We stopped at Big Papas after arriving in Scotrun to take the kids to Great Wolf to play Magic Quest, but we wanted to feed before entering the resort. We spotted Papa's nearby and popped in for a pizza. Nothing satiates hungry little wizards like greasy pizza. Now I know what's on the banquet tables at Hogwarts!
Inside, there are about 10 tables. Decor is typical pizzaria...a few nods to Italy, but otherwise non-descript. We sent our wizards to use the bathroom prior to food, but they came back with reoprts of the sink (and later, we found, toilet) not working. Kind of have to wonder how that sign "employees must wash hands after using toilet" gets executed. Eew. Otherwise, the inside was clean. Two or three tables are also located outside, if you enjoy watching the exodus of cars from NY/NJ bespeckled with Yankee bumper stickers on a Saturday afternoon.
Our large half-pepperoni was about $14. I have to to tell you, where a pizza place counts is in the pizza. This one delivered. We were warned to let it cool- which all except our oldest, and sometimes self-proclaimed wisest wizard, did....and he was rewarded with a lump of cheese that fell off the nose of the slice. Good things come to those who wait- and listen, dear wizardlet. The crust of the pizza was the strong point. Not overtly thick, but strong enough to support the rest of the slice, as if the crust was cantilevered underneath. Good texture to the crust, also. Good, good, good. Kudos.
Big Papa came out and chatted for a few minutes about the Wolf Lodge. Pretty personable guy. I always give bonus points to owners who take time to chat it up with their clients.
While "location, location, location" rules real estate and pizza joints, turning left across the "Escape from NY" reinactment on 611 was kind of hairy. Getting tattooed by a Yankees license plate would have ruined my week.
I can't say I'll be back anytime within the next calendar year, but I'll definately keep this place on the mental food map. If only my little wizards could cast spells to help me remember all things as well as I remember my food map!
