Service was fast and friendly. Pasta was average but not bad at all. Bread came out hot but the butter was in packets - why?? Minestrone soup was meh, wouldn't have gotten it if it didn't come with the meal. Prices are alright considering you get a soup/salad with your entree. Portions are enormous. The place was clean, new-looking, and fairly nicely decorated in a modern sort of way. Not too crowded when I went on a weekday night. Overall, nothing special about this place, but not a bad option if you're in the area and want an Italian-American restaurant. Not authentic by any means, but everything tasted fine.
Review Source:Depending on what your looking for this can be a good place to stop. Â Better then your average pizzeria's dishes but not as good as a nice italian restaurant.
Had the stuffed Mushrooms, just ok. Â then had a pasta dish with eggplant and mozzarella. Â It was very good. Â Heard some people complain that they give you way to much sauce, but I like it that way. Â My wife had the tilapia, said she enjoyed it.
Not the warmest atmosphere and thought the prices were reasonable for what we ordered. Â Would go back again.
I am new to Yelp so I was checking out a few new places to eat. Â So many of the restaurants I wanted to try were only getting 3 out of 5 stars so I decided to check a place that I know is good. Â And it is only getting 3 out of 5 stars as well, so I have to think some people are just too critical.
I have been to Bensi's 3 times since it opened. Â Twice for lunch and once for dinner. Â The food was better than expected for a chain as some of it was obviously homemade, like the freshly made potato chips that came with the meatball parm sandwich at lunch. Â The meatballs were not as good as homemade but they were probably the best I have had from a pizza shop or chain restaurant.
The calamari was better than other places, even Olive Garden's (I just wish they had Olive Garden's white sauce).
The salads were good and big enough to share. Â The pasta did not seem homemade so I was a little disapointed in that but it was still better than pizza shop pasta.
I think the prices are great, especially with the 15% off coupon that comes in our weekly mailings. Â I do not mind paying for a good meal.
Each time we go we say we can not wait to come back and try a different dish.
So I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this place, considering that my girlfriend and I most likely won't visit this place again (not for a long time, anyway) but what I do know is that this place was just decent. Overall experience: C+. I'd give it more along the lines of 3.5 stars, but I'd feel barely enthusiastic about that, so I knocked it down to 3.
As others described, this place can be pretty packed; the service can also be a bit slow (and with a slight attitude from the middle aged waitress). Granted, our table of 4 had one of us making some "unique" requests about their meal, but nothing that was too hard to handle. The rest of us ordered easy stuff straight off the menu (chicken parm, etc.). During the service, the waitress rarely checked in on us to refill glasses, but some of the other staff filled in for her and we didn't really lack anything. The decor of the place was all right, we had a nice comfortable booth for the 4 of us.
So, the food? Meh. Boring, really. It wasn't bad, and nothing was really under or overcooked (pasta was pretty well done) but the biggest problem I had with it was that it was DROWNING in tomato sauce. American Italian restaurant chains just don't get it. It seems to be ALL about the sauce, but the highlight of the dish should be the pasta. Â The chicken parm was pretty good, but lacked... something, and it was smothered with cheese AND sauce. So, you see, I had enough sauce that night (on the side-dish of linguini, which seemed too thin, more like spaghetti). Don't get me wrong, I LOVE a good pasta dish with sauce (sometimes I'm even guilty of putting a lot of sauce on my own food when I cook it) but this was overkill. I could've filled a pitcher with all the friggin' sauce. Also, the salad that I opted to have was also a boring iceberg lettuce salad, and the bread was blah (they barely gave us some). Our table also had one of the sauteed spinach sides, and it was SO garlicky that I was afraid to open my mouth after dinner! Thank heavens for always carrying some mints!
Finally, the desserts were uninspired, and few.
All in all, a decent, average (if your expectations are low) and not too pricey joint, but I remember comparable, or even better meals and service at an Olive Garden.
I have to say the WORST!!!! Service!!!! The food is not even good. The service was slow and then when we asked to have the leftovers to go the guy tries to carry all the plates at once and we told him not too. But he insisted he can and while doing so he spilled red sauce over my wifes bag and on my daughters jacket. The worst place and service ever. I only gave it a star because it seems like I have to in order to write a comment. This place I would never go back to. There are so many better pizza joints that make better food then here. Highly do not go!!!!!
Review Source:This is the kind of place I try to avoid: soulless corporate chain restaurants.
Think TGI Friday pretends to be an Italian restaurant. Â Please.
The warmed-up bread has no crust.  Getting butter in plastic mini-tubs with a foil seal just screams authentic upscale Italian, right?  Wines by the glass are the cheapest brands  you can find.  Having little tacky stand-up lists of the available festive cocktails on your tabletop staring at you just adds to the decor.
Dinner entrees come with a choice of soup or salad or pasta.  Just so WASP boardroom  The location in a shopping center also adds much-desired element of screaming children.
The price was mitigated by a Groupon deal, otherwise I would have considered it a rip-off. Â With the discount, it was just a waste.
This place is absolutely horrendous. My husband and I wanted to get some Italian close to home, so we figured we should give this place a try. The quality of food is terrible. Alfredo sauce was extremely watery, salmon was cooked perfectly, but the sauce killed the entire dish (pappardelle Alfredo with Salmon). Side salads are chunks of iceberg lettuce served in tiny plates - extremely inconvenient to eat. Calamari was mediocre, My husband's veal parm was not that great either. The waiter was great, but the food took very long even though it was not that busy. Will never go to this place again. Huge disappointment.
Review Source:This review has NOTHING to do with the food! The food is great. The focus is primarily on the service and more specifically a waitress I've had twice.
After dining here a 3rd time with one of my girlfriends yesterday, we were unlucky and got the waitress we had the first time we tried this place out. I failed to mention it in my previous review because I was mainly concentrating on the food which I was more than happy with both times, but after the 2nd time we got this waitress, it was enough to leave us annoyed throughout the whole meal.
So the first time I ate here with 2 of my girlfriends, this waitress was extremely slow in everything - she took forever to bring our food out, barely refilled our drinks and when she would, she would forget what we were having and would have to ask us. To top it off, after paying our bill and being almost out the door, she chases us thinking she hadn't brought out our check yet, but little did she know she already had and we already paid.
Fast forward to last night, after settling in our booth and being greeted by the infamous waitress again, we both had a bad feeling after we recognized it was the same waitress we had during our first meal. She was up to her old tricks once again. Although nice, she was just a bad waitress. We ordered 2 apps and an entree and my gf asked that they all be brought out at the same time - just to be sure she confirmed it twice before the waitress finished taking our order. The food starts to come out and we get our Calamari, a few minutes later we get our Eggplant Rollatini, (at this point we're thinking Yay No Screw-ups!) WRONG! We were nearly stuffed with our apps by the time our Penne Vodka came out. Before our last dish came out, my gf even signaled to the waitress and said "Oh we were just wondering when our Penne was coming out since I had asked you that ALL the food be brought out at the same time" and the waitress responds back with a straight face, "Oh it should be coming out any minute now." She responded as if there was nothing wrong and she actually followed the request, I wasn't sure if my gf was speaking another language?! LOL When she brings the Penne, she says "HERE IT IS!!! I hope you girls are hungry!!!", like we should have been excited or something. And once again my water was empty half way through the meal with no refill. My gf had to ask the waitress for our drinks to be refilled. In taking away our glasses (I had a Water and my gf had a Sweetened Ice Tea), the waitress says "Diet Coke right?" to my girlfriend. The place was not crowded so not sure how easily forgetful she is. The bill was fine this time and we weren't chased out like criminals, but if we ever decide to eat here again, we will definitely be on the look out in avoiding this waitress. She's short, blond, and middle-aged. BEWARE!!!
I had wanted to try Bensi for a while and was disappointed with my meal.  I ordered the baked sea scallops for my entrée.  The scallops were dull, boring and without flavor.  The herb seasoned crumbs were very plain tasting and not what I expected at all.  It seemed as though the scallops were boiled and then tossed into the mixture and not baked all together. Â
My companions enjoyed their meals, perhaps it is not best to order seafood here? Â I was also surprised to find out this a chain restaurant.
Not in a rush to go back.
This is a great new addition to the joisey hood I end up in a lot! The only reason I suspected it was a chain (and it is, albeit a tiny one) is that it's in a plaza and pretty much everything here is a chain. However, this place rocks! I've only really been to the bar/loungish area here, but the calamari was quite good, and I saw some really yummy looking stuff coming out of the kitchen.
Leo and Kevin are great bartenders, so you better tip them well when you go. The white pear martin and the flirtini are both yummy, and they can be made strong or weak, as you like 'em.
Another nice touch is that Bensi is located just over the county line, so they can keep the bar open til 2, unlike everywhere else just down the road that has last call at 12:30!
Good drinks, awesome bartenders, friendly clientele, and a menu that I am itching to get in my belly? Five stars for sure.
