Such a unique, delicious restaurant with a fantastic setting in a classic New England town. Service was a tad slow. Server was super nice but a little spacy. However, our cocktails, salads, and entrees were delicious,

I was most pleased with the strong flavors! I am going to try to re-create the spiced butternut squash salad some day soon. Absolutely delicious. I ordered the surf and turf - hanger steak was ridiculous. I ordered it medium - don't order it any more well done that that. I asked the server about the temp and she laughed and told me I should really be ordering medium rare... Maybe next time!

One crucial flaw in my meal - the lobster tail still had the entrail line! Gah! Don't do that to your customer. If you are serving a lobster tail, that is a really basic task - take it out! Nothing on the plate should be unedible... That's my 2 cents for today.

Other than that, great food! Maybe the servers need a little more training but other than that, we will check it out again.

This place is amazing. Always a great meal and you can just tell the food is prepared fresh and with care. The owner/chef comes out to sit and chat with every table after you get into your food, and genuinely cares about what you have to say - good or bad about the food and the restaurant. A fun, cozy place that you'll go back to more than once.

My husband and I visited bia bistro after hearing rave reviews from friends and family. Unfortunately, our first impression will be our last. Our drinks were very strong, which I usually don't complain about, but they were almost un-drinkable. We were willing to overlook that, but then our appetizer arrived. The menu described our salad as having local heirloom tomatoes (our favorite). Some of the tomatoes on the salad were in fact heirloom, local- hopefully. However a few tomatoes didn't have the heirloom look, and then I found a sticker still on one of them.... And it revealed the tomatoes origin- Canada! We quietly brought this to our waitresses attention, as to not upset the surrounding guests. She sent the 'manager' over to apologize, and she explained that the delivery truck today did not ship adequate heirlooms for the evening. (Mind you it was before 7pm). She said in this event, they do their best to substitute appropriately. With several nearby supermarkets, and it being summer in New England, we felt that their efforts fell short and the least they could do is buy local tomatoes, and explain when we ordered that not all tomatoes would be local heirlooms as described on the menu. We expected the appetizer to be compensated, or perhaps  a round of stiff drinks on the house. We received nothing but an apology. If the true manager had been on, or if the owner knew what had happened, surely the meal or at least the appetizer would have been compensated. For these reasons, we will not be visiting bia bistro in the future.

Friendly if pretentious. The dishes were reasonably sized, not quite reasonably priced, but worth it. Had the veg risotto with scallops... I liked it. The pizza wasn't impressive - not a great place for kids or picky younger sisters. Overall, fresh and tasty. Quite good.

I live within a half mile of this place. Have been there a couple dozen times over the years. Always reliable, always good. Nuf said.
Only quibble is that it is small and when crowded service can be slow. Not attentiveness mind u...small kitchen and I think it may be hard for them to get out all of these orders when packed, as the place seats a lot more people than the outside may make u think it could.

Great atmosphere, so if u want to hang no worries, if not it may be an issue.

I repeat...very good food, very consistent.

i am SO disappointed in BIa Bistro. I had heard great things about this place, and honestly, it was not good.

The chowder was good.  The beet salad was good.  That's where it ended.

I was VERY excited about the seasonal vegetable risotto with scallops.  The risotto was crunchy.  I'm fairly certain the veggies were from a bag.  Also, it was soupy.  I am not a great cook and my risotto is better.  What a WASTE OF CARBS!!!

My husband had the 'steak frites' another disappointment.  The fries were not fresh.  The meat was not seasoned.

If it was just one of our meals I would have said that the chef had an off night.

    Also, service was VERY slow.

I wouldn't go there every again. What a waste of time and $100.00.

One good positive was they were very attentive to gluten issues.  But honestly, if you have a gluten issue - just go to Burton's.

This is a small place but the weather was nice so we ate outside.

There were four of us.  Mostly got seafood entrees which were very good.  I had the short ribs which were everything short ribs should be tender, juicy and flavorful.  It was a very good meal with good service.

Recommend it and would stop in again.

Intimate and cozy, the food here is simply the best on the South Shore.  My only complaint is that the menu doesn't change enough.  But the food on the regular menu and the specials are terrific, the service solid, and the consistency is always there.

Simply divine from start to finish.  Went out for a mid week to celebrate a promotion a friend had received.  We started off at the bar with an attentive bartender who kept our drinks fresh.  Waitress was prompt, knowledgable and anticipated our every need.  The menu was varied without being overwhelming, lots of simple choices, local selction.  My salmon was outstanding, my husbands steak was cooked to perfection.  Bia is such a nice little treat to have so close.

Located in the small downtown area of Cohasset, MA. We went to dine there on a very busy Saturday evening.

Make sure to reserve in weekends, especially since the Music Circus attendees go out eating there then during the season.

Avoid eating at the bar or at the high tables with bar stools. They are very uncomfortable and to tight together, so you can listen in on other people's conversations and have to move every time the waitress comes.

Parking is easy on the street.

The interior is very attractive and cozy although it is a fairly large operation, Ideal for romantic diners.

Food is great and abundant, with lost of menu choices..

Our waitress was very inattentive, hard to find and slow to serve,. too self-absorbed and chatting with colleagues. Other waitresses seemed much better organized.

Would nevertheless eat there again. Next time I'll point out to the waitress though (if we have the bad luck of getting her again) that she needs to pay attention to her customers and either look at their table or walk by regularly at frequent intervals as good servers do. A turnaround of almost 2 hours for a two person meal is really not acceptable.

I went on a Friday evening mid-August 2011. The room we had was so loud we had to yell across the table to be heard. We had 4 people and not one meal was anything but ok. The waitress was slow and did not even refill our water once in the 1.5 hours it took to be served. The beef shortribs were probably ok but they took so long to come we had to leave to make our concert and we were unable to enjoy them. The meatballs were loaded with fillers and the pasta was el double dente... The place was pricey and frankly none of us will ever go back. Marginal food ,very pricey, poor service. My wife just reminded me that the clam app was devoid of any clams or clam parts but the bread crumbs were tasty.

If you haven't been in since the remodel where they expanded the bar, you need to stop by. In addition to the fine dining in the rooms around the back, there is now a real local pub atmosphere. Stop by to grab a pint and try one of their flatbreads (the duck confit is my favorite).

If you live on the south shore and you haven't yet been to Bia you should plan on getting there.  With a newly extended bar even hanging for a drink or two is a great experience.   The food is top shelf the atmosphere fun and the people are great. More to come.

What a disappointment this place has become. I went in a month or so ago with my wife and son. We should have ran as soon as our son's milk was served. He looked up and said 'This milk tastes weird'. Sure enough- it was beyond foul. They were apologetic of course but still... The rest of the meal was entirely average food that was over priced. Still, having had good food there in the past, I went in again 2 nights ago. This time I get an $11 beet and goat cheese salad that was minuscule in its portion, had what I can only assume was canned beets, and worst of all was full of rotting- not wilted- rotting greens. I picked out about a 5th of the salad before giving up. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 was for the couple of good meals I had on the terrace over the summer. The kitchen doesn't seem to care anymore. Stay Away!

Warning: I am about to write a glowing review.

I absolutely loved the courses I had at Bia Bistro.  My boyfriend and I never venture to Cohasset, but he had heard good things about Bia Bistro.  We were seated immediately on a Sunday night at 5:30pm.  We were the only couple in the restaurant, but by the time we left later on, there were no available tables left!

We opted out of the Valentine's Day menu and explored the entire menu.  I loved my Peach Pomegranate Holiday Martini as well as the complimentary bread with oil and balsamic vinaigrette.  For appetizers, we shared the "Escargot Bourguignonne with puff pastry, red wine and herbs"($14) and six fresh Duxbury oysters ($2.50 each).  We heard the waitress tell another table that the oysters were in season, and they were definitely the better than other places we've had them.  They were served on a bed of arugula and accompanied with balsamic vinaigrette and relish.  The escargot was delicious, and I enjoyed nothing more than dipping the bread in the accompanying green sauce as well.

Our entrees included the "Citrus Glazed Long Island Duck Breast with rosemary and maple roasted sweet potatoes, crisp confit leg, and cassis jus" ($25) and my "Guiness Braised Beef Short Ribs with blue cheese whipped potatoes."  The short ribs were from the "Splits" section of the menu, which typically offers a lunch or dinner portion of the dish for $13 or $24.  My intention was to order the dinner portion for $24 to share, but, of course, I devoured everything and left nothing on my plate.

Isn't there always room for dessert?  How could we resist the Molton Chocolate Cake with Starbucks Java Chip Ice Cream?  It was served with blueberries and a singular chocolate covered strawberry, which my boyfriend let me have (what a keeper).  The cake tasted like it was made with dark chocolate, and we finished the entire thing.  It was soo good!

We loved this restaurant, and we are interested in visiting its sister restaurant in Norwell as well.  The staff and atmosphere are friendly and inviting.

I ate here once a few summers ago with my mom and brother.  We started off outside on the cute patio on Main Street, but we had to end up moving inside because the mosquitoes got so bad (warning to those eating here in the summer.) Once we were free of mosquitoes, the food was delicious (good meat and polenta), the service friendly and helpful, and the ambiance cozy. Think hearty fare- you can't go wrong with a good beef dish here.  I would definitely eat here again next time I'm in town.

When you move to a new place you have to find all new favorite places, which is not easy. It's been over 8 months and I finally found my new favorite restaurant. Prior to my dinner at Bia Bistro I hadn't eaten anywhere locally where I thought "I have to come back here".  (Well, I do like Wild Ginger for take-out Thai but that's a different type of scene).

I enjoyed the atmosphere inside. We sat at a high-top 2-top table near the bar which was more enjoyable than being in the back dining room, if you ask me. For starters, our waitress was terrific. I forget her name but she had an Irish brogue and she made some excellent recommendations regarding both wine and menu.

My husband and I were each interested in a different wine so we opted for glasses instead of sharing a bottle.  She brought them both over to the table for us to taste and then gave us very generous pours.

The menu here is interesting.  They have starters, bar portions, half portions and entrees so we had to ask about what the sizes meant. Our waitress was very helpful in saying things like "the full  meal has 6 scallops while the half portion has 3". Not that I needed to know exactly what amount of food I'd be getting but since it was our first time we wanted to make sure we ordered enough, but not too much.

With so many choices we opted  for sharing a few smaller plates. We each started with a lobster stuffed oyster. (You could order them individually, which was nice). It was okay but probably the least memorable thing we ate all night. The "lobster" part of the stuffing was barely identifiable.  Then we split the anti pasto which was very good, but not at all what we expected. It was more like a green salad with some cheeses & meats. I didn't expect all of the green, but I enjoyed it.   During this time we also enjoyed warm, homemade bread dipped in a mixture of good quality oil and vinegar.

Our next dishes were the highlights of the evening. We shared small plates of the the penne Bolognese and the short rib (which arrived on a bed of mashed potatoes with sliced carrots and asparagus). The short rib was melt in your mouth tender, and delicious. The Bolognese was wonderful too - a perfect blend of spicy, acidic tomato with just a hint of cream. It's a pretty basic dish but done right, it's delicious.

We ordered on the heavier side because it was a chilly night, but I'm looking forward to going back and trying the spicy seafood stew and the scallops next time.

This place was a great combination of atmosphere, food, wine and service. It all worked.

My yoga buddies stop by there often after class for wine and an appetizer.  They are so accommodating and I love that they bring the wine to the table to pour.  Very cool!  Everything that I have had from their menu is incredible.  Cozy and charming interior and welcoming staff.  Love it.

My wife and I had a great dinner at Bia Bistro before a concert at South Shore Music Circus. I had mussels and the braised beef ribs while my wife had the pate and the pasta with bolognese sauce. The kitchen nailed it across the board. The mussels, in particular, were incredible. Service was excellent and timely. Only problem we had, and it's a pet peeve, was a wobbly table. But it didn't overshadow the great food and service.

I know 5 stars is a bold statement but with my one experience, it deserves it. My girlfriend and I went to Cohasset to see how classy people behave and we came across the green and Church in the little town center. We went on a Sunday and most things were closed but we were very hungry. We were hesitant to go to BIA because it looked pricey and considering it was in a rich town, we were sure it would be. But when the girl gets hungry, she gets grumpy so I figured we'd better just have at it. They have a nice little deck but apparently there is a church bell concert every Sunday in the summer at the church across the street and it sounded like my night terrors so we opted for the indoor seating instead. Its much classier than im used to but then again, so is the Picadilly Pub.

At first we were just going to get appetizers figuring the entrees would be too pricey. The entrees ranged from $16 to $30 but they had a nice little bar menu with more reasonable fare. We sat at the bar because the tables had some weird white clothes covering them and this confused and scared me. The bar was small but nice and they have guiness and harpoon on tap. The food did take a little while to arrive but it was well worth it. We ordered a $4 and an $8 appetizer and both were generous portions, especially for a bistro. We ordered a $9 pizza and it was damn good and big! It was so big that we couldn't even finish it but I made my girlfriend finish it with a series of threats since she's the one who was whining about being so hungry in the first place. The waitstaff was friendly enough too. I'd go back......if they'd let me.

So this is the first time I posted on one of these things, and my going through the hoops just to be able to write this should tell you something.  My wife and I went to Bia's in Cohasset last week, June 2010: we sat outside.  We were served ice water and bread to begin the night.  I picked up two different rolls out of the basket and both of the rolls had bright blue mold on them.  It was disgusting.  We had the waitress send the rolls back and got fresh ones (after examination we ate the new rolls...but does one have to examine their food at a "fancy" restaurant???)  We ordered two full size meals: veal meatballs/pasta meal and the scallops/risotto meal.  The risotto was good, but the scallops were boring and not very flavorful.  The veal meatball dish was decent.  I also got two draft beers and my wife got water.  My issues were that the veal meatballs dish was 18 bucks and the six scallops were 24 bucks.  By far over priced.  Overall with the moldy bread I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.  Nothing on the bill was comped.  I didn't ask, because I don't like to do that, but I was secretly hoping that even a beer would be taken off the bill, but no such luck.  I left disappointed and sixty bucks in the hole.

Our Bia Bistro experience began because I had heard such good reviews about this tiny, quaint restaurant in downtown Cohasset.  The hostess was very friendly and our server was also.  The food was a let down.  We all ordered salads - 3 beet and greens salads with goat cheese and one house salad.  The beet salads were very disappointing with about 1/4 cup of chopped beets and a tiny handful of greens sprinkled over the top with a scant teaspoon of goat cheese.  We all ordered flatbreads - a pizza.  We all chose the slow roasted Tomato and Cheese flatbread. The flatbreads were bland and covered with cheap cheese and very few tomatoes (maybe 4 grape tomatoes) - not what you'd expect at a high end, expensive restaurant.  We ordered the vanilla bean creme brulee and the molten chocolate desserts.  The creme brulee was good, but the molten chocolate dessert was tiny with a tiny dollop of Starbucks mocha-chip ice cream.  Starbucks?  Not your own?  Come on!

Bia is great restaurant addition to Ochasset - Boston quality food in the burbs.  Cozy little interior with a bar area right in the front.  My wife and I had an amazing dinner here.  To start, the balsamic vinegar to dip with bread is the best I've had.  So sweet you don't need any oil.   We got a flat bread to start which was actually larger than expected and very good.  I ordered the duck w/ crispy duck leg confit which was the best duck I've had anywhere.  Tender and rich with a delicious sauce, but the best part was the crispy leg confit.  Not usually a fan, but it was cooked to perfection.  Crunchy and salty but not overly fried.  My wife had a scallop special which she raved about.

All in all a great experience and awesome food.  Prices are not that bad considering the food quality (roughly 18-26 for an entree).  We'll certainly be back.

I think Bia had an off night based on the other reviews.  Four entrees took an hour to serve, two arrived before the others and the remaining two entrees arriving more than five minutes later.  :(

The server did not managing the slow wait very well -- it would have been nice to have have a complimentary appetizer while we waited.

Another issue was my entree.  I ordered what I thought was the full plate serving of the short rib tortellini; however six raviolis arrived, luke warm.  I protested to our server, who dutifully went to the kitchen to get an explanation.

Our server explained that the pasta was actually tortelloni and the full serving was six.  I know I'm coming off sounding like a huge pain in the ear, but this bothered me because the pasta wasn't tortelloni or tortellini... It was ravioli!!

That aside, if the full portion is six, it seems a bit meager -- however, full disclosure I'm pregnant and have a larger than normal appetite.  Nothing to accent the pasta (no veggies etc.) just six lonely, warm-ish and overly salty raviolis.

My companions did enjoy their meals very much.  SO once the kitchen got the dishes out, things were OK.

I will go back, because I feel that it was a bad night for the kitchen.  Maybe someone was sick or they didn't get a shipment of food in or something.  I'll update my review at that point.

This is a very fine restaurant and, with one exception, it provided my party of four a superior dining experience. We had reservations for 6:30 on a Saturday night and we were seated immediately upon arriving. The setting is extremely attractive and comfortable,  fostering quiet and pleasant conversation. There is a small but highly cozy bar.
The menu is very creative featuring many standbys sporting a new twist. There were multiple items I could have selected from among the appetisers, salads and entrees. One would have no difficulty in making a good selection. Everything we ordered, with one exception, was outstanding.
I would rate Bia Bistro higher but for a very long delay between appetisers and entrees (45 minutes). Our party enjoyed each others' company, but even at that it became too long a wait. One of the entrees was not hot when it arrived. Aside from these two issues, neither of which would stop me from going back for another try to see if they were outriders, my party had a fine dining experience at this restaurant. The server was very gracious, apologised for the cold entree and took it off the bill without being asked.
All in all, a solid 4 Stars and I'm eager to return.

Great local bistro,  just changed the menu on Jan 29, 2010.  Have covered most items on the previous menu,  looking forward to the same fun on the new menu.  Brian runs a great spot in the village,  service is spot on,  thankful to have this high caliber dining in Cohasset.  When we can't get a table here we will settle for Square Cafe

Before you read our opinion, I'll say that we enjoy all types of food, in all price ranges. That said, we'd expected more from this place only because of the reviews.  We were hoping to try some things that we could only dream of cooking ourselves. We were prepared to dine, but ended up just eating.

If we lived in the neighborhood, we'd come here often for a nice, casual meal.  Bistro is a bit of a  misnomer, as this was straight-forward American cuisine. Heavier on the salt & pepper, light on the herbs (except fennel, which was everywhere), butter, and sauces.  You liked Harvest in Cambridge? You'll love this place.

Everything we ordered was prepared well, but nothing really stood out. The duck confit was straight-forward, as was the chicken. The mushroom truffle risotto was a bit thin & not very creamy. The short ribs were cooked almost perfectly (with no fat or sinew), a little dry, and were less flavorful that others we've had in the past. I guess we were hoping that certain items would be more rich/lush, with more levels of flavor.

The tilapia special was the only true disappointment, and only because it contained fennel.......something we wished our server had mentioned (as we both dislike seafood with fennel).

On the plus side, I'd say every dish was prepared with health consciousness in mind..... If that's what you're looking for, Bia is worth a try.  It's a safe, if not conservative, bet.

    Good luck SouthShorers!

One of the reasons I wanted to go to Bia Bistro was b/c of the cheese plate on the dessert menu - I don't have a sweet tooth so it's the perfect choice for me.

It was a trio that made our way down 3A into lovely Cohasset on a Tuesday night. We started on appetizers w/the duck, antipasto and flatbread...my sister who is not an adventurous eater loved the duck. They were all fantastic.

Entrees chosen were the divine short ribs, creamy mushroom risotto and cider glazed pork chops - all of which were savory and delicious. (It is also a bonus on the menu to have the "split" option which is still more than enough food for an entree.)

The only negatives: typically Tuesday isn't a busy night but this Tuesday they were busy so the service was slow and I was so full after my entree I had no room for dessert! Oh well, just an excuse to go back soon..

If you have never tried Brian's 'tiny veal meatballs' or his 'Guinness braised short ribs' you simply must go.  As others have said, this is a Boston/NYC/Miami quality restaurant in the sleepy Boston suburb of Cohasset but well worth the drive. We have been going to Bia for years and every person / couple we have ever brought has been amazed at the wonderful food here.

Ahem, can you please BIA little more attentive? Seriously!? The service and kitchen turnaround here is just attrocious. This is just sad and frustrating for me because I really believe the restaurant in concept, theme, location, and the execution of these elements is really spot on.  Unfortunately, crappy service and lenghty waits nearly negates all of this.

I can't emphasize enough how much Bia Bistro has a going for it.. It's really one of the only Bistro/Bostony kitchy eateries on the South Shore, has a well executed design as far as decor and corresponding menu offerings are concerned, and is fairly priced.

So what could ruin all of this? How about snubby, slow service and extreme waits for drinks, apps, and entres.

Our table of four waited for over an hour to be served despite being sat almost imediately on the comfortable and quaint patio.  The interior is dark and sexy, but also warm and comfortable.  A small bar and low ambient lighting greets you as you enter through the fabric draped vestibule, and the low ceilinged, intricately nooked dining room is filled with small tables and yuppy patrons.  The menu is generous in its variety of offerings, and each of us were able to order 4 different entrees. Also Bia features a full bar, so if their decent wine selection or beers available won't suffice, a stiffer option is an available option...

I selected the pork tenderloin paired with mashed pertaters (potatos to the layman) and aspargras.  It was actually really good, so no complaints there. My girlfriend had hte mushroom risotto. I thoguth it was just decent,  but she did love it.  My mommy had a flank steak and she raved about that, I did sample it thought it was very good as well. My dad had roast chicken over risotto, and he raved about that as well.

Overall, I'd say the food was 4 stars, the dining room 4 stars, and the service a 1 star.

I'm extremely hard to please and I love Bia Bistro.  The best PEI mussels hands down.  Bia Bistro also has wonderful bread with a delicious carmelized balsamic vinegar/olive oil dip.  The salads are excellent and the entrees are also extremely delicious.  It's located in a quaint area of Cohasset village and they also allow you to call in and take out...this is a must do for families with small children who just have a hard time getting out of the house...bring the elegance to you...after the kids are in bed s'il tu plait.  Prices are reasonable and the chef is very friendly.  My wife and my favorite restaurant.

This is a lovely little hideaway in Cohasset in their little town.  It doesn't look like much from the outside (although there are tables/chairs on the patio and i bet it will be great for the summer) but inside you walk into a lovely, sexy spot.

We made reservations at 5PM for 7:45 on Friday (for 2) and the service was wonderful.  Our server James was very nice and professional as were the other servers. A really nice upscale casual place.

Dinner was awesome, I had a greens salad to start with a sprinking of VT goats cheese and Seafood Stew as my main.  My husband had the antipasti and braised short ribs in guinnes with blue cheese mash.  That was amazing.  We split a molten chocolate cake with java chip. Rich and small, just right.

They serve oil and vinegar with bread and the vinegar is to DIE for if you have a sweet tooth.  It is so sweet and not harsh at all, i could have eaten it all night.

I highly reccomend this little place. We went there as i bougght a $10 certificate on <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frestaurant.com&s=c5fe485af4df376130bee54f875814d79c4d7913e1258123b1206d2bdbf4873b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://restaurant.com</a> for $3.00 and we will go back many many times without the certificate.

A little stylish find on the South Shore.
