I come here for one reason- the beer selection. Â It's the best I've seen in all of Richmond. Â If you've never tried Stone beers (brewed in San Diego), you are missing out but you can make up for your deficiency here. Â Try the Arrogant Bastard or Smoked Porter, both are fantastic!
I hear they serve food here, too, but I can't really vouch for that. Â Other than some appetizers, I haven't eaten here. Â Capital Ale House is a great place for a primer before a night out.
I was prepared to like this place... I really was! There's an incredible selection of beers on tap, they have great happy hour specials, and it's less than 5 minutes from both my house and work.  What else can you ask for? Perfect  happy hour hangout!
However, when my fiancé and I went last week for happy hour, we found MOLDY pretzel pieces mixed in with our Rauchbier Cheese Dip.  I get it- I really do.  Food goes bad quickly, and sometimes you don't catch it.  However, when we (in my opinion, rather calmly) pointed it out to our waitress, she didn't even seem surprised, or offer to do anything about it. We assumed it would at least be taken off the bill, but we were even charged for the moldy food they'd given us.  I couldn't believe it.
I'm really bummed about that I can't recommend this place, but hate to give my business to a company who doesn't seem to mind giving you moldy food, then CHARGES you for it. Â Ugh.
