First, its not called bean's place anymore. I think the new name is pass the thyme. The place itself is cute. Our waiter wasnt the best. He didnt check on us really. My pancakes were too doughy and coffee was bland. My friend enjoyed her french toast. Next time i visit the area ill try some place else.

Best breakfast place anywhere in this area. Great lunches too. Some of our fave items are the tomato bisque soup, panini of the morn, cottage fries, wheat berry bread, raspberry scones, muffins...oh heck it's all amazing! Plus the atmosphere is friendly and cozy. We go there with our two young children frequently.

A group of friends and I bike regularly in the Kinderhook/Valatie area (we live in Albany).  Part of our motivation for heading out that way is beautiful countryside and the other part is:  Bean's Place!  We just love ending our rides with delicious, filling, healthy, REAL food.

You really can't go wrong here.  The paninis are delicious, the soup incredible, the salads fresh, the baked goods yummy.  The decor is rustic but charming and cozy.  The owner and staff (mostly family, I believe) are friendly and attentive.  It's has a small town atmosphere, where people seem to know each other, but we never feel uncomfortable as the out-of-towners.

Once again, you yelpers have not let me down! I just moved near Kinderhook last week, so I have been turning to yelp to help me to know where to go. When I yelped Kinderhook, this was one of the places that popped up. I called for their hours at 1pm, and they told me they close at 2pm, so we got in our car and headed out.

If not for reading such great yelps, I doubt that I ever would have stopped at Bean's Place. The sign and outside of the building looked aged and worn. It didn't quite look like a "dive," but it didn't look all that exciting from the outside either. (Keep in mind, everything is dreary looking right now because of gray skies, old snow, and lots of ice.)

When we entered, we felt quite comfortable. The restaurant is very cozy. There are just a few tables and a sit down bar to eat at. Behind the bar, blackboard is painted onto the wall, and on it is the list of specials. While the specials all sounded really amazing, we ended up ordering from the menu.

I ordered the Bean's Special Salad without olives. Instead of salad dressing, I just had olive oil and lemon. (Their dressings all sounded really good, but I really like just olive oil and lemon.) My husband ordered the Turkey Reuben with Broccoli Slaw.

Both dishes were delicious. (ha! I rhymed! sort of...) My salad was huge, and it was very bright and vibrant. It had piles of mixed greens and romaine with tomatoes and avocado mixed in and topped with alfalfa sprouts. Everything was very fresh and tasty. My husband's sandwich came on grilled marble rye. The dressing tasted like homemade Thousand Island married with the sauce used in the broccoli slaw. It really was the best tasting Turkey Reuben ever! It came with a side of chips and a really delicious pickle spear.

The dining area was decorated in local art. In fact, while we were there, one of the artists was there changing out winter paintings for sunnier ones.

When the check came, we found out that they don't accept credit cards. (I skimmed through the yelps and must have missed that detail.) There is a sign on the door before walking in, right at eye level that says that they do not accept cards, but we missed it on the way in. (I am using the excuse that my 6'2" husband opened the door for me, and I did not see any signs on the door.) Thankfully, I actually had my check book with me (a rare occasion).

The vibe of the place was very comfortable. Many of the people there were calling the server by name, and many of them seemed to know each other as well. While they all seemed to know each other, we never felt like outsiders like in some small town establishments. The whole experience was very welcoming and comfortable.

We will definitely be going back. Our total came to $21 for both lunches and one iced coffee.

Oh, and I asked about their desserts, and they do make them fresh there. :)

I am ashamed to say that, as a resident of Kinderhook Village, it took me this long to write a review for Bean's Place.

On my recent visit for Sunday brunch, we had an excellent experience.  The food was great, and the bread...!!!  I know they don't bake it, but it's a part of a great meal that is very wholesome, and it won't make you feel like you just ate a tub of lard.  I like my breakfast big, and the portions did not disappoint.  Presentation and taste is on par with any of the best places to brunch in NYC or elsewhere.

The only downside is that the place is very small, so if you don't come early to claim the few tables they have, expect to wait a while.  Maybe you shouldn't come at all, so that I can get a table!  Prices are maybe a buck or two a dish more than the cheap grease joints, but I think it's worth it for a quality meal.

My family and I usually head to Main Street Diner in neighboring Valatie, but we will make Bean's Place a regular stop.

We finally had the chance to eat here today.  The service was wonderful, warm and inviting.  The food was delicious.  We both had one of the special omlettes:  tomatoes, prosciutto, and mozzerella cheese.  The toast (wheat berry) was delicious.

The coffee was excellent with free refills.  Add to this very reasonable prices (maybe even lower than the other places in the area) - excellent value for the money.

They are planning to stay open until 7pm on Fridays.  We will definitely go back for breakfast and lunch on the weekends and maybe try for dinner on Friday.

Bonnie and her chef brother have created the best small town cafe in the area. Forget the long drive to Hudson and stop in for the tastiest breakfasts, lunches and salads around. Each dish is made with love not to mention quality organic ingredients and served by Bonnie and her two sweet daughters. The prices are very reasonable. My favorite breakfast is havarti eggs with sauteed spinach, oven pan seared seasoned potatoes with wheat berry toast and a bottomless cup of Bean's awesome coffee. For brunch when I'm feeling decadent I'll opt for the roast beef, melted swiss and fried egg sandwhich on toasted marble rye w/ horseradish cream. Uhmmmm... I can taste it now. For those vegetarians, her salads are amazing! No iceberg lettuce here my friends. Bonnie uses organic mixed greens and spinach and tosses to perfection with all super fresh ingredients and dressings.

What really makes the cafe special besides the food is Bonnie'e genuine respect and care for her customers. She gets to know everyone by name and will go out of her way to prepare any dish for you even if it's not on the menu. Bean's Place is what all small town cafes strive to be. Delicious quality food served by family who love what they do would seem an easy recipe but, so many others fall short. So, if you're in the area and are looking for that special place to fill your stomachs while feeling the small town love, Kinderhook has it!

We are lucky to have this yummy option in Kinderhook!  This place has changed ownership and businesses many times, but it has been Bean's Place for at least a year now.

I went this morning for breakfast and ordered the omelet special - a veggie medley with green and red peppers, broccoli, onion, mushrooms and cheddar cheese.  It came with a side of real home fries and the thickest, most delicious marble rye toast ever.  It was yummy and filling for only $8.95!

My mom raves about their paninis (today's special was egg, mozz and tomato) and the pancakes looked pretty good too.

It's a small, cozy place and the owner Bonnie is great.  She visited with and seemed to know everyone that entered the door.  A must eat place when you are in town (and have had your fill of bagels from Bagel Tyme!)
