We have visited many Innsbrook restaurants and had put the Beach House on our list seeing the amount of variety on their menu. Â I have to say that the experience was average at best. Â Four-top tables in their bar area are small and could barely accommodate four diners. I guess I would call this place a bar first, restaurant second...
The service was fine, but the food that I got was not what I ordered exactly. Â I ordered the fish tacos and I couldn't decide if the meat was fishy chicken or chickeny fish. Â My wife soon confirmed that it was indeed fish, although the dryness made condiments necessary. Â Speaking of which, I also expected mango salsa and sour cream on the tacos, or on the side, but it did not come prepared with that. Â Instead, I got more of the spicy cole slaw side in the taco instead of the cabbage advertised (I know, cole slaw is made with cabbage, but still...) and a chipotle mayo on the side. Â When I asked for the salsa, I got a side of it and the sour cream as well "just in case." Â OK, thanks. Â I guess a word to the wise would be to check your order to make sure it is to your specifications. (I'm still wondering about the fish, although being so used to it fried, it was a pleasant surprise to see it grilled instead).
With all of the competition for the diner dollar these days, I expect all restaurants to step up and give me a reason to go back and try something. Â Sadly, the Beach Grill did not give me a reason to want to return. Â Maybe with more attention to detail in the kitchen and a little more pizzazz in their menu, I will change my mind.
THREE stars for the Dueling Piano Bar and the decent bar food. Â But minus 2 stars for the rest of the Beach House (and would do more if the pianos weren't involved in this review). Â
LOVE their Friday and Saturday night dueling piano bar. Â I prefer the Landon & Pete duo. Â They were witty, humorous, and knew how to get the crowd going. Â The drummer Paige completes the perfect trio with her talent, as well as eye candy for all the men in the audience. Â You could, however, go broke pretty quickly in this place. Â Make sure to have cash on you if you have song requests. Â A fun atmosphere for group gatherings like birthdays, but best to make a table reservation. Â Thankfully, smoking is NOT allowed in the piano bar section.
As for the rest of the Beach House, seemed kinda gross to me. Â Unbelievably smokey (so the perfect place all you chain smokers) and full of um...interesting people. Â And what I mean by interesting is women in their mid-to late 30/40s on the "prowl" and men looking to pick up such women. Â It may be an extreme generalization. It's not my scene, but for those of you who like that....enjoy!
Wow do I have mixed feelings about this place. Â I don't love it but I continually end up here. Â On the one hand its a nice enough place with good draft beer specials and a nice little patio area. Â On the other around 930 it flips into an overly loud, overprice not-quite-club-but-trying place. Â On Wed. evenings they have a free to enter "waterpong" tournament with top prize. Â Be forewarned the main area where two of the three bars is smoking heavy which bothers a lot of people. Â The back room where dueling pianos happens is not. Â The general layout is good and even when crowded you can usually get a drink quick. Â This is definitely one of the more popular places in the West End. Â The clientele ranges depending on when you come. Â They get an older afterwork crowd and at night a mixture of regular people and what I would call Dbags in graphic tees. Â Staff is very friendly and if you want someplace with more people in the West end this is your best bet. Â Notwithstanding I continue to go back.
Review Source:If you are looking for guys wearing ripped t-shirts that expose their copious bodyhair, drunken people who will rub up against you inappropriately, music so loud it makes your teeth hurt, and thick clouds of smoke, this is the bar for you!
The beer selection is mediocre and pricy, and the music was so loud you had to scream to hear the person next to you. Definitely not a good place to grab a drink and chat with your buddies. The smoking section is at the front of the bar, so you've got to walk through a dense cloud of smoke even if you want to sit in the nonsmoking area.
My feelings for this place can be summed up in two words: Why bother?
What an odd place! Â It's a bar...in a strip mall...that looks like a beach bar. Â Madness! Â
I've only been here once and that was to see The Keys Dualing Piano Show -- which was fairly awesome. Saturday night was a $5 cover. Â Both guys were super friendly and worked hard to make your requests happen....even if they had no idea of how to play the song. Â The crowd was overall sloshy and enthusiastic, singing along loudly with much encouragement from the pianists. Â All the staff was really friendly. Â The back room for the pianos is huge and seems like a fun venue to rent out or reserve for a birthday. Â
If you have a DD, it's a fun escape from the city for a random sing-a-long evening. Â With the closure of Liberty Valance, perhaps a good Saturday night karaoke surrogate?
We went on a slow Saturday afternoon for some burgers & fish tacos. They may have gotten the burger right, but the fish tacos werent all that good. The wait staff was inattentive, un-informed and forgetful. Â Maybe if we went at night, got drunk & watched the pianists, we would have enjoyed ourselves better...
Review Source:Went one Sunday night for a drink and dinner with my girlfriend. I enjoyed it very much and the food turned out pretty good. Also, waitstaff was very friendly. Another time, I took a buddy from outta town one Friday night. Was super packed around the bar area and pretty much hopping. The one male bartender was really unfriendly and didn't mention to me that he started a tab in my name, even though I told him to close out the check after that beer. Didn't find out to another bar tender tried to run my card and told me I already had a tab. I would've been charged extra for my tip if would've walked out without closing my tab. However, I would probably come back.
Review Source:The Beach House... let me grab my boat shoes.
The age group varies from 20 something year olds all the way up to grandpa and grandma, but the majority of the crowd is white. Most attractive women are accompanied by their boyfriend or they're sucking down cigarettes, sorry single guys. Drinks are fairly prices, comfortable chilling atmosphere, and usually an acoustic band playing. The outside patio is a nice feature though. I think it might be difficult to meet someone new or have a one night stand out of this place. However, given the options in the West End, there's not much to it. No cover on Friday night when I went, cheap beer, don't have to worry about being stabbed or mugged in the parking lot. I just wish the crowd was more  within the 20-30 year old age group...I think I saw my uncle in there while I was macking...
The Beach House Bar & Grille is a fun place to hang out in the West End. It's the only place in Richmond to offer dueling piano shows. Here there's a free one on Thursday, and there's a $6.99 cover on Friday and a $7.99 cover on Saturday. The dueling pianos are the same as any Howl at the Moon where you throw out tips and your song requests, but it's a fun alternative to the typical bar scene. If you go a lot you can also purchase a $50 VIP pass that gets you and one guest into unlimited piano shows for a year.
Along with the piano bar, there's a big regular bar and patio. Karaoke takes place on Monday nights and there's a DJ on Wednesday. Happy hour runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The decor is Caribbean inspired as is the menu, which is available nightly until 1 a.m. It's a great place for big groups to hang out.
the beach house is f'ing amazing.
yes, there's not a whole lot around there but the beer is always cold, people are super nice, hockey games are on, dj aint bad, and they've got the windows open.
also randomly the karaoke crowd was really good for the most part. like, could actually sing. not bad.
pretty much what makes a trip to the marriot down the road. i'll be back here.
