We just moved to the cape this past winter and all the locals we have met told us that we needed to go here. Â We were sorry we did. Â First, they make you pay $20 to park, but they tell you they will give you $20 in food or merchandise inside. Â Not cool if you only want to drink and don't want a tourist trap t-shirt. We went for a few beers but were told we couldn't sit at a table because we weren't eating. Â When beer is $5 each, our tab would have ended up way more than if we ordered food so they really missed the boat there. Â There is nowhere to sit at the outside bar and if you do sit at a table outside, you get a lovely view of people's bums. Â This place is only a good time if you are a barely 21 tourist. Â It might be on the beach, but you can't see it from anywhere but the overcrowded bar. Â We definitely won't be back.
Review Source:If it wasn't for the horrible service I would give this place 5 stars. The idyllic location and great food and drinks truly is worth driving to and visiting. But I have never been treated so disrespectfully by a bartender. After spending hours there and enjoying great conversation with people around us, a kind elderly gentleman bought me and my friend the round of drinks we had in our hands. There were 2 bartenders working and the one who made our drinks had already put them on my tab, however the elderly man paid the other bartender. When it came time to pay I asked for my tab and the drinks were on there. I clearly saw the miscommunication happen so tried to bring it up to the bartender who originally made our drinks (and also mentioned he managed at the restaurant) He wouldn't even let me explain and then proceeded to use profanity and say "just pay your ****** tab!" In front of a bar full of people! Â I then tried to explain myself again, and he he just huffed away taking the drinks off our tab and rudely not answering me when we asked for the void slip of the first charge that was wrong. Sadly that exchange stuck with me and my friend and put a damper on our experience.
Review Source:Stopped here for dinner on our way through the Cape. Â It was chilly, but we decided to sit outside (good reason to buy one of their super warm sweatshirts!). Â Our waitress was really friendly and very quick to wait on us (always appreciated). Â She had good suggestions for dinner and brought our drinks and apps out quickly! Â The onion rings were so tasty and the Buffalo Shrimp were done perfectly. Â Our dinners were served and we both enjoyed our meals (a burger and lobster roll). Â I'm not one to prefer eating with plastic utensils, but it IS an outdoor patio, so I will take that into consideration!
We came back the next night just to get a drink and were surprised to find out that their was a band playing and tickets were $20/ea. Â We didn't stay!
We spent a fair amount of time there, last weekend (4th of July) and HOLY HOTNESS. It was over 90 degrees and this place was absolutely packed. The food is decent (I didn't try the raw bar). It's typical pub-grub. Considering the views and the delicious drinks, they could easily get away with serving crappy food and people would STILL flock there. Kudos to them.
Even with the ridiculous crowds, the waitstaff did a great job.
I'm a fan!!
So this is how they get you: pay $20 to park in their lot then they give you a $20 voucher for inside. What the little rat didn't tell us was that the voucher was only good for food or merchandise. Well gee thanks, considering we were only coming to drink that voucher did a whole lot for us. Total ripoff. $5 beers on tap, very weak selection, maybe 7 total. You would think for a beach bar they would have a whole slew of beers on tap or at least a better selection of bottles. Nice staff, great view. But absolutely not worth the $42 we spent when all we wanted was a couple of beers.
Review Source:A must visit if you're in the relative area. This place is one of my top 10 bars I've been to. It's right on the beach, so you can park here for $20 and in exchange receive a $20 food voucher. Come and Hang on the beach all day, have a few drinks, then head up to the Beachcomber for a lobster roll and a beer. The waves are sometimes rougher than others, like skaket, which results in generally a younger crowd, singles, couples, 20-55ish...
On Fridays and Saturday, this place throws down. There's always a great band playing that appeals to most audiences. The crowd is a decent mix of young and middle aged, and the overall ambiance is energetic and upbeat.
Looking forward to going again this summer
This is a great little spot right on the beach. Â The drinks are well made, and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the oyster shots. Â The food is delicious and well priced in my opinion. Â I purchased a Yelp deal which saved us a little money but even without it, I found the prices to be reasonable. Â There is some outdoor seating which is the place to be.
Parking is awful if you can't find a spot at the restaurant or across the street. Â There is a lot further down the road, but it's not a pleasant walk when you have beach stuff to carry.
I just want to note that there is a steep path down the dunes to the beach. Â It's not so bad going down, but is pretty steep and tiresome on the way up (especially after a few drinks). Â Marconi is an easier beach to access if you have issues with the dunes. Â Still, Beachcomber is worth checking out.
Reggae night is a bit of a meat-market type atmosphere, but I had a great time.
For my 500th review, I'll write about one of my most favorite, dear and memory-filled places - The Beachcomber.
It's so much more than just a bar. It's more even than just a bar on a beach. Forget that this is where we had some of our official high school events (I'm serious). Forget even that this is a fabulous spot during the height of tourist season. The Beachcomber is a totally unique experience because it's a totally unique environment. Perched on the edge of the dunes, peaking over to the Atlantic way out on the edge of the woods of Wellfleet, you have to really want to be here in order to enjoy it. And enjoy it I do.
Full disclosure: The parking is outrageously annoying. The key to getting a spot is to get there early (duh), or to just shut up and wait yout turn. Once you've made it inside, there are a few seating areas to choose from, but obviously the most popular is the outdoor bar. The key to getting a seat (if you want one) and a parking spot (if you need one) is to leave the beach at that precise moment  just before everyone else does. The sun is still beaming, the air is still hot, you feel like you should go for one last dip, but instead you go to the Beachcomber in all your wet and sandy glory, you order a bottle of beer and you listen to the live band (usually reggae - Toots has been known to play here) and revel in your bar stool. Then, you should order some steamers, oysters from the raw bar and Eastham mussels.
Once you've eaten your fill and had enough beer, head down to the beach for a twilight swim. Nothing's better. Nothing.
Went here on a Wednesday evening for an early-ish dinner. Food was sub par bar food - not cooked with care. I had the greek salad with shrimp and my date had a fish sandwich. Portions were small, and nothing was exciting about either one of our meals.
The set-up of this joint is awful. If you want an ocean view, sit at the bar. If you want to sit at a table, keep in mind that you'll be staring at the butts of people at the bar. The lawn chairs and picnic tables are fine, but the arcade games, multiple bars, and t-shirt stand make this place confusing. The live music is on the side of the building, outside the drinking zone - don't know what is up with that.
The ultimate tourist trap. Recommend coming here for a beer, and a walk up into the dunes, but don't expect a great meal.
A place one would hope to find while vacationing - especially on the Cape! Beach attire is OK - come as you are ... wet & sandy. Â Fun lively family crowd...everyone has fun here!
Very organized operation, from the parking to the t-shirt sales. We found the staff very pleasant & attentive. Service was quick & we enjoyed what we ordered - haddock tacos, buffalo wings, cheese burgers.
Next time we'll have to  hit the raw bar before dinner.
DELICIOUS! The oyster bar is the best. Fresh and tasty oysters opened up just as you order them. They also have shrimp to peel that are tasty although rather small.
We also had the fried oysters and were amazing, a lot of flavor and the clam chowder that has nothing to ask to other great clam chowders.
To close we tried the mudslide.
Everything was great and although it is crowded and you have to wait to get seated it is totally worth it.
My family has a lot of Beachcomber clothing. The place is an institution on the Cape. Being of legal drinking age, it's about ten times as awesome as it was when I was a kid.
The place fills up fast, so if you're taking your sweet time finishing up your beach read, be prepared to wait for lunch (and dinner!). If you hawk the bar upon entrance, you might get lucky. You can order from the full menu if you swoop in on a stool.
Prices are reasonable for the view, atmosphere and overall experience.
Get the garlic mussels and a Narragansett. I've never seen a pile of shellfish so high.
This place is awesome in the summer!
When you arrive (as early as possible, after 11am gets crazy) you have to pay $20, but they give you a voucher for food or a t-shirt in the restaurant. While you wait for the restaurant to open, you can hang out at the beach right across the parking lot - the walk down the dune is a little crazy but we all need a workout sometimes, right? The beach is huge and the waves are incredible!
The food at the Beachcomber is awesome. I had the veggie burger with swiss and it was only $10... my friend had the clam cake sandwich and said it was great too. Remembering we had the voucher was pretty great... the drinks are also good! Their specialty is the Goombay Smash.. which is basically orange juice and a bunch of other alcohol. It's really good and it was only $7. The wait wasn't as long as they predicted and it was a crazy tourist day.
I guess they have concerts throughout the summer at night - Â G.Love was gonna be there the night I was there and it was already sold out.
Definitely recommend it for a true Cape Cod experience!
Ah the Beachcomber my old friend. Coming back to this bar at least once a summer always brings back some great memories, some are very clear and some are not so clear (my times spent here in the early 90's seems to be somewhat foggy).
Beachcomber is a very cool spot to grab some good seafood, pub food or sample some clams, oysters or shrimp from their ourdoor raw bar. This building has some history behind it and is a very unique Cape Cod establishment located on National Seashore. Unlike Florida, California or even Long Island NY, you will not find many restaurants right on the beach in Cape Cod.
The Beachcomber offers parking for $20 which allows you to enjoy Cahoon Hollow Beach for the day and then apply the parking cost towards lunch, dinner or a T-Shirt in the restaurant.
Expect to wait for a table here for at least 1/2 hour whether it is a Monday afternoon or as Saturday afternoon. Also after 8:00 on weekends this place turns into a nightclub with some great bands coming in throughout the summer (Bim Skala Bim) was scheduled for late July 2012.
If you plan on parking in the Beachcomber lot be there before 11:00 am or you just maybe out of luck.
The seafood was amazing, drinks were refreshing and tasty, and it was a great location. Honestly, the perfect beach bar. My only small complaint is that finding a table and waiting for food and drinks requires some patience. To be expected on a 75 degree evening in July. The service was apologetic and friendly. If you can, get here for a great casual evening.
Review Source:The Beachcombers great location on the ocean beach earn it the three stars. It's not actually a place where you can just go and relax for the evening. We went out to the Beachcomer on Saturday night and things took took longer than we expected. The door opened at the 9:00 time on the ticket for the show but we were standing around for a couple of hours until the band came on at 11:15. We really were standing because there was no place to sit there except a couple of booths in one corner.
Don't plan on dinner there because they shut down the kitchen at 7:30 and then close the whole place down from 8 to 9 o'clock. It's a great location but maybe they want to make up sales by having you stand around drinking for a couple of hours before the show.
This is a cool spot (and only spot) to catch a bite while at cahoon hollow beach. Â Parking is tough in this lot so be prepared to walk about a mile. Â If you get to the beach early enough, you can park here for $15 and use it as a voucher for food. Â Beachcomber provides port o johns for non customers but the place is so busy, I don't think they'd notice people walking in just for the restroom. Â We parked a mile away $20 and no voucher. Â We were on the beach and one of our friends climbed the massive cliff to make a table reservation. Â The hostess gave her a buzzer but it doesn't work on the beach. Â Also if you are not to the hostess within 1 min of your buzzer going off someone else gets your table. Â Our wait was about 25 min total. Â Our server who appeared less than happy with life did a good job anyways. Â We all had the lobster rolls, $19, the meat was colder than others we had but had a fair amount of meat. Came with a bag of chips. Â Beers $5 a cup.
I would have liked to come here for the nightlife, but the one night we had plans to come here to see a reggae band, we were all too tired from a long day of bike riding and didn't make it here. For lunch, it was fine- we were seated in a cramped place by the entrance and didn't have a view of anything, but I could see how this place would we 4-5 stars under different circumstances.
Great ambiance and location. Â It's something I would expect in Orange County in California.
Food was good, but not exceptional. I was most interested in the location and proximity to awesome protected beach. Â It was a prime location. Â
Parking is sort of a nightmare. Â You can pay $20 for a parking spot, which is fully redeemable for $20 of food inside the restaurant. Â Nonetheless, you'll have to be lucky to arrive when the lots aren't full. Â
Fountains of Wayne was playing a show that night in the restaurant. Â How cool is that?
Wonderful ambiance on the outdoor patio during the day. Plenty of people in the sun and shade sipping on cocktails during the day practically on the beach.....this is exactly what I want to see when I'm not at work or school.
Reggae...check
seafood...check
service...check
Buffalo shrimp: delectable...best buffalo shrimp ever...I highly recommend them
Fried Clams with bellies: Some of them were good but a few of them literally tasted like excrement. My friend agreed but we used a word that wasn't yelp friendly. I mean LITERALLY not just the expression "Oh this tastes like ****". It really tasted like what I imagine that would taste like. I couldn't swallow it. I was a little bummed out because it killed my appetite. I wonder if they mixed the old clams with the fresh ones?
Anywho, I would love to go back because the vibe and the buffalo shrimp were 5 stars.
A little piece of heaven near the tip of the Cape, it doesn't get any more summer than a day at the Beachcomber. There is no place like this in New England. Get there early, stay late, leave sunburned, buzzed and happy - a perfect summer hideaway.
On a weekend, be prepared for no spaces to park and for the attendants not to particularly care. After waiting in the parking line (which is useless, because no one is leaving... if you make it in though, your parking fare goes towards merchandise or food) you'll have to wait for a beer or a table but just march down the dunes and chill, relax and look around. This is summer on the Cape, in the dunes, spray of the frigid sea... cue obscure Jimmy Buffett or Beach Boys song. Head back up the dunes for a Goombay Smash cocktail (over two million sold!) and enjoy the fact that you made it. Cheers!
Not a happy camper....I have been to the Comah many times but always end of June..never Labour Day..not again, for sure...too hectic..
By the way, every other time has been a blast......Lastly, their mudslides are tasty good.....
Today was a nightmare...no parking which I get due to the holiday weekend but the staff at the top of the street were damn rude. We  left, went to Macs for drinks and sushi and headed back to find a spot somewhere off site..we got in line and upon arrival at 3:45 was told the price was 15 NOT 10 as posted on the website. Staff again checking in just blah...no nice vibe.... One staff that made the day was the bus boy..he was amazing as well as our waitress...It was a wild aft tho ..we watched a guy jumping over the fence to get in ...crowds beyond belief (why let so many in when there is no room to move)..band played a short set then took a break...what the heck...An abysmal next to last day..here's what they advertised..and upon arrival we were charged 15$.

ZOMG party! Â Come here if you like to rage. Â Yes, even if you're an old fart you'll be welcome here. Â As long as you like to drink, eat good seafood and dance around like an idiot. Â I mean that in a good way. Â To put it simply, the Beachcomber is a fun time and a great way to spend a summer evening. Â
I saw Fountains of Wayne here the other night and relived some 90's awesomness. It's impressive that they can get some relevant bands to trek all the way out the Wellfleet, MA to play shows. Â Make sure you check out the Beachcomber and make sure you bring your drinkin' shoes. Â Or drinkin' hat. Â Whatever.
I was there twice while in Wellfleet. The first time it would have been one star and the 2nd time it would have been five so I'm going with 3.
The first time was at night with a lot of college kids and there was absolutely nowhere to sit and enjoy a drink. Standing only everywhere. $15 (rip off) cover charge. Awful IMO.
The second time was during the day after going to the beach. Sitting (novel concept!) while looking out at the ocean and enjoying a frozen beverage and eating lunch. That sounds like heaven to me. :)
Not sure what the huge appeal here is. Â Its OK I guess - for a tourist trap. Â I come to Wellfleet every year now, and some of the peeps I go with act like their Cape experience will absolutely 100% not at all be complete without checking out the 'Combaah.
Eh. I actually saw this place on some Travel Channel special on great beach restaurants/bars years ago. Â When I actually came here for the first time a few years later, I thought...really??
I mean, it's fine for what it is...if you want deep fried seafood and a drink, and also be near the ocean, you're all set. Â At night, it gets full of all the young Wellfleet off duty workers all looking to start a summer fling or add another notch to their summer fling belts. Â Sometimes they have reggae music...I like that. Â Other times they have a GnR cover band. Â No thanks.
I guess they occasionally book some cool old skool acts. Â We missed Arrested Development by a week last year.
Its just OK. Â Not bad, but its definitely not necessary. Â And with the tourists and crowds and jammed parking lot, its actually better left avoided.
Bathing suits were meant to be worn at the bar. Oysters must always be served with a cold beverage. Live music is not an option but a necessity. Such is law at the Beachcomber.
This past weekend a friend and I exercised our right to beach and spent probably 75% of our time at what should herein be referred to as "The Bar," as it's the only bar I know of in Cape Cod that literally sits in the dunes. With a view to die for, fast friendly service, and perfect beach bar-food, 5 stars is not enough for the Beachcomber.
Goombay Smash anyone? Don't forget a myers floater - it may be 2 bucks extra but remember, you're on vacation!
I would only give this place 0 stars but I didn't have the option. Â My friends and I went there for a drink and some aps and after an hour the manager told us to leave. Â We were sitting there drinking and hanging out. Â I've never been treated so rudely. Â I will never go back. Â We had spent hundreds of dollars there already. Â Were planning on spending more but were told that cliental was not welcome there. Â As were were only eatting apps. Â We were going to order dinner, but were not given the opportunity. Â Ironically this happened to some other people this night as well.
The manager and the owner are really rude and it have no business running a resturant.
This place gets 2.5 stars for being on the beach. Otherwise, I'd have to round up to one star.
The hostess was negligent to the point of being rude. I had to chase her down (after she twice wandered off after a male waiter) to put my name in. An hour wait isn't so bad when you have the beach to wander around, I guess, although we ended up waiting a lot longer than that. We took a table inside, where, without the roar of the sea, or the sunlight, we might have as well been nowhere near the sea.
And the food, completely unremarkable. Could have gotten it anywhere on the cape. And it's not cheap. Just because you're on the beach doesn't mean you don't have to try!!
Lastly, did you know, just to park there is $15? Good grief.
I love this place. I feel like my summer is complete with a visit here. The Dark and Stormys (Ginger beer and Gosslings Rum) are terrific. The fried calamari is some of the best I've had. We went on a Saturday night and it was a $20 cover. I've never heard of the band and I wasn't too impressed with the music but it was ok. I love hanging on the porch and people watching. There are ALOT of dudes here. Ladies you have your pick.
This is one of the best nightlife scenes in the area. They have bands, dancing, good drinks, and it's on the beach so after you can go walk the beach under the moon.
5 stars - love the coma!
I love this place. Â It is a true embodiment of what cape was, is and should be. Â I've been coming here for years and most recently this past saturday to watch the US/England World Cup match. Â
Here are a few reasons why I love this place:
Raw Bar
Both indoor and outdoor seating
Live music
Steamers!
Cheap beers
Strong drinks
Friendly staff
If you ever find yourself near Wellfleet, stop by the Beachcomer and have a few brews and enjoy the food and music. Â Its impossible not to leave this place with a giant smile.
This is the type of place Jeff Spicoli would spend his summers, or Bodhi and Johnny Utah would grab beers before having a bonfire down at the beach ... it's THAT cool !
Top 5 things about the Comah:
1. Â Beautiful beach-side location perched at the edge of the national seashore ... an oasis, where you feel away-from-it-all
2. Â Sweet-ass outdoor deck to drink-ya-drinks and enjoy the summer.
3. Â Great live music ranging from popular national acts to small time local Cape cover bands
4. Â GREAT Dark n' Stormy, dare I say best ever! Â They use great ginger beer (AJ Stephans fyi), and plenty of goslings, it really bites back :) Â Also their house special Goombay Smash is pretty darn awesome, although its foo-foo-ness makes my pinky finger stick out
5. Â Raw bar is pretty top notch, meaning really fresh and choice selection ... a taste of the ocean sets me in a happy motion
Overall, the food is pretty good and they don't price gouge (rare for seasonal touristy places) ...
At the Comah, I feel as far away from work and responsibilities as if I were half way around the world. Â If only I you were open year-round ...
Found this place by looking on Yelp and I have to say that I was not disappointed. Â
This place is hopping with a mix of college students, tourists, and a mellow peacenik crowd that helps the place active but not out of control. Â You'll have to pay for parking, but the money goes towards your tab so it's totally worth it. Â Oh, did I mention that it is right on the beach? Â A fairly uncrowded and limitless beach.
The food is pretty good, with the chowder falling in the "good" range and the lobster roll being very satisfying. Â The drinks are very well made and are strong.....and I mean strong. Â Drink and then hit the beach, not the reverse.
The Beachcomber is a little out of the way. It overlooks a beautiful beach; man it screams summer at this place! The food is pretty darn good and they have the mandatory beach cocktails. The inside is large and spacious with a lodge feel to it. There are long tables for large parties and more intimate seating as well. It was windy the day we visited so hanging outside was not optimal. I could see spending a wasted afternoon out there when the weather is warmer. I had fried oysters and seared tuna fish tacos, one of the better meals I had that weekend. We will defiantly go back.
* West Coast Style Beach Hangout on the Cape.
* Comfort food with plenty of seafood choices.
* Board shorts and flip flop heaven.
It's a good sign if there's a line of folk waiting for the place to open... and that's how it was at the Beachcomber of Wellfleet.
The staff was efficient and friendly. Â The menus remain on the tables. Â They have daily specials printed up in color. Â Food is served on Styrofoam plates with plastic-ware and coated paper cups. Â Ketchup and mustard sit on the table besides the paper napkin dispenser.
The clam chowder is a thick creamy sort - really good. Â The clams (MP) were crispy and tasty (and much better than the fried oysters), and came with okay coleslaw, packaged tartar sauce, and addictive crispy (probably coated) thin (think McDonald's) french fries in a short tortilla basket (not oily!) . Â The day's special of fried cod fish tacos ($12.99 - 2 tacos to an order) was well filled and good - as good as those in California, according to my CA friend.
A plus on a cold day - the bathroom was nice and warm!
Happy place of all happy places. This is my favorite venue in the world to see a show-- it's not a very big place and I can't say much for the sound system (again, earplugs) but you can go outside on the spacious two-level patio and have a drink and the music drifts through the windows, mingling with the sound of the waves from the beach below... it's as fun and laid back as it gets. Plus you can have a bonfire on Cahoon Hollow Beach after the show.
They attract a lot of local bands, but they also book the occasional national act which is a treat. I saw Ween here twice and those were among my favorite live shows of all time. Once during a set the drummer had to take a leak and instead of wading through the crowd to get to the bathroom he hopped out the window behind his drum kit and then hopped back in and resumed playing. That is Comah-style-ee.
In the afternoon it's a restaurant and bar- they charge you $15 to park if you're just going in for food, but the fee can go toward your bill. I haven't tried the raw bar, but the fried food is excellent-- love their fried clams and oysters and crunchy onion rings.
Everyone knows the Cape is a pain in the ass in season, but places like the Beachcomber make the ordeal of getting there worth it.
