a Mountain Winery event
Perfect beet salad
Arrabiata pasta was authentic and spicy
Bread pudding was good
Homemade ice creams are over the top
Tasty coffee drinks
Nice wines by glass
Inside and outdoor (heater and covered) seating
Friendly, but uneven food service
Great food as always. Â Came here with the family for dinner and everyone enjoyed themselves.
I had the lamb sirloin which was amazing, although the side of black eye pea salad with red onion, mint, celery and aged spanish sherry vinegar left something to be desired.
The Caesar was not what I was expecting...more thick balsamic then Caesar, but good none the less.
The Exotic Mushroom Rigatoni was amazing as was the fish special and  Grilled Skirt Steak "BBQ Style"...the steak was cooked to perfection and melts in your mouth.
Some great dishes, and some OK dishes.  Appetizers  - pata negra ham, paella pequena, truffle fries were all awesome.  Caesar salad and a weird cheese wrapped in cheese thing were just OK.  Main dishes - duck was perfectly cooked, bowl of soul were great.  Halibut was good enough.  Bread pudding for dessert was also great.  So, probably 3-4 stars for food.
Service was poor. Â Not horrible. Â But when you pay these prices, you're paying for the whole dining experience, which absolutely includes the service. Â Our waiter was unattentiave, rarely stopped by the table, took forever between courses (not the kitchen's fault - tables around us didn't have the same problem). Â
Probably would not go back for these prices. Â Would much rather get amazing Thai food at Bai Thong across the street!
The Basin is one of those places I really want to like. It's near my home, has fairly healthy food and a nice menu. The service is very nice. The food is good, but not great but for the price it should be spectacular. The decor is nice although it is quite dark and rather loud inside. It was busy but not crowded.
For Mother's day dinner my wife and I had a beet salad and burrata appetizers, a seared tuna dish and I had a double order of a shrimp appetizers as my entree. We each had a glass of Alsatian riesling. I had side dishes of truffle fries and spicy kale. We had dessert at home.
My wife liked the burrata (not my kind of thing) and said her tuna was nicely seared and rare in the middle. My beet salad was a little over-dressed. It had a nice dressing on it but nothing spectacular.
I got plenty of shrimp, but they were a bit overcooked and the sauce was really peppery. When it came my wife tasted the sauce and immediately started drinking water. I like spicy food but it surprised me, since the menu didn't say it would spicy and since I had ordered the spicy kale I had a fairly spicy meal, which was not a good pairing for the riesling. The truffle fries were nicely crisp but we couldn't see or taste any truffle. As far as I could tell they were just fries. The kale was ok but cut into such large pieces it made for comical eating. I'm glad it wasn't a first date....
The bill, with a 20% tip for the nice service, came to $160. That's just too much for what we got.
This was our second trip to The Basin and likely our last. There is so much good food in Silicon Valley now you don't need to spend that much to have a really nice meal in a really nice place. Pity.
I was pleasantly surprised and got a last minute reservation on New Yrs Eve. We decided to bring our own bottles of wine since the corkage fee was $20. I think the menu was different due to it being NYE, but I remember the spicy kale being really good and unique! never had kale at a restaurant before.
Review Source:Sustainable Ling Cod served on a bed of Julianne carrots was exquisite. My friend enjoyed the Carbonera. We shared cheesecake and a Basin sundae for dessert - delicious. The atmosphere in the restaurant encouraged conversation and relaxation. Service was excellent. Would definitely return again.
Review Source:Took My date there as a surprise, Never been there before and it was awesome! excellent food, organic fresh everything I wanted finally a restuarant that cooks better than I can ever attempt and I loved that old oak tree in the patio and our waitress Teresa kept us happy a nd cozy. The beet sald OMG!
And the home made dessert (ice cream) was mouth watering! I definately look forward to going back!! and the apple tini's were the best I ever had EVER!!! thankyou thankyou, I made a nice impression on my 22 year realtionship :) date XO
Mashed Dreams
I love the Winter Chicken, unfortunately  it's seasonal and they took it off the menu two days prior. The chef said they didn't have the ingredients to make the it so I was out of luck.
I have heard wonderful things about the NY steak so I thought I'd try it. I asked for mashed potatoes and the chef said they couldn't exchange the roasted potatoes for mashed. The steak was average for $50. The service was exceptional, like always. The owner was very pleasant.
The only issue I had is that if I buy a $50 steak and ask for a simple exchange like mashed instead of roasted potatoes the chef should make it happen WITH OUT QUESTION. We spent over $450 on dinner and I couldn't get mashed potatoes.
Ill definitely be back, but only during the winter for the Winter Chicken and MASHED POTATOES!!!
Came here for a coworker's birthday dinner, and other than the atmosphere, which was already rather typical, I really don't have anything good to say about this place.
It's my fault for assuming that "small plates" didn't actually mean "microscopic plates", because despite my petite size, the pork belly sliders I ordered were just ridiculously small for any-sized human. And cheap. Not even two halves of a bun around each piece of pork belly, just one. Maybe cheap store-bought half a bun, then a roughly 1.5 x 1.5 inch slice of pork belly on top. Just two of these masterpieces on a plate. Pork belly is what, let's say...make it a stretch..$4 a pound? So you're getting basically..5% of a pound there for each piece of pork belly..which would cost the restaurant 40 cents total. And they charged me $11 for two of these. Like I said, it is my fault for not ordering a proper entree, but charging such an exorbitant amount for something you can barely taste because it's so tiny is not okay. I got two small plates, the "sliders" and the "croquettes". The croquettes were 3 tiny balls of random fish/chicken soaked in marinara sauce. Yeah, again, not impressed with the size.
The entrees may have been slightly better, but from what I saw, the portions were still not worth the money. Come on, it can't cost much to make a mushroom pasta.
Also, the waiter was describing the specials and I swear he was reading a novelette. He recited about 500 words and didn't let anyone get a word in til he was done. Yeah, awkward and unnecessary, can't they just print out a list?
I don't think I'd ever come back. It's not a place for people who expect their food to be priced reasonably.
Just came back from the Basin and had a disappointing experience.
the food was good as expected and this is why they're not getting a single star but outside of that the overall adventure was bad. We ordered a table a week in advance and when we got there the table wasn't ready and they didn't really seem to care. After we waited for about 15 minutes they advised us to sit outside since there will be no room for our strollers in the table they arranged for us (we had 2 strollers and we said we will when we made the order).
After we sat down - behold we fit with our two strollers - the waiter was very reluctant to assist us. he didn't show up and when he did we got the feeling he was doing us a favor. when my friend asked for another napkin the waiter literally picked up the napkin from his knees and asked if this is not enough for him?! we had to explain to him our reason for asking an additional napkin...
Last after we asked for a dessert menu the waiter went to bring the menus while mumbling something to himself.I don't know what he said but at this point we all felt we was saying some nasty things about us
bottom line - this was my third visit to the Basin and my last. I hope they realize they are not god given gift to human kind.
G.
Came here with my fiance and his family to celebrate his grandmother's 80th birthday - was really surprised to have gotten a table on OpenTable the same day! When we arrived, the place was basically packed - the restaurant is smaller than I expected but has a nice ambiance and lighting so you feel as if you're isolated from the other tables even though you're very close to them.
It took us awhile to decide what to order, but we went ahead and ordered a mix of small plates, salads, and entrees so we can try various dishes! Here's what we ended getting:
- delicious and soft bread but came with cold butter that was really hard to spread (no good!)
- klinker brick 2010 Zinfandel - I'm not a wine person at all but this was actually pretty good! I'm seriously considering getting this for our wedding in September!!
- brussel sprouts - extremely delicious & healthy-tasting...I always read horrible things about brussel sprouts but they make it super good at The Basin!
- flat bread - yummy, no complaints whatsoever
- prawns - my fiance & his parents own a seafood business & they were very impressed with this dish, enough said!
- albacore slider - this was NOT one of my favorite dishes. it actually came recommended by our server but it came with 2 extremely SMALL slider and the presentation definitely wasn't their best (and NOT friendly for family-style!)...
- Caesar salad - not over-dressed at all & very delicious and refreshing
- arugula salad - also very healthy and yummy (but personally I'm not an arugula fan...)
We also shared the following entrees:
- NY steak
- winter chicken
- halibut with risotto
All 3 entrees were made almost to perfection - super delicious and can't complain at all! We were very impressed and had almost no food left over because we just couldn't stop ourselves from eating more!!
We were SO full by the end of the meal that we couldn't even order dessert, but they were super nice & offered a complimentary chocolate lava bomb (cake)...SO good!!!!! I wish we weren't that full so we could have another one!!!!!
Service was great from the moment we sat down. They were very good with switching out utensils for each plate/dish that we ordered & provided extra plates for sharing family-style. The only complaint was one of the servers decided to rush through his service and filled my wine glass before I had a chance to cover it (I didn't want anymore since I had enough!)...I would have preferred if he had given me a chance to voice my opinion before deciding to fill up my glass again...
Loved The Basin! The menu is varied and features many organic and locally grown selections, plus specials were offered and requests were accommodated. My friend couldn't decide between two pasta dishes and the waiter suggested she get two half portions of each. Worked out perfectly. I had a nice halibut.
Food was a bit on the pricey side, but portions were generous, delicious, and beautifully presented. Wait staff seemed to work well together, and we were well taken care of.
I just returned from an early dinner here it it was pretty tasty. Â I had the Beet salad as well as the Burrata and tasted the Arugula salad as well as the gumbo. Â I thought the Burrata and the Beet salad were very nice. Â The Burrata was fresh tating and the Beet salad was light, but still flavorful. Â The Aruguala salad was pretty good too and best of all, the portion was fairly generous. Â I felt the weakest dish was the Gumbo. Â It definitely needed stronger flavors and was much lighter than what I would come to expect out of a gumbo.
The service was decent. Â I was a bit annoyed near the end of our meal, as it was fairly difficult to flag down our waiter in order to request the check.
3.25/5
We went here to celebrate an occasion and weren't disappointed at all. The ambiance was great and so was the service. We had some of the specials, drinks and the main dishes. Each was great.
Of course, it is also very expensive and I do not see myself eating here very often. But it is great for a celebration or the likes.
Superb service... from the Executive Chef himself... couldn't mask some issues that may have gone unnoticed in a less expensive restaurant, but were highlighted at The Basin.
Our waiter was friendly and helpful, but he didn't seem to know very much about the menu. Â When my friend asked what reds would pair well with his steak, the waiter seemed to indicate all the reds would be good matches. Â Maybe they were, but his job is to make some astute recommendations; I'm sure some reds were better fits than others. Â When I asked what kind of oysters they were serving, he only knew that they were from BC, but didn't know whether they were briny, sweet, minerally... Â Regardless, the oysters were plump and sweet, just the way I like. Â However, $3 a piece? Â Yikes.
Our entrees arrived in record time-- probably about 5 minutes after I finished my oysters. Â My braised beef short rib was cooked to perfection. Â Meat was falling apart to the touch. Â But, a big gaffe. Â As Head Judge Tom Colicchio would say, under-seasoned plus seasoned does not equal seasoned. Â In my opinion, the beef was woefully under-seasoned and craving a hit of salt. Â In addition, the broth, which was supposed to have red wine in it mysteriously lacked some acid-- it was kind of a flat peppery broth. Â So, together, I had an extremely tender but somewhat flavorless piece of short rib. Â
The next rather bizarre part of the meal-- we finished our entrees just short of 7pm, and because the entrees had come out in record time, we thought we would certainly have sufficient time for dessert (we had a concert at 8pm at nearby Montalvo). Â But, it took almost 25 minutes for the dessert to make its way. Â The executive chef brought the desserts out himself (very nice touch), and was even kind enough to go get the check since we were in a rush. Â I like humility in a chef. Â (And great to see an Asian make it to the top at a Western restaurant). Â Unfortunately, my homemade sorbets were a bit of a miss. Â A flavor like champagne was incredibly inventive (and tasted like champagne!), and the strawberry and mango flavors weren't overwhelmingly sweet, but the sorbet consistency came out more like Italian ice than sorbet. Â
The service was always cordial, just not always top notch. Â And the food was good but had some execution issues. Â Given the high final price $85 for my meal, some of these mistakes were just too much to overlook.
Despite the fact that it has two of the finest restaurants in the South Bay (Sent Sovi and Plumed Horse) I don't often think about Saratoga when thinking about where to eat. Â However, I had a friend coming in from the other side of the hill and thought this sleepy little town would be a nice place to meet. Â Decided on The Basin, based on its reputation as a nice, casual place for dinner. Â
First impression upon walking into the place was that the dining room was cozy and inviting, although smaller than I imagined it would be. Â Upon further inspection there is a back dining area (past the kitchen) and outdoor seating.
Our waiter was a a tad bit overly eager to take our drink order. Â My friend and I were trying to catchup, and he came by twice before we really had a chance to look at the menu. Â But, I suppose that's better than being ignored altogether. Â After getting our drink order (after we were finally ready), we received a detailed description of the specials.
Generally speaking, the cuisine at The Basin leans toward Spanish and Italian, and it was hard to pick an entree from the variety of delicious sounding dishes. Â I finally settled on the braised short rib, which was a perfect choice for that cold soon-to-be winter evening. Â It was served over a bed of grilled polenta with, as the put it, "exotic" mushrooms. Â My friend ordered the seared ahi fish special. Â For a starter, I ordered the days soup, a butternut squash puree with almonds and Amaretto. Â It was a disappointing start to the meal. Â The soup was a bit thin, both in flavor and consistency. Â To be honest, on my worst day, I could make a better butternut squash soup.
The main dish, however, was outstanding. Â It was all everything a braised short rib should be: achingly tender, richly flavorful and, in the end, deeply satisfying like few meals can be. Â My friend's ahi was nicely prepared and apparently quite fresh.
Although I was nicely full and ready to pass on dessert, our waiter mentions that the housemade ice cream special was a maple ice cream topped with pancetta. Â I am a sucker for the savory and sweet combination and succumbed to my addiction. Â The ice cream was delicious, with rich maple flavor. Â The salty counterpoint from the pancetta was nice at first, but the finish was too meaty. Â I think regular smoked bacon would have been a better fit.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience at The Basin, although there is definitely room for improvement. Â I would certainly consider coming back to see if I can bump the score up a bit. Â The potential is definitely there.
Great restaurant in Saratoga. Â The staff was super friendly and helpful. Â I had the Penne. Â Light, tasty with a little kick to it. Â Exactly what I was hungering for. Â
They have a big bar with a TV. Â Great for kicking back and watching a game. Â
My of my new favorite spots in Saratoga.
I ordered the NY steak and I cant describe how amazing it tasted. Not only did it taste great, it was HUGE! Broccoli was cooked just right as well. This place is one of the BEST restaraunts in the bay area if you want a comfortable, relaxing environment with food that will leave more than satisfied!
It was worth the cost of dinner and wine! I would recommend this place to anyone.
I thought I wrote a review for this already ...
I am a fan of this place. I love their appetizer which was the Littleneck Clams but they have taken that off the menu. I swear it was the best clams I ever had. We also order their special of the night which was Dungeness Crab Pasta which was a little on the sweet side for me. Need to add a pinch of salt to it. As for the The One and Only MacFarland Trout Filet was delicious. Love the fried crispy skin of the fish.
Overall, this place is good for dinner and somewhat kind of hidden. Their service was terrific and prompt.
We had our rehearsal dinner at the Basin a few weeks ago. Â The Basin is one of the few restaurants around that is decent that has a separate room that you can use for your event without an additional fee or food/beverage minimum. Andrew one of the managers was great to work with. He was good about responding to emails and the venue called the week of the rehearsal dinner to confirm the head count. Â I also liked how we weren't limited to a minimum/person, which you will find at a lot of restaurants especially when they hear any words related to a wedding event.
They made a special menu for our dinner with our preselected salad/soup and main entree's, and drink selections. We choose to order a appetizers and place them out family style. We had two servers care for our party of 22 for the evening. They were very attentive. Our group really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. If we even have a special event in the future with a large group of people I would come back again to the Basin.
The bar has a great atmosphere to it, probably my favorite in Saratoga. It is laidback, but serves great old-style cocktails with unique liquors and mixes. The bartenders will listen to what you like and are very knowledgeable. There is a TV if you're trying to watch a game, too.
The dinner menu is not super expansive or anything unique, but all the dishes I had were great. The wine list was impressive, and the owner came to greet tables. Absolutely a great time, a festive place, and yummy meal! Will be coming back (even if just for the cocktails)!
My boyfriend and I went to the Basin before seeing a concert at the Mountain Winery.  We didn't have reservations but were given the option of sitting at the bar or at one of the high tables right by the kitchen line.  Having worked in restaurants for a long time, I like seeing what's happening in the kitchen, listening to the chef expedite the orders  and seeing the orders going out.
We ordered a couple of salads (the ice "burger" and the tomato), the croquetas, truffle fries, wild louisiana gulf prawns, and the pan roasted chicken. Â We started with the croquetas, which were nothing memorable. Â Actually, I only remember that the flavor was a bit bland, and I couldn't actually tell what I was eating. Â Was it chicken? Â Was it fish? Â I had to look at the menu again to jog my memory. Â
Next we got the salads. Â The tomato was gorgeous - a beautiful big heirloom tomato filled with tomato meat, corn, basil and balsamic. Â Like everything we ate there, it seemed to be one ingredient off. Â The tomato itself was delicious, and the basil and balsamic complimented nicely. Â I love corn, but in this salad it was out of place.
The ice "burger" was an iceberg lettuce wedge with blue cheese dressing and pancetta. Â I LOVE a good wedge salad, but the problem with this one was the dressing. Â Bland and not blue-cheesy enough, it left the salad feeling a bit anemic. Â The pancetta and blue cheese were delicious, but please, upgrade the dressing!
The gulf prawns were cooked perfectly and the white wine, lemon and butter sauce was tasty, but the added cream made it feel heavier than necessary. Â
The truffle fries were tasty, and the chicken was nice and moist.
The best thing about our dinner was where we sat. Â We got to see the action, watch all the food coming off of the line, and listen to the hustle bustle of the kitchen. Â The chef was certainly a hard worker - we watched him expedite, reset tables, run food - I haven't ever seen a chef work like that. Â Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable as well and had a lot of menu suggestions.
I would give 3 1/2 stars for food, and 4 1/2 for service, resulting in a 4 star review. Â Not dying to go back, but liked the experience overall.
The service here is superb. Perhaps a bit over the top. As we walked out of the venue we heard farewells from at least 5 different people!
They did accept us as a walk-in on a Saturday night, however we were seated next to the kitchen on a high top table.
However, I did not like their truffle fries whatsoever! They were way too dry and even white on the edges. If you want to discourage patrons from ordering fries, don't serve them on the menu :)
The mini lamb sliders were very tasty. The cheese was exceptionally strong and paired nicely with the lamb.
They had a squash appetizer that was seriously 7 slices of zucchini with a cream sauce on it. Extremely minimal and I don't really consider zucchini "squash". I was expecting butternut or something more exotic.
Seems like this place is hit or miss depending on what your order.
I've been here a few times but the last time was very special. Â We were on our way to a concert at the Mountain Winery and had about 75 minutes prior to the show starting. Â We did not have reservations but called and they said the could most likely find something, maybe even at the bar since it is first come, first serve. Â We arriveed about 15 minutes later and the bar was full. Â The guy at the front said, "wait here" and scoped out the back of the restaurant for options. Â We had said that we have a short time given the concert so he was able to seat us and quickly get a waiter over. Â The waiter took our order and within 10 minutes the food came out piping hot. Â We also got a glass of wine and he had us try it prior to pouring the entire glass...why can't more places do that in case you don't like it! Â
A great experience from someone who understood our situation, accommodated us and made the evening that much more special. Â If you are ever in Saratoga, you should definitely visit. Â I did not get the name of the guy upfront (seemed like the owner or manager) but I give huge kudos to him for understanding the customer.
Weeknight Review
Friendly service but was extremely slow. Â Not busy on the weeknights - perfect for business dinner or if you need something intimate. Full bar and a wine menu by the glass for about 10 bones/glass. Full bottles are available. Food is wonderful! NY steak is at market price - Â $50 but a solid portion. Parking is may be difficult (curb side parking). Definitely worth a try!
WOW....I'm not even sure I can find enough good things to say that will do this place justice. Â My husband and I had a reservation this last Friday night for dinner before a concert at the Mt Winery. Â I had asked a friend for a place she'd recommend and she said "The Basin", so I glanced at the menu and made the reservations. Â She also advised that I should get the NY Steak.
We arrived a bit late (traffic)- but our table was waiting for us, we were immediately seated and it was early, so the place was pretty empty, but it did fill up very quickly by 6pm on this Friday night. Â The wait staff was very attentive, making sure we had everything we needed and always checking in on us at every point of the meal. Â My husband ordered Fried Calamari for his appetizer and said it was good, not outstanding but very good. Â I had bread and oil/balsamic for my appetizer., Â I did take my friend, Donna's advice and ordered the NY Steak, without asking for the price (it was on the menu as AQ), but I figured it had to be good. Â
OMG- this thing was HUGE and quite honestly well worth the $60 price tag. Â It was cooked to perfection and absolutely huge. Â If i had to gauge, I'd say it was easily a 15-18 ounce steak! Â I could care less about the forest of broccoli that was underneath the steak- it's still in the fridge for my hubby to eat. Â I also could care less about the potatoes that looked great, I just ate my steak and the side order of macaroni and cheese that was delish! Â
I did bring home 2/3 of my steak and have to say that the leftovers were just as good. Â I had part for lunch yesterday and part for dinner tonight. Â I would go back to The Basin, simply for the NY Steak- it was THAT good! Â
My husband had the Gumbo for dinner and he thought it was fabulous.
We did order a dessert to share- it was a cream puff with bananas around the edge of the plate and it was really very good.
Not a cheap dinner, but was well worth it...$197 before gratuity for 2 of us..but remember $60 steak and a $52 bottle of wine...
Absolutely fantastic dinner at The Basin & I've FINALLY found my go-to Saratoga dinner spot!!!
We've been coming down here for years & been trying all the different area restaurants, looking for that 1 special spot to hit before Mountain Winery, Montalvo Arts Center, Saratoga Civic Center, etc..... but to no avail
Until last night.....walked out of there stuffed to the gills & totally impressed
Starters included Heirloom Tomato Salad for me - nice green heirloom tomato that was peeled, hollowed out & stuffed w/ cucumbers, fresh corn & other tomatoes, w/ basil & a balsamic reduction - it was sweet, tart & scrumptious!
Buddy #1 got the Halibut Bruschetta & what I thought was going to be a traditional bruschetta - toast points w/ toppings actually came out as 3 hushpuppy-looking things sitting on top of a bed of tomato sauce. Â She absolutely loved it
For entrees, we both chose the Mushroom Rigatoni & all I can say here is OMG, you *have* to get this dish! Â Perfectly al dente pasta tubes are drinking in the creamy, white wine & porccini-based mushroom sauce & there are a TON of little sauteed shrooms to distribute throughout the dish. Â I didn't want to stop eating this at all & finally had to call uncle to have them wrap up the rest
Rocking glass of Steven Kent Cab for me; Chardonnay for Buddy #1 & we both loved our pairing choices
Shared dessert included the Bread Pudding & again, we have another winner. Â This came out as 2 huge triangles & I'm at first thinking hmmm, looks dry & I'm skeptical about the apricots but at 1st taste, I was only thinking man, wish there were more of this. Â Tender & custardy bread pudding w/ really nice vanilla tones & the apricots gave it a sweet, chewy texture w/out interrupting the flavor. Â Brilliant!
Staff was super-friendly from the valet parking to the waitstaff. Â Impression for the evening overall was: Â color us impressed!
