Went here for lunch; need to come back for breakfast too. My boyfriend had their award winning clam chowder which he loved. Was going to make a special trip back last weekend for it. Go early because they run out.
I had chili cheese burger which was wonderful. Burger was charbroiled and had so much flavor.  Waitresses were very friendly and made you feel at home.
The breakfasts that being served around us looked so good we need to go back.

The breakfast here is consistently delicious, generously portioned, and served quickly. It is a small restaurant and quite popular with both locals and tourists. The location is conveniently located across the street from the pier.

Definitely one of my favorite places to go for breakfast. I recommend the breakfast burrito w/ sausage.

What a gem!  I wanted to find just the perfect breakfast place as a destination for my BMW Z3 group.  I called and spoke to the owner Sue, who said it would be no problem for a large party and to just call when we were on our way, so she could accommodate our party of 10.  When we arrived, we were greeted in the nicest way and our table was all ready for us.  Our server, Terry was amazing and everything we ordered was delicious, from the Clam Chowder and Eggs Benedict, Omelets and Cheeseburgers!

Thank you Sue and all of your staff for making our rainy day drive extra special!
We will definitely be back soon!!

Order the clam chowder! That's it. Just order their clam chowder! It is SO delicious. Big, juicy chunks of clam and rich, thick, creamy broth. Just try it already! It's so good!

On to the rest of the review....service was awesome. I brought my unruly 18 month old and they gave her a mini-plate and silverware. I also ordered pancakes and eggs and sausage. Everything came out delicious. Not too greasy, pancakes were light and fluffy, wish we lived closer!

Best clam chowder ever- an I'm not alone in thinking this- I think they've won the chowder cook off in San Clemente like the last 8 years in a row! The service is friendly and fast and the food fresh and tasty! Very affordable too. Me and my family love coming here when I'm visiting them!
Only complaint is they close a bit early. Went for a late lunch recently and they were closing at 2 so we didn't make it in time.

We came here new years day for breakfast. It was very busy and they were operating one server short (evidently had partied too much the night before). Even with that, the server was efficient and friendly. The food was all that it should be for breakfast. Only low point was the hot chocolate. Made from a powder and not very good. Not worth the price or the calories.

A great breakfast spot!! Views are great. The food is plentiful. The people are polite and accommodating.

The restaurant is small (interior). It only has like 10 tables inside.  BUT it does have a small open air patio. (which would make for a nice lunch if the weather is nice)

The food is good.  The breakfast sausage is unbelievable!   Prices are comparable for what you would pay at other places.

I would definitely go back.  :)

Food was good, service took FOREVER. We were sitting next to another couple and neither of us have been helped for about 25-30 minutes. It was breakfast time and there were only two servers, yet they only had about 5 tables of people outside and they seemed like they were super stressed even though there weren't that many customers.
    Food was very yummy though!

Horrible service and we were asked to leave. Read on it gets better.  Friend and i have been looking for a place to have perfect eggs benidict for our weekly breakfast out. We found BGC. settled in for a long relationship with them and came once a week. Fast forward one year later.......One morning  we got there and sat down the waitress took our order we ate and chatted a bit, and were just about ready to get our check when the waitress came over and asked us to leave,  as they had many people waiting to get seated. At first I was stunned and shaking my head. but once It sunk in I was just mad. all these years going to this place and being treated like this was un thinkable.  to make matters worse the poor waitress was told by the owner to tell us to leave. The owner didn't have any guts to do it herself. We decided to NEVER go back again and we haven't.

Weird thing is about 4 months later I was talking to my neighbor about what happened and the same thing happened to her and her friends, same kind of attitude, and told them to leave to. What disrespect they have for the customer.

To the owner, be careful, this kind of attitude can come back to bite you in the ass. word of mouth is powerful and if you continue to tell you're customers to leave you might not have anymore. We found another place in town that makes great Eggs benidict so we go there now.

Hubby and I went on a breakfast date.  The view of the beach across the street was nice.  Service was fast.  Hubby ordered eggs benedict and I ordered belgian waffles.  His food was really good and mine was very tasty.

Location is definitely their main asset. I highly recommend eating outside, because it will certainly make your dining experience more pleasant. Surprisingly moderately priced for a beach cafe. The food is tasty, too (how can one mess up breakfast, right?!). Nothing spectacular, but quite satisfying for a slow sunny morning.

Oh dear. At a breakfast place, I think it's a pretty bad sign to have to ask (twice) for a coffee refill. Another lovely beach-front location taken up by a sub-standard caf. The server was inattentive, seemingly more intent on sorting out ketchup bottles for vacant tables than seating us or taking our orders for breakfast. Big portions of mediocre food, served lukewarm. Check out the Crepe Gallerie next door instead: not great, but better than this.

Awesome location by the Pier in San Clemente. Very tasty Eggs Benedict, quality coffee and honest, friendly staff. The outdoor patio is limited and cramped but if you hit the place during off-rush, it's no big deal.

Great food, nice location right across from the pier.  Had the tuna salad, it was really good, everything was really fresh.  Would definitely go back.

Great food, the staff is very friendly and accommodating!  Right across from the Pier and beach, what more could you ask for?  Oh...CLAM CHOWDER!  It's the best!

GREAT clam chowder.  I don't know about the other dishes because that's all I tried, but I would like to go back and try more.

Jen was our waitress and wonderfully honest about what was good and what wasn't.  If this brand of wait-staff isn't your cup of tea, don't stop--I loved it; I'm used to wait-staff loving everything on the menu, which seems too vague for the asking.  This waitress was wonderfully specific and helpful, in my opinion.

All of the help was very attentive, by the way, and we were in and out in no time.  Good prices as well.

Agree the clam chowder was tasty, but the rest of our food was cafeteria grade.  This is not a good choice for a foodie.  I'd stay away and would opt for the local IHOP if that's what you're into.

We have been eating breakfast or lunch here lately.  We walk the beach trail from North Beach, have breakfast and turn around and walk back.  It is always busy, but we usually don't have to wait to long when it is just the 2 of us.  Yesterday I had the Belgium waffle and bacon- really good.  The only negative I can find is the feeling that the place isn't spotlessly clean, other than that I enjoy a meal here.

Was looking for a Sunday brunch spot to meet up with my gf's & liked the idea of sitting outside with a view of the ocean. It was a little chilly so we ended up taking a window seat & it was still a good dining experience.

Food is really good! Big portions at a reasonable price. I had a waffel and it delicious! We were all talked into a cup of clam chowder, our waitress pointed out all the awards on the wall. It lived up to the hype, a little on the salty side and very very heavy. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am planning on coming back for a big bowl!

Love the fact that it was right across the street from the pier! We took a walk down the pier which really helped us digest everything we ate!

I would have to say its not a good spot for groups larger than 4:
    1. The 4 of us were semi comfortably seated, but any more than that would be too many.
    2. They would only split the check between two cards.

This cafe is perfectly located directly across from the beach.  After a morning run on the beach, we popped in after seeing the number of people in the restaurant.  We sat outside at a cozy table, but enjoyed being outdoors and people watching while waiting for our food.

Our food was delivered within 10 minutes of ordering and it was really good.  The eggs Benedict was great with avocado and a side of fruit.  My friend ordered the Marco's Monte Cristo, yummy!  This was a great switch up to his traditional french toast cravings.  I definitely recommend ordering the Monte Cristo, you won't be disappointed!

Our server was friendly and attentive, but I agree with some of the other postings, they do seem a little overworked.  Overall, the food is good and I it's perfectly located across from the beach.

My friend and I came here the other day for breakfast. Let me tell you the service was great. Our server went above and beyond. I'm gluten-free and she offered me options. The food was fresh and delicious. I ordered the veggie omelet with asparagus, mushrooms, tomatoes, avocado and feta! And instead of toast I got corn tortillas and a mimosa! It was great! We sat outside in their little patio. So charming especially in such a great location so close to the beach.

Boyfriend and I rode our bikes down to the pier on a Sunday afternoon and were starving. We wanted fisherman's clam chowder but the wait was too long, so we stopped in here. We got a little table on the outside, what a great spot to people watch!

Our server was friendly but seemed a little overworked. We shared some clam chowder and it was different than any I've ever had, but really good. Kind of seemed like a mix of broccoli cheese and chowder.

I had the veggie burger, my bf got the salmon burger, both with fries. Yummy seasoned fries and great portions for the low prices. I'll be back for sure!

Pretty solid little beach breakfast spot. Location, location, location. A great setting for a good meal. Omelets were tasty, service was quick and the prices are hard to beat.

Nothing too too memorable though. I would go back however if I am in the area.

Cute little place looking over the water.  Spinach omelets are great.  Friendly server too. Their breakfast potatoes are good.  They are mixed with onions, tomatoes, and peppers.

Charming little breakfast place in a great location.  I came on a Sunday with 4 friends and got a table pretty quickly.  It was about a 10 minute wait.  I ordered an omelet, which was ok.  The egg was a little on the thick and stiff side (instead of fluffy), but the filling was pretty good.  I also enjoyed the potatoes that came on the side and the squaw bread.

My friends ordered chili, pancakes, and the cheese blintz special.  The consensus was the food was all pretty good. In particular, the clam chowder was impressive. My friend loved it. I had a taste and also thought it was quite delicious.

Food was pretty cheap, especially for a beachside place. My veggie omelet was $7.95. Free refills for coffee. Service was fast and friendly, although our server did seem a bit rushed. I really like this place and will be back. The food is better than the Fisherman's Restaurant across the street and is much cheaper.

    Three-and-a-half stars.

PROS:  Lovely ocean view if you sit on the patio.  Easy, inexpensive parking nearby.  Food was good, if not great.  The portions were generous, and the bacon was yummy and crisp...and I take my bacon very seriously!

CONS: Coffee was tasteless swill.  Toast was pre-buttered and already a bit soggy when it arrived.

Would I go back?  Yes!  It was a hearty, tasty breakfast at a reasonable price...and in a beautiful location!

Came here for breakfast on my trip down here for a graduation. The food was really good! I ordered a veggie benedict with avocado. It came with a side of potatoes and fresh fruit. Everything was really delicious. Other members of my family ordered belgian waffles with eggs and sausage, that looked amazing as well. I was pleased with everything and the view was gorgeous. If you sit outdoors of in the patio you get a view of the water and the wharf which is nice.

Great location. Outdoor seating- great for people watching. Friendly service. The food was okay. I got an omelet and was not impressed- very plain- nothing special. My boyfriend got the waffles with strawberries and was very happy with his meal. I am told that lunch is better- I would probably go back and try the lunch.

Best clam chowder in the whole world (even compared to San Francisco and Boston chowders)! Hands down, my favorite.

This is a perfect spot to eat before/after/during a beach walk in San Clemente. We parked off of Pico and walked a couple of miles down to The Beach Garden Cafe. The food is tasty and the ocean is right across the street. The grilled cheese was amazing... and my Mom loved her salmon salad, too.

I went here once for breakfast and it was mediocre to bad...fried this, greasy this, over buttered this...

the location is AMAZING though, but the food was lacking.  It was just very mediocre at best..

This is a true gem of a place to eat breakfast or lunch. The people who work here are so happy!  It's a cozy little place where everyone knows your name and you're treated like family.  It's super magical. Order the wheat pancakes.

    God bless yelp.

I have a friend who lives in Oceanside and I live in Irvine, so I needed to find someplace to have breakfast that was in between. Unfortunately, neither of us know anything about San Clemente.

So I go on yelp and there's this place. Sure, there were only two reviews, but it got 5 stars. And it was right near the beach and the pier. We figured we'd give this place a shot.

Great service and really good food (and a lot of it!) for a great price. OOOH, their potatoes were lip-smackingly good.

Also, they give your kids crayons and a coloring page which helps keep your kid occupied and quiet so you can actually enjoy your own breakfast. hehe.

Kind of a small restaurant, but they were able to accommodate us (4 adults, 2 kids in high chairs) really well. A bit of a tight squeeze, but if you're having trouble getting in there, you may want to lose a few pounds, anyway. hehe... (I am going to hell, aren't I...)

We went kind of early, but there was plenty of street parking (bring quarters after 9AM) and there's a lot that starts charging after 10AM.

It's nice to walk around on the beach after breakfast... and if you have kids, there's a little area with a swingset.

This place has an award winning clam chowder & I can see why! I was there around 1ish & saw other people having chowder on their tables. The chowder comes along with some crackers that have more crunch to them. The combo with a side salad along with their homemade honey mustard dressing made the perfect light lunch w/o making you lethargic afterwards. The service people were pleasant!
Location is super since it's right across from the pier & you can see the ocean waves breaking. There is an outdoor patio. However, this place is tiny. The hours of operation is only breakfast & lunch meals till 2PM weekdays & 3PM weekends.

I LOVE this place for Breakfast.  It's across the street from the Pier, but I think they have a much better selection than The Fisherman (on the Pier) - and their Breakfast hours are a lot better.  The waitresses are super nice, and I love their omelets and Squaw bread.

When ever I come back to visit my parents, my dad and I make it a point to have breakfast here.  It's great to sit on the patio on a nice day and have a nice walk down the Pier to digest.
