We have been customers for over 5yrs, but never again. In the last two years it has gone sooo downhill. Higher prices, smaller portions, 99% of the time very bad food. Crablegs always watery and still cold, can't get a simple temp right on a steak or sandwich. In the last 2yrs been there about 15+ times and maybe 4 were good. I must be a sucker for punishment, since I have also raved about the place and have been constantly embarrassed in front of guests. There is a reason this place is not as busy now - its consistanly BAD!!! One night (not busy) we did not receive potatoes on one dinner, the shrimp were overcooked on my scampi, the cod sandwich itself and the bun was like a hockey puck, and never received our soup, I could go on... Â the waitress said "oh!" alot. Tonite was the last straw, BEWARE -$4 Shmirnoff Martinis everyday, posted everywhere, even the chalkboard, and pushed by a waitress as a special. Great, I had a Schmirnoff Cosmo. Bill said $7.75 and when I asked if she could fix it, her and the brain surgeon bartender (manager? I sure hope not) came up with some bs excuse. Whatever, I'm sure you get my point. I don't have a money problem and I am not cheap, but don't you think after all the drink special pushing the waitress did, she could have let me know when I took her up on the offer?? Just feel ripped off as usual. No more chances BB's and I guarantee I will let anyone know when I can. There has got to be a reason your $5 burger night was empty. Oh that was overcooked, jerky burger anyone? So Sad.
Review Source:I went to Beer Belly's on a Friday night - it was busy but the staff was definitely on top of the situation. Â There was a lot of communication amongst the staff regarding clean towels, clean glasses, hot water in the cleaning stations, etc. Â Overall I got the vibe that mgmt was on top of things.
My steak was perfectly cooked, and the sides were fresh - the meal overall was delicious and definitely worth the price. Â I haven't tried the Wed/Sat prime rib but will make a point of it now.
The decor is very Milwaukee sports bar, but it completely fits. Â It's perhaps a little bright (though I did visit at 7:30, they may dim later on), but overall I'll definitely stop back.
With a name like beerbellys I would expect a much better line of beers or at least Wisconsin brews!?!? They didnt even have the full line of new Glarus. Â The one draft I had ($5.50) was not even that cold. Â Please get more beers and make sure they are cold for your customers. Â So beer 1 star for this place. Â Now the burgers are rocking and I highly recommend them! Â Service was great and had a very clean bar.
Review Source:Here in milwaukee for Summerfest and to eat at many of my old favorite haunts. Thought we would try Beer Belly's as we were staying around the airport and had never tried it and had heard and read good things. Friday night and was headed to Serb Hall. Saw Fish Fry at Beer Belly's, who would have thought. Stopped in and greeted promptly even though Belly's was busy. Seated and ordered from the great selection, walleye, perch, and blue gill to name a few. I ordered the walleye (fried) with french fries and coleslaw and my girl ordered the pan fried perch, potato pancakes, and slaw. The walleye was a tremendous portion, hot, lightly breaded, and delightful. The best I have had in some time. The french fries were old style and great. My girl's perch was excellent, the potato pancakes were served cold (unfortunately) but replaced with a heaping order of fries after alerting them to their miscue.
Overall we were extremely satisfied and definitely will return for another fish fry Friday or try something else. Pub fare at it's very best.
When we are back in town we will make it a definite place to dine.
Good drink prices, VERY good food. Never once have been disappointed coming here. Make sure you have time as the service is slow, but the food is worth the wait. Only real complaint I have is that they need to update some of their TVs as they are outdated and have a crappy connection. Get the Prime Rib Dip sandwich "philly style", amazing.
Review Source:Had to go down star based on a recent trip. Â
The restaurant itself is surrounding a full bar.....just not a fully stocked bar.
I went in for lunch on Sunday, and the waitress immediately offered me a beer. Â I told her I wasn't interested in beer, but asked if she had any cider. Â Not an unusual question, I thought, since anywhere else I go will usually rattle off the cider they carry (Strongbow, Crispin, Woodchuck, Mangers, etc.) Â But, the waitress just gave me a blank stare. Â So, instead, I rattled off the list of possible ciders they could carry. Â She turned to the girl working the bar and asked her if they carried any cider. Â She then looked back at me and asked, "Alcohol Right?!?" Â My response, "Um....Yeah". Â Then the waitress apologized that she was new to the whole "alcohol thing" and said she was only familiar with the basics. Â The bartender then came back up front from somewhere in the back and said all they have is a hot, spiced cider. Â Clearly, not understanding what I wanted. Â So, I settled with a Coke.
How is it possible to have a full bar and not have any clue what cider is? Â It is Everywhere!!!
So, as much as I liked them before, the lack of basic bar knowledge leaves me a bit disappointed.
First time here, last time too. Â
First Friday of Lent, time for some fish fry! Â Called for pick up around 6 pm and told her we would arrive in about 20 minutes. Â She said she would put it in at 6:10. Â Awesome! Â Crispy hot food when we get home. Â The person that answers the phone (Maria?) is fabulous. Â Super nice and accommodating. Â When ordering, I requested an extra piece of cod and fries for one and potato pancakes with the other. Â
When I arrived the place was uber busy. Â The lay out isn't very conducive to carry out. Â The bar takes up most of the entrance and you have to pay at the bar, so use your imagination. Â The bartender (very friendly) originally told me to wait near the entrance and then asked me to move to the other side of the bar. Â No problem. Â I can follow instructions. Â When I got around to the other side of the bar one of the waitstaff, we'll call her She-Ra, barked to move back. Â I told her i was picking up and she responded in a loving way (insert sarcasm) "Yeah, well, there are a lot of people in here right now. Â You need to move back". Â So I moved back and considered walking out. Â A man at the bar turned and asked me if I was helped. Â I replied "Yes, after I was yelled at." Â He stared at me for about 5 seconds and then turned around. Â Well, why'd you ask mister? Â I think he may be the owner, he was then at the door greeting his customers (which I am not?). Â Meanwhile I'm waiting and standing on top of some dude trying to enjoy his meal and She-Ra is texting and talking about "this sh&t is bad. Â I'd rather have 6 kids than deal with this sh&t". Â Wow, I think that 5 year old at the table to my left just repeated sh&t to their mother. Â Hi, customer here. Â Mind you, I can drop a bomb every now and then so I'm not so prudish as to believe people don't swear. Â Its usually not your waitstaff in ear shot of customers. Â Perhaps mister's daughter? Â Why else would she be so bold?
Our order finally was ready at 6:54 pm. Â So much for 10 minutes.
Oh wait, the food. Â I was so happy with my experience I almost forgot. Â Remember I said I ordered an extra piece of cod. Â Yeah, didn't get it, but paid an extra $2.75 for it and a $1.00 for take out. Â The fish was unremarkable (but big) and greasy. Â The coleslaw was standard, the marble rye soft and rye-ie, the fries, eh...greasy. Â I did like the potato pancakes, however, they were large.
So, if you want to go to a super loud, bad service, get yourself verbally abused, go to Beer Belly's. Â You won't forget your experience.
For an accurate and more detailed review, see Lindsey O's.
I was just the getaway driver. Â We called in the order from the road at 6:00 and said we would be arriving for pick-up in about twenty minutes. Â The nice lady on the phone (and then it takes a horrible turn) said she would put it in at 6:10 so it would be ready when we got there. Â At 6:20 ,Lindsey O went it to pick up the order (Fish Fry for us Catholic-types). Â At 6:30, no sign of Lindsey O so I called her cell and she explained that the order just went in at 6:20. Â This was after she was verbally abused by a server (our theory is owner's daughter but pure speculation only).
At 6:54, Lindsey O walked out with our soggy slop.
Due to absolutely horrid customer service, Beer Belly will never see these Os again.
In the past, I enjoyed eating here but the last few visits have been disappointing. Â I enjoy bar food normally but expect it to be good. Â When I ordered a hamburger at one visit, it was dry and the bun just ordinary (ie: cardboard flavor). Â I tried their ribs last time and was suprised at the small amount served. Â It looked like they had been cooked a long time ago, reheated and a tiny bit of BBQ sauce placed on top. There were 4 or 5 small pieces of ribs and the last two were so dry i couldn't bite into them. Â Service was fast but she only stopped once right after bringing our food but before we got to sample it, and then again after we were done. Â I mentioned that some of the ribs were too dry, she just said "Oh" and then took our plates away.
Review Source:This place was close to our hotel and was recommended by the concierge as a good sports bar and a place to watch the football games.
This place shouldn't be considered a sports bar. Â There a plenty of sports memorabilia on the walls, but there are only a handful of TVs... and they are small and crappy. Â They only have the local games... no Sunday Ticket. Â No Wi-Fi. Â And the stereo was blaring out crappy 80's music the whole time. Â Cindi Lauper and Ray Lewis don't mix. Â
We ordered wings when we first arrived. Â They were very good. Â However, once they were devoured, we left on our way to a different bar that was more in line to what we expected from a sports bar.
I came here while spending a random night in Milwaukee on a recent midwestern vacation. Â I totally enjoyed the atmosphere of this spot and was really stoked to find what I would consider a good beer... The bartender, a wonderful woman who I have since forgotten her name (sorry!), helped me decide on the "Spotted Cow" when I told her the kinds of beers I normally like. Â I loved it and was very impressed because I was worried Wisconsin might not own up on their beer the way California does.
They definitely did, thank goodness. Â If I'm ever back in Milwaukee again, I'll have to stop by!
We stayed near the airport and upon asking for a reccomendation for an affordable place that might serve some seafood, we headed to beerbellys.
The place served me a great meal. Prime rib and Alaskan crab leg in a bar? And yes it's a real live, grimy little bar. Don't go there expecting restaurant decor, it's a bar, with great food at a great price for the meal you are served. I got a 12 oz prime rib and 1 lb of crackers (scales must have been broke probably 2 lbs total) Â for like 22 dollars. I would have paid twice that minimum, anywhere else. And yes the spotted cow is very good beer from a non beer drinker.
Well, to begin, this part of town isn't one of Milwaukee's finest, so the neighborhood itself adds a bit of a grungy feel. Going in, however, it felt extremely "bar-like," and not in a good way. It was a pub, of sorts, but extremely loud, and it just looked dirty. That isn't to say that it was dirty--- but it just gave off that "dirty feel." The food wasn't bad. The paninis were pretty good, but they weren't what one of think of as a panini. It was more of a toasted sandwich. Typical pub food, in a sub-par pub atmosphere. It seems to me to be more of a place to go if, in Milwaukee, you wanted to re-create the movie "The Hangover" for yourself.
Review Source:I've been looking for a place to call home for my weekly grocery trip to Woodman's in Oak Creek and I think I stumbled upon it this evening.
Beer Belly's is bar food that's worth getting excited about. I've definitely got to stop on a Friday as their menu is the first I've seen with both smelt and bluegill on it. This evening, I had the Ragin' Cajun burger with fries and was happy with both. My burger was cooked to perfect and the fries were quite enjoyable as well. I had a buffalo wings appetizer which also was quite good...nothing spectacular, but definitely good enough for a return visit.
Prices were decent and service good. A comfortable atmosphere for the sports fan with multiple HDTVs throughout. Patio dining was also available.
Went here on a Sunday afternoon and had a WONDERFUL burger.  Even though I had to request lettuce, onion and tomato (which I feel should be standard issue), they were very accommodating, and didn't even charge me extra.  It did come with freshly sautéed mushrooms though, which were outstanding.  The service was great, and my friend's bacon cheeseburger was equally fantastic. Â
My only complaint is that there weren't any vegetarian options on the menu, besides sides and appetizers. Â
Still, it really was a shame that more people weren't there... although that could be because I came on a Sunday. Â They have a pretty big patio and many TVs inside to watch. Â I will definitely come back another day to sit outside!
I would come to a place like this to drink rather than eat. But I did go there to eat and I was left wanting a lot more. The menu was large and probably had something for everyone. Side salads...um more like lettuce that was cut up days ago, and left in the refrigerator with a couple slices of cucumber and tomatoes. Cucumbers that are opaque? Probably not safe to eat. Onion rings were pretty delicious as were the fries, hand cut, yum. My patty melt on the other hand, had a strange flavor, sorta like the ingredients had been sitting in a fridge too long and absorbed a stale taste. My boyfriend ordered prime rib - not the place you would usually order that, but it was one of their specials and he went for it. It was good, but not great.
So it's probably safe to say anything fried in this place will probably be good. But anything else, it's a toss up.
I had a cousin visiting from Manhattan who made one demand of me for his trip. Like any good old school Catholic, he said wanted to sample the best Friday fish fry Milwaukee had to offer.
And to me, that's Beer Belly's. Â
Now I say that this place is the best in fish fry alone. The exterior has all the charm of a restaurant named after an unfortunate physical attribute, located near a medium-sized Midwestern airport.
The service, even in a nearly-empty restaurant, is usually slow and lousy. It either takes them forever to take your order, deliver your food, bring you your bill, or bring your receipt back. Or all four of these things.
But if you're looking for the best Friday fish fry, this is it. It is moist and hot and flaky, and the portions I always receive leave me feeling like a tranquilized animal whenever I attempt to finish the whole thing. I have recently taken to eating half and bringing the other half home. It can really serve as at least a meal and a half.
So if you're looking for great service with a smile, mosey on down the line. But if the Pope is visiting and demands the finest Friday fish fry in all the land, feel confident in taking him down West Layton to Beer Belly's.
Sort of yum...
I was out in Milwaukee for business and came here with a couple of work colleagues. At other restaurants in the area, we'd been reading "Friday fish fry" in the menus all week and it was finally Friday and we were in a restaurant with fish fry so all three of us decided to go with the fish.
The fish was tender and moist and fried in a nice crisp batter. The dish came with a side of cole slaw and I asked for fries with my dish (though there were a few other options for sides). Overall, it was nice, but nothing outstanding about the experience.
There was a full bar and I got beer to wash down the greasy fried food. Our waitress wasn't v. attentive though and we had trouble tracking her down to get us ice water and again to refill our water cups. It was a busy night though, crowded, with lots of locals watching the baseball game or something.
I don't recommend going here, but I also don't discourage it. It's just an okay place.
We've been to Beer Belly's 2 or 3 times before, but those visits were always on weekends. Â So, I think we allowed a great deal of patience for table waiting, food delivery, etc. Â Last night, we thought a Tuesday night would be pretty quick and easy as we had some other errands. Â We were seated and had drink and food orders taken right away, but then proceeded to wait almost an 45 minutes until our food arrived. Â My husband and I both ordered sandwiches - one was the daily special and one was a BLT. Â Seemed like a pretty simple order. Â After about 25 minutes, we flagged the waitress down (who had not stopped by once to refill our empty drinks.) Â She said that the food was "almost ready" but there were three parties ahead of us. Â No apologies - just a statement of fact. Â Based on the amount of additional time it took to get the food (15 minutes), I suspect she forgot to put the order in and didn't want to admit it. Â The first apology we got was right before I had to sign the credit card slip for the tip. Â We had a coupon and strangely, I had to sign a separate slip to verify the coupon was valid?!?
Not worth it for us to go back. Â Plenty of other nearby restaurants with food that is more interesting and service that is more efficient.
Never understood the appeal if this place. Ok ribs. ok beer. ok food. Â Usually too crowded. Â The few times I was here, it was usually at the request of co-workers who wanted to rave about the friday fish specials. Â I always left wondering "why"? The one bright spot here -- the staff -- they were always been outstanding.
Review Source:Nothing was bad, but nothing was great - besides the service! Â Consensus was that the mixed drinks were weak, the fries were good, and the oversized french rolls made the sandwiches a bit dry. Â The non-smoking area was approximately 10 feet from the smoky bar, which didn't quite do the trick.
